Yes, we sneak outside food into the theater. It is a tradition he taught me when I was 10, and in my thirties, I have no intention of ending this tradition during my lifetime.
Well done Andy; you created a few more special moments for your dad and a valuable last memory for yourself. Given the difficult hand you were dealt, it doesn't get any better than that. Rest in Peace.

I live in a one theater town with one screen. They brought it back for a second round which has never happened before here. My friends and I are headed there tonight. This is a big screen movie.
I think this one of those blockbuster movies that deserves to win best picture. Watching it on IMAX is one of the best cinematic experiences i have experienced in a long time.
The pompous folk at the academy seem to award movies nobody will ever see. Remember when The Artist won best picture for the sake of using the gimmick of a silent movie in black and white?
Top Gun: Maverick is my favorite movie so far this year. I wasn't a big fan of the original, but I've seen it a few times. This movie blew every other movie this year out of the water. It deserves all the praise it's getting. I can't wait to buy the physical copy.
I'm still flabbergasted at how much I love this film. Seen it four times so far & catch it again if any theaters give it another premium screen. This breakdown of it's heist movie elements & contrast to other legacy sequels is brilliantly insightful as always man.
The finale is one of the best and tense because they set up the characters, story, and stakes so well and the filmmaking is some of the best in cinema history. One of the best movies in years and hope Hollywood makes more movies like it.
It’s an unbelievable movie. I watched it opening night with my teen kids and they were as blown away as I was. I think this proves that it’s not just the nostalgia factor boosting the movie. It was probably the best theater experience of my life.
Arrived home from the cinema yesterday, after seeing Top Gun: Maverick for the third time to see you'd posted this. You're good, Paul. You're very good....
A rare sequel as good as the original. Loved it!!!! I'm not a Tom fan but did appreciate his "Thank you" video before the movie. It was heartfelt & showed how much love was in this project for him.
Great review. I agree 100%. This is the first movie I've watched in a theatre since the start of the pandemic. Tom Cruise was right to have it delayed. It needs to be watched on a big screen, with big sound to be truly appreciated. The flight scenes are absolutely mind-blowing. And, I agree that the whole movie harkens back to the great films of years past. It is a classic summer blockbuster.
Maverick also showed that just because a tool is old it’s not obsolete if used properly. So many lessons in this movie you could make a whole college course on film direction on this movie alone
GREAT analysis of the modern franchise revamp. They never needed to show weaknesses to make new characters look great. Everyone can grow and have appeal.
I loved this movie and agree with you on the why. I even got chills just watching the ending on here.. especially when Rooster double taps his dad and Maverick's pic on the board. Glad Penny Benjamin mentioned in the first was here too. I loved watching the first one with my brother. I wish he'd have waited one more week before passing so we could share this too.
This movie is beyond my expectation, beautifully crafted, and well-packed immersive action scene, many callbacks from previous movie - best sequel ever. This movie must be watch on biggest screen you can find, it's worth every penny. Glad that Joseph Kosinski deliver this movie so perfectly, Tron and Oblivion also great.
I also loved how in the theaters Tom Cruise starts the movie thanking people for coming to see the film, it felt so personal and like a gift. Saw it several times in theaters and it deserves every award possible! The scenery is beautiful, comedic timing, one liners, impactful moments were all perfect!
The practical effects of this movie and cinematography are absolutely stunning. It's still the best movie I've seen this year. When people talk about the superhero fatigue, I think that comes from the cgi that surrounds it. You know those characters are on green screens and sets. There's so much authenticity from every character and action, while MCU is now stuck on trying catchphrases or extending IP.
A fantastic film! Had all the reservations you mentioned at the start, but so so glad i made it to the theater to catch it in the big screen. 12/10 film
Well presented…. It’s movie of the year for me… first time I watched a movie 3 times in the cinema. And rushing back to see the old one after that.. Watching it with 4D experience makes the cockpit scene much better
Brilliant movie. Triggered some PTSD in me a few times but still worthy of watching. Boyfriend kept me grounded during some of the scenes; I'd gladly watch this again.
Superb video! Entirely agree, Maverick was a PERFECT 80's movie, in 2022 quality...Effects, stunts, acting, and actual use of flying this time, set the film above even the original movie as something I genuinely ENJOYED watching...I kept waiting for Maverick to be killed off, since this IS Hollywood recently, but it never came...And the film soars because of that message of hope...It's a perfect movie, and a far better sequel....
I personally thought this film in general was kinda perfect. There's so passion behind it that was noticeable to me. The earliest I've been to a video of yours & it's a great video again!
It is a great movie. The most amazing thing about it is that you could watch it without having watched the first one. My wife and I watched the original (not for the first time) before going to the theater to watch it. Then after the new one, we watched the original with our daughter.
I haven't enjoyed a cinema experience like this for as long as I can remember, probably since Gladiator (2000). It's renewed my faith that Hollywood can still make an action movie, sequel or not. How refreshing to see a film that isn't a comic book Mary-Sue-superhero green-screen CGI-shit-fest! It really shows on screen that it was made by a passionate film-maker, rather than some studio accountant working to a corporate algorithm with no respect for the source material, vomiting out a cynical low effort cash-grab, banking on the nostalgia of a long established fan base.
Watched it on IMAX opening day.. the scene where everyone is yelling out missiles being fired from the SAM turrets and zooms out to all the explosions and flares... beautiful 👌👌👌 ❤️ saw 4 times in theaters and even saw it twice in Screen-X
Yesssss… Go Navy!!! Beat Army!!! (Lol it’s a football thing) So proud for everyone that worked on this movie. So much nostalgia since I worked on F/A-18C in the Navy and our squadron was part of TOP GUN in Fallon Nevada ever other year. Former Navy Plane Captain IT2(AW/SW)
Top Gun Maverick is an example of if you make a good movie, people will come to see it, some will see it over and over again. Tom Cruise was thought to be dead outside the Mission Impossible franchise, and the acting talent he displayed in TGM, especially that scene with Val Kilmer shows the rumors of his decline were greatly exaggerated.

Great video! Perfect way to explain why this movie is so special. Watched it in IMAX, Screen X, and will probably watch it in the theater one more time before its run ends.
I still subscribe to the theory Maverick died during the hypersonic test flight and the rest of the movie his soul was trapped in a Purgatory where he revisits everything from his past, Top Gun, Iceman, his old flame Penny, and resolves his guilt over Gooses death by patching things up with a purgatory version of Rooster.
There’s a million opinions on Tom Cruise but most of his movies always hit. The guy had me tearing up really believing that Maverick and Rooster were both dying😭
