One of my cats which is called Tink (short for Tinkerbell). She will be lieing down or sleepy, my dad will say to her "Tink" in a slightly funny way, and then then every time he says it, she meows. Really cute.
That sound you describe with the two waveforms isn't a purr, it's a meow (or cry). A purr is a low rumbling sound made by cats in the back of the throat, but is not aspirated, while a meow is an aspirated sound. A purr can be created while the cat is breathing in AND out but the meow is only made while breathing out.
easternblot most people would not refer to it as a purr though so it is some what confusing to call it that in a video without stating the context in the video it's self
well this is not completely accurate... I mean its true most cats dont really care about their owners but some of them are obsessed by them and refuse to eat when they leave for vacations. I had trouble with cats before while i was pet sitting because unlike dogs, they can't just replace the attention with someone else. Dogs are genetically feeling pleasure from interacting with all humans, but cats only like a few people. They are much harder to get close to, thats true but it still doesn't mean all cats don't love their owners. Its just that they are a more recently domesticated species and as such, only some of them are actually loving cats.
Cats always care, if you compare them with dogs, then you suck at training a cat, people have to know their body language, even street cats care about me
My cat never purs when it's hungry or close to the kitchen. Only when it's being pet or groomed. It'll make a high pitched heart wrenching meow when it's hungry or it want's something else.
My Freya will come running across the house when I come home or call her (unless she's asleep, but even then she'll typically wake and come) so I guess my kitten is just too sweet and cares too much about me to "not care" Also cats will often do a head bob as a sign of recognition and welcome, but they didn't mention that as a criteria. I imagine they didn't consult an actually behaviorist.
All that is BS. I have 12 cats (blame the Mrs) and they don't control me. They get their food at scheduled time. I don't get up when they want. They respond every time. Heck I even trained one to say please.
What about your wife..is she the same to you. I've discovered that my cat will go straight to my mum when he wants out or food, keeping her up for hours at night, but whenever he was left with me for a week, he just wasn't the same towards me.
My cat doesn't control me. I feed him at 4 in the morning because I want to. My cat switches between liking dry and wet cat food. I don't have to the kind he likes I simply go to the cat food store and get it. It's not unusual. You will see a lot of people buying cat food in the middle of the middle of the night. I can also get bread, milk, vegetables and all the stuff I need but that's beside the point. I'm in control.

One of my cats Tink, she used to be really close to me, when I used to play with her, or stroke her, after a while, she would stand up and then walk over to me and press her head against my face, and I know that action is one of the greatest signs of affection a cat can give you, she still does it, but not as much as she doesn't sleep in my room as much (the cats seem to have a 1-2 week cycle where they sleep in a location, and then after a while, they move on to a new one, though Tink slept in my room for about 2 months, now she's in my sisters room). Now one of the other cats sleep in my room, she is also a girl; Penelope or Nelope, she also loves being stroked and also presses her head into mine.
Purring? Is this a British language thing because I feel like you mean speaking or meowing. My cat's don't purr when they want food. They speak. My cat's purr when they are happy or very sick or in pain.
One of my cats will sometimes meow for me, which usually means he wants to play or a rub. If he lies down on his side, then he wants to be rubbed and stroked, but he comes into my room, it means he wants to play.
What he describes as purring is known as meowing in the U.S. That may be a British term. I don't know. It can get confusing. What we call potato chips, they call crisps; what they call chips, we refer to as fries, etc. On the other hand, perhaps he made a mistake.
Dlee645 I am British too. It is known as meowing here too. The terms are even onomatopoeic, so I assume he made a mistake (although a strange one as everyone knows the difference, even kids). Puuuuurring is the low frequency noise they make when content. Meeeeowing is the high pitched 'voice' when they want something or saying hello! He definitely meant meowing, so surprised no one corrected him. Their meows have evolved to have similar frequency to that of crying babies so we take more notice of them.
My cats in mild or warm weather greet me when I'm walking back from college, they always come out just before I get to the house. When they do get to me, they raise their heads and so I give them a stroke on the head and then they roll around on the floor, and then I rub their stomachs, after that, they just run off.
Well the researchers are wrong about "meow to respond"... They meow when they are calling for you as that's what they did to call for the mum when they were kittens, but as cats get older, they used body language to talk to each other, but still meow to people as it's the best way for them to talk to us...
Since when is 380 Hz a high pitched sound? It falls in the range of low mids. And also, so THAT'S why I find myself humping the litter box every time I get sauced up.
I think he meant the perfect MEOW, not "purr"... I have never heard an irritating purr... Purring is a sweet, gentle, calming rumble sound cats make when they're happy... Very odd that he would get that word mixed up.
I have 3 cats. My niece has 2 cats. All 5 are tje neediest animals you've ever seen. They come running when called by name. They don't meow for food, they just sit and stare at you. Mika will not eat without a cheez whiz garnish and must be petted before she will even sniff her food. Adrien will not eat unless a few Temptations treats are thrown on too of his food. Venus most be the first one in the box after it is scooped or changed. Tikki MUST go from lap to lap soliciting pets and scritches. Plushy ABSOLUTELY MUST jump on my chest EVERY day to give me face rubs and head bonks and will not leave until she is done.
depends on how you raise your cat. Also, considering that cats would give a response like a mjauu or purr when you call them is stupid. I have to criticize this, as cats by nature are silent hunters and not very social animals. Dogs are way more social and smarter animals, which is why they respond more to thier human owners. Cats don't know the language humans use as much as dogs, thus it is impossible for a cat to understands what we want from them. They can distinct between different noises we make, but they will never be sure what we mean. The cat neither understands that it is owned or needs us, they know we give them food, they can get attached to us, but they do not have the same emotional level as humans or dogs. The observation supporting this statement is because cat mothers only help their kittens up until a certain age, then they are basically on their own and the cat mother acts like she doesn't know her kittens anymore, because cats hunt alone, not in packs like wolves / dogs or humans
I've got 9 of them! 3 are British Short Hair, 6 are Burmese and yes I'm their slave. I've also noticed that they can have a certain meow that's reminiscent of a baby crying. My husband has cat proofed the garden with fishing nets! that go right the way round the garden trees, to prevent them getting into the the trees and over our boundary fences and the possibility of them going on to the road and being knocked down or kidnaped. The younger is a 2 year old Burmese and he loves the garden he will sit at the kitchen door meowing to go out, he will follow me around the house meowing until I relent and let him out or carry him around the garden, he like to make sure the birds aren't on the roof! When he sees them on the roof he sits and shouts (meows) at them to go away and get their own roof! All the cats can get me to feed them treats when they want them and get me to play with their favourite toys so they can chase or catch the toys, Burmese think they are dogs! they love nothing more than playing fetch!! When one has had enough another will begin to get me throwing their favourite toy. Still I feel privileged to have them in our lives. In the evening when I watch a little tv or read the 6 Burmese will come and sit on top of me. The British Shorthairs also demand to be given attention and treats too, but are too lazy to play a lot of games.
