@@blueskies7357 The only solution is for ru to dissolve, you say. The only solution to what? And why would people in ru want to dissolve their country? Oh, you've meant it's the only solution to Russian aggression? Well, if you want to understand the other side you need to look at things from their point of view. As far as I know, Russians do not perceive their own actions as aggression but, to give you just one example, as defence: like defending Russians and Russian speakers who since 2014 have been discriminated and persecuted in Ukraine so they have exercised their right to self-determination, created those breakaway republics which then asked and have been finally accepted into RU in 2022 (so not dissolving but strengthening and incorporating). So now Russians believe these new territories is RU territory and they will not stop until they take it under full control. Since Ukraine with NATO's assistance is unable to dislodge Russians, and because in this war of attrition Russians have an advantage (not to mention technological and industrial advantage) then it is just a matter of time before they complete their goal. So if it is just a matter of time and how many people will die, then if you are concerned about human lives as I am concerned, the only solution to stop the war is to not allow Ukraine to NATO and negotiate with Russians, or at least that was the only solution at the beginning of the war (in 2022). Unfortunately, since then things progressed and a price tag increased, so I don't know what else in addition will satisfy Russians but it would be very unlikely, very costly and almost impossible for them to try to occupy the entire Ukraine, after all it's a vast country, so I think they will stick to Russian-speaking regions. Paradoxically, the more West helps Ukraine the more people die and the more Ukraine gets destroyed, after it's a proxy war between US and NATO and Russia (as Russians would say they are defending RU from NATO encroachment). Anyway, this post is more than long enough so maybe I will leave any further explanations to some other time. To get a better idea of what is going on I would advice to seek information and opinions from varied, diverse and opposing sources.

Absolutely spot. It has been nauseous to watch Ukraine being drip fed the stuff they need. Cowardice from USA and others. Many thousands of innocent lives being lost.
Not cowardice--observant of wider factors of much greater impact. Consider if Nato had arrived the day after Russia invaded. Putin, with the simple delay of communications and the swamping of videos showing Nato's arrival, would have declared Russia was being invaded without provocation by the evil West! That's 150 million russians, 400 million Europeans, 330 million Americans, 400 million Middle Easterners, etc. Get the wider issues? The pace the US, UK, Germany, France et. al., have chosen makes it dead certain there can be no rational person who can think the West attacked Russia. Not even still to this day. It is solely a one-sided offensive war coming from Russia, with Ukraine on the do-or-die defensive, by Russia's own words, including their clergy, seeking annihilation of Ukraine and removal of both the country and the people. And the military is being given the freedom to prosecute this defensive war according to the timetable that actually works in practice for the equipment and the men using it, who are doing a stellar job, but still need training and have human limits. Two years in, with F-16's arriving finally, Russia cannot generate the hysteria they are the victims of an unprovoked attack. As @john_in_phoenix above says, the equipment was bought and paid for 30 years ago, but now it needs some maintenance and an update of the electronics before they can be put on a ship. Even under all-hands-on-deck conditions, the new electronics needs to be decided on (which of the newer generations would best fit this war and can be manufactured and acquired in the timeframe (remember, only a limited quantity is actually sitting on a shelf), then the existing units have to be dusted off, put into current working condition and tested, then fitted into the tanks or planes etc., then tested that they are working correctly with all systems integration of other electronics, as well as hydraulics, etc. These are NOT simple machines, and it's not a simple oil change. This is not ride-or-die with a little AR-15 pew-pew bungie-corded to the top of a Ford Expedition romping out through the onto the battlefield through the cratered fields. It is more like Right-or-Dead. You either get it fully right before you get to the battlefield, or you are fully Dead within 30 seconds of the other side's launch. Patience for us armchair generals, grasshopper.
brandon doesn't know what day of the week it is. His top generals are mainly concentrating on ESG/woke garbage ( whatever it is called ) and the corruption and backscratching in DC is beyond compare,it's amazing anything get's done there at all these days.
There wasn't a logistics chain capable of supporting F-16, other countries took upwards of ten years to fully implement them. Decisions were made based on order of importance therefore artillery and air defense were prioritized. Unfortunately brave Ukrainians have to fight this war slowly, methodically picking apart obstacles, targeting logistics and stretching/degrading Russian reserves. No army in the world would have been able to do much better without air superiority.
