We visited ND for the 1st time last year. We were south of Minot and eastward, didn't make it to Medora. We LOVED it. Canola fields were in bloom. We visited lots of Louis and Clark museums. We had such a nice time.
North Dakota was a surprise to us! We loved Medora. We were there in April and we were the only people at the The Red Trail campground! They only took cash or check for the campsite LOL and they hand wrote a receipt for us. I felt like I stepped back in time. It was awesome. We drove the the park right before dusk, again we were the only ones on the road and we saw so much wild life it was amazing. The musical hadn’t started yet so now we have to go back!
Thanks for showing us ND. We would definitely like to go there to see that little show and other things like that I wish you found more stuff like that to show us.
I was born and raised in ND and moved back after over 8yrs away living in CA, TX, IN, NC,GA and WI and I really would not live anywhere else. 780,000 people is enough and you know your neighbors and communities are close knit. There are many things to see in ND not just TRNP and Medora. The International Peace Gardens, the state Capitol in Bismarck as well as the Heritage Center there. Yes there are around 400-500,000 visitors to the TRNP every year and many times it is hard to find tickets to the steak fondue and musical. The 4th of July in Mandan has a huge 4 day celebration along with the oldest running rodeo anywhere. Ft Lincoln in Mandan and then heading east Jamestown and Fargo have several things. The topography changes depending on where in the state you are but there is a lot to see and you can ask anyone you run into here and they will help you and give you any info needed. Largest amateur softball tournament,McQuades, is held in Bismarck/Mandan every year also. About 400 teams from all over the country come here. I have been to Medora many times and there are 3 or 4 rv parks in the area but Dickinson isn't that far for hotels or other rv parks also. I never have understood why people wait til last to come here or never because they do not understand.
Thank you posting all this I was going to say the same things & I will add Lewis & Clark spent more time at Ft Mandan at Washburn than any place else during the Corp of Discovery
Thanks for keeping it real. It’s what we love about your channel. I know everyone has their own experiences so it won’t stop us from paying ND a visit. ❤️
you guys make us laugh!!! I have to say, the editing you did with the live music at your fondue was absolutely fantastic! safe travels, see you next week 😊
Wow love the video and your transparency. The number one thing I love is that you will always be able to share your thoughts and opinions in which the world has lost the courage to share their freedom of opinion. I do love the people in the state of ND (my family) I love that the state has mountains and hills - wayyyy better than western Kansas ;) love ya! You can’t hear the haters over the ocean waves - go there next!
Yes... actually, we probably should have done the North side of the National Park and not be in the tourist spots. The video doesn't show the smoke from the Canada Fires we dealt with nor the couple of really big wind days. So it made our time there challenging.
Keep being honest. You are entitled to your opinion!!! One of the best parts of our country is that there is something for everyone. How boring would it be if we all like the same things.
Born and raised in Fargo ND and now live outside about 13 miles in Minnesota. The wind can be outrageous at times. I can tell you though we have the best summers up here however the winters can be brutal. Our plan someday is to stay on our season camping spot on a lake in MN April thru October and travel south in the winters. Great video!!!
I am from ND and agree with the person from the shop about the people is what makes ND. I do have to say my favorite part of Teddy Roosevelt Park is the North Unit. In my opinion it is better than what you see at the south unit which is by Medora. I do highly recommend going up to the ND/Canada border to do the International Peace Gardens. However, the grasshoppers have been crazy the last few years.
There are several mail services out there that provide options. We happen to just have family that is willing to help us for now and after we opted for most everything to be via email we notice we really don't get much in the way of snail mail anymore -- just government items. But we have several crew members that use mail services and they seem to have no issues.
@@SwitchItUpLife thank you. That helps a lot since my wife and I are considering selling everything and buying a rig and hitting the road. But before we’ll do that we have 2 acres with water and sewer plus possibly power hookup that we are thinking about opening it up for a safe place for travelers like y’all to stop and rest in NC
I keep hearing north dakota isn’t spectacular, yet u showed some pretty views however people keep talking about the desert Arizona, 🤔 lol, guess I’m just gonna have to see for myself come winter…but then that all depends on weather at that time too. 🍻
I worked in Minot North Dakota for a year and a half. We joked that there was more electric poles than trees. The coldest day I worked it was -48F . It is crazy how dusty it gets in the summer. I enjoyed myself even though I was only there for work.
