    Honestly the hunter has been so overpowered in the past 3 games that devs had to make them really strong just to keep up with them in the DLC.
    Vitality mantles, temporal mantles, elemental resist mantles, are basically unfair and go against the 'you have to take the negatives with the positives' and risk-reward philosophy of the traditional games.
    Wanna do big numbers? You can but your greatsword is slow and clunky. Charging it makes the numbers even bigger but also riskier.
    Wanna depart on a quest completely stacked with utility items? Cool but you might not have enough space for carves and materials.
    Your weapon has high base damage? Be careful because the sharpness is low.
    Wanna heal? Pay attention to the monster because it might end you if you flex at the wrong time.
    Meanwhile in temporal mantle: Press square to get some free insta-dodges
    On another note, resources have also not mattered much in the past two games. Access to your item box at camp and being able to swap to any loadout infinitely kills the preparation/ planning aspect of the game, and gathering has been so watered down especially in Rise.
    The hunter doesn't even have to FIND the monster anymore in Rise, making monster sleeping and fleeing basically a useless mechanic that just extends the quest time for no reason, and makes the maps virtually arena quests with extra steps since you barely have to learn anything about your environment or how the monster interacts with it.
    I hope Wilds makes you feel like a HUNTER again, because even if World (my fave game in the franchise) spiritually tried to achieve what MH1 set out to do it was a 2 steps forward 1 step back situation imo. Then there's Rise that is a genuinely good game but is also the least 'Monster Hunter' Monster Hunter game if that makes sense.
    Who knows maybe Wilds will be the spiritual successor of MH2 but executed better

      @@PaV_Live sorry, you already said most of these points in the video and i should've finished watching before commenting XD. Also I will add that while I don't ever want to have Rise's constant autotracker again, the franchise hasn't really found the perfect mechanic for finding/tracking a monster. Paintballs are cool but can make a hunt TEDIOUS in such a large, non-segmented map and the scoutfly system has the aesthetics of a hunter tracking (sniffing poop and all that) but in execution you're kinda just running around the map until you find tracks and after that it's just mindlessly following the green trail.

      Hold on hold on hold on, how the FUCK is healing while moving an issue?
      And how the fuck is being able to bring a large amount of healing items and also get carves (which are an INTEGRAL part of the gameplay loop, by the way) a bad thing? I've been playing tri recently (how the fuck do you get cha cha's ancient mask?) and don't share that opinion at all

    • @tofuteh2348
      @tofuteh2348 6 місяців тому +4

      @@IndominusRex-wc1ey i dont mind removing the flex but now we move too fast while drinking it. Again it removes the risk-reward factor and you aren't punished for healing at the wrong time since you can roll out of the animation mid-way.
      The developers didn't add the flex just for shits and giggles- it had a purpose.
      They likely changed it in fear of losing new players on their first globally marketed game in MHW, and maybe to appeal to souls fans.

    • @IndominusRex-wc1ey
      @IndominusRex-wc1ey 6 місяців тому +4

      @@tofuteh2348 fair enough I geuss, but being able to move while healing (at your walk speed, by the way) makes gameplay feel far smoother, and its not like moving while healing takes the dedication out of healing either. If you try to roll out of the heal animation, you don't get a full heal, you heal up to when you began a roll. Thats why healing isn't an instant tick anymore and rather a gradual process (unless you're playing rise in which case its split but both old gen and world fans generally have their issues with rise)

    I think that teaser was mostly in engine, now that I'm seeing it again. You can tell by the frame-rate of the herd and monsters.

