The were several (3rd party?) adapters made while the game gear was in production, and even the krikzz everdrive plays sms roms. The biggest problem with all those options is that the sms games are slightly cropped, because of the resolution doesn't scale well, which is annoying, not to mention the text which is unreadable. My interest was if these problems were fixed by retrosix, otherwise I don't see the point of it.
@@JuicyJakeRepairs The good news is that I know I can still buy a modern equivalent thanks to your video. I still actually used the thing occasionally too. I last recall using it to play Master System Double Dragon while waiting at a gas station in 2019. :)
I bought a “Beeshu Master Gear Converter” back in the 90’s. This is a very close replica. The OG GameGear screen was difficult to see so having your GG modded with a new McWill or equivalent screen makes all the GG & MS games like a completely new experience
About the analogue pocket: it turns out it's not as cracked up to be. There was this craze at first bc of the advertisement and paid reviews, but it's defo lacking on several levels
All you gotta do is hack a 3ds, then you have a multi-system on-the-go. The only limit is the biggest that you can get that works is 128gb micro sd card for the 3ds which is plenty of space if you neatly sort out all of the rom packs & iso's etc...
That may be true but it ignores the tangible history The nostalgia and the respect to form that you see on the screen right now. Being able to play an actual cartridge can play into it being a piece of some people's childhood. Especially if they kept their own growing up.
@@jamespaxton6395 I agree, though taking this out in public on a frequent basis might break it in some way from wear & tear or dropping it on hard common surfaces such as wood, tile or concrete. If I were this person I would keep it at home most of the time & just use a commercially available portable system that is hacked such as a psp & to a degree a 3ds when I go out. It is much more space saving, easier, & cheaper(games are getting up in price. Even a decent sd card cart to play roms for only 1 system is expensive)to replace a hacked psp or hacked 3ds if something happens rather than replace a one of a kind product or the games like pictured in the video.
I definitely need 1 of these for master system players its so much easier and my megadrive is basically permanently connected to my CRT..... edit after watching your video the quality of this product is a bit worrying
I can't hear any game sound in this video because of the overdubbed music, but the Game Gear and (standard) Master System actually both generate sound with the Texas Instruments SN76496 Programmable Sound Generator; the only difference is in the Game Gear it's modified for stereo. However, about 50 Master System games do optionally support the Yamaha YM2413 FM synthesizer which is in the Japanese Mark III FM Sound Unit and Master System MK-2000 console (and as a mod for Western Master Systems - Tim Worthington's SMSFM), and the analogue audio input pins of the Game Gear's cartridge connector (normally used for the Game Gear TV Tuner's sound) *can* actually carry the FM sound if it's provided (see the video called " sms fm on gg " ), but to my knowledge there has not yet been a Master System converter (or Everdrive model) commercially released for the Game Gear that does so.
You don’t need that screw it’s obsolete,BTW i hate that fucking screw but overtimes i will forget to to unlock to unlock my master convertor before pulling it off the games, causing the spring inside make the screw loose,so i don’t bother with that screw, also i filed away those sharp edges from my master convertor from all corners as it could easily scratch the gamegear((STUPID SEGA) This convertor seems to be no exception either andhe shouldn’t kept that screw at all, that would,ve save them some penny’s Also i don’t see why they made new sms convertors am mean it’s not that those master convertors are rare or something like that so i why? Also why could they made a card gamegear adaptor instead sothat you could play sega card games( and maybe also SG1090 card games) on the go,that would be ideal, but sadly this new product is in my oppinion just obsolete bullshit👎

@@djfernando16 i had troubles finding 3rd party adapters at reasonable prices
I had a boxed Master Gear Converter from the ‘90s until I got wrecked by a tornado last year. :(

@@emmettturner9452 nice! well, now instead of playing Sonic 2 for the Game Gear i can play Sonic 2 for the Master System 😂
It's great to see the gaming community continuing to show love to the consoles and games I grew up with 😁
it is indeed!

Neat. Surprised Sega didn't try to make something like this for the Nomad
"this thing is very old"
Me being born in 1987...... I'm not that old.....
🤣
I was literally only thinking of how cool this item was from my childhood today at work as I was having an nostalgic flashback!
When will sega release a handheld that has all the master system games preloaded or just a master system mini?...

Looks cool, hopefully I can get one myself. And without all the small cosmetic issues you had. Nice vid Jake.
hopefully! and thanks
What's with the game audio? 🤔 GameGear have far more limited audio capabilities than the Master System, if I know right.

Of course, there is a much easier way of doing this! And the rubber gloves are very off putting!
I did not know the genesis/mega drive was back compat. Learn something new everyday, thank you. You earned a sub..
