Ned and Robert's death was foreshadowed in the first 20 minutes, or so, of the 1st episode. Remember when they find the dead stag (Baratheon), and the dead wolf (Stark). They had caused each other's death.😊

This literally set the tone for the entire series. We learned that nobody is safe. It is one of the things that made it the greatest series ever on tv.

This moment was so pivotal because there wasn't any shows killing off main characters like this. I was so upset when I saw this that I stopped watching it for over a year. Thanks for this.
Why do some of you insist on spoiling things? Not just events that happen but even the introduction of characters. That's not fun.

You're angry, you're hurt, you don't understand....it wasn't supposed to happen. And yet, through it all, you're still very much a sweet summer child. Keep going and you won't need anyone to tell you when that is no longer the case.
When I read this in the first book I literally threw the book across the bedroom against the wall and cussed my brains out. I refused to read on into the saga for months from the trauma of losing Lord Eddard Stark. As others have said.. this sets the tone for this authors vision. No one is safe... There is not line.. and that is part of what makes the journey so epic.
I was sitting in school. It was such a surreal feeling because my soul had just been crushed and everyone around me was just... having a normal day.
"Y'all have to give me a minute!" Amber, we were feeling it for an entire week, until the next episode came out. Take your minute. We'll wait.

This scene continues to get me ... from the 1st time I saw it several years ago .. til this very moment. The writing, cast choice, and acting was Exceptional !!
What makes GOT so special is because no one is immune from tragedy, death, or revenge.
People will be saying, "That's not how it's supposed to go." until the end of the series. That's what makes it so good---you never know what's coming.
Did you get what Varys was saying? He didn't want Stark to give up, surrender. He wanted to keep him alive to serve the realm, do everything he can do dampen Joffrey and his mother's effects on the people. To keep an honorable man alive. Don't confuse Jaime with Tywin. Jaime wanted to help his shy brother have a woman. It's his father that did the rest when he found out. And that battle is why Robb let the scout go, to give them the real number, so then he could move them somewhere else
I love getting home from picking up my kiddos and finding an Amber Reacts video just waiting for me to click on. While they do homework, I watch this. It's a great Mommy break!
Aemon of the Night's Watch is a Targaryen. Daenarys' great uncle. He was sent to the Citadel (which is the school where all the Maesters are trained, the guys in gray robes of which Pycelle is one). He chose the Night's Watch so not to be used as a pawn by his brother, who then became king and was the grandfather to Daenarys and her brother. You could say, he's the last of the honest Targaryen's not bent on ruling.
Grand Maester Pycelle - you can't recognize the actor due to age and the beard and makeup, but Julian Glover is the actor playing him whom you and Jay have seen in Empire Strikes Back as General Veers (led the ground assault on Hoth) and as Walter Donovan in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (the Nazi who drank from the wrong grail).
Cersei summed up this series best - When you play the game of thrones, you win, or you die.
You are more than welcome to leave long after thoughts. The fun part is listening to first time watchers frustrations, predictions, happiness or sadness.

This is by far, my fave reaction to Neds death. This show will break you're heart into little pieces and also make u a psychopath screaming at the tv for someone to please kill -blank-. The best part in my opinion, though, is the fact that u can despise a character in season 1 only for them to become one of you're fave characters later on. Can't wait to see more!

I remember the comments when you posted the first episode: you will feel every emotion with this show, and you will feel them intensely. This show WILL break your heart... several times. But you'll also fall in love with several characters. Great reaction, can't wait for the rest. Also, keep tissues handy at all times.
It was Jaime who wanted Tyrion to have a woman, but it was not Jaime who traumatised him by making him watch - that was their father Tywin.
Jaime is actually the only one who was kind to Tyrion while they were growing up. :)