    I hope the clutch claw stays but its utility adjusted. I like using it and it works for some weapons but I don't want it to be for tenderization. Just utility

    • @itapproaches3484
      @itapproaches3484 6 місяців тому

      I think the way to fix it is make it to where you don't have to stop all combat to use it, incorporate it into every moveset like it did for hammer and lance, also make it to where the tenderization will last a lot longer if you keep hitting the tenderized area and I think it would be fine

    • @werecoth
      @werecoth 6 місяців тому

      Honestly if water combat comes back, I could see it have great utility as a way to quickly get to a monster, or perhaps grab on to it as it flees and area so it drags you along. If you miss the window, would still have to swim. You'd also still need to be close enough to the monster to grab it to pull in. It functioned like that in World, but that aspect could definitely help some of the issues water combat had.
      Maybe there can be environmental points under water like when climbing in World. Faster traversal or possibly to help dodge.
      Honestly if it does and weakening is back, I hope they make the monsters way more resistance, also wall slams. Like maybe only once per fight and it just lasts longer. Same for the special slinger ammos, way to frequent for how good they were, so if they come back, hopefully they are just much rarer drops and perhaps even have a time limit to use.

    leaning further into destructible environments would be amazing... also terrifying, imagine like a duramberos spinning in a forest area and the trees are being knocked over by his tail so not only do you have to dode the spinning hammer tail but you also have to watch out for the trees he's knocking over. please Capcom, make it happen. i also love the environmental traps but i want more of a mix where some of those are used by the monster as hazards to each other and the player. an example would be like i hated how aquatic/polar expert was basically useless in MHW/IB since the mud/snow fish were so dam weak that that skill wasn't even worth consideration for a single 1 slot to make it work and the other 2 giving conditional extra i frames.
    i really want gogmazios back, he would be so much fun with a post 5th gen redesign. not nearly as much in need of one as fatalis but still. dalamadur would be really fun, i'm still holding out hope that the issues with lagiacrus style leviathans/snake wyverns skeleton not working in MHW or Rise with both a new engine and next gen tech.
    S penis, the worst of Dr. Vegapunk's creations.
    swapping sets mid hunt is fine, i just want no more item restock so the devs don't feel the need to make a bunch of 1 hit kill gimmicks. i rarely restocked because i either didn't have to or didn't want to anyway but some of those 1 shot mechanics were obknoctious.

      I like the idea of being able to bring two loadouts on quests with the new raptor mount. Like, instead of campsites, you got your mount who can carry resources you collect and one additional gear loadout so you can swap mid expedition. Maybe it has its own inventory so if you want to bring extra healing items, you'd have less space for stuff to collect out on the field.
      Every choice you make should have some form of downside to it. That's what makes MonHun so good!

    Great video! I'm so excited for Wilds!
    Regarding the negative skill thing... well, it's a difficult topic. These changes affect such a large part of the game and increasing the complexity at all will lose a lot of people. I want people to have to think more about their builds, too. It's not really their fault for just going raw damage since World/Rise rarely pushed players toward a different direction. One thing I don't like about negative skills though, is simply how they feel to use. It doesn't feel good to willingly take a permanent debuff in a game like this, unless the upside outweighs it (that's where I see the appeal); however, this doesn't happen very often in long-form games where the time you spend in them is much greater (it feels worse to spend a lot of time only to now use more stamina than you did before as you're just going through the story). If negative skills were to return, I'd want them to be something of an inverse to existing skills. Perhaps equipping a certain armor set will give you 2 Attack Boost and 2 Negative Critical Eye. The negative critical eye wouldn't reduce your affinity so that it could be balanced on the weapon itself. Instead, it would mean you need 2 levels of critical eye to break even. This would mean, if they balance everything well enough (big ask no matter what), people will have to think if it's worth it to go full force into affinity boosts for less skills overall, or use the opportunity to try other skills to fill niches. Not a perfect solution as it takes time to craft one. Again, it's a really tough topic as we move forward past the 5th generation, where ecology and larger-than-life encounters took precedent over hours designing armor. Also side note about restocking items. Most people who use a lot of potions are probably just thinking they're taking too many hits and will focus on dodging more instead of leaning on gathering.
    Really, I just want what you want with more intentional build/mixed sets while keeping the intuitive game design.

