I find it funny that day people look at night owls as lazy just because we do not get up in the early am. I get just as much work done in my awake time as other people, it's just that I don't start until noon.
I want to force myself awake in the morning but it's so hard to get up. I often hit the snooze button without being consciously aware of doing it. My unconscious brain clearly hates myself and wishes to ruin my day by wasting a large portion of it asleep.
I tell you what, I was in Nepal in the mountains in October. I am normally a complete night owl back at home. But there, in bed at 9, up at 6 - feeling awesome and packed with energy. Was pretty crazy. So I can vouch a lot for the computers and phone screens keeping you up late. Also, I used to suffer with insomnia, and a friend of mine told me to go camping for a week to reset my body clock. It worked wonders!! :D
I live in Norway, so letting the amount of light determine when i fall asleep isn't really an option at winter. It doesn't become bright before 12:00 some days, and gets dark at 17:00...
I have excactly the same problem. What i even noticed is that, it becomes dark even before i manage to get home after school, so you're definently right. Also Hei ^^
I'm from Norway as well, and I really feel like light doesnt affect my ability to sleep at all. Its all about consistant rythm, going to bed the same time every night etc.
dioacdcironmaidenftw Would be interesting to know if us northeners have evolved to be less impacted by this, due to the irregularity of our light during the year.
my lifestyle has changed, by moving to the city and working in an office now. It's made me become less active than ever before and with it being cold, wet and dark outside, doesn't help. All I do is lay in bed for half a day after getting the 9 hours sleep.
Download a program called flux, it will automatically change the brightness and colour (less blue light) of your screen when it gets later in the day. I've got it on both my PC and my phone.
Flux program is a life saver. Options: 2.7 K through 6.5 K. But anything above 4.5 K is killing your vision in the long-term. So, I set to 3 K constantly (day or night) in F.lux, also set 30% of screen brightness and never care about cues of blue light. AMOLED and IPS screens are also a must. Basically, Flux almost doubles the time you can tolerate on a screen without damaging the optical nerve. Also, with my settings, I don't even care about my lengthy screen-time before sleep, I close the laptop cover and in 2 minutes I fall asleep for 7+hours, actually flux and reading Pdfs, is much better hypnotic and relaxing than reading a book in a yellow fluorescent light
Annoyingly, everyone I know uses max screen brightness on their phone/laptop/computer screens, all the time. I have trained myself to lower the brightness until a white screen looks just like a white paper. Then it's really comfortable to use for example now in the YT comments. I only turn it up when I sit down to watch a movie or play a game and I don't want to miss any detail. When I point it out to them (e.g. girlfriend facebooking for hours before going to sleep or workmates programming 8h/day in front of a Sun-bright screen) they are amazed at the concept and confess they never toy with the brightness settings. Appalled face.
***** Take a moment first to read about the suprachiasmatic nucleus in your brain, then you will start paying more attention to your screen's brightness. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suprachiasmatic_nucleus
Agree. I personally don't like to set the brightness of my laptop at maximum level not only because of battery problems, but also I feel really uncomfortable when too much light penetrates my eyes
But I constantly tired all the time, all the way from the minute I get up to the minute I go to bed. no matter how much sleep i get, I could sleep for 1000 years and it STILL wouldn't be enough.
I thought artificial lighting was dimmer than daylight? When switching on lights in daytime, I see the daylight outshines them even when cloudy (well, most of the time). You can also test this when pointing an optic fiber to the sky or to a lamp.
If you download Flux for your PC or Twilight for your phone you it will make the screen go a tinted yellow color so you don't get the blue light keeping you awake.
Actually for some people, it is their fault that they fall asleep so late because they caused themselves to fall asleep even later than they would have by not fighting their tiredness and just getting up at the time they were supposed to the previous days.
Hannah has explained in the past about a lot of interminglings of people with graphs and such ... what makes a video go viral? lotsa math graphs please ...
I met a man who could not sleep even when he counted sheep. So I told him " if he pleased to go on UA-cam and watch Headsqueeze ... the background is trace inducing why is that?
Then can we say that our melatonin level rises during a boring lesson regardless the brightness? Because it is the time period when everybody is sleeping although it is not a regular regime. ?? I mean you explaining sleeping as something that is caused by melatonin level. Then boring lessons and movies or something of that kind would not make us sleep.
My head he's are severed it started rom the side then gets to the top then goes down to the neck and then I get a panic and. Anxiety also can you help me
I could do with some help :3 So I'm 16 and yeah, me and sleep haven't got on well for quite a few years... I'm not as bad now but 2+ years ago I would stay up app night on a school night or go to bed at like 4 or 5 and then get up at 7 (hey, I didn't choose the thug life). But it got so bad that I developed this blackness under my eyes and it's such an incredible confidence blow it isn't funny; it's such a big blow that I can't even look at a girl straight in the eyes :'( I would love, even kill, to get rid of them but would just getting enough sleep get rid of them? If so, why haven't they gone already because although I don't go to sleep at the right time I still usually get 7 or 8 hours, usually. So I've always thought, is it nor more of a matter of going to bed on time? Would doing that get rid of the blackness? :( It's such a huge issue for me and I would do anything to get rid of it :'( Sleep usually is an issue for me as I'm sure I have insomnia as there have been quite a few times where, for example, I would try to get to sleep at 11:30pm and still be wide awake at 5:30am :s But to be honest, weed helps absolute utter wonders for it, a long with many other benefits. It helps me to just lie down and fall asleep and have just deep and good sleeps :3 Anyway, can anyone help me?

