I think the baffle is a great add for track use
I'm actually kind of baffled it didn't come that way from the factory (I'm joking).
I agree Minibike Madness 👍🏽
@@JasonYergin lmao😂
@@DaniiVision I know... I get it... that was an INCREDIBLY stupid pun, but I just couldn't resist. 😄
Wait so does the baffle completely eliminate the RTV issue or do you still have to apply the silicon between the baffle and oil pan?
On top of that. Question. So if you clean the RTV once, would it have to be something you do constantly like every 50k miles or something or would cleaning it once be enough ?
Im wondering this too!!
I bet so unless a different type of RTV is used…
No, the issue is the factory used too much, not that they used any at all. Nothing wrong with RTV gasket, it's universally used in many applications. All the RTV fears are just overblown, FUD, internet armchair nonsense. You have a big screen in the pickup tube and an oil filter after that. No RTV is getting back into your engine. 99 BRZ's track testing basically debunks the RTV myth, the issue is that these boxer engines can get oil starved during sharp corners at high RPMs because the pickup can run dry. Solution is to overfill it. Varus Engineering is working on a large-capacity pan. The Greddy baffle in this car does absolutely nothing to stop the fact that oil doesn't run back into the pan fast enough to prevent the pickup from sucking air during hard right turns.
Wasn't sure if you knew this but they make a magnet that slips over the battery for your snapon 3/8s impact(that small gun). The magnet is strong enough to hold it even upside down. Really handy when using it. I used that gun as a tech for a good 2 years but the batteries started to shit out so I upgraded to a milwaukee 3/8s stubby. Best purchase of my life
KINGKONG I didn’t know thanks for the tip.
Good thing you checked and cleaned out! What month/yr was your GR86 manufactured?
Fujibo, November 2021
@@DaniiVision copy that mang! Mine is May 2022, so I am curious what I will find 😅 I will def report my findings
@@DaniiVision Where do you find that out?

Why don't someone make a gasket for the oil pan?
I was told by a Mechanic friend that, unfortunately, the RTV issue is not just limited to the Oil Pan. Apparently the GR86/BRZ and WRX and other potential Subaru models used RTV exclusively. This includes the oil pan, Head Gaskets and possibly even the Split-Block area where typically, you should see a gasket but they used RTV instead. How much of this is true, I am not certain. The unfortunate thing is, I like these cars and for a car manufacturer to cut costs for the sake of saving money, is a shame. I truly hope they address this soon for everyone's sake.
I hope you don't have any more issues, Danii!
You can’t use RTV as a head gasket. Too much pressure.
This is unbelievably sloppy for Toyota/Subaru. In any case, if you use a good-quality RTV that does not break apart, you'll be fine. It seems like the factory RTV was very low quality. American manufacturers such as Motorcraft and Mopar make the best RTV in my experience. Honda Bond is also a great RTV, but not quite as good as the Mopar and Motorcraft stuff I have used. I mostly use Mopar and once it cures, it is elastic and doesn't break unless you pull very hard on it.
Now the question is if your engine for some reason failed and they could tell you dropped the oil pan wouldnt that deny your warranty?
Any chance the 2023 model doesn’t have this issue? For us less mechanically inclined I imagined this a expensive yearly maintenance cost?
I'd imagine they are the same but I'm not sure! Mines a 23' also
Thanks for dropping the pan. Will be nice to see how much more gets in there in another 20k.
@@jaxgarage6302 have you checked yet?
I ordered a 2023 ignition red BRZ limited (6 speed manual) that’s coming next month January. I would hope not but who really knows.
@@Blballerboy I haven’t I plan on it after I get out of storage though
Thanks for your review and information 👍
Welcome Itay!
The wrx 22 have this issue too. Big fk up by Subaru
Great video man!
Thanks Albert!!
You should pull it back off to see if it happenes every time. Might be unavoidable without an actual gasket.
Good work. Keep it up
Thanks for the feedback Thomas!
Will we experience this type of RTV issue if we’re just going to daily this car? I imagine most people experience this issue after tracking this car.
I heard it could be possible
So no matter how you drive it, RTV is going to break off and get sucked up?
Looks like he chipped the aluminum block surface when he used the flat head. So it’s not that big of a deal if you chip it I guess?
so how much RTV did YOU use?
Have you noticed a difference in oil pressure loss or gain since install?
What kind of brush tip did you use? I used nylon on mine.
Nice, but video wouldve been great if you showed how you applied RTV to pan.
Like icing on a cake.
Great video
Thanks Barb!
I'm guessing doing this would void warranty? lol
Jax, maybe it does, doesn’t really matter to me as I will be beyond warranty period in a few months anyways.
So you didn't reapply silicon on the oil pan ?
Yousef, we did just didn’t film it.
Hahaahah, I was about to just ask this same question.
RTV myth is way overblown. You have a pickup screen and an oil filter after that. Even with some RTV in the pickup you aren't going to starve the engine of oil. The oiling issues of the FA24 are related to the routing of the oil galleys and the inherent issues of flat boxer engines. Problem is that high-G right turns at high RPM can starve the engine of oil pressure because the oil doesn't return to the pan fast enough to prevent the pickup from sucking air. The baffle you installed here does nothing to help with the root cause of the oiling issues. The only way to fix that is to overfill the engine slightly by up to an entire liter, run an Accusump, or maybe the high-capacity oil pan from Verus Engineering (which is still in development).
You're welcome.
What is the factory warranty for the 86? 5yr 60k miles? 3yr 36k miles?
3yr/36k I believe…gonna hit 36k on the drive home from work today 🥲
those front control arms are only a single layer of sheet metal??? WTF!?
New dodge trucks are plastic… lol I’m sure these will be fine
If you treat cleaning the oil pan as maintenance and clean it out every 10k miles, is RTV still a significant issue?
Car Enthusiast, every 10k seems extreme to me just my opinion though. I will likely check it again when I get to 60k miles maybe even 75k miles. I think doing it once and re-sealing the pan with the proper amount of silicone will reduce the chances of having any in the pickup tube in the future.
Saw in another video by an ex-Subaru mechanic, every 10-15k miles is good enough.
why you do yourself ?
should be covered by warrenty, not ?
Simple, I am a content creator and felt confident to do the job myself with the help of my friends @ososikmedia this is not a recall yet but it should be.
it's not covered unless something catastrophic happened
do you know if they did anything to fix this on the 2023?
nope
Hmmmn, have any BRZ/86 owners removed the pan and seen nothing? Answer he if so please.
Kuladeeluxe, I think any 86/BRZ built in 2021 or 2022 will have this issue. Let’s see how the 2023 build dates pan out.
thanks for the video. what's the torque specs for the oil pan bolts?
They solved that issue on the 23
There are videos of the 23 model with the same issue.
What’s the torque spec on the oil pan bolts?
57in lbs
was this ur first time dropping your oil pan?
Yup first time.
@@DaniiVision oh wow, honestly that doesn’t seem too bad for ur car having 31k miles. i thought u had dropped it acouple of times but it still had that much in it which would have worried me alot lol
Imagine paying 40k for a lemon. What a shit show 🤦🏼♂️
Any advice on how to make sure you don't do the same thing Subaru did? It would be an awful place to have an oil leak- right onto the exhaust manifold. Might be part of the reason they overdid the sealant.