Ya , but the US tried to prevent mig29s from ex Warsaw Pact countries also so that whole series of arguments rings hollow . Remember last September’s run on Kharkiv? Imagine how much further they might have gone with sufficient supplies…
I agree migs at start White House out right refuse like someone who just brown there pants. This logistic argument bs excuse they should have started working on it earlier. Why make decisions so slow ? Lend lease nato has power fill Ukraine with weapons
Kate you continue to bring honest, interesting, and timely information, ideas, and conversations to so called internet news channels. I tend to believe what is said by you and your guests than other news organizations on any media. I'll guess that 98% of the world's media channels are filled with people that like hearing themselves talk rather than honest reporting.
18:20 I beg your pardon, sir, but the "new era" began in 2008 when Russia invaded Georgia and TO THIS DAY nobody has batted an eyelid. It was that success and indifference from the world which emboldened Putin to start taking bites out of Ukraine. And to pretend that 2014 was the beginning is to miss a trick.
Here here! Ukraine has the right and responsibility to prosecute this war! The West should shut up, sit down, and pass the ammo! Zelensky said at the start he didn't need a ride. He needs ammo.
I agree with the wait and see comment. I suspect the remainder of the defense lines will not be nearly as deep with mines, and are likely to be unmanned until the Russians withdraw from the first line. Frankly I'm quite surprised at the lack of major support from the USA. We have lots of Abrams, Bradleys and F-16s sitting in storage in case a ground war should break out in Europe. Guess what, a ground war has broken out in Europe, and we have a chance to decisively defeat Russia without US casualties. What are we waiting for, what is the point of this dribble of weapons? Most of the equipment was paid for 30 years ago. Give it some maintenance and update the electronics and put them on a ship.
Part of the NATO agreement stops that from happening. NATO would not encroach upon WARSAW PACT countries & vice versa. The choice to join NATO has to be voted on in the country & some other hoops to jump through. I am not knowledgeable about NATO or WARSAW agreements but they still hold legal weight. Google it if you want. I have lost interest.
@@bunzeebear2973 Neither NATO or the US signed anything saying we could not supply Ukraine with weapons. Look it up yourself. Warsaw pact no longer exists, Poland is part of NATO now. Your comment makes zero sense.
Hopefully UK government ministers are listening to these interviews and taking notes about opinions from true experts in their field. If Nato ends up being involved directly in this war, then UK armed forces will probably have to continue just supporting it from a distance.
The more I listen to this brilliant man, the more I think he knows the real truth about the West’s reluctance to send weapons to achieve victory for Ukraine. And yes, there is a chance NATO will end up fighting for Ukraine and their own security. Where are the tanks and the jets ?
Let's give the Ukrainians the best long range weaponry, now, that they need to promptly get all their pre-2014 land back and stop this ongoing war crime with a minimum further loss of Ukrainian (and perhaps Russian) lives).
Sir, I know that many servicemen/women and veterans share your views and agree with your assessment of the situation. You can't trust Russia under Putin and you certainly can't believe a single word they say. I hope your views find resonance with politicians throughout the free world. Ukraine will continue fighting with, or without international support. They have no choice. This war is, for Ukraine, existential. If they loose the consequences will be unthinkable and we will all hang our heads in shame, anger and fear for generations to come.

From Canada: For someone who is watching this Russian savagery closely and in the process hears a lot from a host of military observers this chap strikes me as a stand-out no BS guy who is on the right track. How much Russian history does it take to realize reality? The few Gorbachev years of freedom were almost over as soon as they began. The societal decline into totalitarianism met almost no resistance. The brave few - Navalny et al - have been brutally extinguished. Expansionism is their raison d’être. It is grim to reach the conclusions this former general espouses. But he’s right. The drip by drip military responses are inadequate. The preparedness for attack on NATO allies, if not back shelved, have not been in the forefront. Nuclear blackmail is working. The realization that total war could suddenly flash up has not resulted in western countries preparing its citizenry - a fact that only plays in the threatening mind set in the Kremlin. Pretending to be ready for war with Russia is not he same as being ready for war with Russia. The former tempts them to push limits, the latter to resile. Candidly this general makes it clear he’s not directly in touch with policy makers but only hopes to reach them through channels like this UA-cam. Those of us who watch can help by doing more than merely observing. Email this to your local representative, your senators, your MPs, congress people, and other policy makers. And demand a meaningful response.
Keep inviting Sir Richard for his analysis and commentary. Amazing guy! Sets "his face like flint" and has a wonderful voice. Ignore his predictions only with national peril!! Thank you!!
