Fear was the enemy here. Everyone acted of their worst fear and it ended up in disaster. Mother Anaseya and Master Indara were the rational ones here, sadly they didn't listen to them.

Don't think it was too rational for Anaseya to turn into a scary smoke monster and start to dissolve Mae against her will. What was she trying to do? How was she helping to solve the fire problem by taking a demonic-like form after Mae says there is a fire and maybe also reacting to the other mother taking an attack stance and the padawan igniting his light saber in reaction to that. I might have reacted in a similar manner as Sol if I saw a child dissolving and was thinking dark-side Force wielding Anaseya was the cause, couldn't she guess that that would be his most likely reaction? It's weird the other mother takes an attack stance apparently in reaction to Mae saying there's a fire. I don't remember seeing any witches try to fight a fire, maybe because they know they live in a mostly stone structure and don't expect the fire to spread too much.
Sol does a break-in but then I believe Sol tells Anaseya something like "We come with noble intentions" and he seems to be trying to deescalate tensions. Instead of telling Sol Osha would be allowed to go with the Jedi while she was dying why didn't Anaseya tell him that much earlier in their parley instead of increasing tensions by being antagonistic? It's also kinda weird Sol was able to kill Anaseya despite her being in an incorporeal form and characters like Sabine of Asoka and Reva of Obiwan surviving similar lightsaber stabbings (twice for Reva). I think it's right for Jedi to be suspicious of those who use the dark side of the Force since the dark side has caused much suffering in the galaxy.
Don't know why Indara wants to omit some things from the story they will tell the Jedi Council. Apparently b/c it will affect Osha's Jedi training or ability to join the order or something, it so confusing!?!? I'm not totally sure the Jedi did a whole lot of bad things. I think biggest wrongs were doing break-ins and having apparent desires to kidnap girls that is later brought under control. Sol, through creepy spying, sees what he thinks is abuse of girls from what at minimum is a cultish group. Doing heavy duty multi-minute mind control to force a Wookie to attack and almost kill that Wookie's allies suggests this cult also uses the dark side. Mae makes unusual comments about her and all witches being "sacrificed to their destiny" or something like that.
They should tell the Council that they went against the Council orders and interfered with the coven. Then tell the Council that Torbin, despite Jedi being trained to control emotion so as to avoid the dark side, was so deeply homesick and/or couldn't stand the planet that he went off to apparently kidnap two girls for proof they were associated with a Vergence even though he already had proof of how special they were b/c he had their blood test?!? Sol and Torbin then break-in to the coven's HQ apparently now with little desire to kidnap. Even though the head of the coven wanted Osha to go with the Jedi after Osha expressed a desire to do so, Mae saying there was a fire and/or some other trigger(s) caused the coven head to apparently use the dark side to transform herself into a frightening form and Mae seemed to start to take a similar form, apparently against her will. Then tell the Council that probably out of fear and/or a desire to protect Mae, Sol then killed the coven head. Sol then wants to save the two girls from the fire. After some skirmishes where Sol and Torbin are only being defensive and practice no offense, a bunch of the coven (possibly all of the rest of the coven) then took mental control of the Wookie, having him come close to killing Sol and Torbin. Then tell the Council that Indara then attempted to use her abilities to break the coven's control over the Wookie and this caused those controlling to either pass-out or more likely to die (Indara must be really powerful, the power of one appears stronger than daa powar of mmaaannyyy), something Indara probably didn't expect to happen. If there were coven members that were still alive then they apparently died in the fire. Apparently one or more took smoke-demon form and may have escaped the fire. Sol then went to try to rescue the two girls from the fire. Then tell the Council that Sol used the Force to support what are probably multi-tonne collapsing platforms that the two children are standing on instead of using the Force to support just the two light children similar to what he will do 16 years later when Osha falls off a cliff and is around double the weight she is at this time. He could ask them to step back to a safer position or Force push them there. Tell the Council that despite Yoda believing that Force lifting a 10 lb rock and lifting an X-wing Fighter are only different in your mind, Sol couldn't support both platforms and allowed Mae to fall to her apparent death while rescuing Osha.
If they don't tell this story then have to make up lies to explain things why Torbin's face was so scarred and is still quite scarred 16 years later. My guess is that the Council may dish out some punishments but will think much of what happened was self defense, the Jedi had little to no intention of forcibly taking the children, one of whom the mother and coven leader was allowing to go with the Jedi. Don't know how the full truth will hinder Osha's Jedi training or standing in the Order or whatever. Maybe she's too old to be trained? Also have a hard time seeing how Torbin felt so guilty that after he went from a padawan to Master in only six years he would then spend the next ten years in a meditative state and as soon as he came out of it would choose to self delete rather than tell the Jedi Council the full truth of what had happened on Brendok 16 years prier when the Jedi didn't do much wrong. What did the Wookie do that was so bad that Mae wanted to kill him?
I guess the other mother became a smoke monster and probably survived the fire and might have helped train Qimir. I think it'd be cool if his master is instead the short, sniffer, unknown pronoun, rodent alien, maybe being a Sith Master. Have the otter do Force chokes, hack limbs with a lightsaber, be angry with Qimir for revealing the existence of the Sith.

