One of my favorite staple exercises on BACK DAY! You guys know I love doing drop sets and as great as barbell bent-over rows are... it's much easier to switch up the weights on the cable machine (especially when I am training with my wife).
But as good as this exercise is, it is VERY easy to have improper form.
Utilize the tips in this video to take your training to the next level and if you would like a pair of WRIST STRAPS click the link below!

U are awesome bro Scott 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾👊🏾👊🏾👊🏾
Thanks@@edwardwilliams1772! Appreciate it!
@@ScottHermanFitness you welcome
As always.
Zero nonsense and to the point
You know that’s how I roll bro!
wtf is that a Boston or Australian accent randomly appearing
I just saw your seated low row tutorial from 14 years ago and then this.
At the time the advice was to keep your shoulder blades pinched all the time, and now we now that's not the best way. Just shows how we can always be learning more. Beautiful.
you nailed it! 14 years ago we were also taught to only go to 90 degrees (halfway) on the bench press and squat!
I think this is the hardest exercise for me not to cheat on. If I cheat, I can lift way more, but if I don‘t it‘s better for growth and injury prevention. And tbh it feels good to do it right. Thanks for your video Scott, I‘ll watch it before my next Pull day!
Thats the beauty of adding a DROP-SET! Do some cheat reps for 6 - 8 reps, then drop the weight and go strict for another 8 - 10 reps.
This way you get the best of both worlds. HEAVY Eccentrics and then controlled concentric reps!
@@ScottHermanFitnesshow do you know a newcomer to the channel? When they hadn’t heard of cheat and recovah before ;)
I've always stayed strict with no forward lean. Thanks for highlighting the WHY behind leaning like that. This is one of my favorite movements so I'm excited to fix my form
My pleasure my friend! Now you can start incorporating that little lean for more back gains!
Scientific studies show the deep stretch portion of the movement is even the most hypertrophic. So try to set up all your exercises with a big range of motion and try to pause a second in that part of the movement.
@@ScottHermanFitness your older form video for this exercise (10+ years ago) is very strict without any leaning, it's interesting to see how you've evolved
Always such good training. Thank you!
this dude rules
Great stuff as always
I started recently a few months ago and ive been following your low row guide, I wanted to double check im doing it right and there was an updated version!
UA-cam recommend me Scott videos after 13 years 🥹
I remember watching his videos in 2008 or 2009
Same lol. His videos from 10years ago were the first fitness vids i watched
I've been watching a lot of your old videos. Just watched your old low seated row video from 14 years ago and decided to see if you were still active on YT. So happy to see you're still posting videos, I admire your consistency and how well your body looks 14 years later, much love brother! 🫡
It called money and plastic surgery 🤦🏻♀️ (I know a general practitioner)
SCOTTTTTTT - loving these updated videos ❤️
Thanks bro! Yeah its been like 10 years... a good time to update the HOW TOs!
Hey Scott,
Thank you 🙏 for all the tips and tricks for a great workout. Have a great weekend man!
my pleasure! more coming bro!
Great info and presentation. Been missing this stuff!
Thanks man! Slowly getting back into a regular routine of uploads!
Thanks for the advice and instructions! Keep it up! Have a good one! 🙂💪👍✨
Herman Nation!
I'd love a video of the back routine you're doing at the moment Scott :)
(I've been watching for years, I love your style & clean to the point videos they've helped me so much!)
I’m hoping to film some more of my workouts when WAGMI settles down! Been grinding hard!
What a legend !
This is actually my favourite back exercise
hell yeah brotha
Hell yeah!!
Thank you!!
Good to know I’ve been rowing correctly! Such a different feeling stretching those lats out with the forward lean.
Yeah man, that stretch is insane!! Get those gains!
Thanks for the mid-trap and rear delt audible ideas 🔥
I love the mag grip attachment for seated rows.
I follow you just 13 years 💪🏻😎
I just came off of doing a year of physical therapy and basically just stretching for like 7 months and my cardio daily and things I could do.. back to lifting weights for 11 weeks now and man I really appreciate you Scott. I completely need to refresh my mind and stinulate that muscle memory.