    I hope they will go even further with turf wars with monsters literally dying during the fight similar to real life animals and make capture quests even more challenging and on top of that interacting and breaking up turf wars so that your target monster does not die! I hope to explore every layer of the new world, ocean environments, underground "hollow Earth" style environments with giant a mushroom forest! Going on expeditions hearing and seeing monsters fighting over food, territory, mates, destroying environments etc. monsters stalking and sniffing out your character because they are curious and not instantly attacking you! I hope they also play out each monster's ecology in real time seeing the natural food chain, maybe even a breeding season type of ordeal, just so much they can do with this awesome game!

    They don’t have to bring back negative armor skills but they can have less attack skills and more utility skills

    • @werecoth
      @werecoth 6 місяців тому

      They don't have to but I hope they do, it let's them have more options to balance armours. It fits that some armours that would keep one cool in a hot desert would leave one more exposed to the cold of a snow covered mountain top. On the opposite end maybe some armours would trap heat like an oven, and negative skills help convey this.

  • @kainslegacy7
    @kainslegacy7 6 місяців тому +4

    As a first game vet i def agree that i want the ecology to be a way bigger part of this game. You can come find me tho big boi, cause the first game is better than everything until IB. Come back to me when you rebuff rathalos' dmg by 45%, and you gotta fight kut ku with a butter knife while wearing a thong. But fr tho, i honestly see a big open world working just fine, as long as your gateway to it is tied to the hub town. Literally start at hub, gear up, grab quest, and use ecology knowledge to find where your target is endemic. Then it'd just be tracking. Could be super fkn dope, can't wait for more.

      Freedom Unite is nostalgic favorite. Has a lot going for it. 4 has some amazing aspects as well imo. I started with the original Portable and still remember actually fighting the Shakalaka King with was not a full monster back then but was in the game, Forest and Hills, Central Cave. Had to kill a bunch of regular Shakalaka's and he would spawn there, Barbecue spit and all. I remember few believed me at the time on Gamefaqs, lol.

    Man, all the issues i've had with 5th gen brought up in one video, as well as things i'd like to see in the next game. Worldborne, even as amazing as it is, and Risebreak to a rather lesser degree, they brought different issues to the game, dumbing down mechanics, slimming down prep to being non-existent. Glad to see some other content creators talking about this stuff.
    While I would like to see some 4U monsters I wasn't able to hunt, like Dalamadur, Gog, I would like to see some monsters that got thrown by the wayside and get that Worldborne glow-up, like Jhen and Dah'ren, Lao, Shen, Yama, Dire. They could really use some love and appreciation too

  • @neheobthe1st
    @neheobthe1st 6 місяців тому +1

    Subbed for good opinions. And by good opinions I mean my opinons 😂 Nah fr though, good insights. There's no telling what this game could bring, but I have faith the team knows what they're doing. I would love to see a return to classic MH where any form of preperation matters and every hunt isn't just a glorified Arena battle, but there is no way to say where they will take the series, given the massive mainstream attention it's gotten.
    Honestly, a massive, open world setting is probably * the * perfect time to take the series back to a slower, more methodical pace, as open world games naturally lend themselves to that sort of gameplay, without things feeling out of place. If a super accessible, casual game like Breath of the Wild can see preperation aspects like gearing for harsh weather or long climbs without any complaints from the community, then surely the series about hunting and survival can do the same, with the help of an open world setting.

    People gotta understand Rise was a combat playground experimentation for Capcom, even if it wasnt cuz the limitations in the hardware, anyway why put work into environment and immersion when its gonna be extremely underappreciated by the console itself, i personally would be feel bad as a dev if i had to put work into Rise world, shit cant take one more tree. So just make the combat crazy and what not so ppl dont even have time to pay attention to the surroundings, or interact with this and that, or nothing, some little birds they gotta pick on their way to the monster should suffice 😂. Thats Rise summarized, its gonna go down as an experimental low cost low effort thingy, some cash for Capcom to mega fund Wilds!! Lets gooooo