I wonder if when Sol said “your eyes can deceive you…” and “don’t let fear cloud your judgement,” he was thinking of how he acted on Brendok.
I also wonder if the vergence intensified the desires they brought with them - Torbin to go home and Sol’s wanting a Padawan.

Thanks to Jordan, Christian, Jack and Julien! 🌑 Misinterpretation is very important to explain characters' vantages. The "we must be sacrificed" misquote little 'Mae' relayed to 'Indara' and 'Sol' had a huge impact. They literally thought the girls would be killed. 'Aniseya' actually said, "It is about sacrificing a *part* of ourselves". 🔸 It's also wild to learn that 'Sol' was imposing his own wants (to have a Padawan... even though he might not be ready) onto the situation. He even almost lost his temper on 'Indara' at the end. That shows a very un-Jedi-like conflict that adds to his motivations. 🔸 Ms. Headland says she doesn't like ending a series on a cliffhanger, so she made sure to end this one in a satisfying way. 🔸 Jack's theory about the witches' consciousnesses being trapped in 'Kelnacca' was brilliant!!!

For the two gentlemen in the video on the left hand side of the screen-
Mother Aniseya was not going to kill Mae and she wasn’t going to absorb her either
The only reason she said no and activated her powers was to use defense to stop mother Koril and Torbin from fighting
It was all a protective measure
The reason her powers activated Mae’s power is because she had been Newley christened with a stronger connection to the power and that’s why her powers activated as her mothers did
That’s all again none of the coven were evil they just did things in a different way

About Qimir's scars, there's also the possibility that the light whip could be a misdirection. I think the force lightning theory could work too. And if Qimir is looking for an Acolyte, according to Legends that would be beneath Apprentice, meaning that perhaps the force lightning came from Qimir's Sith Master. He never outright said where the scar came from. He asked Osha where he thought it came from.

Acolyte all-flashback episode 7 was very good.
I liked the references to the hyperspace catastrophe that wiped out life on some planets; of which in the last episode Jedi master Vernestra has pain/nausea from traveling through hyperspace due to her strong connection to the force.
The fact that Sol was an emotional Jedi like Dooku, Anakin and Quigon Jinn was seen in quite a big way.
The turn of the plot, who is responsible for the death of the entire Clan of these Witches who follow the path of Bogan = Darkness in magic, they were quite similar to the Witches of the Sisterhood of the Night from Dathomir, where Darth Maul also comes from.
The fights were great, the choreography was great and seeing two Jedi fight against a possessed Wookie Jedi was great.
But most of all, normally, just like Mother Cora, I felt this emotional pain in my heart. When Sol killed her partner, co-mother of two children and the love of her life, mother Aniseya, in front of her eyes.
The destruction reminded me of something similar to when the Jedi destroyed the entire planet of Korriban, where the original Sith race came from.

@@seltrixbl2623 The hyperspace disaster that Indara was talking about in Acolyte episode 7. It was in the book Star Wars High Republic Light of the Jedi & Into the Dark. Where you can learn that all life on some planets was built in this event. Vernestra was alive at that time and because she is more connected to the force and when she travels through hyperspace she tends to have pain/"nausea". You could say that it is something similar to when Darth Nihilus in Star Wars by Republic vacuum cleaners the life from the planets. Better to read it or at least watch some lore video about it.

I'm with Christian... I don't really care how Mae survived. It's a fall, at the very least she could probably use the force to cushion her fall. As for Mother Koril, I also don't mind if her death remains up in the air. My initial thought was she perished along with the others while controlling Kelnacca, but maybe she wasn't part of the possession, and if she somehow survived I'm completely fine with that as well. Like Julien, I don't always need or want to know all the details.
As an aside, I did feel a little bad for Jordan lol. I don't necessarily agree with his specific criticism on the structure and his suggestions for improvement, but I didn't like how he was interrupted about 12 times trying to express it. I also vehemently disagree on the Kelnacca wire work criticism, but that's just me lol.
Overall I really enjoyed this episode. The moral grey areas always leave a lot open for discussion and personal interpretation, and I'm all for exploring that more. On the flip side, I'd also love to get more exploration into some of the more intense aspects of dark and light as well. Some of the Sith stuff that occurred in Legends is next level evil and monstrous, which I wouldn't mind seeing a bit of in future SW live action.

I also agree that Korril vaporized simply to escape. Not to possess Kelnacca. The weaker witches needed their combined power to do it. And, when Aniseya tried to vaporize, she was simply trying to escape with May. Sol just interpreted it as an aggressive move. Basically, that power is an defensive evasion move.

