    Very clearly presented use of the buttonhole attachment for the Featherweight. Yours is the best presentation I’ve ever heard. It’s a shame how instructions on newer machines of today rarely have clear instructions like you just provided. I’ll want to listen and watch as many of your video demonstrations to learn how to properly use the presser feet on my vintage Singer machines. Thank you.

    So glad I watched this, I had no idea the Featherweight could do button holes, because it’s straight stitch. My “new” featherweight goes into the shop tomorrow to get serviced and I’m sooo looking forward to getting to use it.

    This attachment makes the best buttonholes! I used it on my moms sewing machine when I was growing up. I bought my own machine in the ‘70s and a computerized machine in 2015. Neither makes buttonholes as good as this attachment. I will be pulling out my featherweight and start using to make buttonholes

    Thank you for this! I found a buttonholer at a thrift store for $8. The only parts it didn't have were the plate cover and the tiniest cam. I found the plate on ebay and it works on my 1951 featherweight This also works on my mid century Japanese made Nustich. It's much better than a modern machine's buttonholer that I used to have. I also got to try out my buttonhole chisel. Thank you for the walk though

    Thanks so much for making this video, it was very helpful! I am struggling to keep the loose threads inside of the stitching on the first pass as the fabric moves away from me, even though I'm following your motions in the video. I've had to crank by hand and move the thread between every single and zag. 😕 Any helpful hints?

    I have a 1948 singer machine, which I just love and would never part with it. I have the tan colored buttonhole attachment and have always been intimidated by it. My buttonholes always seemed to be different. I have not used that attachment for at least 20 years. My son wanted me to make a shirt and I thought "Oh man," that requires buttonholes! I also have a Kenmore ultra stitch 12 and thought I'll learn how to use that buttonhole attachment it maybe easier. I was looking on UA-cam for a video explaining how to use the attachment but could not find one.
    My thoughts are, why use the the Kenmore for buttonholes. when I have the cadillac of buttonhole makers right in my sewing box!!
    This is a total game changer!!
    Thank you

    Since that day I ordered one of those button holder s the older kind that works off of leverage it does not use cans it uses levers on the right side for bight and length. And on the back of it it's got a another adjustment those things are really cool the rest of it looks almost the same but it's totally different attachment it does the same job though..

    Thanks for sharing the video! I just acquired a 160506 button holer and I find that sometimes it will just stay in one place and won't continue. If I click the adjusting knob and then continue that will help it to move again. I notice that when it just stays in one place, I don't hear a clicking sound that it should make when it advances even though the fork arm is going up and down. Do you know what causes this problem? Thanks in advance, Gary

      I think she mentioned 99's as well at the beginning? Have a good look at the shape/height of the shank on some other videos (she definitely mentioned 201 as I have one of those) so if yours is the same shape shank with a side screw to fasten the presser foot on it should be right?

    Thanks for the tutorial - just a coupe of questions.
    What is the recommended setting for the number of stitches per inch? What effect would this have on the buttonhole?
    Also, my 1948 Buttonholer is missing the screw to attach it to the machine. Is there a source where I could purchase a replica or an original screw?
    Your advice would be appreciated. Thanks again!

    • @jesshothersall
      @jesshothersall 3 роки тому

      @@mayloomis88 You can get feed dog covers for different machines. Her buttonholer was made in 1947 so her plate fits from then on. You can find older dog covers for older machines that would fit yours on places like ebay though. It's only to stop the feed dogs moving the fabric, so it doesn't have to match the button holer