Finally an English pundit sees there parallel with Ireland and England The Crimea of Ireland (the northern part of Ireland) is still occupied using a planted population as an excuse.
Give it up. The English & Irish that moved to Canada or elsewhere built a new world as equals. You scab pickers whingeing about atrocities you don't even remember except that you cultivate hatred & indoctrinate your kids to carry on the tradition.
How is that this man can see the need to change course on defence in this country and others and the people in positions who should be able to see this keep their heads buried in the sand. Just what does it take to get this simple (and to many people, evident) message through to senior political leadership? An excellent interview.
This guy is living in lala land as are most people on these message boards. Encouraging talk may be fine, but believing your own propaganda is potential for disaster. This guy has never fought an enemy that could fight back, despite his tough talk. and had the backing of the US at every turn Britain has basically a self defense force at best, half its combat power in 91. He also needs to pick up a history book. Crimea has been Russian since the 1700s.
I absolutely respect and admire Maj. General Sir Shirreff. However, I humbly take minor issue with one of his assertions. By gifting so many of Britain's military assets to Ukraine, your country is not so much putting itself at risk by depleting military stores as it is using those military assets for exactly what they were designed to do - namely to defeat an aggressive and invasive Russia. It will be lovely to see the U.K. invest more heavily in it's defensive capabilities to be sure, but I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about not having the kit to fight off the Russians. Thank you for these excellent long-form interviews. Ms. Gerbeau is an excellent interviewer and presenter. I watch every interview at least twice. Slava Ukraini! God bless the United Kingdom for the leadership that it continues to provide! Michael from Champaign, Illinois, USA.
Brit here. His point was not so much that giving Ukraine our military assets is a problem, it’s that the Tory government has been consistently cutting investment everywhere over the last 15 years. You’d assume that given the current situation the Tory government would be increasing defence spending at the moment, but sadly they’ve actually just cut back spending this year. (The uk is one of the only nato countries whose spending has gone backwards). I think 80%+ of Brit’s would happily see every storm shadow missile we have sent to Ukraine. It’s just that the current government hasn’t got any plans to replace them anytime soon….
why is his head shaking all the time? if such are the general in the west then russia has nothing to worry about. he is either clueless or a terrible liar.
3 minutes for the 1st attempt at character assassination of the presenter’s, 10 mins for a false narrative, 12 for a whataboutism, 14 for a veiled nuclear threat…..
Major General Richard Shirreff is straight talking and I hope as he’s says people are listening.. a lot of lives could have been saved if they gave the Ukraines the equipment they needed on day one.. the Russians have been and are being able to dig in and prolong a work that could of ended by now
Sad to hear of corruption during this war , they need to give really long sentences to the criminals ( they will be useless at the front , the honest troops that they put more at risk will very likely execute them )

Do you mean cowardice from others like Great Britain, Simon boy?
Thank you, General. Right on. Canada here.
It started as David and Goliath, but it has slowly become David and the Neanderthal.
Ukraine v barbarians.
Joe Biden too afraid of Putin . To give the mig29 Poland had 30 of them .
Kate Chabot: consistently the best, most informative, balanced, intelligent interviews anywhere. Thanks!

Slava Ukraini! 💙💛
agree with the Major General....completely...
Always great to hear from General Sheriff!
7:41 This is what every western leader needs to hear.
Absolutely right Gen Shirreff
Hopefully UK government ministers are listening to these interviews and taking notes about opinions from true experts in their field. If Nato ends up being involved directly in this war, then UK armed forces will probably have to continue just supporting it from a distance.
Uk have got some bloody good soldiers! They would just need to borrow the kit in order to get the job done.
The more I listen to this brilliant man, the more I think he knows the real truth about the West’s reluctance to send weapons to achieve victory for Ukraine. And yes, there is a chance NATO will end up fighting for Ukraine and their own security. Where are the tanks and the jets ?
Spot on, thank you.
Kate Chebot is a brilliant interviewer.

...irmly back in their box"
This is a good interview. This guy knows what he's talking about.
I'm totally with you, major general! Our politics is sooooo slow.
Let's give the Ukrainians the best long range weaponry, now, that they need to promptly get all their pre-2014 land back and stop this ongoing war crime with a minimum further loss of Ukrainian (and perhaps Russian) lives).
As always...very thoughtful discussion. Thank you.
