It's unbelievable that Subaru haven't taken care of the issue since 2022 !!! Moreover, Toyota (a partial owner of Subaru) did nothing as well.

They have, they have test muels with G16's in them. I'd say that there is a contract to run and as soona s its done these will drop.

So its safe to say that Subaru/Toyota dont give a shit, but people are still buying them despite the fact. We are also to blame since we buy them. But regular people arent going to open them up and check them. Only a hand ful of enthusiast.

But RTV in the FA24 pickup has been proven not to affect the oil pressure, so why should we keep worrying about that?

    • @CMAutohaus

Oil caviation. RTV stuck in internal oil passages.

Lol, "proven" in order to avoid costly recalls, which end up with the tech "taking it in the shorts"....

@@JamesSmith-xs7srProven by logging the oil pressure before cleaning the pickup and after cleaning the pickup (that indeed had lots of RTV inside).

Nobody wants globs of RTV plugging up their oil galleys, but if that ever happens I'd point out that your engine is highly likely going to grenade itself while still under powertrain warranty. 900BRZ's extensive testing shows that the RTV issue almost certainly has nothing to do with the highly publicized engine failures, which were instead caused by sticky tires + skilled drivers + hard right turns + high RPM + hot oil + a boxer engine + aftermarket modifications = not enough oil being returned to the sump = pickup running dry = engine go boom.
The solution is to overfill for track use by up to 1 liter and maybe consider a higher gear exiting right handers to keep RPMs lower. For very fast setups, you'll need to run an Accusump for track use. Verus Engineering is currently working on a pan/baffle solution that should mitigate the issue. The Killer B baffle doesn't work unfortunately.
I don't argue with the fact that anything in the oil pan other than oil is generally bad, and I don't argue that Toyota/Subaru really screwed up in the marketing department, but frankly a few bits of RTV in the pickup aren't sufficient to actually cause oil pressure loss on track. That is beyond dispute at this point, and the original assumption that RTV was the root cause is *false*.
I love the service that you're providing and I wish you were my mechanic because you care about what you do and it shows (thank you), but at the same time can we please not throw FUD around if it's been debunked? You're going to cause non-engineer types to freak out. Oil pressure is something that can be actually measured with actual hard data (as opposed to rumor, supposition, and my grandfather's shade-tree wisdom). Most people don't even track their cars, and for those people the RTV issue simply isn't worth freaking out about. If you're taking it to a track, then by all means proceed, but then cleaning out the pickup alone is (maybe?) necessary but definitely not sufficient to keep that engine safe anyhow!
Also worth noting that a lot of the blown engines were running a Jackson Racing oil cooler. It seems these can actually cause loss of oil pressure in some cases and that the stock heat exchanger needs to be deleted if using one. Also worth noting that the engine is simply a finicky Subaru engine that is extremely sensitive to being run low on oil, and that it also burns more oil due to inherently higher crank pressures in the boxer design. I would guess that at least some of these failures happened due to the oil being run low, or due to 0w20 street oil being run on a track. So to be sure, these engines DO have oiling issues, but RTV in the pickup seems to be mostly a distraction.

I pickup a 2024 BRZ this week. Has any RTV bits clogged any bearings and caused failures? Or is the only risk the pickup tube clogging?