The North: House Stark
The Vale: House Arryn
The Riverlands: House Tully(Catelyn's family)
The Westernlands: House Lannister
The Reach: House Tyrell(Knight of the Flowers and his sister)
The Stormlands: House Baretheon
Dorne: House Martell
However, there was a carved out "eighth province, the Crownlands, for the Targaryens, but now it belongs to(careful wording) whoever has the crown. But within each kingdom, each of these houses have minor houses or "Bannerman" that serve under them, like:
House Stark: Houses Bolton, Karstark
House Arryn: House Royce
House Tully: Houses Frey, Greyjoy
House Lannister: House Clegane(Mountain and the Hound)
House Tyrell: House Tarley(Sam's family)
House Baretheon: Houses Tarth(Brianne, season 2), Dondarrion
House Martell: House Dayne
I'll repeat this for memory.
Amber, did you catch that Jeor Mormont (the top guy at The Wall) is Jora Mormont's dad? Jora is the guy who hangs out with (and saved) Daenerys. Also, did you recognize Walder Frey as Filch from Harry Potter, and also the wilder lady Osha as Tonks from Harry Potter? One last comment ... there are no rules with Game of Thrones. Throw out all your expectations and just enjoy the ups and downs.

You’re supposed to be caretaking my kingdom! You didn’t keep playing the honorable fool did you?!?”

One of the unique things about this series, no character is safe. The sword they used to behead Ned was his family sword. The one he used on the Nights Watch deserter in episode 1.
Eddard entered the show beheading the deserter and explained to his little son Bran why he had to do it. Now it was time for his beheading and Joffrey explained why he had to do it. Welcome to the world of GOT.

Varys is a very complex character. He's fully steeped in the Game of Thrones, but his only loyalty is to the realm and its people. You will love him and hate him in equal measure
I’ve been both excited for and dreading this reaction because I know it’s gonna break Amber’s heart like it did so many of ours! This story is a roller coaster of emotions but that’s what makes it so compelling.
And Lord Varys is confusing but he stated his interests plainly in the last episode and in this one when he was talking to Ned. People’s motives and priorities are important to consider in this story. I think it’s been well-established in this first season that Petyr Baelish’s (Littlefinger) priority is himself, Cersei’s priority is her family (mainly Jamie and and her children), Ned’s was honor and doing the right thing, and Varys’ priority is the good of the realm. Even if he could change things, he may not choose to do so if he thinks doing so would harm the peace in the realm.
Edit: Amber, I believe there are family trees you can look up for each season which will help keeping characters sorted and without spoiling future seasons.
Do not look up family trees, there are major spoilers there. Take it from someone who made that mistake!
Amber, Jon Snow's sword is often considered either a bastard sword or a hand and a half sword, depending on who you ask. Those types of swords usually ranged from 2 to 4 lbs. Most swords throughout history ranged between 1.5 to 7 lbs depending on size, type, and use.
Fun fact: Jack Gleason who played Geoffrey, decided to leave acting because of all the negative attention he got for his portrayal of the boy king

It's sad that he was such a great and skilled actor that you could hate a character so much, but that some people pinned the actor as the character and drive a great actor out.
That was part of it but he said in an interview that he’d been acting since he was very young and besides the negativity he just didn’t have a passion for it anymore. It’s too bad that he got such negativity for playing Joffrey when in reality he seems like a very sweet, kind individual. In the few interviews I’ve seen of him he’s like the antithesis of the character of Joffrey

Having handled a few of the swords and props from the show when it was filmed here i can tell you first hand the craftsmanship i second to none.

They should check out his movie called Black Death, it's not on your list, but he has a very good role. Hate to say this, but the fantasy series I wrote / still writing, my mentor character was based on Sean Bean. So well, I guess I spoiled my mentor character's fate.
You’ll never be the same after this. This was the episode that turned the whole series (and actually, tv in general) on its head. I don’t think a series had ever before killed off such a popular character with such reckless abandon so early in the game. It changed everything. We never felt quite safe again after this.
Oh, the agony and the ecstasy that is the Game of Thrones! At least you got thru that scene without tears; I was still crying half way thru the next episode...

Varis has a point to Ned Stark. When he says he's doing it for the realm, he means the common people. Ned has his honour in mind, but that's a standpoint from 'a high horse'. The way of the noble rulers and the wars of the houses only leads to suffering for the common people.
All the houses are blinded by their struggle for power for themselves and hide it under the veil of 'honour'.
Amber you were warned early with a line from the show about how you are not ready for this show with "Oh my sweet summer child"
Now it is time for another warning with another line from the show, "If you think this is going to end well you have not been paying attention"
This is an amazing show & I am so glad to be here watching with you to see you fall in love with some characters & be willing to break your screen in anger at other characters.