Thank you for everything that you have done throughout the years. I can't tell how many times I have watched your videos through the years to get the perfect form. Thanks for being you! 💪🏻🔥🫡
Couldn't've come in a better time, as this became my main back exercise!
It's a great exercise for sure!
1000th like 😎
Super useful info, straight to the point 🙌
More of this content please
You got it!
I like to see a full length follow along workout with timers and rounds. I need to get work on my upper body because that is where the extra weight is.
I am new to fitness thing, and whenever I need to remind myself of correct form of any exercise during workout in gym, I immediately head to your channel. Always on point with best techniques.
Respect from 🇵🇰
Ive felt self conscious about this technique thinking I'm moving forward too much, but it's nice to get a confirmation that it is correct 👌 my back gains don't lie
Man your voice goes crazy once you gotta sound out an R
Smash that like button this man makes fitness easier and simple for anyone to go into the gym to make them gains.
Thats the plan! Make it simple and get the gains!
Let's see more videos like this. My forum probably could use some work on something
Can definitely do more golden rules videos!!
I'm looking forward to standing on the foot platform and leaning backwards and dropping into the bench. 😂 thanks Scott. Always appreciate the tips and I look forward to doing this on my neck back day. Hot tip on the wrist straps.
Hi how are you? Long time no see ❤
Got an idea for you iron neck workout routine 🤔
I miss you so much dude 😭😭😭
I think you should try isometrics and review it
Back Day 😮😊
you know it!
Ty for this! As a side note not sure why I never noticed your thick Boston accent haha
How come your videos don't get as much attention as others is something I can't wrap my head around. Just saw one from Jeff Nippard who just gave the same advice you've been giving for years.
That’s UA-cam for you man, always shunning the OG creators
How to do Dumbbell crush press correct form?
What split do you run?
scott is the only natty i trust
Scott do you recommend retracting out scapulas to perhaps keep pressure off our (front) deltoids and maybe help us focus on our traps/rhomboids? I may have a lingering shoulder injury because pulling with my shoulders activated exhausts and hurts my shoulders before my back can feel it
I don't know what mutated genes i have, but rows make my back grow like crazy. Thanks for the great info.
Everybody probably wishes they had those genes haha!
@@ScottHermanFitness I need the calf genes
Hopefully my gym has a veebaa. I'm excited to try it.
Let’s hope they have a vee baaaah so you can get staaaaahted!
Looks like they do. This is gonna be a game changer.@@ScottHermanFitness
Your videos are always awesome to watch 💪, but man i haven't been to the gym ifor a few years now, i used to enjoy doing the seated rows. Oh , hey Scott by any chance may you please make some videos on kettlebells, like cast iron and competition kettlebell, i bought a 50lb kettlebell from Walmart, nothing fancy, and i noticed some pretty amazing changes, no i do not do any kettlebell swings or any momentum type movements. I have been doing strict unilateral overhead presses, slow and controlled as well as dead clean to overhead press and goblet squats. What i noticed is that my shoulders are popping out nicely, especially my rear delts for some reason,y back has gotten wider snd my quads are looking or starting to look good too. I have been doing the same workout with my dumbbells with the same weight but they never gave me this effect. I thought i would share this with you and see what you think on the subject.
Appreciate the kind words! I dont have any kettlebells in my home gym, but you can use them a lot like dumbbells for most exercises. Great to use them in circuit workouts!
can help to clarify? my trainer said not to move too much on my body by leading forward. just a slight inch forward is ok and keeping your body upright. is it the same?
That weak grip thing is why I say the forearm is the most unappreciated part of the body. Jacked forearms only looks weird when they're larger than your upper arm, bicep and tricep together. Get two buckets with handles, fill them with water and just walk around until your forearms feel like jello, which shouldn't take long at all because of the water moving and your muscles trying to be stable.
In my gym people told me don't lean forward.
