At this price point are the resin printers becoming the new generation of ink jet printers? In other words, you buy one. You use it till something breaks, then you buy a new one because parts are almost as expensive as a new printer, and by the time stuff breaks a better version is available. Just a thought :)
Not quite . . . the individual parts of most 3D printers are pretty affordable. This $200 machine is pretty rare for that cost, but it only seems to have one moving part, maybe 2. So maintenance should be pretty easy and parts easily acquired.
been thinking of buying a 3d printer. had myself decided on elgoo mars as my first printer but now i need to see the comparison on these two. cant wait to see your review on this head to head with the mars model to see which is a better starter model.
Well the price point is a good question, looking at the BOM cost means they are making so little profit it is not sustainable ... what does that mean for the future? Are they going to just go bust, or bump the price up to where it should be, the real question is will your printer be supported in 6 or 12 months time?
totally new to 3d printing. i've been interested in creating blanks though to use in molds for keychains. do you think this machine would be able to do it? it would be totally flat blanks, for things like shakers. great video!
From what i read most printers use regular color screens like monitors, tablets, phones and monochromatic screen can only display a single color, probably white and lasts longer and prints faster.
I'm actually looking through a couple of videos to see if something is wrong with my Sonic Mini that just arrived. Sadly it appers to be normal and i can confirm: It's extremely loud and the frequency melts your brain. I'm actually surprised that this wasn't pointed out in any review.
you could extend the z axis lead screw and put the printer in a dark room so you don't need the cover for the printer. this would allow for even taller prints. How ever i don't know if there are any caps on the software used but this would be a cool upgrade if it works.
The very small build volume is a bit restrictive, but if you only plan to make some jewellery or miniatures with it, this could be the Ender 3 of resin printers! Now let's just hope that Corona Quarantine doesn't impact chinese manufacturing too much, or these won't be available for quite some time.
I just saw this video for the first time. I wasn't aware of Phrozen 3D Printers, but at this typing - The link you provided does not have the Phrozen Mini available from Amazon. The Phrozen website has the mini available at $239.52 (before tax and shipping costs) and is coming from China. The print volume on the Phrozen Mini is 4.7 x 2.6 x 5.2 inches. Adversely, the Elegoo Mars IS available from Amazon, and is 2K Resolution and a print volume of 4.72 x 2.68 x 6.1 inches - and is sold for $229 for Prime (free shipping) - FYI

I heard the original phrozen build platform will work with this machine which has the angled aspect. $70 dollars though so now we are at $270. Then others may want the metal vat which is also $70. So now we are at $340. I still bought one though and plan to upgrade.
Sorry for dumb question, but am I correct in assuming that the sheet of paper used in the leveling was simply to protect the screen from the print bed? Or is there another purpose? Thx.
So you covered why it's unequal to the others in a variety of ways, but it's advantage was that it's 20-30% faster? Isn't that just tuning? Is it using different technology that makes it faster? It doesn't seem like a compelling case for saving $50.
Super impressed with the quality for the price, but as these machines get cheaper and into more hands, people should be aware of the potential hazards of resin printers if safety isn't considered. Please check the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) sheets of all the resins, vent out the fumes during printing, do NOT pour uncured resin down the drain (even the wash), and please wear more than gloves for protective gear. This stuff is pretty nasty for you and there isn't enough data on the long term effects.
Hi Def Dad they’re just a tiny bit worse, the resins can absorb into your skin and then start crystallizing inside your fingers in sunlight. That then leads to an autoimmune condition that will make your body freak out from the slightest fumes not allowing you to ever work with it again.
@@hidefdad6318 Drain cleaner is usually open for what, 30 seconds? You open the bottle, use some, and close it right away. Resin sits in a vat with a rather large surface for many hours at a time. Love the review and the channel, but I have to take issue with the "$200" printer thing as nobody is getting these to their door for $200.. it's $250 from Amazon or $200 plus freight (around $50..) direct from the manufacturer. Anycubic and Elegoo are rolling the $40-50 freight cost into what their entry level printers cost direct or from Amazon, so this is really on par price-wise with the Elegoo Mars and Anycubic Photon if you include the cost of shipping included in their prices. The Sonic Mini really acquits itself well when compared to these both even at the same price, so why muddy the water by sensationalizing a lower "price" when these 3 printers really cost the same to obtain?
Hey Jessee, can you do a video about using liquid resin to smooth FDM prints. Apllying a light layer of resin on a 3rd print then putting it in the sun to cure to smooth out the print.
Note on ur leveling, use a full sheet to cover the entire base. Exactly on the side the ring didnt print as u uaed torn paper not fully covering the base so was not level.

