Yes, absolutely, humidity is what makes the same temperature feel colder back east (or even along the west coast) than western states with more arid climates like CO, UT and AZ in the winter! I loved the sequence where you were eating dinner/grilled cheese in PA and Trinity was leaning forward from the back seat like "What ya eatin'...?"
Haha - Trinity wanted the bacon! Pretty much the only "people food" we will sometimes give her a bit of when we are making food is bacon. I feel bad smelling the whole RV up of bacon and not giving her any so I cave. -J

Thanks so much for watching. I'm afraid our rig is getting close to the end of her life with us (We've lived in it full time for 6 years!) She needs so much work beyond what we've ever discussed on the channel (probably will go into it in more detail eventually) but she has treated us so so well! I'm hoping when the time comes we're able to find someone who wants to gut and restore her because I believe the frame is amazing! We'll see. Never know what's around the corner. -J
I used to live in Denver, Colorado and now live in the Pacific Northwest in the suburbs of Portland, Oregon, and I feel like it feels colder here in Oregon than it did in Colorado and I think it’s because of the dewpoint and humidity. The chill goes right to your bones in Oregon more than Colorado. I am so enjoying your videos! I too enjoy your realness.

I find the ratio of happy accidents to unpleasant surprises is definitely worth the stress when things are uncertain or even just flat out go wrong. But I can see where that would not be true for everyone.
Looks like Trinity made an impression on Grandma. So sweet. Consider adding Outdoors RV to your list of RVs to research for your next purchase. They are an Oregon company and are well made with a reputation for toughness. When I was looking for a used one to buy I found relatively few of them. Apparently people don't get rid of them.
I can see us doing fewer interstates in the future... but the not knowing where we're stopping when we start is probably a thing that was only for this video. -J
OMG this episode is gold! love it! I can totally relate to so many aspects to this episode. I too recently bought the same TPMS unit, but with 6 sensors (4 for the rv and a pair for the rear truck tires) haven't installed it yet tho, look forward to hear how you like it.

Yes, the weather has been crazy, and you are totally correct that the wet cold is miserable because of its moisture content, it makes you suffer with a deep chill! Sorry that you drove back down south with little relief but up and down temps are still better than all the snow on roads! These side roads are going to stress me out too! We did it once and all vowed to never do that again because it was soooo sketchy! Loving the views though. Thanks
That narrow bridge had me cringing for sure!! I was a truck driver for many years before I retired this year, and low bridges were always a nightmare of mine when I had to go to rural deliveries and pick-up. I used Garmin truck GPS, and backed it up with Truckers Path. You guys are doing great! LOL, but geez that water spout... yep, memories of Alaska for sure!

@ I’m not sure! The diner came after I moved away as well. Cold bacon on a BLT doesn’t sound good to me. Don’t get me wrong, I will eat cold bacon… I just would be totally surprised to have it cold on my BLT. That is a bummer.
There is definitely a difference between east coast cold and here out west. When I was planning to move out of MN (couldn’t deal with the cold and snow anymore) and my boss wanted me to move to North Carolina. I had felt winter there and said absolutely no. It actually felt worse to me than the dry MN cold. Now I’m in southern NM and winter is a dream. I will take low humidity over high humidity at any temperature.
The low humidity makes such a difference! We wintered in Phoenix a few years back and it got cold at night... but not bone chilling. Somehow 45 degrees can be bone chilling in Florida. 😂 -J

Good job on upgrading to the TST tire monitor. Now, to get a good RV or trucker GPS so that you can put in your dimensions and take some of the worry about low bridges out of the equation. They also have fuel stations listed.
We really have been watching for some time now and always look forward to your adventures. We are getting ready in the Spring to go fulltime, what a big decision, but one I think we wish we would have done a long time ago. You continue to give a great deal of knowledge and always things to add to the list. You are correct about the temperature in the West vs. the East. Absolutely agree with you 110%!! West is "dry cold" vs. East being that "bone chilling, cold, raw, wet cold", (higher humidity) that you simply cannot get warm with! LOL Having lived in both, I totally agree with you on that one! Humidity is annoying because it gets you on both ends of the temperature. 40 and humid? 🥶 75 and humid? 🥵 Meanwhile in the southwest you can easily enjoy the outdoors from 55-90. -J
I love my Road Atlas! I will always use one even with with GPS! 10 years ago, I drove from Arizona to Denver, then headed towards BC Canada to visit family! My cell phone back then wasn't the greatest and for whatever reason, I didn't want to use GPS, because I never really had before! 🤷 I grew up with maps and am pretty good at reading them (for a girl)! 😂😂😂 I am one of those people that likes to see the big picture, when traveling to a destination that I have never been before! Also, a Road Atlas doesn't need a cell signal and will never need charging! 😁😁😁 Basically, it's whatever works for you! Now, I use both! Have fun on this new adventure! And, Trinity looks so cute, in the back, looking out the window! Bork, bork, bork! 🐕

