The sound of the buttonholer clacking away brought back memories. My mom bought a 301 1951 (i was born in 1949, so I am three years older than the machine. And I still have it. She sewed for customers and her daughters. I loved the clothes she made for me. They were unique. nobody had clothes like them. She sewed formals and crinolines. When she had a real long seam to sew, she would get the motor going fast and loud. The table would vibrate and it sounded like a volley of machine gun fire. Thanks for the memory.
Omg this video is a life-saver! I have the same button-holer and kit and a 1951 anniversary edition Singer (which looks a lot like your machine, but in a cabinet). This will help me to repair my vintage clothing and save me so much time and money, THANK YOU!!
I know this video is old. I just want to thank you so very much. You are awesome! I love that you stayed on topic, were just direct and straight to the point. You saved me from a lot of frustration! I appreciate that.
Your right on point, on topic, no unnecessary banter, clear and concise, your teaching is the best I’ve seen on vintage machines, you don’t stutter or babble About nonsense. Please make more, it is very helpful. Clear videos, beautiful view and angle.
OMG thank you thank you thank you. I did not know that these attachments existed. I don’t think anyone in my family did either. My mum has a classic 50s singer and my grandmother had a 1930s one. Both of them would still try and sew buttonholes by Hand until I got my machine which has a buttonhole foot, but NOT automatic like this little piece of genius. I’ve never been so excited by a video before!
❤ I have had my great grandmother's vintage sewing machine for 5 years but just started working with it. Realized it is a 1898 Singer. But it had 2 of these buttonholers in the cabinet drawers and I didn't know what they were. So thank you for your video. I will visit again when I get ready to use them.
Wow...i have 2 peaces of that and i've never seen how to use this before, i inherite from my grand mother i was looking for "how to use old little singer machine" and i never found something until to see You...thank you very much my dear honey...
I wanted to thank you so much for this excellent demonstration! I purchased a Singer buttonholer at an estate sale and wanted to use it on my 1948 Singer. This one is exactly like my grandmother had but I had no idea how to go about using it. Following your easy to use instructions I was able to attach and make a buttonhole quite easily. Bless you and thank you for this.
Thank you VERY much - now I can use my moms vintage Singer to make button holes. You are such a good clear concise instructor that takes "time" and doesn't rush through the instructions. Appreciate that very much.
Good video! I have two of these button hole attachments for my Singers. From what I can figure it should work on my treadle machines also not just electric drive ones.
My buttonholer stops every few stitches any idea how to fix that? And my sewing machine needle continues in the same spot giving it an occasional awkward bump
I have the 1960 model which is essentially the same. Any tips on how to make the buttonholes straight mIne always look crooked. I guess that's why I haven't made buttonholes in more than 20 years!
Hmm, are they consistently crooked? If you do one on a test fabric and check the angle, maybe you can account for that angle in your placement? Good luck! 💜✨
I bought this device but it doesn't fit my machine, which is a Baby Lock (Janome). The shaft of my machine is too high. I've tried to install it on my old domestic (which no longer makes buttonholes), but the slot in the plate doesn't match the location of my needle, and the needle hits the metal. But NOTHING stops me! I widened the slot for the needle with my little grinder, sanded and polished, and tadam! HAHA!
Sorry, I'm not familiar with that machine. But if accepts low shank attachments and has the screw hole on the base of the machine for the cover plate, it might be able to work.
With the Singer 201 you can lower the feed dogs so you don't need to use the cover plate at all! There is a knob underneath the bed of the machine to do this.
You can find a zig zagger for sale on this site: singer-featherweight.com/products/singer-automatic-zigzagger I've ordered other parts there and they arrived safely and nicely packed. 🙂
I just bought one on an antique mall date, and I'm telling you I've never been so excited to use it, thank you so much for this video.

I love that the receipt was kept. I have a slightly newer 1950's model-same mechanics. This video, was so helpful as a refresher.
Great tutorial and explanation! Direct and clear v.o with excellent camera angles to see what is being explained WHILE showing the process. Yay!

Thanks. I know that my button hole machine will work on the new Antique Machine I just purchased. Never knew how they worked.
I have the same buttonholer. I love it. Grew up using it making many cloths with buttonholes.
Thanks. I found one of these today in some boxes that were thrown out. That's pretty neat

Amazing.
What does it mean when my buttonholer is elevated so much that it doesn’t clamp my fabric?
