Joel Cameron So true, each series has a definite stand out quality... I'm enjoying 1 right now.
It is the best in my opinion. Most will vote season 2 as its longer and has monkey news and rock busters but this first one contains so many genuine and funny moments as they start to discover Karl and his stories. Just amazing.
I dunno man, now I'm finding the hostility and brevity of season 3 REALLY appealing right now. I think it's cyclical.

I basically listened to the later seasons to death cuz of the heavier Karl presence. When I finally dug back into season 1 I found episodes I'd only heard like 3 times! Almost new 😺

Always makes me laugh in the first series, when Karl opens his mouth and Ricky does a little breathy laugh, knowing everything Karl says is going to be gold
I'm making my foreign wife listen to these and watch an idiot abroad. Very proudly doing my part to share our weird culture and humour. She loves it

I listen to these programs every day in work and wish I was listening to them for the first time when they first came out.
I used to listen to them in my old retail job until I was told to stop because I couldn't play licensed music on a business premises

I'll sometimes listen to the animated show to change it up. it's all recycled material, but the edit is so different it's refreshing.

Everyone knows bees (and insects in general) don't have actual hair. Gervais was, obviously, right and Steve's reaction was, obviously, sarcastic. Karl didn't "do" Gervais, at all, whatsoever. Karl just doesn't have the intellect to understand what Gervais was saying so Gervais was forced to dumb it down and then stumbled for words. Have a happy and a healthy.

They're not that boring
This particular show gave rise in a way to three of the show's most important features! Karl's head, old Chinese people and identifying people at restaurants by their oddities!!
If I have a bad day, or feel anxious going to bed, these are like a big comforting hug. Something about listening (repeatedly!) makes me feel all is ok in the world.

This is probably the only show (and I mean every bit of it, from Season 1 XFm to the last actual podcasts/audiobooks) where anyone could consider a particular season the best and be correct. They're all so good and for different reasons.

I've listened to these so many times, and I only just got Steve's 'there was a what in the hall?' line when talking about Karl's lesbian aunt who had a bike in the hall. I can't believe I never noticed what he meant before.
I hate to admit I still don't get it - care to explain ? (Am I going to feel stupid here?)
Gary PR Substitute the word 'bike' for a word which rhymes with it and refers to a lesbian. I'm pretty sure Steve was going for that anyway.

During one of Karl's movie ideas he mispronouncing Clive Owen's name, Clive Warren, and Steve teases him by suggesting other actors and mispronouncing their names. Ends on Morgan Fruman and Ricky kind of embarrassed for Steve corrects him. Listened to the bit a dozen times before getting Steve's joke. I just thought he was a dolt that didn't know the names of American actors
Christophee1987 i find that steve has so many little jokes hidden in these shows, and i've grown to enjoy his performance more and more each time i go around on the carousel.

The kind of guy you’d ask directions and if he didn’t know he’d still reply “you take the 2nd exit on the round about, go past the tramp with one shoe, take a right then a left at the unseemly open electrical box and straight on to where that rainbow ends” 1 hour later your still looking for the roundabout🤷🏾♂️

The thing that Karl doesn't understand is that the fables are an allegory to human society. He actually thinks they're just talking about the animal kingdom having a chat amongst themselves.
Karl was incapable of understanding anything that wasn't literal. He simply doesn't comprehend metaphor or simile.

But later on in the series (or podcasts), Ricky tells it to Karl like it was from his own arsenal. Anyone know what episode that is? Just picked up on this.

My second or third time listening to these and only just noticed the bear and the scorpion fable they mention in this episode. Up until now I had thought Ricky was the first to bring that up later on in the series with the frog and scorpion fable.
I love how in Karl's story at about 27:00, he could have just taken his shoes off and thrown them across the mini lake, and jumped across himself lol
