I enjoyed Francis’ interview with Mitt Romney; what a sensible and rational guy!
And a good glimpse as to why the myopia of Obama towards Russia has influenced the reticence, reluctance, foot-dragging, and cowardice of the Biden administration.
what about Mitt Romney? Sorry, couldn't resist.
I also enjoyed it because Mit makes absolute sense about all of it. Just pray some drunken swine doesn't push the wrong button during one of their stupid temper tantrums.
I saw the full video interview on UA-cam about 10-15 minutes so search for it. Reminds me when Democrats and Republicans were able to reach across the aisle. Ronald Reagan and Tip O'Neil reached an historic budget deal in the '80s, so sensible. Today it could Never get done. I hope someday extremists in both parties will be whittled down, replaced by center-left center-right adults who can reach tax, spending, foreign policy, climate, budget, AI and other deals in which both sides get enough but not all and the nation moves forward much more United.
This podcast is my trusted daily go-to for Ukraine news. Best analysis, most engaging commentators, fascinating interviews. Cheers to the team!!

Great reporting, Romney has my respect!
Another excellent podcast. I really appreciate all of this reporting. It is so very important and very well done.
Great show as usual. I sure do wish we had people like Romney to vote for in America's next election. I don't agree with all his politics, but he's smart, and he loves this country. Who will step up to defeat Trump? Someone must.
RFK is the bigger threat, if he goes 3rd Party and doesn't get back in line like Sanders. He shouldn't be underestimated the way they did in 2016. That is how we lost the colonies, King George III had to fight his liberal ministers all the way and was the last to consent to separation. If the colonies were still with the UK in 1939, then Hitler would never have gone into Poland or the the Kaiser into France. Trump will be neutralized by the judicial system. They need to give RFK one last chance, then unleash the dogs. IMHO
Romney is a creep! What a coward he was when he ran for president, marginally smarter than Obama, he got wiped out in the debates because he has no moral fiber. He supports the war because it is popular. I support the war because it is the right thing to do to help defend Ukraine
prison will do that job.
You'd think so. But I get introduced to UA-cam shorts with comments in the thousands of Americans acting like Trump is the person who speake sense.. Saying remember when a president spoke sense? That's what the rest of the world used to say when Trump spoke because he was always smoke and mirrors never answered questions went on rants didn't make sense.
@@S0ulinth3machin3 Risky bet.
As a citizen of Utah I can confidently say that Senator Romney has done an excellent job representing our State and our constituency. It's admirable what he's doing by stepping down to make room for a new generation. However, I'm not alone in my opinion that he has been a great leader and we're sad to see him go.
🇺🇲💕🇺🇦
While I agree it's time for a new generation to take over, he's one of the last of my parent's generation I'd pick to leave Congress.
I'm never a big fan of Boris Johnson's populist politics. But his voice, "This hideous and barbaric venture of Vladimir Putin....," really set the rally cry for Western Europe. I've never trusted France and Germany taking a decisive stance in support of Ukraine. Something feels amiss each time I don't hear it. His voice should be reinstated. It's one of the few voices of reasons when everyone else was cowering at the thought of what Putin might do next.
Even a broken clock can says the right time twice a day