I hear you! When we built this rig we were doing on a budget and staying out of debt. I have to admit - 640w of solar and 300ah of battery is what we've lived on for 6 years! Will be nice to have more eventually but you can make it work! (Starlink makes it a touch more challenging with the constant power draw). -J
Hey Guys, I just watched your Video "RVers worst nightmare" you guys came down through PA on 15 to 11, to 35 went through our Hometown of Freeburg, then continued our 35 into McCallisterville Gassed up at the Sheetz in Mifflintown, ate at the Clubhouse, we're in Texas so it was just nice to watch.
Yall are traveling like we typically travel. We know areas we want to go and figure out how to get there and where to stay on the way. But we have enough solar to boondock so it makes a huge difference. We've been fulltime since 2020 but just got solar in the last year and it's made it way easier. Especially since we figure it out as we go. I know most people have to be pretty planned out but we just go as we go otherworld been maybe a couple of times it became an issue cause of being tired early or deciding to keep driving. Yall go this! We see some really awesome places not following the main roads. You got this!
East coast cold is way colder than southwest. I can go t-shirt sleeves in 50s on a sunny day in southwest, but freeze in 70s in southeast even with sun shining. I gave away my atlas a few weeks ago, so far haven't needed it.
Very first RV road trip was 6 weeks long and my husband and I only used a national geographics road atlas. We had a great time and didn't have reservations anywhere we went. Stopped at BLM land, state parks and national parks. Enjoy the freedom!
I should be able to get the TPMS to show my truck tires, but even the mechanics had trouble resetting my truck sensors last time I got the tires done so I think my truck OEM sensors are either misplaced or malfunctioning. But it's so awesome to have accurate data from the RV now! -J
@@OpenRoading Oooooh, that tight tunnel!!!!!! I grew up with an old 80s custom van (interior blue shag carpeting and all!) pulling a late 70s huge camper (travel trailer) and that would have freaked ME out trying to drive that!!!!!!
December 1980 we left Seattle and set off in our brand new 28' travel trailer. Bunkhouse with the step up in the back that was taller than the air conditioner in front. An atlas and local maps were our guides. We learned a few things on this trip, 1, my wife is not a navigator. 2, my wife cannot not tell me which way to turn to back into a campground site. 3, when you pull into a small town to stop for dinner, if a couple of guys pull out of an alley and say "Come here I want to talk to you" you run the other direction. Some of our other memporable events, my 18 month old son reached up and put his had on the inside lip of the tailgate as I was closing it. Smashed put turned out he was fine. We lost our dog in a campground in Dallas but found her wandering around an hour later. We never figured out who let her out of the trailer. We were following the slightly drunk manager of a campground in South Carolina to our campsite when she drove over a small railroad tie retaining wall. I didn't see it and just followed her and it ripped the rear stabilizers of the trailer. We parked in an out of business Dairy Queen in New Jersey to eat at the McDonald's across the street. When we left I made a wide turn and the rear of the trailer caught the pointed end of the DQ sign and ripped a 6 foot long gash in the side of the trailer. The first time I ever rebuilt a carburetor was in Carlsbad, New Mexico. We made a giant loop around the US. It was a great trip and we have many fond memories as well.
I just love how the list is something that would make most people cry and you followed it up with "It was a great trip and we have many fond memories as well." That's how attitude makes such a difference. I'm sure as each thing happened there were struggles and frustrations, but once you get past them it's easy to see the positive and turn the negative memories into those "Remember when" stories that fill the house with laughter. 🙂 So appreciated you sharing!! -J