I'm looking at ways to make items that are usefully not sure for the looks which i like as well but with the current virus issues im wonder if it possible to use a 3d printer to create something that can be of use
Great review as always! This does look like an interesting machine. For me the build size is more than enough for most of my resin projects. Do you have any information about the resolution on the screen? I was not able to find anything on their website
Are there any function that will indicate the total number of hours being used by the machine software? At least it will better prepare the user to purchase a new screen before the old ones dies.
but how would you compare this resin printer compared to the conventional anycubic photon? i own neither, but if it's just a question of print speed, i would prefer spending that extra $ for a higher resolution projector and larger print volume...
Not sure about the toxicity for airborne matter, for touch, yes. Always wear nitrile gloves. As for the smell, it depends on the resin but what most do, myself included, is run a vent system out a window.
You only need a well ventilated room because of the resin fumes. There are low odor resins now which smell considerably less, if that is a priority. But the postprocessing includes washin the parts in IPA, which also is rather smelly. So just have a warm room (resin needs room temperature to work optimally) with a window where nobody lives or sleeps.
Hey man, I've been watching a few of your videos lately just out of curiosity to see what 3d printing is all about. Honestly, I got interested in experimenting with that technology and see what goodies I can create. However, I am not sure what budget/beginning friendly printer should I get. I like this one as well as the monoprice mp mini sla and the anycubic photon (mostly because Pete the wargamer uses it). Which one would you recommend to someone like me who wants to try this out but at the same time save money while doing it? Thank you mate!
Got mine yesterday but I’m scared to use it after hearing everything about the plastic vat. I’ve run test runs though to make sure everything works and it’s super fast! Great quality!
Would you advise this product over the recent mp mini resin printer for a user new to resin printing? They're equally priced, but you seemed more excited about this one.
With the reviews that you have done on the sla resin printers. Which do you think is best that is under 3 to 400 dollars? Just wondering cause I want to purchase one that isn't complicated and has high quality.
So this uses a lcd screen not a laser or dlp to cure the resin? What about the resin tray? I hear trays cloud after usage and shorten it's life. How long does a tray last?
Hello, thank you for the great review. I can't make up my mind between the Creality LD-002R(around $240) and the Phrozen Sonic Mini which is more expensive (at least when delivering to Portugal it now runs around $300). What would make you chose between one or the other? I need it to print dental models and surgical guides. Thank you in advance
Hi, may I ask? I want to buy my first 3D printer, but I will go with FDM printer. I was considering Resin printer but I've got a question. How much does screen replacement costs on such a machine? I mean Mars has got 500-1k hours, will it die for example after 50-100 prints of that Death note figurine?
Would love to see a comparison of printed models from the full hd monochrome screen of the Phrozen Sonic Mini against the 2k screen of a printer like the Creality ld002\ Mars\ Photon etc and hear your thoughts on how they stack up to each other, Im really trying to decide between the two (the Phrozen and the Creality or the Mars Pro if they get restocked anytime soon haha) and want to know if the gap in screen resolution has any perceivable difference in the printed models
I am trying to understand the appeal of resin printers as a hobby printer, apart from the print quality, especially in miniatures, can print several small models simultaneously. Rinsing the prints, curing the prints, seems to need more supports than a well calibrated FDM printer, support removal is not as clean which means more post processing. Extremely expensive if want capability of bigger prints e.g Ender 3 and up. The extra precautions due to health risk, the replacement of screens every 500 hours or 2000 in this case, 2000 hours printing not really that long. Not bashing resin printers, but not sure if I am ready to get one even though tempted.
Depends what you print. The models have a lot more detail and are smooth enough to use without sanding. If you print large parts without many details, then FDM is the way to go.
UNCLE JESSY HELP @!@!@!@!@!@!@!@ i just got a sonic mini ,did test print ,did just like your 2 rings not 3, i got a messy resin vat , looks like frosted glass on the bottom whats the best way to get that sluggy mess off? thanks for any help
It seemed like it could print some nice models, even with the lower resolution. Jessy: I for one would like a video where you print the same, extremely detailed figure on both this printer and one with better resolution. Then let us know if you can spot any difference, for I doubt we could tell =] Please?
Looks pretty good! How can it print faster? I thought the time depends on the resin curing time, which as a noob, I understand is 3-5 seconds per layer. Thinner layers? Monochromatic screen longer lasting is great.
I would think that curing time is proportional to the amount of UV it's exposed to. The premise being that a monochromatic screen allows a greater amount of UV light through so cures faster I'm assuming.

but how would you compare this resin printer compared to the conventional anycubic photon? i own neither, but if it's just a question of print speed, i would prefer spending that extra $ for a higher resolution projector and larger print volume...
Is the Resin really smelly and toxic? I was thinking of getting one. But I'm worried about the smell and or toxicness of the liquid.
Not sure about the toxicity for airborne matter, for touch, yes. Always wear nitrile gloves. As for the smell, it depends on the resin but what most do, myself included, is run a vent system out a window.
