I remember several parties, when this album, more specifically, this song, was always a part of what was being played. What a flashback, to the early to mid seventies. Actually, the studio version was even better, because Christine McVie was on keyboards. Of all of the different cast of characters, she just kinda made every tune, better. Bob Welch, was never really recognized, as being instrumental, to their infamous journey, but I sure loved his contribution. This tune, alone, was one of my favorite FM songs.
This is NOT a Fleetwood Mac song. It is a Bob Welch song and was written by Bob Welch. Fleetwood Mac crucifies this song. Find a recording where Welch sings it without them and you will truly hear his genius.
When I first heard this song in 1973 on KMET, it was introduced as Fleetwood Mac playing. Guess the radio host got wrong. On Fleetwood Mac's Album Mystery to Me, the song is listed on that album.
“ Well it’s the same kind of story that used to come down from years ago. Two friends, having coffee together and something flies by the window.“ This is got to be one of the stronger opening lines of 70s songs. Used to love this back in the 70’s.
I could go down all these comments and keep giving a thumbs up! To be a child of the 70’s and never listen to Bob Welch is a sin. He was one of the most underrated GREATS! Glad I found this video. Brings back COOL MEMORIES.! ☮️
Awesome. Back in 1978, I was 15, and my friend Robbie (16) drove down to Denver to see Bob Welch open for Kansas. I'll never forget this because we blew off watching the Super Bowl where the Broncos were playing Dallas. We didn't care. So we get to Big Mac and find out that Bob Welch cancelled, and some other Band by the name of Cheap Trick would open instead. Now understand that I am not a Cheap Trick fan, but they were mind-blowing. Suddenly, missing out on Bob Welch wasn't so bad, and Kansas brought the house down. Long time ago...
had a similar experience with Cheap Trick. I was the same age back in 78'...., me and a buddy would head down to a local venue that featured up and coming bands. I'd never heard of Cheap Trick. But I never forgot them...., great show. Great time in my life to hear live music....,
@@paradoxward2533 Bro, I’m 59 right now, be 60 this coming March. So you’re in my generation of music 👍🏻👨🏻🦳🇺🇸. I was 16 in 1980, just finished the 10th grade shortly after this concert, and rock music was still in full swing. F disco back then. The 10th grade (1979-80) was the year in high school that a ton of good albums came out. “Against The Wind”, “Freedom At Point Zero”, “The Long Run”, “Baby Le Strange”, “First Under The Wire”, I could go on and on and on.
Put Bob Welch in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His songwriting and playing kept Fleetwood Mac a viable act. His departure opened the door to the B-N era. Important bridge from Peter Green’s original band
Bob Welch … French KISS. 1977 …. What a well produced record ! Love the songs ! Play it all the way through washing my 1968 Chevy 2 Nova …. On 8-track of course ! lol
I never seem to find people around me that like our older music only online its like I'm the only one blasting it in my car! I tried so many times to listen to todays music I just can't its too winey. Rock will be with me till the day I die!

I had never heard of him until 197i when he wrote and performed a song that my girlfriend got me to enjoy... A top pop hit during disco years
The change in appearance is hilarious. But he was an entertainer... The vid is still also on youtube . I think. 'For your love' or "Your Precious Love" Good song
🤦♀️ Bob can't even remember his lyrics !! The pond in the original version is located on Briggs Rd. Salisbury, NC It shines like glass and sometimes has a mysterious fog that hangs over it. I've seen it many times and it's so beautiful to behold !!
@@thefonzkissI thought it was Mick's call since, right wrong or indifferent, Bob was forced to sue Mick and the Mac to get royalties that Bob thought he was owed. If that is true, not sure why Bob could not wait until after the HOF since if true, Bob would have been a shoe in since even Mick is on record that if it wasn't for Bob, The Mac would have broken up a lot sooner and before the Lindsay/Stevie years happened.
The studio version of this song is perhaps the “coolest” song I remember as a teenager when this first came out. You had to buy the LP to hear the song as it received no radio play where I lived. I didn’t know who Fleetwood Mac were and simply bought the album because of the wickedly bizarre cover art. After hearing the song for the first time I was forever a Bob Welch fan. R.I.P.
I remember in high school, I friend had a killer stereo system. When he played this tune over it, you could feel Mick's kick-drum and cymbals like they were right there. This was the moment I became an audiophile.
Our low-dial FM radio stations in coastal NC really got into this and "Sentimental Lady". So I became the super hipster rocker in Rocky Mount, NC because I was raving about Fleetwood Mac, Peter Frampton, and Lynyrd Skynyrd 2 years before anyone knew who they were!
While driving home to Tampa from St Pete one Sunday in 1976, my five year old daughter was asleep in the back seat. This song came on the FM station. I had seen FM before on TV with Bob at the lead, but had never heard Hypnotized. I got into it, then I turned back to see my daughter asleep and "Hypnotized". A peaceful moment and groove that I have never forgotten.
Yes, he made a really bad decision to leave FM just before they took the rocketship to fame and fortune. I'm afraid he never got over that and it haunted the rest of his days. You can kind of see it with his post Mac album covers with fabulous women clawing him... :) People want to make it look like the band gave him the boot but he chose his destiny unfortunately. RIP
One of my ALL-TIME favorite tunes!!! This live version is cool, but there was some great MAGIC captured in/on the studio version. The reverb on the vocals... the way electric and acoustic guitar dance together and separately... Mick's drumming, especially from intro all the way through! And of course the lyrics... one very AWESOME timeless jam!!! Now this with Peter Green's "Albatross..." now we're talking Mac attack at their finest!!!
I'm young again when I hear this outstandingly beautiful song. Bob W. Was a brilliant musician. Love this Fleetwood Mac era with him. RIP B.W. and Christine M.
Buckingham used to perform this song when he first joined Fleetwood Mac, but he wasn't able to do it justice. Buckingham was a great performer for the band and he definitely wrote some catchy tunes, but he didn't have a mystical song like this in him, and that is why I will always like Welch better.
wow. just wow. the way he works with his voice and the guitar simultaneously is just breathtaking. everyone on that stage is feeling the song so much. makes me cry tears of happiness. incredible.
When I heard this song in high school, went out and bought the album, vinyl. It didn’t get much airplay in those days. This brings back memories. Listened to FM, ELO, and other singers on KWST, LOS ANGELES. Man, those were fun days.
Have always loved this ole classic, the studio version is so captivating, enthralling & mesmerizing!! Haven’t seen a live version B4, but certainly dig this 1!!