Having camped at Williams, AZ in December with 0 temperature and running furnace and electric heater to keep from freezing I think west cold is just as bad as east cold! Our Designers lack a lot in insulation. My current Arctic Fox travel trailer is 4 season and much easier to heat in the cold temps.
Something about the humidity takes it to our bones though! We wintered in Phoenix and the cold just didn’t hit the same a 45 back here 😂😂 but yes - cold is still cold!!🥶
God bless you guys 🙏 I understand taking back roads and seeing America, but when it's that cold out and getting dark early sometimes taking the highway is a good thing. You can always go back to back roads during the daylight hours.
Kalyn was my deer spotter. 😁 We were had seen several deer so we started a camera rolling out the windshield so we could make a segment out of looking for deer.... and we saw none the rest of the trip. 😂 -J

I’ve stayed at Rocky Gap several times, most MD state parks have the gated code entrance. It’s a nice park, best part is how close it is to Cumberland which is a great small town to visit. They have some nice restaurants and a very cool tourist railroad that leaves from a beautiful station downtown.
Cumberland... the super picturesque town that is ruined by an interstate plowing through the center. (I just mean the picturesque part is ruined - not the town itself!) -J

We went under a 13-7 railroad bridge a couple of months ago on a route we’d never take but had two because of all the roads out in TN and NC from Helene. Pucker factor 11 as I listened to hear my ACs ripping off the roof. Luckily, I heard nothing. On all the little country roads, I worry about the power lines we drive under.
Not sure I can take the anxiety!! lol. We take backroads for all the reasons but I MUST HAVE A PLAN of where to sleep! 🤣🤣🤣 I’m pretty impressed with y’all. As usual. We love our TPMS but be wary of 💯 trusting the reading. We found they can vary by ~6% PSI. We’ve learned which one always reads a bit low and which one is high. But they’re close enough we feel MUCH more confident on the road. Another great product placement with solid information. Have a Merry Christmas!!
So far this TPMS has been dead on with what my tire inflator is reading (at least at cold tire pressure). We'll see how it does over time - thanks for the heads up! -J

Well, the West Virginia Hills are not fun in the snow and ice! Just saying that in the winter time I only go down I-77 South because the state maintains that highway the fastest and most in my estimation!
When 50 amp cord is cold, I just put it in the pickup bed so I don't have to coil it. I love my TST system, have used it for 7 years, no issues other than new batteries every year or so.
Love my TST TPMS. Started with the 507 like you got and then upgraded to the newer 770. Works great but the suction windshield mount sucks. When I hit hard bumps it falls off so most of time just rests in corner of dash. One warning, couldn't tell if you have metal valve stems, but I had 2 rubber valve stems fail from the added weight of the TPMS sensors. TST warns you, especially if you get pass through sensors to change to metal stems. Luckily as they started leaking the TPMS alerted me to falling tire pressure and I was able to quickly pull over and change tires before any blowouts. I now have 4 metal stems!
I use one of those magnetic phone mounts that sticks to the dash since the 770 has a magnetic style mount. Keep it on the dash instead of using the suction cup on the windshield. And yes, need the metal valve stems with the pass-through sensors.
It was cool seeing that you went through my town (Cumberland). My dad drove a truck for many years and made regular passes through that underpass. It is very narrow. There is a casino in the resort at Rocky Gap.

when I did over the road trucking, trucker path and copilot was the go to apps. however over time trucker path did so many ads and anoying "features" that drove me away from it. now its just copilot alone.
Seriously, you might want to hook a backup alarm to uour reverse lights. OHSA requires them commercially because once in a while they keep the road kill out from under your tires. Sometimes, especially at Walmarts, I think people really try their best to duck under your wheels.
Stay on state roads and you will be fine, getting onto township roads would be a mistake, even county roads I would look it over on google before going on it at 13'6". Don't let google take you onto gravel roads down south they are not built for an RV. Seems like Trin has a loving Grandma. Merry Christmas you guys.

Yes, the weather has been crazy, and you are totally correct that the wet cold is miserable because of its moisture content, it makes you suffer with a deep chill! Sorry that you drove back down south with little relief but up and down temps are still better than all the snow on roads! These side roads are going to stress me out too! We did it once and all vowed to never do that again because it was soooo sketchy! Loving the views though. Thanks

That narrow bridge had me cringing for sure!! I was a truck driver for many years before I retired this year, and low bridges were always a nightmare of mine when I had to go to rural deliveries and pick-up. I used Garmin truck GPS, and backed it up with Truckers Path. You guys are doing great! LOL, but geez that water spout... yep, memories of Alaska for sure!

