You should be very proud of your grandfather for owning this land and passing it down to his descendants. For those who are not familiar with Gambian heritage and land, I could tell by the sheer size that this is an ancestral home that has been in her family for generations - that was being she even mention her grandfather. This size of land do not or rarely exist any more in the Gambia unless you come from one of the old land owning families. The land on its own, without any building on it would now cost millions of Gambian Dalasis (at least hundreds of thousands of £s or $s). You should be very proud of your granddad for acquring this huge land when he did and passing it on to his descendants. I can see that the family is also taking care of it and building new projects to increase value and pass it on to the next generation. Although I have bought numerous homes in Gambia from my own hardwork, the lands and properties I have inherited that has been in my family for generations hold a special place in my heart - and I treat them differently to the ones I've actually bought in recent years with my own hard earned cash. It is quite difficult to explain but maybe somebody else feels the same. I'm always super proud of my ancestors that have acquired a land (despite their struggles - especially at that time), build it, and pass it to their descendants. I'm sure you too are super proud of your granddad. These kinds of African stories always warms my hearth. Preserve the memories and look after it for the next generation.
Hey fam! Wow, thank you so much for your comment. And I agree with the things you mentioned, Thank God my granddad bought this land and passed it on because just like you said - land this size it not even for sale in the urban areas anymore. Often times it is land that people inherit from previous generations. Unless it's a place where no one has settled yet. It's more like people taking a huge plot of land they own and dividing it into smaller ones and then sell it off. I am glad you have a special love and care for the land that you have inherit from your family members, I think that is the right attitude. Owning a piece of land in the motherland is more important than some may think in my opinion.
@@africandiaries Sis I hope you buy your own land and slowly build for your future kids... kids and continue the tradition. P.s. I hope God allows me to do this for my kids. Take care sis. 🙏🏾