Senator Romney will be missed when he leaves Congress.
I respect Senator Romney even if I don't agree with his party however any American millennial would agree with me that it is at the moment, impossible to "step up" when the baby boomers and the old guard won't relinquish power. This has been our generation's biggest struggle in American politics.
It might help to have a better, more freedom centered message. So far, American millennials are mouthing the same socialist/fascist rhetoric as their Boomer counterparts.
I agree its time for a change, but change has to be in the offering.
Mr Romneys "Make Republicans Reasonable Again"-Campaign seems to be in full swing in this interview, how kind and likable he sounds compared to the populist crowd .... makes me sad
Then vote in the Republican primary -- and vote the only candidate in EITHER party who has expressed an intellectual, cogent, articulate grasp of the dangers of Tsar Vladimir Putin -- vote for Nikki Haley so that we can end this barbaric war.
Haven't heard of her yet. How does she compare to Marjorie Taylor Greene? I can't believe that woman has voters.
@@myshepspud1 Nikki is a bit more sensible, however, she thinks that Trump took the GOP in the right direction, she basically doesn't like his style - while marjorie clearly adopted and embraced it. She also figured jan 6 was an ugly event, immediately.
I distinctly remember watching the Obama Romney debate in a McDonalds, and when that "The 1980's called, they want their foreign policy back" comment was made, I couldn't believe my ears
It was a fair assessment. In 2007 Putin was named Time Person of the Year and it seemed Russia was turning a page. Yes, Georgia happened after that but that doesn't make Russia the #1 geopolitical threat. To that end, they frankly still aren't that much. Russia poses a near-zero threat to NATO, comparatively.
The Russia response was out of left field and not on the minds of anyone at the time. Both then and to this day it is quite clear who the #1 geopolitical threat is: China.
And people are t seeing the big picture which is- this is Chinas proxy war against the west, hiding behind Russia and letting it do the dirty work.
Romney had vision and foresight that Obama never had. Romney was not the "star" and populist that Obama was. Obama wanted to be loved; he wasn't concerned so much about being right. (Obamacare will reduce health care costs, for example.) Obama never dared to confront Russia. (The "red line in the sand" concerning Russia's use of chemical weapons in Syria; and Russia's first invasion of Ukraine.) The Obama-Biden people are reticent and even fearful of Russia -- hence the foot-dragging concerning weapons for Ukraine. Blinken is almost as feckless today as he was in the face of Russian aggression during his tenure in the Obama administration. Nothing much has changed except that America's NATO allies have dragged the Biden administration kicking and screaming into this conflict. Were it not for NATO and EU unity, this administration (comprised of Obama veterans) would be sitting out the conflict as they did the first Russian invasion of Ukraine. They are "moral equivalence" students (Cold War period) by training and anti-defence ideologues by political inclination. Just look at the texts that Biden used when he was teaching political theory at the University of Pennsylvania.
UKRAINIAN FILM FESTIVAL!!!!!!! Love it
I'm a liberal leftie myself and I remember being disgusted by Romeny's politics back in the day. So I am surprised to hear how much his world view has changed and how these old school republicans seem much more level headed than the newer generations. I agree, current republicans taking power would be disasturous for the U.S.
I phoned Demtry Pezkov and asked what Putin plans do with his air defences and navy and he told me its not a good time as the Kremlin offices are full of farts and smell so rancid he can't think straight right now, Demtry basically said the MOD only has one good working day which is Monday as the offices have had time to air out over the weekend and best to call back then
Excellent 👌 😂
I hope they start smoking in this farty kremlin room
This has been an intelligence gold mine for the west. The weakening of the Russian state has been just as important. We need to support Ukraine as long as it takes, for Russia to get back in her borders;

Dominic is in rare form today with his jocular mocking re: "the film". Kudos for making me chuckle.
As strange as it sounds this was all started by the RAF in November of 1940, when it did a similar thing to Mussolini's Italian Navy in the Taranto Harbor. Then it was 21 Fairey Swordfish and now it is 10 Storm Shadows. Many people say it was the Japanese at Pearl Harbor who pioneered this type of attack, but they actually copied the RAFs Taranto Harbor raid. Both raids also occurred at night. After Taranto, the Italian Navy was equally rendered defenseless and they stayed in harbor for much of the war, fearing to lose their capitol ships.

mr Romney is right. This goes beyond Ukraine. It's a message sent to the world that we want to all be done with imperalist wars. No more glory by conquering. We want peace. And we need to make a strong message. Dictators don't respond to kindness, they see it as weakness. We need to support Ukraine to the fullest extent NOW.
I heard an excerpt from something Mitt Romney said...that he was moving aside to give room for a generation coming in. He wanted to make it possible for the younger people to shape America's future...
Unless, those younger representatives uphold our Constitution and out faith foundation, we don't need their version. The young seem more concerned about fun and pleasure, then shaping America. Young that go around championing causes without discerning the motives or intent of all players.
I'm not a fan of Trump, but I will say all USA politicians were talking free trade, and reducing trade deficit. He was the first to really act directly against China. Gotta give credit to him on that.
Excellent
I always estimated Russian official figures to be about 1/3 of the reality.

Don’t Russians admit to just 9000 dead soldiers, where the true count is somewhere north of 150,000?
Actually why don't drone boats use smoke grenade launchers or the chaff from military aircraft to distract the target also.
I watched the full Romney interview yesterday. Honestly pretty good, but man, I wish these Republican defectors had the guts to come out and say they'll support Biden over Trump. At the end of the day they're partisan loyalists just the same.

20% off isn't enough. It depends on the category too. The air kill claims in particular are absurd and obviously false. Oryx would be far more accurate for things that are difficult to hide, like air kills. I strongly support Ukraine, and I also support rigor and accuracy of information. The russian losses are already staggering, they don't need to be inflated. Then again it's normal in any war where they don't have a very modern, digitised military. Mutiple units can claim a single vehicle kill, and higher ups will just write down what is reported. It suits them to give the inflated numbers to their superiors too. Putin likely has less accurate information on his own military's performance than NATO does.

When someone says that Assad gassed its own people just before he attempted to "free" them, it shows the contempt to the listeners, unless the listeners are really that stupid.
Well, because of "intelligent" listeners that doubted the narrative, Obama never enforced the Red Line and that made a whole pig's breakfast of the US peace strategy in the Middle East. When they got stymied in Syria they could not go on to democratize all of the other countries on the list.
