@Shane Lee... I was about to say... I have the 3D blu-ray and totes has IMAX framing goodness! And still think the 7.1 track still works well too.
Great video. As per Shane's correction note here, the 3D Blu-ray does have the "IMAX" scenes in their expanded ratio. Irrespective of that (or despite it, depending on your point of view), I'd definitely endorse getting the 3D copy as it's another great example of MCU top quality 3D post-conversion. Fingers crossed that the sequel has similar quality 3D (and shows up Love & Thunder's disappointing 3D as being an aberration rather than the new norm...).
Agree with your thoughts on Love & Thunder 3D. Watched it yesterday and thought it was dire, just like the film.

Hey Bunker, gotta agree with you, this is a damn fine 3D presentation, and yes, it puts Love & Thunder to shame. I was really hoping that the bluray for Thor 4 would be a marked improvement on what I experienced in the theater. Sadly no. High hopes for Antman Quantumania though, that looks to be potentially a magnificent 3D transfer, if they put anywhere near as much work into the Quantum Realm scenes that they did in Antman & the Wasp.
Great review as always. I’m pretty sure though that the Blu Ray 3D version was the IMAX version as well. I will have to check it out again.

It's a shame that in some parts of the world where is literally money to spend, Disney don't dropping 4K, only bluray! Same with a lack of subtitles support on 4k disc's.
The Black Panther 3D version was one of the best 3Ds I have in my large 3D collection. Great movie too. Will be rewatching that tonight and watch the second part in the theaters on Monday. Hopefully, they'll release a 3D Blu-ray for it when it comes out.

So am I the only one that noticed the crushed black levels in certain scenes (mainly the opening challenge scene in the beginning)? I want a 4K replacement sent out for me, which I know will never come. Also have the 3D as well, for when I had my LG OLED55C6 in my main TV room which has now been put up in my bedroom. That looked great, better then the 4K Blu-ray. The Disney+ IAMX Enhanced version looked the best in my opinion out of all of them. I'll have to re-watch this sometime this week. Good re-review as always!
All audio mixes are differen. That's not just about the bitrate but the mix itself is re-worked from the master according the destination platform. All mixes on Blu-Ray/4K are different than the ones on streamers, and even here they are all different than the ones on iTunes. Probably Kaleidescape/Bravia Core have 1:1 copies of Blu-Ray/4K discs but it may very well not be the case (albeit the changes if any would be minimal).
Same goes for the color grading, they are all different. HDR and Dolby Vision too as well.
Of course, all these things start from the same exact master.

I think your channel is the best when it comes to 4k Bluray reviews. I prefer the evidence you provide over the other reviewers who just talk the entire time and provide no visual evidence. I would like to see more re-review of old movies including some of the movies you reviewed 5+ years ago. I even have a spreadsheet of all the movies you reviewed so that it can better my decision on which movies worth owning. Examples would be Batman trilogy or 2007 Transformers.
I was searching in web for this kind of spreadsheet to use. Could you share it, will be helpful.
I agree. I subscribe to a number of very good 4K review sites (although I think that too much time is wasted on the unboxing stuff at times) but for the purely technical A/V aspects, Shane is excellent.

Shane you should get back into reviewing 3D. Disney is still releasing MCU titles in Japan in 3D and Spiderman no way home got an australian 3D release!
It's absolute BS that paying MORE for the 4k blu-ray and yet we get the lower quality audio and no IMAX scenes.
I think like with the criterion Wall E I think Disney is intentionally compromising there 4K discs and I wonder what would happen if say Arrow video would be given the rights to do it?

Hi shane. Can you review BRAHMASTRA (Hulu) in 4k? I just want to hear your thoughts on this cause this is India's very good attempt to make a Hollywood level Vfx rich movie. And RRR(Netlfix) too just for your thoughts on the sound quality. Please It would mean a lot
Now you need to compare all the 4k discs to their Disney+ counterparts to see exactly how many of these movies we are getting screwed on.
Based on the the average highest bitrate you can receive in consumer homes, probably all of them.
I bought the 3D version a few months ago and have to say it's better than the 2D version.

Mostly Marvel movies underwhelm me in sound, it’s really lacking dynamic, base and motion. The picture quality is a mixed bag. I guess the focus is on the story, action and CGI.
When comes to Disney sound effect on Atmos, thumbs down on it, they should make it louder as we pay for 4k disc for best sounding on our home theater

Pretty sure this is the only Marvel physical disc distributed by Disney that has Dolby Vision
For Disney/Marvel it is although Star Wars: The Last Jedi on 4K Blu-ray also has Dolby Vision and that was pretty much it. The rest of the Disney releases on 4K only has HDR 10.
As much as I love this movie. Your review. Kept me from buying the 4K. I stuck with my original Blu-ray.
Shane, have you tried the 4K disc with Auro 3D? It can improve lame Atmos mixes in some cases. I just got a Denon X3800 which does have Auro but I haven't tried it on BP yet.
This movie was well written but has absolutely terrible execution of vfx and action scenes. I'm wondering if Ryan coogler gets better at that in the sequel. Lot of people wanting him to direct Avengers secret wars I hope he doesn't. He's a very talented writer director but struggles when it comes to CGI shots.

All Marvel movies are lame when it comes to the audio mixes. You have to turn the audio up to damn near reference level and still the dynamics and bass impact will still be underwhelming.
