So true. Bought a Mercedes CLK cabrio recently and I always look back. I also find myself looking out the window at it standing there and saying, still looks good. A car you enjoy makes life better.
I have owned some 356’s and currently own a 73 Porsche 911. This man gets it. He understands the feeling and I respect his philosophy. You buy a other sports cars to impress others. You buy a Porsche to drive and impress yourself.
You know why so many sports cars are wrecked today? Because they are more powerful, and thus more difficult and dangerous to handle, than for example the Porsche 356, and they are bought by ignorant rich pricks who think they have the competence race them. It's so sad to see! :/
Petter Forsberg With the amount of drivers aids and improved chassis design included in a modern vehicle I don't find extra power to be a valid excuse to crash a sports car.
+doodskie999 I am sure allot of people crashed the old ones, the ones that survived were probably owned by sensible drivers, old cars are defiantly more dangerous to drive, especially RR ones.
One of the greatest Car Stories ever told! This is not just any car - but a real part of his family. If the car 'got sick' he cared! It wasn't just the early Porsches that made their owners feel this way, but also the millions of early VW Beetles and also the Kombis and Campervans. Life with these earlier VW's and Porsches was extremely 'special' to their owners, and is now almost a time gone by.... There will not be many (if any) true 'classics' of the modern cars produced from the same Historic VW Stable. Thanks go to Petrolicious for producing one of the best vids on YT. Greetings from Australia.
I've experienced all those feelings of wanting to make up excuses to do more driving or go more places - and I did. I owned it while living in NYC and PHILA. I drove it as my main car - in sub zero degrees and summer - it always started and was a joy. Driving this car....it hits it stride at about 60 mph and then it takes off. As a designer I agree, with you, I loved looking at it at every angle. People in NYC thanked me for driving it, because most people with "classic cars" don't drive them except in perfect weather conditions. I could go on in my agreement. Thank you for posting this. I'm no longer driving anything as interesting...but have lived because I did.
Man, that is the true, unadulterated definition of love. My dad had a 1964(I think) blue Porche C. I know exactly what he means when he says he always looks back at it after he parks. I do that with my Harley and Miata.
Change the oil and keep it serviced and a Porsche will go the mile! I drove my 1969 911S Targa for 36 years and 310,000 miles, mostly with a grin on my face!
I was six years old when I saw a Porsche 911 in a bad 1980 German movie and I've had a crush. I've busted my ass and waited three decades until I've owned one. Swear God I've had numerous nightmares with me not being able to fit inside (I'm 192 cm in height) and when (finally!) I've opened the door to my 911/993 I was sweating like a pig at the slaughterhouse. Got inside and a choir of angels suddenly sang to me like it was Resurrection time. People often asked me why is my 911 my daily car? My answer is always the same: 4 seats? Great fuel consumption? Then it must be a bloody family car, right? My kids don't fit in anymore in my back seats? Fuck them! Squeeze in or hit the road with the mayor's car.
Love the shot with his racing gloves in the passenger seat, a true auto enthusiast inspiring a new generation, makes me wanna run my car for a million!
That's what makes Petrolicious special for me. It doesn't view the cars it features as loose, single objects, no matter how rare or interesting or alluring, but it views them with the added human context.