@ I’m not sure! The diner came after I moved away as well. Cold bacon on a BLT doesn’t sound good to me. Don’t get me wrong, I will eat cold bacon… I just would be totally surprised to have it cold on my BLT. That is a bummer.
There is definitely a difference between east coast cold and here out west. When I was planning to move out of MN (couldn’t deal with the cold and snow anymore) and my boss wanted me to move to North Carolina. I had felt winter there and said absolutely no. It actually felt worse to me than the dry MN cold. Now I’m in southern NM and winter is a dream. I will take low humidity over high humidity at any temperature.
The low humidity makes such a difference! We wintered in Phoenix a few years back and it got cold at night... but not bone chilling. Somehow 45 degrees can be bone chilling in Florida. 😂 -J

We really have been watching for some time now and always look forward to your adventures. We are getting ready in the Spring to go fulltime, what a big decision, but one I think we wish we would have done a long time ago. You continue to give a great deal of knowledge and always things to add to the list. You are correct about the temperature in the West vs. the East. Absolutely agree with you 110%!! West is "dry cold" vs. East being that "bone chilling, cold, raw, wet cold", (higher humidity) that you simply cannot get warm with! LOL Having lived in both, I totally agree with you on that one! Being on the East coast now, I can never get warm! Enjoy the warm Fla weather! Safe travels!

I love my Road Atlas! I will always use one even with with GPS! 10 years ago, I drove from Arizona to Denver, then headed towards BC Canada to visit family! My cell phone back then wasn't the greatest and for whatever reason, I didn't want to use GPS, because I never really had before! 🤷 I grew up with maps and am pretty good at reading them (for a girl)! 😂😂😂 I am one of those people that likes to see the big picture, when traveling to a destination that I have never been before! Also, a Road Atlas doesn't need a cell signal and will never need charging! 😁😁😁 Basically, it's whatever works for you! Now, I use both!

A motor carrier road atlas will have all the low bridges, below 13' - 6", on state routes listed. I never go without it when trucking

When we built this rig we were doing on a budget and staying out of debt. I have to admit - 640w of solar and 300ah of battery is what we've lived on for 6 years! Will be nice to have more eventually but you can make it work! (Starlink makes it a touch more challenging with the constant power draw). -J

Yall are traveling like we typically travel. We know areas we want to go and figure out how to get there and where to stay on the way. But we have enough solar to boondock so it makes a huge difference. We've been fulltime since 2020 but just got solar in the last year and it's made it way easier. Especially since we figure it out as we go. I know most people have to be pretty planned out but we just go as we go otherworld been maybe a couple of times it became an issue cause of being tired early or deciding to keep driving. Yall go this! We see some really awesome places not following the main roads. You got this!

East coast cold is way colder than southwest. I can go t-shirt sleeves in 50s on a sunny day in southwest, but freeze in 70s in southeast even with sun shining. I gave away my atlas a few weeks ago, so far haven't needed it.

Very first RV road trip was 6 weeks long and my husband and I only used a national geographics road atlas. We had a great time and didn't have reservations anywhere we went. Stopped at BLM land, state parks and national parks. Enjoy the freedom!

I should be able to get the TPMS to show my truck tires, but even the mechanics had trouble resetting my truck sensors last time I got the tires done so I think my truck OEM sensors are either misplaced or malfunctioning. But it's so awesome to have accurate data from the RV now! -J

@@OpenRoading Oooooh, that tight tunnel!!!!!! I grew up with an old 80s custom van (interior blue shag carpeting and all!) pulling a late 70s huge camper (travel trailer) and that would have freaked ME out trying to drive that!!!!!!
December 1980 we left Seattle and set off in our brand new 28' travel trailer. Bunkhouse with the step up in the back that was taller than the air conditioner in front. An atlas and local maps were our guides. We learned a few things on this trip, 1, my wife is not a navigator. 2, my wife cannot not tell me which way to turn to back into a campground site. 3, when you pull into a small town to stop for dinner, if a couple of guys pull out of an alley and say "Come here I want to talk to you" you run the other direction. Some of our other memporable events, my 18 month old son reached up and put his had on the inside lip of the tailgate as I was closing it. Smashed put turned out he was fine. We lost our dog in a campground in Dallas but found her wandering around an hour later. We never figured out who let her out of the trailer. We were following the slightly drunk manager of a campground in South Carolina to our campsite when she drove over a small railroad tie retaining wall. I didn't see it and just followed her and it ripped the rear stabilizers of the trailer. We parked in an out of business Dairy Queen in New Jersey to eat at the McDonald's across the street. When we left I made a wide turn and the rear of the trailer caught the pointed end of the DQ sign and ripped a 6 foot long gash in the side of the trailer. The first time I ever rebuilt a carburetor was in Carlsbad, New Mexico. We made a giant loop around the US. It was a great trip and we have many fond memories as well.
I just love how the list is something that would make most people cry and you followed it up with "It was a great trip and we have many fond memories as well."
That's how attitude makes such a difference. I'm sure as each thing happened there were struggles and frustrations, but once you get past them it's easy to see the positive and turn the negative memories into those "Remember when" stories that fill the house with laughter. 🙂

