There definitely is a hard contrast between Curry and Skarsgards Pennywise. Both have that very bizarre ability to make you drop your guard(as we saw with Georgie) but in different ways. Skarsgard went for lulling him before making the kill, Currys made small talk almost relying on him to be naive enough for it to work out. Only to end up taking him down the sewer anyway.
What I find very interesting is that Pennywise has clearly informed Bill that one of the group is already dead and he doesn't recall this moment at all when Stan fails to arrive.
"I'm not afraid of you." *Pennywise growls* *Looks away terrified* "I'm not afriad of you." Dude, who are you fooling? You and everyone else were shitting their pants.
This novel deserves a remake: Tim Curry is excellent as usual, but the script is pure hokum, the values are 90's TV, there are ad breaks everywhere, it's barely PG-13 and the acting is weak. Practically everything could be improved. But, as I said, Curry a legend as ever.
I remember when I was a kid and my brothers and I saw it, one night some time afterwards, my brother asked me to move my bed next to his for the night because he couldn't get this scene out of his head.
This performance makes you think he's actually a monster rather than an actor dressed as a clown. The new pennywise makes you think of another horror movie with a guy in a costume. That's why old pennywise is better. Not to mention that the new pennywise's costume looks like a Halloween costume while old pennywise's costume looks like an actual's clown costume.
Smaher Have you seen this movie? Back in 1990 this movie scared the hell out of thousands viewers, making some of them being afraid of clowns. For a 1990's movie is pretty scary and accurate to the book. The 2017's movie is just like any mainstream horror film. Bad, scary and ugly guy/monster in which you can tell since the beginning that's he's bad just from his looks. The old pennywise is twisted and evil whereas the new pennywise is a rabbit inside a creepy's clown costume.
*+TheLegend 27* Are you high? Why are you claiming Pennywise in the 90's was accurate to the book, when you've never fucking read it? This Pennywise is all jokey and goofy. Pennywise in the book was NOT that. He literally wasn't funny. He only told a joke once and when he did, it wasn't actually funny; it was sadistic. I don't give a shit what scared kids back in the 90's. Once you grow up, you realize how easily scared of trash you were. MANY people who've already seen screenings of this movie say this movie is accurate to the book. In the book, Pennywise was fucked up. He ate babies, played with decapitated heads, devoured and tortured one of the bullies with leeches and over all did lots of fucked up shit. Even when Georgie first met him, he was scared, got used to him, but died anyway. Have you seen the leaked 4 minute footage of the storm drain scene with Georgie for the new movie? If you did, you'd see how much 2017 Pennywise completely SHITS on 90's cheesy ass Pennywise. Face it. This Pennywise is a joke. Actually watch the whole thing again and tell me you can take this "Is your refrigerator running?" ass fucker seriously.
Smaher And this shows that you haven't actually seen this movie. 1990's pennywise FUCKED the minds of the kids from the losers team. In the 2017's version of IT, there are just scared from the evil clown. Also, what got you thinking that I was scared of that film? I just enjoyed it, I enjoyed the fact that pennywise fucked up these childrens' mind which wasn't common back in the '90s. Why so salty about who's scarier? You haven't seen the 2017's movie, so you know nothing about the new pennywise. I've seen plenty of trailers which are WAY different from the actual movie.
The clown really doesn't matter, what Pennywise actually is, is more than a clown Pennywise is your greatest fear, it's the thing you're sure that sleeps under the sheet, it's the monster that your parents don't see. Also, at least it seems like Pennywise will actually try to kill the losers, not come, say hi, make a joke and then go away
I've always found this scene to be very surreal and alien. Remember, it's an interdimensional entity portraying itself like a clown to prey on children - and it's casually digging a grave and resorting to petty insults (in an oddly amusing way) just to troll an old acquaintance like a Lovecraftian jokester. I don't know whether to laugh, be creeped out, or simply revel in how bizarre the scene is. You can say what you want and make all the comparisons you want, but if you mention "IT" to me, Tim Curry's version will always be the first that springs to my mind. You should hate this child-killing-alien-clown-thing, but there he is, popping up in the damnedest of places for a quick but not-too-friendly chat about the good ole days like an unwanted visitor or distant relative who thinks it's fun to mock your stutter before he tries to chew your face off.