You made my day. Great video , great story, really warmed my soul, and heart, what beats Porsche since 30+ years.
this is the awesome thing about cars. There is so much soul and passion. Most people see a car as a form of transport but it is really more. What an awesome car!
"Coz I come in sometimes and I pull it into the garage, kinda upset that Im home already! I'd like to keep on driving. I make up errands...like I did that today, I had errands, and I thought of three different things I had to go do today so I could continue driving." Sounds just like me. What an awesome video. Just great
Don't listen to guys like this...keep telling and sharing with us the stories YOU want to tell...you do it better than anybody else on the "tube"...You truly are...PETROLICIOUS.
This is such a great story. When I'm older I want one car (hopefully a 993 turbo) that I can drive and marvel at whenever I want, something that I need and want to take care of, and something that will never not satisfy. Unfortunately, I'm broke and drive a Subaru Forester.
I am 1.20 min into this video. This is the best video, on the best channel on youtube. Like im not an emotional guy by any stretch, but some of these videos and you see that other love their car as much as you love yours, well thats a special thing.
Honestly I follow a lot of car channels on UA-cam and on TV, you guys are my honestly my favorite thing to watch. More so than Top Gear of Motortrend hope you guys never stop!
This video made me tear up. Very few people can understand the relationship between a person and their car. It's a time machine, a best friend, a life lesson, and a guardian all in one transportation package
Absolutely lovely car and all my respect to the owner... or should I say driver? I think he may have caught the cars identity more than any other 356 driver around today. Wish him all the best for the next thousands of miles and years to drive!
What an awesome story and a very awesome car. How cool is that? To be able to keep it up and running and in that kind of shape....for 50 years, no less. Complete awesomeness!
This is a beautiful video and an inspiration for all of us with a special car in our lives. I don't know if I'll make it to a million miles with my Boxster S, but I have every confidence the car will get there.
ive had my 99 altima since I was 16, im 25 now and its has not one dent, and still has a shiny coat. I was young and dumb with it and has survuved every aspect of my shenanigans. Its a 'shitbox' by any standard but its my shitbox and i love her. It got me back and forth to every bad job ive had. shes getting me back and forth to school now and is my ticket to having my own life for myself. My grandma gave it to me before she died, it means alot, ive put 100k on it.
actually with a this many miles, maintained this way, the miles actually increase the value. its such a rare thing, a car like this, 356 guys all over the world adore this thing. They would pay big money for it.
I love this guy, he understands cars, they are meant to be driven. Anyone who buys a rare classic car and mothballs it up as an investment truly devalues and demoralizes the car. If I had a rare 250 GTO Ferrari I would slam more miles on that thing than all other GTOs have combined. It's not an investment its a heritage.
+ricardo ls my grandpa had a 300sl and a 190sl. He drove all over the USA in the 1960s in it and he pulled his sail boat with the 190 :D . He did not really like the 300sl so he got a bmw. The last car he had before he died was a e36 with a stright 4. He was talked out of an M3!
Awesome video. I was heartbroken when I heard on Jalopnik that it was stolen and so relieved that he got it back. Absolutely perfect feature for Petrolicious, keep up the great work!

I think cars capable of 100k miles or more in this day and age is a distant memory. I saw 2 new cars on fire on Friday. What does that tell you? It's hardly arson... just cheap crap. I had a '98 peugeot 406 coupe 2.0 that had reached 298,000 miles when I sold it. Previous owner had taken it to Scotland every other weekend for almost a decade. Engine and drive was faultless. Well run in through the entire range. I made the mistake of getting rid of it when I came into money beginning of last year. I brought the 2001 model of the same car. Wow, I thought I was crazy along with many of my friends and family, when I have thrown birthday party from my 1967 Volkswagen Beetle when she turned 50 years old lol. I like this this man and his Blue.
It's not as bad there as it used to be, but then his car did get stolen once already. Too crowded during the day to do any enjoyable driving there. Love cruising the VT bridge and Pedro and PV at night. Congratulations on retaining the car, by the way. Such a beauty.
If you treat a Porsche like he did, this car becomes your brother. Always by your side with no complains and no questions ---- still there sharing lots of fun with you. That's why I treat my 911 like this. Maintain it, keep an eye on it, especially look back when you park it and...... DRIVE IT !
1:19 reminds me of the place a scene in The Usual Suspects was shot. Anyone know if I'm right? Beatiful video, besides. I've grown fond of this channel very quickly.
mopsnuf I know this comment is 4 years old, but I was surprised no one commented. This was shot in San Pedro, California. Lived there for years, enjoyed driving around these docks checking out the ships. Most of this was filmed at Port of Los Angeles, some shot at Korean Friendship Bell (the location at 1:19), over the Vincent Thomas Bridge, and along the ocean cliffs by Milke Flores Park at the Point Fermin lighthouse. Lots of movies like “Gone in 60 Seconds” (Nicolas Cage version) were filmed at these docks.
320.000 miles per engine rebuild, that's what we call quality.
I once met a guy whose Porsche 928's engine stopped at over 400,000 miles. It was his track car.
Jesus, that's incredible (other account).
try toyota
I’ve covered 467.000 km in my 944. Never rebuild the motor. But I’ll need a new clutch soon
@@SimonatMac That's amazing. My plan is to one day have a 944 as a track car.
"A thing of beauty is a joy forever!" - Motor Trend 1959 on the Porsche 356. I still remember.
Am I the only one to tear up a little while watching this? So classic, so beautiful. A 356 is perfection.
If you don't look back after parking your car, you know you bought the wrong car.
Agreed!!!..
Holly shit you are right!!!! ;Mine is a VW Baja BUG!!! and i do it while laughing every day!!
YES YES YES!
So true. Bought a Mercedes CLK cabrio recently and I always look back. I also find myself looking out the window at it standing there and saying, still looks good. A car you enjoy makes life better.
Cars made back then had something that many modern cars will NEVER have. It is called Soul.
I have owned some 356’s and currently own a 73 Porsche 911. This man gets it. He understands the feeling and I respect his philosophy. You buy a other sports cars to impress others. You buy a Porsche to drive and impress yourself.
Neil: Exactly my thoughts..... thanks !
I don't believe in true love, but I think I just witnessed it.
What a wonderful story and fantastic 356! I applaud Guy for driving it and not keeping it a trailer queen. Here's to a million more!🍻
Its a shame how people today crash their cars without it having reach 20k miles and this guy manages a million miles and has not crashed it.
Derptrollz You wont say that after driving a Porsche Carrera GT. It's just you, a steering wheel, and the grim reaper.
+doodskie999 I am sure allot of people crashed the old ones, the ones that survived were probably owned by sensible drivers, old cars are defiantly more dangerous to drive, especially RR ones.
+The AE86 of Mt. Akina you might drive with 'the grim reaper' if you drive like a jackass. aka ryan dunn.

