- Korn co-founder James Shaffer got real with us Wednesday about addiction, the difficulty of staying sober on the road, and the tragedy that befell Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins.
We got James at LAX and asked about temptations when a band is touring, and he says it's a constant problem. James, who has been sober for a dozen years, says he still feels the pull of addiction when others around him want to party with drugs and booze.
He says rock stars always have folks offering stuff, and that makes sobriety difficult.

I’m a touring drummer. Not on any kind of level like Korn. But I’m on the road playing a lot of theaters and clubs. People just hand you drugs all the time. Every town. I don’t partake, but I’ve seen it take down a LOT of people. It’s 22 hours of mind numbing boredom and two hours of fun.

Wow that was awesome of him to take the time and say all that. 12 years clean that is a blessing God Bless Him. Everything he said is 100% right. I know cause I'm in recovery also and when your on top everyone wants to hang and party but when your strung out, no one won't even give you a cigarette. It's horrible cause they'll get you high but when your hooked it's all on you. He has alot of knowledge and it's wonderful he is sharing it and giving it away. I hope this video helps someone!!! Any band with these issues should have replacement musicians able to step in while the original member goes n gets some help.. that way the tour goes on.. all band n employees get paid and hopefully the musicians life is saved!
It must be awkward trying to go to the Airport and some jerk is just talking to you about drugs because he thinks all musicians wanna talk about drugs

At my job as a Chef at Crackr Berral I smell each food item before giving it to a waitres. I sniff as hard as possible so I can smell your food before you eat it. Sometimes my nose touches your food if I get to close. You are eating food that has been sniffed by me hard
