Hello from Manado,North Celebes, Indonesia. Nice to see ypu back again making video. There's so much Chinese influence in that city apparently. Anyways good luck on your journey in Vietnam.
Vietnamese customs, food, markets and religion seem to retain strong lineage flavor from Chinese culture. Yet Vietnam's modern Latin script based on Romance languages originally developed by Portuguese missionary Francisco de Pina put up an impenetrable barrier to any Chinese reader. Chinese can read a Japanese newspaper and guess the approximate meaning of the contents, as some Chinese words are still in use. Not a chance with Vietnamese script. Colonial rulers of Vietnam were very successful in cutting one of the important cultural umbilical cords connecting Vietnamese to Chinese.
that may be true. There's still some traditional characters around, but the country has embraced the uniqueness of their script which has taken on a life of its own.
