I also try to take secondary roads and visit small-town America. You are correct about the coldness in the east and coldness in the west. It is the humidity and it will make the cold “bone chilling”. Very first RV road trip was 6 weeks long and my husband and I only used a national geographics road atlas. We had a great time and didn't have reservations anywhere we went. Stopped at BLM land, state parks and national parks. Enjoy the freedom!

I find the ratio of happy accidents to unpleasant surprises is definitely worth the stress when things are uncertain or even just flat out go wrong. But I can see where that would not be true for everyone.

I hear you! When we built this rig we were doing on a budget and staying out of debt. I have to admit - 640w of solar and 300ah of battery is what we've lived on for 6 years! Will be nice to have more eventually but you can make it work! (Starlink makes it a touch more challenging with the constant power draw). -J

@ I’m not sure! The diner came after I moved away as well. Cold bacon on a BLT doesn’t sound good to me. Don’t get me wrong, I will eat cold bacon… I just would be totally surprised to have it cold on my BLT. That is a bummer.
I should be able to get the TPMS to show my truck tires, but even the mechanics had trouble resetting my truck sensors last time I got the tires done so I think my truck OEM sensors are either misplaced or malfunctioning. But it's so awesome to have accurate data from the RV now! -J

They are an Oregon company and are well made with a reputation for toughness. When I was looking for a used one to buy I found relatively few of them. Apparently people don't get rid of them.
That narrow bridge had me cringing for sure!! I was a truck driver for many years before I retired this year, and low bridges were always a nightmare of mine when I had to go to rural deliveries and pick-up. I used Garmin truck GPS, and backed it up with Truckers Path. You guys are doing great! LOL, but geez that water spout... yep, memories of Alaska for sure!
Agreed! I never believed the whole "Dry heat" thing until I spent a couple summers out west and then came back to Florida and about died in 75 degree weather. 😂 -J

A viewer sent them to us (If we are talking about the black ones and not the garbage gray ones / concrete blocks at the beginning 😂 ) and so far I really really like them. They can be a little tricky to back up on as I feel like I have to give it a little more gas than I did the step ups, but so far so good! -J

Seriously, you might want to hook a backup alarm to uour reverse lights. OHSA requires them commercially because once in a while they keep the road kill out from under your tires. Sometimes, especially at Walmarts, I think people really try their best to duck under your wheels.
I love my Road Atlas! I will always use one even with with GPS! 10 years ago, I drove from Arizona to Denver, then headed towards BC Canada to visit family! My cell phone back then wasn't the greatest and for whatever reason, I didn't want to use GPS, because I never really had before! 🤷 I grew up with maps and am pretty good at reading them (for a girl)! 😂😂😂 I am one of those people that likes to see the big picture, when traveling to a destination that I have never been before! Also, a Road Atlas doesn't need a cell signal and will never need charging! 😁😁😁 Basically, it's whatever works for you! Now, I use both! Have fun on this new adventure! And, Trinity looks so cute, in the back, looking out the window! Bork, bork, bork! 🐕

@@grayfam8 I think it was a red trail (all the blazes were color coded) and maybe an old map had it as the purple trail. The crack is an a common issue with this model RV (and some similar models) from the early 2000s. There is a spot where the fiberglass will always crack unless you pull the nose off and weld a new piece of metal in there. We met people in Alaska who had one of the other models (same year) and they confirmed that when they went to fix it the frame wasn't cracked and no welds were broken - it's just a weird point with this rig. Crack has been there for 5 of our 6 years of RV life. -J

Out west cold is different than east cold and pretty sure it's all about the humidity! Go to the beach at night in CA in December and thats cold, humid and breezy but 45 degrees!🥶
@OpenRoading no it's not a lake, it's a pond. But they build them on top of or next to each other. You are in Maryland right? I'll betcha the vegetation was mowed down, will not literally. It's all man-made. They can take the wolves & the moose reintroduced here. Plus a few grizzlies. 🤷♂️

I suppose beavers almost became extinct because of the trappers and the love for Beaver hats in Europe. It definitely will not cause the same damage as Helene, that was unbelievable and to know that people are still living in tents. Special prayers for them. But to damage one lodge can create havoc as a water rolls downhill. Rolling is an understatement.
Hey on that slow water... do you think you. needed to pump it more to build up the pressure which. might have increased the PSI. Just a tip for. next time you come across one like that. It looks like a water pump that needs priming by pumping it up many times.
We have a subscription, we generally have found Walmarts to be easier to get in and out of since we double up on grocery shopping and no need to make a reservation. 🙂 -J
Yes. For this model (and a few like it back in the early 2000s) there is a weak spot but not a break in the weld. It can be fixed but it requires pulling the nose off and adding some extra bracing. Have spoken to a few people that had the models that were on this frame and it was a common issue. One person had it fixed so they told me the procedure they had to go through. But like I had been told, in their case there were no broken welds or cracks in the frame before the fix. -J

A motor carrier road atlas will have all the low bridges, below 13' - 6", on state routes listed. I never go without it when trucking

It annoys some other people out there but to me, I'm only super specific about calling it diesel when I'm allowing someone else to borrow the truck who may need to fill it up. 😂 Otherwise... the terms gas and diesel are used to mean "fuel" for me. -J