Truth: they played in Denver, in the late winter of early 1974, as the act on stage before Rod Stewart (great energy, both fun acts!). The next day, I flew to SLC to visit Dad & brother; my HS buddy drove me to the airport, and we got high en route. "Some guy" boarding the plane in front of me, had a longgg garment bag dragging behind him, slung over his shoulder. Jerks behind me in line kept jostling me forward, so I stepped on his bag 3x (!!); I kept saying "sorry" but only the last time did he turn around. That's when I realized I was boarding behind all of Fleetwood Mac, and stepping on Welch's garment bag. 🤣🤣🤣
This was actually in 1981, 7 years after Bob left Fleetwood Mac. John, Mick, Christine and Stevie actually joined him on stage as guests for various songs at this concert!
This is another video that I'm waiting fir You Tube to catch on that I want it at the top of all my mixes. Bob Welch was one of the few artists that could do a song live and make it just as good or better than the recorded version. So sorely missed. RIP Bob Welch.
I remember when he released the album French Kiss 💋 and referred to Fleetwood Mac as his old back-up band. Bob Welch was an innovative artist to be sure.
Love the song!! love hearing it come on late night FM radio in the late seventies early 80s when I was a kid! 🎶 And I'm not sure why this wasn't a bigger hit also?🎶 Somebody mentioned that in the comments also? And Bob and I had a lot in common both musically and with back pain and back injuries.. I wish he was still around doing music.🎶🙏. but I definitely understand where he must have been in terms of pain, before he died.. it's only because my faith in Jesus and the help I got from God, that I survived..🙏 🎶🐦

Fleetwood Mac's greatest tune, notwithstanding the Peter Green era, as well as Rumors. Not one of their bigger hits can touch the feelings in this song.
Tales - This comment is 2 years late. I was inclined to comment because you started talking about "feelings" in a song. I love the early Mac era. This song is sublime, without a doubt. But from the later Mac era - their song "Sara" is simply phenomenal and a beautiful song that wasn't on 'Rumors'.
Bob Welch (r.i.p.) was a great singer/songwriter and guitarist. He was with Fleetwood Mac I believe on "Penguin" and "Bare Trees". After he left the band he formed Paris who had a hit "Black Book". The band included the bassist for Jethro Tull as well. Then he released his first solo album "French Kiss" which included the hits "Sentimental Lady" and "Ebony Eyes". Fleetwood Mac female keyboardist and singer Christine McVie (r.i.p.) contributed to the album. Then "Three Hearts" came out about a year later. Sadly Bob commuted suicide years ago.
I've loved this track for years. I strangely always associated this song with "Carlos Castenda" and Peyote?? I have never seen this video before. This is even better than the recording!. Thanks for uploading this.
second to none bobs mastery of guitar/singing try doing this all same time folks wow -i learned alot tackling this one chromatic meets blues of course im talking you have to sing play all same time
To all you Internet youngsters, this WAS a hit in the early 70's. Back when no digital algorithm could stop a good song from getting airplay.

Absolutely I heard it on the radio alot in 70s and80s!
"Hypnotized" was played a lot on "Album Rock" FM stations, in the 1970s. 👍
I never get tired of it.
I'll never understand why this wasn't a big hit. This is insanely good!
I remember this had some airplay but just got buried by Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, like everything else for awhile. It's always been a hit with me!
It was a big enough hit that later Mac tried to reproduce it....they didn't do it any justice....
It did get a lot of airplay in my market when I was a kid but usually it was mostly played at night
It came out when Led Zeppelin, Grand Funk Railroad, Three Dog Night, and other dominated the radio play
Seems like it's a delayed hit in the 21st century,
very popular song on youtube anyway

I always liked Bob Welch's style, so laid back and insightful. I would have enjoyed having a cup of coffee together.
He had a very jazzy intimate club style of singing. He truly did not get the recognition that he deserved.

Absolutely love this song. The studio version is best heard in the quiet still of the night.
SUPER GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!OUTSTAND GUITAR AND VOCALS RIP BOB WELCH!!!!!BEST OF THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Most ignored and under-rated rhythm section ever.
I always loved playing this on drums. It has a great beat.
Bobs wig is the star of the show😊👍
I've loved this track for years. I strangely always associated this song with "Carlos Castenda" and Peyote??
I have never seen this video before. This is even better than the recording!. Thanks for uploading this.
