25:00 I translated what Melisandre said.
*_"We ask the Lord to shine his light, and lead a soul out of darkness."_*
*_"We beg the Lord to share his fire, and light a candle that has gone out."_*
*_"From darkness, light. From ashes, fire. From death, life."_* repeating a couple of times.

Remember, the Red Priest explained to the Red Woman that he had lost his faith and just said the words because his friend was dead. He had no idea he could do it and felt no power, but it restored his faith. Perhaps the Red Woman had to lose her faith to acquire this power. Just trying to explain it all to myself.

The Red Woman is so-called because she's tall (in the books at least), she has red hair, she dresses predominantly in red robes, and wears a red ruby necklace which pulses at certain moments, as if to emphasise her power. And, Stannis and Selyse aside, most around her fear her.

That Cersei Tommen scene felt unusually heartfelt. It felt like a turning point in their relationship. One would rightly think that Tommen will now let himself be guided by Cersei, who in turn is guided only by the pursuit of revenge. But what if it was a turning point, in a parting of the ways kinda sense? The the forehead kiss and the tear felt awfully like Cersei resigning to the fact that Tommen might be beyond salvation. It might be a crossing the rubicorn moment for the King and the Queen Mother.

21:28 theres a lot of stuff different in the show than in the books but the worst change was Euron Greyjoy. In the books he's this mad outcast who's become a pirate. He's sailed everywhere, he's obsessed with magic he's been to Ashai(the place Melisandre learned magic), he's been to the ruins of Valyria. The stuff he's learned from these places we can only imagine until the next book comes out but he has several things that he got from these places that are unique. First is his Valyerian Steel armor. The second is a dragon horn which supposedly can dominate the mind of any dragon that hears it, but the person who blows the horn will die.
He's captain of a crazy ship, the silence. All the crew have had their tongues ripped out. He's such an awesome character in the books, he's crazy and super dangerous. I can't help but think that he's going to be a very important character in the final two books but in the show he's none of those things. He's just another ironborn raider.

    • @CraigKostelecky
      @CraigKostelecky 2 роки тому +1

Yeah, combining Euron and Victarion Greyjoy into one character... with whatever twist that D&D decided upon, was not a good decision.
There are *so* many diversions after the first three books that things just snowballed out of control and the book and show have become almost two different stories completely.
I'm a book lover who still appreciates some of the changes that D&D made. Not all of it was bad. Without them, we wouldn't have had Arya in Harrenhall with Tywin, Littlefinger/Varys, Robert/Cersei, and some other cool events that haven't been seen on this channel yet.

    • @jackthehat1093

Euron is cringey in the show. The show runners promised us he'd be the worst villain yet. Worse than Joffrey, worse than Tywin, worse than Ramsay. But what does he actually do except talk about sex? He's a perfect representation of the last 3 seasons. Lazy and uninspired.

One thing this episode (kind of) alludes to is the idea that Jon's spirit is residing in Ghost, his direwolf. All Starks have some kind of warging ability, although Brans is the most developed. The books talk about the "second life" a warger can potentially have if they warg into their beast at the time of their death.
Maybe that's just the book, and I'm not even sure- we've been waiting 12 years to find out whether Jon is actually dead 😭

I always thought that Melisandre simply misinterpreted her vision with Stanis. She originally told Stanis that she saw in the flame the Bolton banners being lowered to the ground. She took this as the Bolton’s being defeated as Stanis would take Winterfell and then pull the Bolton’s banners down. If you remember Stanis got surprised by the Bolton forces. Stanis thought the Bolton’s would hold up in Winterfell and the battle would be a long siege of the Winterfell Castle. The Bolton’s surprised Stanis by attacking on the ground. I often wondered if that was the vision Melisandre should have seen that Stanis would be surprised attacked by the Bolton’s on the ground. Thus, the symbolism of the Bolton banners on the ground.

It's less that Melissandra's magic isn't working, and more that she simply didn't wait long enough to see the results of her work. As for her visions, those can be quite tricky... A lot of the visions she described were not definitively tied to a specific person or time.... She saw a great battle in the snow, but (pretty sure) she never said who was fighting the battle. She also said that she saw Bolton banners burning, but never said who lit the fires. Also worth noting, very few events are set in stone... Most visions of the future are based on the things that are currently happening, and any changes can quickly cause the path to change....

Some people also think that jon 'warged' into Ghost like bran does with summer. So technically it was a resurrection, but it was actually more like she put his soul back into his body. Then again grrm will probably never finish so we may never know lol.

People always start predicting Frey and Bolton's deaths from the very next episode after the Red Wedding. Well now finally Roose is dead and it doesn't even make you feel any type of way except disgust for Ramsay. This is what GoT always does, they mindfuck you so much that when the thing people wanted for a long time actually happens, it's so subversive that it completely takes the joy out of it. The one thing makes me curious: How they changed their collars when they got bigger? Can you imagine? Dragon is not a dog, you can't just approach a dragon with intention to replace one metal collar with a bigger one, they hate being captive. And if they did manage to replace their collars many times (because obviously collars have to be tight, so that they couldn't help each other to remove it with teeth), why dragons even let Tirion to approach?

I remember when I found you watching Lucifer, that was DC universe, same as sandman. Fun casting fact, they didn't bring back Tom Ellis, Brienne is now playing the role of Lucifer. Just figured you might like to know.

Jon is killed in the last book and 11 years later we're still waiting for Winds, so no one really knows for sure if Jon will be revived in the books. But there are good reasons to believe that whether by Mellisandre or White Walkers, he will be back in some form in the book too. Most of the fandom seem to think he will be back. Only death can relieve you of the Night's Watch vows. I'm not the biggest fan of season cliffhanger "fake" deaths, but I can more than overlook this one due to how ruthless the series has been in killing off characters up until Jon, but mainly because of something that is a spoiler, so 🤐

Episode 2 opens with Jon sitting at the High Table with a tankard of ale. "Yes," he says to Edd, "so the witch bought me back. What's new with you?"

Melisandre had been faking about hearing the words of the Lord of Light. She had mystical tricks she could perform. Some of the other tricks came from powders and potions.
She needed to humble her ego and herself with her God.
The red priest with the Brotherhood may have been a drunk, but he was humble and understood that his power was a gift, and not a boast.
When Melisandre put her hands on Jon and begged "please" to work through her and bring him back, she was truly being humble to help someone else in honesty.
Also, she does see visions, but she misinterpreted them. So, she'd give Stannis the wrong messages sometimes.
As for Jon at the end of the scene, I really wish they would have fade to black when they pulled the close up on him. But then, flash right back on his face as his eyes pop open and takes his death breath.
Now that would have been more epic. The way they shot it pretty much gave it away before he opened his eyes. But still, it was a joyous moment.

The faith militant plot is the best thing about season 5/6 for me. You can see how the high sparrows ideology would terrify the nobles. Kill him and another nameless peasant takes his place. How do you defeat them now that they're so powerful they can abduct the queen and queen mother without consequence?

Calypso, you are SO HILARIOUS. You theorize some the most intricate plots in the GOT universe. Yet George RR Martin continually shocks and confounds you with his writing. You are on e of the smartest reactors out the yet you won't let your mind go to certain dark places. Places that would let you see when two men are talking on a rain-soaked bridge, that one of them is about to die. Ramsey could kill his father once he found out Rouse Bolton was having a boy child. And for the entire episode 1 you kept asking, "Why don't they burn Jon's body. Come on Calypso the Red woman is here for a reason and she has a part to play in the fight to come. The fight against the darkness.
