The Cure - 5 Basslines For 5 Great Songs (With TABS)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 сер 2020
- Hi! Welcome to a new video! This time I am trying to pay some homage to a band I never covered in my channel until today in the channel: The Cure. Lately I was randomly listening to some of their stuff and figured out it would be nice to put together the basslines of some of their most renowned tracks.
Not listed in any particular order, the tracks I chose were: "Lullaby" and "Lovesong" (from their "Disintegration" album from 1989); "Why Can´t I Be You" and "Just Like Heaven" (from their "Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me" 1987 album) and "Boys Don´t Cry" (originally released as a single)
Considering many of you have shown interest in having tabs included for the bass guitar cover videos, I also took the time to add them in the lower part of the screen.
As always, dont´forget to subscribe and click on the bell to get notifications if you dig these vids. Feel free to tell me your thoughts about this music/video in the comments section and leave a like/share, it all helps me to continue doing this.
Thanks a lot for watching and see you on the next video with more music!
#TheCure #Bass
*2ND EDIT 29/08/2023: If you hear a blank silence in the section which should belong to "Just Like Heaven" that is sadly dude to the decision of BLOCKING this video by their copyright owners / record label, even if this particular video is not monetized, I didn´t earn a cent out of it and it´s painfully obvious that here is being used with musical educational purposes. But that is how things work, keeping that little segment silent is the easiest way to make this video still available and not be taken down by UA-cam, so at least you have the rest of the basslines included in the video. Sorry for the inconvenience but there is not much I can do about it for now.*
1ST EDIT: Since a lot of guys asked for more tunes, being "Fascination Street" the most requested, I did a specific video playing that one: ua-cam.com/video/H-1tM4-ueck/v-deo.html
More of these bass tabbed videos coming in the future! So subscribe to catch up with them. Thanks for watching and have fun playing!
Can u pls do " Baby Screams".? Thk U
Legends say if you play 3 Cure songs in the mirror on bass guitar Simon Gallup appears and gives you a BOSS Chorus pedal.
Lol, that´s a good one. I should try though, since I actually don´t own one today and it could come handy. Or at least it seems more useful than, let´s say summoning Robert just to get some of his make up products.
@@GabrielNardinMusic They're great for that late eighties early nineties tone, new wave, metal... it's super versatile!
@@scottysunday Yes, being serious now... I use the effect with soft simulation if I play with the PC or a multi effect processor if I am on my amp, just never had the chance to own one the classic BOSS analog ones.
Lol
I’m cackling at this 💀
The cure is the biggest reason why I've always wanted to become a bassist. I'm so excited to get mine shortly when I can afford it.
Congratulations on the decision to pick an instrument up then, I hope you have fun in your musical trip. Feel free to save some of my vids when you have it :) Greetings!
@@GabrielNardinMusic thank you! I will 😊

OMG the lovesong bass is going straight into my heart
Right On!
You did a really good job pointing out that these songs are actually "made" by their brilliant basslines.
Thanks for watching! I made a couple more videos based off thes The Cure basslines. Greetings!
This guy's pretty cool. Looks like he's having fun, too
Thanks dude! Fun is what it´s all about when it comes to playing/making music and upload it here. Greetings!
This video makes me want to learn to play bass
Then my advice is go ahead with it! It´s fun and will probably get you more satisfaction than frustrations :) Thanks for watching!

It rounds up the bass tone :)
CRT ;)
This video introduced me to the cure, it's now one of my favorite bands
Thanks man
That is so nice to hear! I´m happy for your discovery then. Greetings!
Great music, great to see someone having fun playing along. Cure has great bass lines, but they blend in so wonderfully with every other instrument. Had Standing on a beach and the unavailable b. sides on cassette in my car forever back in the 80s
Nice! By the time I could afford to get a car, cassettes were already far gone to be played while driving. But, since I´m not THAT young, I do remember the stuff I also listened in that format when I was still a teen; and I´m not gonna lie, I have similar nostalgic feelings about them :) Thanks for watching!
@@GabrielNardinMusic I mention that cassette in particular because it was basically 2 very cool, trippy albums. Wet summer in Australia, leaky diy sunroof. Happy the man with the face that smiles. That could be you, you were having heaps of fun playing.
Simon Gallup is an amazing bassist
Damn right!
the face you make when you release chords or do something involving tension is great. I love silly musician faces, I stick my tongue out during drum fills. awesome stuff
Long live "music faces"!
your expressions while playing are everything !!! i can’t wait to learn some from this video, i love the cure :)

Hey, that was great. Would sure love to see more. Simon Gallup's basslines always stand out in the Cure's songs. Such a great bass player. Thank you!
Exactly. Those basslines are very important for the overall sound of the band. If you want you can watch more of these tabbed bass videos already uploaded in my channel and maybe suscribe too, I will surely keep uploading more in the future. Greetings!

