Do you know if it is fairly easy to replace the scissor mechanism regular for the window? Mine cracked on the scissor arm and window doesn't go up all the way now.
To me, the hardest part is getting my hands on there without getting cut up. It's not hard especially if you have the donor right there. Pretty much everything comes apart and out one piece at a time.
White lithium grease is a better choice for door hardware, heavy wheel bearing grease will stink when heated up i and cause the interior to stink like a refinery.
I was messing with the bolts in the middle and now my window goes from left to right and I can move it with my hand up and down it’s half way down I can’t move it up or down cause it sounds like it’s gonna scatter cause the glass starts going side ways :( I messed up I guess it’s off track how do I fix it :(
That's a much more difficult thing to describe over the internet. Best option is to grab a factory service manual, it describes where all the adjustments are at and how to do it.
@@SnowFamilyRacing thanks for the reply what a headache I got myself into!! I tried to lower the window so I could get to the screws to replace my window sweeps now I got a bigger problem ! ;(
@@SnowFamilyRacing do you think I’m better off taking the window off completely ? And raising the track up all the way and re install the glass do you think that could fix it self?
There's the guide that I did here. There's the guide track that it rides in, that's usually bolted in. The regulator and motor are both bolted or riveted in depending on if it's been done before or the year of the car.
Gotta love the little hidden gems that you left yourself sometime ago. Then the memories that come back with that as well.
I know there's a few hidden in the wiring too... they're working so I don't need to address them yet!

Does anyone know the thread pitch on the roller the m6 is to small and the m7 is to big
I don't off the top of my head. That would put it somewhere around the 1/4" range.

So far, it hasn't been an issue with smell. Especially with how little is actually used on the tracks and moving parts.
What’s the Dorman part number of the new one that you didn’t put on?
I have no idea... I'm sorry I don't have the package anymore.
Can I ask where you bought the replacement part? Is there a part number?
Rockauto.com. They seem to have all the right parts (when I don't modify it from what's supposed to be there). I don't have the part number handy.
Rockauto.com Dorman 74407 would be the right one for the El Camino and likely the Malibu.
Thanks. It’s an 81 Caballero. GBOdy like yours. This little piece is gonna be the death of me.
You'll get it. It's not the worst thing I've ever worked on.

I totally understand and the thought of broken glass pushes the stress factor up a bunch!
Here's a link to a factory manual on Amazon, I picked '82 since mine is an '82 but they have them for all the years. amzn.to/3CxSYw1 #affiliate

I need to know how to replace a window guide not a regulator !

I know about that, I'm talking about the clip that attaches to the window in the upper right corner of the glass that has a hole in it.
Not much help on that one, I've never needed to mess with it.
