Stumbled across this video (and thus your channel) by looking up mangroves growing in reef tank setups... let me just say, this tank is INSPIRING and so insane. After watching this I checked out your channel, and I'm wondering what happened to the tank? Why did you break it down??? This tank is one of the best overall setups I've seen on YT recently for sure. The natural white lighting, the amount of corals growing together, the way the fish interact with the tank, the mangroves! What happened to it ?
It out grew the system. I gave away the coral and fish. And I have since set up a sunlit reef tank. Right now it’s cycling. It was about 6 years old at that point. And so much of the sand was covered, which is not a good think. Everywhere was a dead spot, the corals were healthy and before it would crash I decided to do something new. I had been watching its Orp your about two years and it was getting lower and lower. And no matter what I did. It was not rising which is a sign of impending crash. Old tank syndrome maybe- or just no way for great water movement. It was a testament to what could be. In the future will set up a tank like this again. I say go as big as you can if you are chasing this tank. Because you will be even more successful Than me if you do. The most important thing is get that detritus out of the tank and have a robust, sand team, snails, star fish, that sand need to be really full of life. If I had done that. I believe my tank would still be going. Even with the dead spots
Yeah he is a weird fellow. Just chills on whatever is close to him. But will take off of anyone comes close to the tank. But than is suddenly brave when you stick your hand in the tank and attacks you with a ferocity of a lion on gazelle.
Just watched your video bro and I loved it.. see Im one of em who exited the hobby after 2 years I had a SPS dominated system and was very successful with it but saying all that to say this I've just started to grow out some mangroves and I feel like that may get me back into the hobby.. i have you to thank for that man which BTW your tank with the plants look amazing ...

I tried this and my mangrove turned kind of rubbery and died. I will try again!
I have noticed that mines actually looks healthier. But there maybe a correlation when a mangrove is already in a compromised stateS