Sometimes I think I've seen what time it is while I'm sleeping. Then I wake up thinking I've seen the time already.
BRB, sending this video to my boss.
PS : More Hannah Fry, please!
More on the way...
***** , we want a Hannah Fry video every week, or every day. Not every couple of months or so

I agree in that I think it's more about the routine (I'm from sweden by the way) right now it get's plenty dark around 14:00-15:00.
i live in the north of sweden and it's dark all the day right now, no sun light for a few weeks
dioacdcironmaidenftw Would be interesting to know if us northeners have evolved to be less impacted by this, due to the irregularity of our light during the year.
where the hell is James May?? He makes this so much more special..
my lifestyle has changed, by moving to the city and working in an office now. It's made me become less active than ever before and with it being cold, wet and dark outside, doesn't help.
All I do is lay in bed for half a day after getting the 9 hours sleep.
Listen to your voice before bed done it for me, that monotone voice put me in great rem sleep cycle
Hands down one of my favourite Headsqueeze videos... Very cool!

Wow, this app really does lessen the stress on my eyes!
Thank you for telling me the name QWQ
Does anybody else just...notice her voice and accent is so cool
No

I do the exactly same thing, fellow youtuber.

I turn it up when it's bright and turn it down at night. All my screens, be it cellphone or computer.
Hannah is so great I love her videos
I really like this woman, good commentator, very entertaining :)
But I constantly tired all the time, all the way from the minute I get up to the minute I go to bed. no matter how much sleep i get, I could sleep for 1000 years and it STILL wouldn't be enough.
I feel you what wrong with us
My circadian cycle is just completely random... I can stay up the entire night if I want some days, but some days I can't even stay up till 6pm..
03:20 Thats why I use the free program flux on my computer.
There was something I could do about it. I registered for evening classes.
I thought artificial lighting was dimmer than daylight? When switching on lights in daytime, I see the daylight outshines them even when cloudy (well, most of the time). You can also test this when pointing an optic fiber to the sky or to a lamp.
And of course i watch this, on my smartphone, right before i should be getting to sleep. Lol. Good night.
I'm watching this video on my bed midnight now :)
Well done!
If you download Flux for your PC or Twilight for your phone you it will make the screen go a tinted yellow color so you don't get the blue light keeping you awake.
On desktops, you can also install f.lux which works similar to the Android app that she mentioned.
So looking at a bright screen when waking up helps with tiredness? It feels like it works for me.
""What happened; what about the glands?!"
We should have the night day and the day day. Society would never stop and everybody would be able to work according to their own cycle.
Yeah the only problem with blocking blue light is that it looks very odd on screen.
1:29 Nobody gets this. "Oh if you're tired just go to bed and get some sleep!"
The reason i use F.lux on my PC. Helps quite a bit.
Well, I've just watched this at 1 a.m.
Guess I'll be sleepy by 2 a.m. then
I wear amber tinted glasses all day in front of the screen, not just before sleep, as blue light is actually harmful to the eyes.
What's the music in the background? I love me some good jazz clarinet! Also, what if I'm my tiredness when graphed looks more like a W?
So out of the blue you start uploading proper videos....on this dead channel
I feel like unsubscribing
Is there a way to utilize this information to force the levels such that we no longer need sleep?
You have a serious voice fry in every sentence.
I'd say it's more of a naughty vocal fry.
Actually for some people, it is their fault that they fall asleep so late because they caused themselves to fall asleep even later than they would have by not fighting their tiredness and just getting up at the time they were supposed to the previous days.
well I'm playing games at 1 in the morning but I need like 10 hours to be awake that 7 or 8
I used to be very far In the "left" now I'm to far in the "right"
Finally, I don't have to take the blame lol.
What is the app you can get for your phone?
I can fix morning tiredness, it is called an Energy Drink!
I work the midnight shift....so i'm screwed no matter what lol.
what's about books before sleep?
What's the app called?
Hannah has explained in the past about a lot of interminglings of people with graphs and such ... what makes a video go viral? lotsa math graphs please ...
Going through two minds weather watching this video was a good idea or not
Cool, mention the app and what it does without naming it, that's fine....
ere yar luv: justgetflux.com/
:) Thanks!
Is there a program for computers that works like that app on the smartphone?
***** yeah- look up f.lux (justgetflux.com). Makes your screen more red/orange when its dark outside. Works on time zones and sunrise/sunset times
l4pin OK, thanks.
I met a man who could not sleep even when he counted sheep. So I told him " if he pleased to go on UA-cam and watch Headsqueeze ... the background is trace inducing why is that?
Haha anyone else watch this video just before going to bed?
Isn´t there somo sort of medication to change me into an early riser?
Well I am tire cause is 5 in the morning right now.

Y n name of app?
All this is fine... Where's James May?

Then don't have anxiety
I could do with some help :3

Goddamn they literally talk to us like we're mentally handicapped
So.. what the heck am I supposed to do 1h before bed? :(
Like it
I'm tired all the time. Doesn't matter about my circadian cycle.
Btw, redhead is hot.
Besides obvious reasons, why do people become lazy?
i once stayed up for 56 hours. you don't want to know what I looked like afterwards. XD
Let teenagers go to school at 11:30 then send them home at 6.30 Whats the problem most people don't leave work till then anyway.
HHHHaaannnnnaaaahhhhh!!

This woman's not bad at explaining, but would it kill her if she could add a little more enthusiasm while explaining?