Highly recommend this printer highly
Here's hoping that I can get it in Austria in about 4 months. Right now it's not on the German Amazon and other sites in Europe go for like 400 bucks
Gravity Falls and Death Note figures in one video? 11/10
So you don't want one of these in your house, right? Do you rent some industrial factory space as a print space?
Did you ever get a chance to test out the Siraya Tech Fast...what was the settings you ended up with?
wait! 1920x1080 and not 2k like elegoo??
IKR?!
Any thoughts on this machine two years later?
Got mine yesterday but I’m scared to use it after hearing everything about the plastic vat. I’ve run test runs though to make sure everything works and it’s super fast! Great quality!
Can you get replacement lights for it when this one goes out? It looks great!
Is this printer your main 3D printer that you been using for your channel? thanks
Is the death note model only available by becoming a patreon?
Doesnt it say 2000?
@@thebeybladearmory This one is 2000, but Mars states 500-1000.
Hi, can you use any kind of sla resin with this printer?
Yes, as long as it's 405nm.
If I bought, few days later, any technical or software problem then how can i solve it.?
Do I need a special Resin for the fast print or just change the settings in Chitubox?
hello jessy, whats the best safe resin to use that you have used? think about about to go from tevo tornado to resin ? thanks man
Does this deal with the fumes any better than the photon or mars? I know the mars pro had some sort of carbon filter to help with the fumes.
You gotta love the mask that doesn't protect you against solvents it's a dust mask...lol
It'll protect against particles, though
AFIK the masks included with these machines are not to protect you, but to protect the machine from you. Any moisture would not be good.
Nice this is going to be my first Resin printer!
Cyberwolf74 it’s an awesome machine to start with that’s for sure!
@@UncleJessy Would you recommend spending more on it than the Mars for a first timer?
same! this look perfect for me, i know i don't need a giant resin printer so this seems ideal.
Can it do different colours? Also change colours half way through printing?
So I have a question is the elegoo mars 2 not 2pro new cause i haven’t seen many videos about it
I just got mine, is there no fan in it? I didn't here on kick on.
Hello there, is this printer suitable for printing model rings for casting in silver?
If I live in an apartment, would you think it’s safe to run that resin printer in my front room over night?? 👀
It seemed like it could print some nice models, even with the lower resolution.
Jessy: I for one would like a video where you print the same, extremely detailed figure on both this printer and one with better resolution.
Then let us know if you can spot any difference, for I doubt we could tell =]
Please?
What resin can you use with this printer? Is there a particular brand that you have to use or can you use any
i heard monoprice are redoing the mini SLA, you willing to check it out again for the same $200?
Is this a good printer for D&D miniatures?
I would’ve liked to see the back of the model figurines too but great review. Love it!
Just happened upon your channel, excellent info and informative...subscribed!
Glad to hear you found it and thanks for subbing!
How much is the resin? And how much resin is usually used per each mini?
I get the Siraya Tech Fast for about $20 a bottle (2 bottles for $40) Cording to ChiTuBox a mini costs like 30-50 cents.
its 100$ now dope
Can I print 5 to 6 inch figures on this is there a way to print em in pieces and put em together
Just did an unboxing of this beast too! Love it!
So crazy, only for (almost) 200 dollars!
Could be possible to make suggestion ranking in few price zone? 200/500/1000/1500 and more ?
better than photon or mars?
Sonic Mini vs Elegoo Mars video?
finally, i dont have to spend a fortune on Warhammer 40k
You're what's wrong with the hobby... can't afford the licensed products? Don't play the game simple
@@insomniacbritgaming1632 what a snobby comment. Money should have nothing to do with playing the game. The more people that have access to playing the game the better. Warhammer shouldn't just be for people with enough disposable income.
@@brewzerfpv1210 Not really... printing GW miniatures is IP theft!! If you can't afford a Hugo Boss suit you don't buy a copy and claim it to be original....
Tiny Table Wargames You’re what’s wrong with the hobby
@@insomniacbritgaming1632 no one is claiming it to be original. It's a proxy. If two kids want to play the game but cannot afford legit pieces then let them be. Most people that decide to print miniatures have likely been in the hobby and spent there fair share on legit pieces before. Games workshop prices is the real crime here. Its not like people will take 3d miniatures into a games shop. The tech is only gonna get better so GW had better innovate if they want to stay ahead
Is the rapid cure time due to the resin or the display?
The display instead of color like all other entry level 3d printers this one is monochrome
@@alexanderwillis9473 thx
I'd rather have a bigger build plate than height as most of what I print in resin is small miniatures and small parts to fix things. Everything else I use filiment.
Wish you could of explained what the big deal is about the mono screens.
I am in the market for my first 3d printer and im really torn on a cheap resin printer for the speed or the Prusa mini for the size. What would you suggest?
I think that would depend on what you want to print. SLA is finer detailed but smaller. Resin is also more fragile usually.
Do you have a link to the Bill Cipher file?
I can’t find it.