@@GabrielNardinMusic oh .. i have a question for you ..
What's your favorite song of the Cure 🥰
@@fanmusik37 Probably Lovesong since it was the first one I remember listening from them, and it got me into hearing more of the band.
@@GabrielNardinMusic oh i love this song to 😍
.. did you love JOY DIVISION 🥰😍?
@@fanmusik37 Joy Division is one of those bands that I still have to listen more in depth. I actually can recognize a couple of their tunes and pretty much liked what I heard so far, but I´m not entirely familiar with their whole discography.
In "Lullaby" I'm like, mostly sure its a chromatic walk between B and C#. But super helpful thanks!

Glad you liked the video! Though I would tend to think that the queen of england should have enough money to buy a bass. Tell henry viii to stop being such a cheap rat and buy you one :)
@@GabrielNardinMusic LMAO
My fave bass lines from the cure are Love Cats, Close to me, A Forest, Lovesong, and Fascination street
Thank you very much! The bass on Other Voices is epic.
I might consider it for possible Part 2 of this format, since many guys are recommending other tracks to cover. Thanks for watching!
The faith album era basslines are killer. If people can get past the darkness and sadness of the music, the baselines really, really pop. I especially like the old live performances.
@@krisius1 Yeah, I dig some of the old stuff as well. I just went for some of their most well known tunes but I do like that album.

Thanks Michel! I have more The Cure tabbed covers in my channel in case you are in for a further listen. Greetings!
Quick question - aren't the Cure's baselines more often picked? Does that actually make a noticeable difference to the sound? (I'm very new to Bass playing, but the couple of Cure songs I have learnt were taught to me as picked, not plucked)
Well, I would say there is no short answer like "Yes" or "No" to that question. To begin with, Simon Gallup does uses a pick mostly to play these tunes, but that doesn´t mean it´s technically wrong to use the fingers to play them. In terms of sound difference, the pick typically provides a brighter sound, more mid/highs presence and a stronger attack. But then again, there are other factors that might get you closer to the same sound such as using new strings, working around the EQ, effect pedals, having a strong plucking attack with the fingers, etc. The only cases I would say it´s absolutely mandatory using a pick (or fingers for that matters) are those where you need to apply techniques only possible with one of the two forms of playing. For example, if you need a permanent full chord power strumming (Think of Californian 90s Punk Rock style) you definitely need a pick because that sound is nearly impossible to get with a bare hand. Or on the other hand, if you need to do slap in funk, you need to get rid of the pick because the thumb has to be free to slap and doing that while holding a pick is impossible too. The stuff that falls in between is mostly manageable according the feeling of the song, the proper techinique of the player, the gear, etc.
I would play them with a pick. A lot of finger bassists like to show off and will refuse to play with a pick even if it sounds wrong.
Great, tons more, Primary, Other voices, A Forest, M, etc
Hi there! Thanks for checking out. I actually did more tabed bass covers after this video based on the suggestions I got from followers/spectators. For example, I have covered "A Forest" (one of the tunes you mentioned) here: ua-cam.com/video/zIFCXvyxmVw/v-deo.html

Hola Juan!

Homesick has a sick bassline
I think I never learned that one but I might give it a try, thanks for the recommendation as well.
what types of programs do you use to run your bass through your computer. my pc is good and i have the same interface
Just for recording purposes here I am using Audacity. It´s probably the simplest and oldest DAW that exists and works fine in almost any regular PC you can find in 2021. Nothing really fancy. I also have Guitar Rig, some analog pedals and a solid state amp if I need to add effects or some extra tone shaping, but most of the times I just record straight forward like this.
