  • Doing Pulls In My Street Tuned D16 Turbo Civic!
    So 7 psi isn't much but it definitely brings my Civic to life! We're going for a ride today in my 1999 Turbo D16 Civic. It's running 7 psi of boost on stock internals (ARP head studs) and a brand new head. My D16 Turbo Civic is street tuned by myself - it's a work in progress for sure. This car is what kicked off Tuner Things, it's my pride and joy, and I'm incredibly happy to be at a place with it where I can bring it out and cruise with it!

    Those pulls bring back memories of when I boosted the JDM D15B VTEC that was in mu EJ8 Civic. It ran great and pulled pretty hard for a single slammer.

      It definitely felt nice. Any more and I wouldn't feel comfortable on stock internals.. I think the ARPs are doing the trick in keeping everything together for the 7-8psi its on now! Thanks for taking the time to not only watch but comment as well brother I really appreciate it!

      @@TunerThings I ran 8 psi on it and it felt like the perfect boost for a street/strip car, but I ran as much as 12 psi without having problems. It's honestly all in the tune. The fuel system has to be up to the task and you have to pay close attention to your air fuel ratio under boost, because that's whats going to tell you how much fuel to add and at what RPM range. I'm not a tuner, but I know quite a few of them and I currently own two boosted Hondas. I've been doing this for quite a while, but Im more of a builder, not a tuner. You'll get the hang of it though.

      @@TunerThings Also, eventually you'll either get tired of the limited power and build the single cam, or you'll do a B18B1 swap and send it. I swapped mine and boosted it immediately and it ran so great. A guy in my car club sold me a B18B1 and told me that it only had 110k miles on it and then once it spun a rod bearing told me that it had over 225k on it. It ran great and pulled hard for almost 20k miles though, so I guess I can't complain for $250.

      @@Brock_Landers yeah I'm gonna drive this into the ground then go b18b1 for sure. I'm planning on boosting my Integra here in the next few months as well, the b18 is great but it could use a little kick

    Never had good luck with the rods bearings in the d series. Once I spun bearings in 2 motors, I decided it was b time and I never looked back. Its hilarious our cars are almost identical besides rims. Running 7 on mine as well. No vtec as of now but im rebuilding my b16 head now and waiting on some parts to put it on....but can't wait to have an lsvtec on boost. I hear that vtec kick and I get jealous.

    • @TunerThings
      @TunerThings  3 роки тому

      My problem so far has been lifting heads but soon as this engine decides it no longer wants to play nice I'll be going b series. I love the feel of the b18 in the integra so should be fantastic turbo and in the civic!

      @@TunerThings you won't regret it. I build all my own stuff and have lots into what I have but if I had to do it all over again, I'd save and go just straight gsr or type r swap. But those are extremely expensive around my way, whereas I can get a full b18b swap for a few hundred.

    • @NotOldYetGaming
      @NotOldYetGaming 3 роки тому +1

      @@TunerThings oh. And arp studs will for sure help with lifting if you dont have them yet.

    Any particular things you recommend reading to help get the basics of tuning down? I am looking to go turbo on my eg at some point soon hopefully. Right now I am tuned by someone who did a fantastic job but moved too far away from where they are now. Really thinking about learning tuning myself but it's a little scary when looking at possibly blowing your engine up especially with a turbo. Was this the first turbo you ever tuned?

    • @TunerThings
      @TunerThings  3 роки тому

      Yeah first turbo car I've tuned. I'm about to do the tune on my integra soon as I finish putting everything together. Just take it slow and don't go too crazy with the timing without a dyno or knock detection kit. Other than that just understand what you're changing when you mess with something - facebook has a ton of tuning groups that are very helpful

    • @xex2kok
      @xex2kok 3 роки тому +1

      @@TunerThings Were you tuned before you went turbo and you just started with your old NA tune and modified it from there?
      I'm definitely going to start small. I have heard from many places that you may not even want to touch the timing on a street tune and save that for the dyno but that was with NA and I assume turbo is different there. The guy that tuned my car had like a homemade stethoscope with a tube that he attached to the engine that went to some headphones.

    • @TunerThings
      @TunerThings  3 роки тому

      Nope the car was stock before that, I started with a blank map and tuned it on the street! Yeah don't mess with the timing too much on the street you def need a dyno or knock monitor to do too much there. The stethoscope headphone setup is a great way to monitor knock! There's a diy on one of the honda forums for a good set

      Idles normal and will benefit turbo spool etc...
      I feel d series engines dont have the oe rev range that the b series do..
      So added cam will allow power to be made til like 8100 8200..
      Cus w a stock head, you gotta make sure u get a turbo that will spool fast enough to max psi.. before you run out of rpm.. so w a cam makin power to 8000 lets say and fully spooled at 4000 4500... thats good right?