Having camped at Williams, AZ in December with 0 temperature and running furnace and electric heater to keep from freezing I think west cold is just as bad as east cold! Our Designers lack a lot in insulation. My current Arctic Fox travel trailer is 4 season and much easier to heat in the cold temps.
Something about the humidity takes it to our bones though! We wintered in Phoenix and the cold just didn’t hit the same a 45 back here 😂😂 but yes - cold is still cold!!🥶

Kalyn was my deer spotter. 😁 We were had seen several deer so we started a camera rolling out the windshield so we could make a segment out of looking for deer.... and we saw none the rest of the trip. 😂 -J

I’ve stayed at Rocky Gap several times, most MD state parks have the gated code entrance. It’s a nice park, best part is how close it is to Cumberland which is a great small town to visit. They have some nice restaurants and a very cool tourist railroad that leaves from a beautiful station downtown.
Cumberland... the super picturesque town that is ruined by an interstate plowing through the center. (I just mean the picturesque part is ruined - not the town itself!) -J

We went under a 13-7 railroad bridge a couple of months ago on a route we’d never take but had two because of all the roads out in TN and NC from Helene. Pucker factor 11 as I listened to hear my ACs ripping off the roof. Luckily, I heard nothing. On all the little country roads, I worry about the power lines we drive under.
Ooooo! Yeah, also had a couple power lines recently that I thought for sure I was going to take out. 😂 Just wait for the zap. ⚡️ -J

We love our TPMS but be wary of 💯 trusting the reading. We found they can vary by ~6% PSI. We’ve learned which one always reads a bit low and which one is high. But they’re close enough we feel MUCH more confident on the road. Another great product placement with solid information. Have a Merry Christmas!!
So far this TPMS has been dead on with what my tire inflator is reading (at least at cold tire pressure). We'll see how it does over time - thanks for the heads up! -J

Route 11 is beautiful It's known as the Lee highway in Virginia. If you're worried about low bridges then you should just stick with the highway.
But then we don’t experience the fun of the worry! 😂 -J
Well, the West Virginia Hills are not fun in the snow and ice! Just saying that in the winter time I only go down I-77 South because the state maintains that highway the fastest and most in my estimation!
Yeah, we delayed our trip through WV because of a snowstorm! Ended up being a smart move. -J
When 50 amp cord is cold, I just put it in the pickup bed so I don't have to coil it. I love my TST system, have used it for 7 years, no issues other than new batteries every year or so.
Love my TST TPMS. Started with the 507 like you got and then upgraded to the newer 770. Works great but the suction windshield mount sucks. When I hit hard bumps it falls off so most of time just rests in corner of dash. One warning, couldn't tell if you have metal valve stems, but I had 2 rubber valve stems fail from the added weight of the TPMS sensors. TST warns you, especially if you get pass through sensors to change to metal stems. Luckily as they started leaking the TPMS alerted me to falling tire pressure and I was able to quickly pull over and change tires before any blowouts. I now have 4 metal stems!
Yep!! I saw that. Our stems have sleeves but I’m swapping them all out! - J
I use one of those magnetic phone mounts that sticks to the dash since the 770 has a magnetic style mount. Keep it on the dash instead of using the suction cup on the windshield. And yes, need the metal valve stems with the pass-through sensors.
It was cool seeing that you went through my town (Cumberland). My dad drove a truck for many years and made regular passes through that underpass. It is very narrow. There is a casino in the resort at Rocky Gap.

when I did over the road trucking, trucker path and copilot was the go to apps. however over time trucker path did so many ads and anoying "features" that drove me away from it. now its just copilot alone.

Seriously, you might want to hook a backup alarm to uour reverse lights. OHSA requires them commercially because once in a while they keep the road kill out from under your tires.
Sometimes, especially at Walmarts, I think people really try their best to duck under your wheels.