Hey there. The Bakaan formation is in N. Dakota which was one of the most prolific oil and gas formations in the U.S. and may be one of the reasons why Sheila was questioning why so many people come there; they might be coming for work. Safe travels.
We hale from the land north of there known as Canada....North Dakota is south of us just to put it in perspective 😊😊. It's a wild west last frontier feel, but a hikers, bikers paradise....a must see for everyone. The pitch fork steaks would make the trip worth while all by them selves Just sayin😊😊
I am surprised you guys were so negative and didn’t find anything to like about your visit (other than the candy store). Teddy Roosevelt NP is beautiful, with the North Dakota Badlands, wild horses, tons of prairie dogs, and bison. The town is cute enough, and I thought the musical was charming and very patriotic. We loved our time there.
We share what we are thinking at the time. It's ok to share our thoughts. Most of the time we receive comments that people like that we are "real"... it's not that we didn't like Medora but it wasn't our favorite places we have visited. That is all. I (Todd) don't like Chicago but it doesn't mean that others including Sheila disagree. Just one of those videos. As always thanks for supporting.
Bison poop is usually called buffalo chips. There is a place (I forget where) where they hold contests to see who can frizbee a buffalo chip the furthest! The settlers burned them in place of wood for cooking and heat. That's a FUN FACT for you!
Lol... We were dealing with fire from Canada and a bunch of wind while we were there. Medora is a great little town but driving across North Dakota there really isn't too many other things to see. You will need to go and get that stamp... capture your unicorn state.
The scooter she rides way slower and maybe feels a little more secure. I (Todd) will say standing on a scooter feels better because you just step off and can get balance than on a e-bike.
ND was pretty stinking boring for us too when we visited a couple months ago. We went to a rib festival in Fargo and Ruth got to see Diamond Rio perform there (she loved that) but overall it was pretty much a dud and everyone we talked to in the area when asking what we should check out said there was nothing worth seeing... We did stumble across a UFO themed restaurant in Fargo which was the highlight for me. You like what you like. We like the real Todd and Sheila opinions and appreciate that you keep it true for you. Side thought: that red truck @21:21. Drives like me.
There are many options in the USA for different things you like--- some people like beaches, some like mountains, some like hustle and bustle, some prefer absolute silence - what the comments on this video has shown us is if you share your honest opinion on what you prefer somehow you are wrong 🤔🤔🤔 so to be clear I like country music and Todd likes turtle 😁😁
I live by the north unit of the park. The grasshoppers have been horrible the last couple of years. My son and d-i-l and her family ranch so it has not been a fun time for anyone, really. EXCEPT for my 3yo grandaughter who has a bug trap she runs around catching grasshoppers and "releasing" them away from us ;) My dh was in the military for 20years. We ended up in ND because of that and we stayed. I am from CA, originally and I dread going back to visit. I forget how obnoxious people can be, how dirty things are, traffic, congestion, etc, etc. I have been been indoctrinated into the ND cult 😱 I find the funniest thing about North Dakotans the fact that the more you hate on North Dakota, the more they puff up their chests and the bigger the smiles. The north section of the Roosevelt NP was long, but worth it. We saw more horses and bison, along with some very, VERY interesting geographic sites - cannonball structures. The ND badlands are more impressive than South Dakota's, in our opinion. Thanks for covering the beautiful town of Medora. The people are great, aren't they.
Thankfully the US is a huge place. Not everyone likes the same places but can find their own favorites- ND just wasn’t yours. I’ll get my stamp there someday!

The town as whole is cute, but very touristy. @SwitchItUpLife Nope, I don't want you to sugar coat it. However, from what was shown, it seems there was alot left on the table of what you could have said and done. We go the TRNP 3-4 times a year and find it different every time.
@jimandellenmeadows6244 We understand things can be different. While we were there we had fires from Canada didn't go outside a lot because of smoke, a lot of wind and rain. Not making excuses but it does play into an enjoyment level. Also from Medora across North Dakota there really is nothing except Fargo and Jackson. There is a reason it has nobody living up that way. So our experience is just that... our experience. Sometimes you go to a restaurant and the food wasn't for you and didn't like the atmosphere so you don't go back... the people working there are good people.
@SwitchItUpLife I will have to say your wrong. There is a lot to do here. It may not be in your wheelhouse, but those of us "nobody's" that live here do things everyday. North Dakota is great! In the summer. Some of the most beautiful sunsets 🌅