this is my favorite video on youtube. i always come back to this.
Porsche should appreciate him

I wish Porsche still made these. Exactly these, no modifications.
+John Smith I want a 1987 BMW 325is remanufacture.
+John Smith I want one. I want a 356 so bad. I doubt many my age would say the same though.. (1993-born)
+HazewinDog Mate I'm born in 2000 and I want to have one :D
Bennet We That's great! My brother was born in 2000 and he doesn't understand how people can like anything that's older than him.
HazewinDog I really don't like most of the moderncar designs. mostvof them are not smooth.
How could someone dislike this video?
D. Richards they bought the wrong car...
I know. I’m reading comments just to find out why someone would dislike it???? I have my grandfathers 912 and have a blast in it.
A true treasure, thank you for sharing. You’re a blessed man. Enjoy the next million miles in good health.
this is an amazing channel, im glad i found it
Just heartwarming! All the best on your Porsche's 50th Birthday! 😊
This makes me emotional....thank you. No other automaker has such an emotional tie or makes such amazing cars as Porsche!
this is the awesome thing about cars. There is so much soul and passion. Most people see a car as a form of transport but it is really more. What an awesome car!
This is the nicest car channel on youtube, without doubts.
This is the best UA-cam channel for anyone who truly loves cars. This was probably my favorite yet. Good work.

Tyler Hartman haha I also drive a Subaru forester and want a porsche 356... I also owned a VW beetle... both flat fours - so close! ;)
a timeless classic that you would never fall out of love with

Great video and keep up with more love stories like this on YT.
I love the emotion of this video it hits really close to home and I like how much this man love his car and how well he takes care if it. Great video
Wow. Just seen this 8 year old video now. Hope they are both still going strong. Must be at least 1.1m now. Well done sir!
Fantastic film and story. One of, if not the, best channels on UA-cam
Glad to see someone with such a great old collectible that actually drives the thing.
What a lovely story. And the car is stunning.

Such an amazingly beautiful car, so simple, so curvy, makes you smile by just glancing at it...
I just cried a little. Such a beautiful story.
Why does high miles equal lower value? The way I look at it, it would be a testament of how well the car runs if it has been driven many miles.
Because after that many miles I doubt it'll last any longer.
This is a beautiful video and an inspiration for all of us with a special car in our lives. I don't know if I'll make it to a million miles with my Boxster S, but I have every confidence the car will get there.
My favourite model Porsche. Lovely car. Delightful film.
This guy takes pride of ownership to a whole new level
Fantastic, presentation, car, and owner. Love it
Making up errands. Thank you for this video; brought a smile to my face.
That's why this car is GIN Favorite! 😄

That's so awesome. I don't know if I ever could be faithful enough to drive one car that long.
I love this guy, he understands cars, they are meant to be driven. Anyone who buys a rare classic car and mothballs it up as an investment truly devalues and demoralizes the car. And once again a wonderfull video by Petroliciuous.
Just keep doing it this way guys, I´m pretty sure everybody here just love it.
easily the best car videos on youtube
It's so great to see such an enthusiastic owner, and such a wonderful car, together for the long haul--being driven, as intended! Terrific am
Beautiful car and beautiful story.
Petrolicious videos make my day every time. Excellent job on the blog too!
2 300SLs?? I wish I had ONE
+ricardo ls my grandpa had a 300sl and a 190sl. He drove all over the USA in the 1960s in it and he pulled his sail boat with the 190 :D . He did not really like the 300sl so he got a bmw. The last car he had before he died was a e36 with a stright 4. He was talked out of an M3!
ricardo ls RICH IN 1968!
Awesome video. I was heartbroken when I heard on Jalopnik that it was stolen and so relieved that he got it back. Absolutely perfect feature for Petrolicious, keep up the great work!
Awesome story. Seriously Petrolocious, your videos make me appreciate my car *that* much more. So many awesome stories here. Keep up the great work.
Petrolucious does it again. Loved the story
It's a beautiful car. Heart-warming story. Great episode.
Iconic car. Stunning mileage for a private car. This is a car from the times where cars where built to last as long as possible.

