I just finished reading some information from Caesar Guerini and they were explaining why their chokes are not made from stainless steel. Instead their chokes are made from the same steel as their barrels. The reason is that stainless steel flexes less than the barrel and distorts the shot column more. They indicate that’s why a lot of shooters like fixed chokes better. I thought it made sense and was interesting.

Completely agree with the theory you promote here, however on the pattern board I've never seen any difference between flush and extended chokes in any of my guns.
I still use extended chokes in my competition guns as the chokes are simply easier to change. I use flush in my hunting guns as it keeps the gun more compact.

I agree, many times it’s hard to see much of a difference. I’ve seen some shotguns over the years that you can definitely see a noticeable difference, sometimes even shifting the point of impact. Honestly it’s very personalized for each shotgun so to speak. That’s interesting you keep the flush mount in your hunting guns but if you want to keep the length down that makes perfect sense