Great interview!!!
Love your intwrviews Kate. Straightforward questions and lenghty indept interviewing.
Thanks also to moving yoyr camera back a bit. Gives both you and your interviewee the same scale
Great Job. !! Good Guest. !!
Very well said General. I only wish you were in a better position to influence those inept politicians who have been dragging their feet for the past twelve months. Please keep at it. Cede Nullis
Perfect analysis!
the General is exactly on point. great interview as always.
Yes, I agree with the General. Thank you Sir, and thank you Times Radio.
Great interview
Unfortunately our current politicians are completely inept so don't expect much from Shapps.
great candour is wonderful.👍🏻
From Canada:
For someone who is watching this Russian savagery closely and in the process hears a lot from a host of military observers this chap strikes me as a stand-out no BS guy who is on the right track.
Very well said
Another fantastic interview!
I like hearing from that bloke.
Keep inviting Sir Richard for his analysis and commentary. Amazing guy! Sets "his face like flint" and has a wonderful voice. Ignore his predictions only with national peril!! Thank you!!
David has some tough friends.
CLEVER general, finally...there are so many other clueless general invading the media space with silly comments and critics
Finally an English pundit sees there parallel with Ireland and England
The Crimea of Ireland (the northern part of Ireland) is still occupied using a planted population as an excuse.
Give it up. The English & Irish that moved to Canada or elsewhere built a new world as equals. You scab pickers whingeing about atrocities you don't even remember except that you cultivate hatred & indoctrinate your kids to carry on the tradition.
Incredible interview as always
Kate is great
Gen. Sheriff is a good General.
Wow. Very good and clear interview.
How is that this man can see the need to change course on defence in this country and others and the people in positions who should be able to see this keep their heads buried in the sand. Just what does it take to get this simple (and to many people, evident) message through to senior political leadership? An excellent interview.
You are talking about lyin' politicians who will say and do anything to keep their own arses safe in their constituency seats.
The general is a very intelligent. That's why they made him a general. Thank you, sir.
Have a great day.
Great interview and clear analysis again
Hallelujah, a sane and articulate voice in the madness.
They will win. We r all sending our hopes and Great Strength ❤️ to win this War.
Kate is a great interviewer. John Pienaar also is another that asks short precise questions and a veteran corrospondant that was with BBC for years.
This Goliath stands on clay feets !
The US and Nato countries should send troops and equipment into Ukraine and provide air power and totally annialate the Russian Army in Ukraine.
What an intelligent interview. Great job.
Agree 💯
F-16s on their way.
U believe that?
Exactly!
Would NATO feel better if NATO soldiers were dying instead of Ukrainian? 🇨🇦💕🇺🇦
He looks and sounds like an iconic western general. Great respect to him!
why is his head shaking all the time? if such are the general in the west then russia has nothing to worry about. he is either clueless or a terrible liar.
He speaks the truth they send more weapons
I agree ☝️. I’ve been saying this for months. I’m embarrassed for my country 🫤. 🇺🇸🤝🇺🇦🙏✌️
Mr. Shirreff is one of the best. I'm so glad Bob Marley's assassination attempt was a failure.
Very good interview
I hope Russia falls apart into multiple countries
Well said
Russian bots awakening.
3 minutes for the 1st attempt at character assassination of the presenter’s, 10 mins for a false narrative, 12 for a whataboutism, 14 for a veiled nuclear threat…..
@@robertpatrick3350Nice scenario, let's just follow it.
The defense industry monopolies must be disassembled. They must. This is existential. The insane grift must stop.
100% that man!
My response to Sir Richard's advice: the Mandalorian saying "This is the way!" 😊
Russia couldn’t conquer Afghanistan. They have no chance of winning in Ukraine. For the same reasons.
Major General Richard Shirreff is straight talking and I hope as he’s says people are listening.. a lot of lives could have been saved if they gave the Ukraines the equipment they needed on day one.. the Russians have been and are being able to dig in and prolong a work that could of ended by now
Complete drivel, anyway should we not be discussing the Ukraines abysmal and humiliating attempt at a counter offensive?.
a brilliant review! 👏👏👏
YES, Too little Too late, So sad!
Sad to hear of corruption during this war , they need to give really long sentences to the criminals ( they will be useless at the front , the honest troops that they put more at risk will very likely execute them )
David didn’t get any weapons from allies or brothers,he just used what he had….😊
Yeah right. 😅
