    Fasting has become a popular fad for people employing a new diet, but for religious people and those in search of God, fasting takes on a depth of spiritual meaning. Today I sit down with Fr. Peter Adrian, Norbertine priest and chef, to discuss why Christians fast during Lent, the ancient Christian traditions of fasting, the physical and spiritual benefits of fasting, the importance of prudence, and why Christians ought to fast intentionally.

    We can go 30 days without food no issues. Only 3 days without water and 3 minutes without air. We have all become gluttons basically.

      Then stop eating. Stop using the internet, stop using social media. Be an example.

      @@titsmcghee8688 I eat one meal a day, have never used social media, and am on the internet no more than one hour per day. I'm not trying to be an example. My life is very different than most people though.

    I'm skinny and not religious, but I still do regular fasting (on day 4 of one as I type this). I've done up to 30 days. Just make sure you take supplemental vitamins, minerals, etc during it.

      @@equalizertime188 Well fasting has been proven to have countless incredible benefits on a cellular level. Even if it's just for 1 day (although some extra amazing things start happening around day 4-5). So a lot of people tend to use intermittent fasting for weight loss, as a cleanse/detox, for the health/cellular benefits, and as a treatment for certain conditions. One thing you'll see most agree on is that when fasting, you just feel good (better physically, mentally, and emotionally). It's also really appealing knowing you're doing something good for your body at the same time (especially if you have any preexisting issues like insulin resistance or are at high risk for cancer). Then after the first day or two, all the hunger disappears... Which makes it very easy to just keep adding on another day on (hence my unplanned 30 day fast). So I just kind of fell into it one day accidentally. It felt good and is healthy so I kept doing it. I got other people into it, including my parents. My mother lost 65lbs. My dad lost 90lbs and stopped all his diabetes medications. I definitely recommend trying it for anyone interested =)
      Yeah I'm sure it's good for a lot of people. I totally respect other's religious beliefs but am just too much of a proof-based, science-minded type of person I guess.

    Supposedly the average human has 100,000 calories in reserve and only burns 2000 calories per day. So, a forty day water fast would still leave you with 20,000 calories at the end of it before your body started burning muscle

    He is referring to Autophagy. I fast regularly and I achieve autophagy regularly. It is a healing state.

      is it true that muslims eat a lot during night? If that is true does it negate the fasting during daytime?

    • @hagarmaatougui4658
      @hagarmaatougui4658 2 місяці тому

      @@saltyfriesman5330 Its true that in some cultures like the Arabs and Asians, families tend to prepare a lot of food to eat during night. However this is a cultural practice, in Islam we are commanded to eat in a moderate way even after breaking our fast. ❤❤

    No true biblical fasting is fasting away from food and water. If you fast on the Sabbath or Passover you are creating sin. Which are God's holy days. You can fast anyway you want other than God's holy days.

      @@fishofgold6553 Absolutely. Just join some intermittent fasting groups to peek in on. You have to maintain electrolytes and stuff but you can definitely go months without eating and be fine. But people tend to stop after a few days or weeks (I've done 4 weeks before myself). Some guy even did a year in a lab setting for doctors to study once.