most underrated youtube channel ever!
Testament to the build quality of the car and the meticulous attention that service intervals on time do ownership looking after but mostly the enjoyment of the car on the owner ☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️ from northern Ireland priceless
Not bad! only 3 complete rebuilds on essentially a bug motor for over 900,000 miles? Amazing. I think I found a new channel to follow.
Hmm I hate to ask this but how many corvettes from this time period have covered this kind of mileage? or come close?
it's good to know people who see their car the same way i see mine... finding excuses to drive it, always looking back at it when i walk away, and i'll probably never get rid of it
What kind of car do you have?
A 1990 civic shuttle lol, i know it's got nothing on a porsche. But that's what makes it special to me because it offers all i need
is it your first car?
PetroliciousCo and DRIVE network. All I need from youtube! Love this vid!
love it! im working on a 64 c coupe at this time. any advise? whats that? dont sell it?
I think cars capable of 100k miles or more in this day and age is a distant memory. I saw 2 new cars on fire on Friday. What does that tell you? It's hardly arson... just cheap crap.
I had a '98 peugeot 406 coupe 2.0 that had reached 298,000 miles when I sold it. Previous owner had taken it to Scotland every other weekend for almost a decade. Engine and drive was faultless. Well run in through the entire range. I made the mistake of getting rid of it when I came into money beginning of last year.
I brought the 2001 model of the same car. New engine design, new electrics... within a month electrical issues destroyed the engine.
New cars are shit.
Stick to the pre 2000 and clean them up. They'll do you proud.
Thats why my buddies 71 Mach 1 is constantly needing fixing and my 2008 GT hasn't had one problem in the 16k i put on it in the last 10 months? Don't get me wrong I love classics but not all new cars catch on fire..
Scott Dann Nah, high mileage cars are not dead. My Dad's '13 Suburban is almost near 200,000 miles.
Yeah well I've contradicted myself further as I've just ordered a new merc on finance haha
Scott Dann My 84' 633CSi has nearly half a million miles , original drive train ! Was a Highway commuter used by a businessman.
'13 suburban 200,000 no issues.
Amazing car!!.... Which camra you use'd to film this video?
A year model car needs 50 years to become a classic, a classic car is immortal!
love this video. i know that feeling. dont want to go home because the journey is too short.
Wow, I thought I was crazy along with many of my friends and family, when I have thrown birthday party from my 1967 Volkswagen Beetle when she turned 50 years old lol. I like this this man and his Blue.
True, it has improved, I'm glad for that. As for PV, I make my way up there at least once a month at night. Such a dream to drive there.
This just makes me smile.
LOVE the story. Hope to put even a quarter of those miles on my classic before it gets passed onto the next generation.
so cool, what a lovely story lol. I’m in love with these old design cars
It's not as bad there as it used to be, but then his car did get stolen once already. Too crowded during the day to do any enjoyable driving there. Love cruising the VT bridge and Pedro and PV at night.
Congratulations on retaining the car, by the way. Such a beauty.

wonderful story, thanks for sharing.
At least I'm not the only one to think up errands that necessitate driving my car.
I love Porsches, thank you for this beautiful video
Wow my top fave video from you guys !!! this one has so much emotion and class to it. it feels like it's me driving the car when you watch this
If you treat a Porsche like he did, this car becomes your brother.
We need car's like this on the road again. Great car GREAT driver!!! love the passion.
(wish to know the piano background song
If you choose correctly when you're young, you can enjoy those choices your entire life. Guy Newmark just gave us one example with his 356.
What a car. . . Nothing quite like German engineering. The flat four has so much history it's remarkable.
Great story!! Who is his mechanic??
Nice Beetle.
And I mean that in the best way possible, I love vintage Porsches!
pure passion here. i can feel it vibrate out of the screen of my laptop..
this car is amazing... very beatyfull...
esse carro é demais... muito lindo...