Is it not good to lean forward?
I've seen everyone give different forms for this exercise. 😅 Some say stay straight no movement. I do them the way you do. I perfer the underhand grip for lats. I think it shortens my arms. I have long arms. In the very beginning of the video it's basically a Jefferson curl.
What's your recommendation for rep range on this ? Do you think it can be higher because it's back ?
I would stick to your general 8 - 12 rep range my friend - you could start at 12 and then reduce the reps as you increase the weight!
Can't wait to get stahted
Hi is this a good exercise to get rid of "bat wings" fat below the arm it area
Please do forearms video brother
I have a few on my channel already! Or do you mean a golden rules video?
❤
I mean what the hell... Literally went through 50 different UA-cam videos about how to properly do this excersise and I every one of them it was different. One says you need to lean forward and back like this one, other that you have to just lean back and do the row that way, another the same, but leaned forward and in the next one you just have to be 90 degrees to the seat... How can a novice like me get any sense of it? HOW THE HELL DO YOU DO THIS EXCERSISE CORRECTLY?!
Legit i though this also. I used to keep a straight back. Tried thisway out last week to see if stretch on lats helped and i did it super slow aswell 3 secs concentric and eccentric etc and now my lower back hurts lol
Is this the same scott from 8 years ago?
Nicee
This exercise seems impossible for me, at my gym it doesn’t have the things to put my feet on there’s only the soft pads that go above your knees
Is it okay to lean a little bit? I am having a hard time leaning forward because of my tummy 🤣
I used to do this but then someone came up to me and said if I continue this form I will have rounded shoulders, thing is I wanna do it this way but everytime I go the gym that guy is there, idk do I just ignore him and get the bad looks or what
Best back workout for home with out pull down or pull up?
Do you have dumbbells or a barbell?
@@ScottHermanFitness Yeah i do have 50 pound dumbbells
I've seen people perform this exercise while sitting up straight and keeping their back arched. No forward motion and no leaning back, is that wrong?
yes, which is why I made this video 😁
@@ScottHermanFitness I thought so. It's a personal friend of mine that's a trainer. He's awesome and is very athletic, but no one is perfect and he's not always right. As soon as I switched my form to what you were demonstrating in this video, I immediately felt more engagement in my muscles and overall felt comfortable
Proper form analysis as well from Scott 🥹💪. Make one for bent over rows with suprinated grip too scott 🥹🥹
What shoes are those?
ASICS wrestling!
I stopped doing this exercise because I feel like a strong electric shock starting from the elbow and running through the forearm 😢
my back has pots?!? 0:22
Need to do a DBZ episode with all that's happened!
Hi Scot are these straps also for women?
yes, they will work for anyone! Great question!
Do people actually need to strap up on this exercise? I have very poor grip strenght and I dont have any issue with this exercise. It's deadlifts and deadlift variants that are impossible to me without straps.
Good video, I like this form a lot more than "strict" rows. More back, less biceps.
*PromoSM* 😌
That's not called a V-bar. It's called a double-D handle. A V-bar is an actual 'V' for triceps. The reason why this is called double-D is because it's basically 2 single D-handles combined. Holla :)
It’s all interchangeable 😁 this kind of handle has been called a v-bar / v-handle for years, but I know what you mean - there’s also the v-bar for pushdowns!
V bah
Nip slip
always!
🗣🗣Why is it that Americans have to scream all the time? Thanks for the info, though.
It's incredibly irritating. 🇬🇧
Do you even age? lol
Like these how-to videos. I do notice that you seem to be copying Jeff Cavalier in doing them but hey so what, turn about is fair play right! Also, did you see Jonni Shreve just copied your "only 2" series??? Man this sh*t is getting out of hand. The level of disrespect is off the charts. Terrible what youtube has done to you too. They just put you and your videos in the dumpster it seems. Never ever get recommended your stuff anymore. Others say its because your videos stink but I tell them they're crazy. Always a defender man. Love you Scott.
Y r u shouting?
