    In my opinion, Pablo is THE master cellist of this generation--in addition to having a tremendously warm personality. It is truly an extraordinary experience to having him share his techniques and his life with us!

      Everything you have done reinforces my opinion of your musicianship and performance as I commented on 9 years ago to your UA-cam Dvorak movement 3....except now we have the extraordinary privilege you have given us with your teaching videos and the videos of your travels and family life....THANK YOU SO MUCH !!

      @@deltasquared7777 Totally agree! I think Pablo is the most satisfying cellist to come around in a very long time. I also thought there was something unique in his playing 9 or so years ago when I first saw that Dvorak video. Recently, I had the good fortune of hearing him play a recital, and I think I have probably never heard a more moving recital by any musician, let alone any cellist.

    Genial. " ¿ Podrías hacer un video sobre el análisis que se hace debe hacer sobre una obra para lograr interpretarlo lo mejor posible y lograr trasmitirlo al publico ? Y explicar como identificar y transmitir las emociones(alegria, amor, enojo, miedo,tristeza) que propone el compositor en la obra." Gracias.

    Thank you so much Pablo! Helps a lot! One other thing I would've liked demonstrated is Vibrato techniques on the upper registers of the cello. I always find my vibrato to be uncontrolled and tight sounding, especially with the first finger.
    With that aside tho, the video was very helpful! It's rare for a World Class player to share their genius with the rest of us!!
    You're the best, Pablo!

    Pablo, thanks for sharing, its very inspirational. I have just had the best 2 days as a 'cellist' going from screeching , tortured cats and excorcised entities to actually making music and I'm trying techniques I didnt even know anything about 2 days ago. Bowing bowing bowing. Bless you. Every video is a pleasure and a rapid education....later, much later.......... "and did you know my first teacher was Pablo Ferrandez?"..."I did wonder".

    Pablo thank you for an excellent Masterclass on Vibrato. I love this type of learning via video. I would encourage cellists to also use video to "see" and "hear" themselves and their vibrato. Sometimes we think we are doing an excellent vibrato but seeing on video that our hand is barely moving and the sound of the vibrato doesn't translate! Again THANK YOU! How about an up close vlog on your cellos? Would the agreements you are under allow for up close video of every part of your beautiful instruments?

    • @pabloferrandez
      @pabloferrandez  5 років тому +4

      Para conseguir un vibrato libre lo ideal es quitar los demás dedos! Hay excepciones cuando los puedes dejar si es ese el color que buscas, pero como “norma” general mejor cada dedo solo :)

    Another excellent video, really helping me get back into playing! Do you have any comments on the vibration rate in the context of the tempo of a piece and the harmonic context of a note? For instance, on notes with harmonic tension doing vibrato against the grain of the tempo in pentuplets might add tension. I feel like you do this intuitively but wondering if you've thought more formally about it. Thanks for the great videos!

    Hi Pablo, and thank you for your wonderful inspiring videos and musicality. I have a specific question on vibrato that only partly is responded in this one , and on which I was told differents / contradictory answers : are we supposed to vibrate in position or is it possible to shift the thumb position to ease and free the vibrato ( you dont talk about it but at the begining of the video I can see your thumb shifting when you skip to the next finger). I'm talking of course in situation that requires no shift normally. Hope I was clear ! thanks again !

    Vibrato for me depends on the composition, or musical character that I playing...on vibrato isn't like a on/off switch.... I don't intentionally vibrate on every note nor do I do it equally.

  • @whyeven919
    @whyeven919 4 роки тому +1

    I see that you often lift your thumb when vibrating in thumb position. My teachers always taught me that the thumb is most important for vibrato on very high tones. One should „vibrate“ it as well so that the vibrato in the other fingers is better. My vibrato is often tense in thumb position. Is lifting the thumb better for wider vibrato?

    • @777KingAce
      @777KingAce 4 роки тому

      Lifting the thumb would be the right idea, but it’s more the concept of a “free” thumb that would create a wider vibrato in higher positions. Lifting it implies tension, but yes, the effect of floating and relaxing the thumb helps put weight into the active finger. Hope this helps!

    4:45 my teacher has always told me to never collapse my fingers because it makes everything go flat. I'm currently working on Brahms in E Minor. Should I ask him about using the 'meatier' vibrato? This is the first time I've heard of using it purposefully and not just me accidentally collapsing my fingers.