It reminded me of apparating in the Potterverse actually. I don't think it was threatening at all. The Jedi should not have been in there in the first place - they were basically committing a home invasion. To then feel justified to act with lethal force when you get attacked by the people whose house you have invaded is tragic but was ultimately avoidable. Sol and Torbin really messed up and ultimately did more harm to the twins than anyone else. Fascinating topics to bring to the screen😄Oh and very deft handling of their cover as they technically didn't lie. I would enjoy it more if they combine episode 1-3 into 1 episode, introducing the characters and the past/current plots with episode 3 condensed in a montage to give audience a clear unreliable narrative vibe. 4-6 should be made into 1 episode to highlight the tragic outcome of the current event and the split of the twins. 7-8 reveal the truth of the past plot and how it affect the twins in current time - past and present lead to the destiny of the twins and everyone involved in it. Three 1.5hr episode miniseries would be great.

It seems like Quimir is tied in to their home planet or EVEN hear me out, the hyperspace incident, he is tied into who lived on the planet BEFORE. Which is why vernestra references hyperspace sickness. It's related with her whip and his back scar. He was there hundreds of years ago, (or however long it was)? Just my crazy theory 🤭

Great discussion guys but I'm thinking maybe it's super difficult to have sexy wirework for a character who's supposed to be 7' tall and take the win of seeing a Wookie kick butt using his size ,the force and a lightsaber. It's not complicated, everyone on the panel has seen the Matrix. Mother Koril is likely dead -wherever her body is. She linked with the other coven members while on the spirit plane to have enough power to take Kelnacca. Indara breaking the link was fatal to the others why not her?
I disagree with Julien's take on Sol and his behavior. Let's throw out unlawful entry and Burglary to assess the situation concerning these unfamiliar force users, I'll by that. He pushed the issue on "saving" the children after the first encounter out of concern and worry?? Sure. Everything else is way past Oppps but he meant well.
He doesn't retrieve the compromised padawan, as ordered, disobeys his superior and high command by committing burglary again with the padawan as an accomplice. He Lies during negotiations with another force user and kills her after a struggle because he misidentifies the sister asking for help and lastly the compound burns to the ground because all the other adults die fighting home invaders responsible for their leaders death.

Possible Spoiler: So the whole time im watching ACOLYTE i have trying to figure out the ultimate secret to the story and this is my theory. i think Qimir is the missdirect we were to focused on him to see what was infront of our faces. the biggest selling point for alot of people was that Carrie anne moss was on the show as Master Andara and they killed her in the first episode but showed her in flashbacks. i think she is the dark master behind this story and here is my evidence. when me see her in the bar and she is killed she has 2 dots tattooed near her left eye and when we see her in the flash backs she has 1 dot. next they were looking for a vergence in the force and she just happens to be on the team that is doing so. when Sol finds the girls near the tree he calls Andara but she doesnt repond why? then when Sol tells her that the witches are preparing for a ritual she looks up at the planetary allignment like she new what the ritual was going to be. when Andara tells mother Anasaya they didnt believe there was life on the planet did she say this for the jedi to hear to hide the fact that she knew there was a coven there. she has the strange look on her face during osha's test and later she tells Sol he was coaching her i think the face was in regaurd to her knowing something about what Mae was talking about because he Sol was confused by what she meant coaching her. how would she know that there was a power strong enough to split one conciousness into two bodies. then the witches cast the spell to mind control Kelnacca and when Andara jumps on him she some how reverses the spell and kills the witches how can a jedi reverse a spell unless she was a witch herself and knew what the spell was because she knew right away what to do. she was the one to offer the story to tell the jedi that Mae started the fire and the witches died in the fire instead of the full truth. Ultimately i think she was on brendok looking for an Acolyte for herself and the jedi messed up her plans and excellerated the situation and did the jedi council accually say not to interfere or did she just tell them that to make them go fight the witches and take the girls anyways. so later she would take qimir as her acolyte and he betrays his jedi master Vanesstra and she whips him with her whip saber thus the scars on his back. So with the rule of two Qimir is now looking for an acolyte of his own to kill his master secretly Andara. now this is just a theory but im just saying what i noticed and what i think the ultimate secret could be and i could be wrong and thats ok. its just fun to try to figure the mytery out before the story is over. i would like your thoughts on this and please no arguing or any bashing or hate comments please i just want thoughts on what people think is the ultimate end to this would be or even if it will have more seasons to flush all this out.

This is evidence that Star Wars fans are cut from a different cloth than other sci fi and fantasy fans. It's pretty common in other IPs that being severed from a mind link is dangerous or lethal, so when it happened here in episode 7, it was clear that that is what had happened to the witches. I'm hoping that this era of the High Republic will be covered in novels since the fate of The Acolyte continuing is murky. The books a century before this are very young adult. The decline of the Republic, I think, could be the future of Star Wars, if they're going to be avoiding the clumsy rhyming of the sequels or even the Old Republic era.

Great review , I'd like to first say anyone who says Anakin's character is ruined doesn't really know the mythology of "The Chosen One" . In Greek mythology, Perseus, Theseus, Hercules, and Jason are all Chosen , though each is for a specific Generation. Second Anakin himself is displaced as the chosen by Luke, and if you grew up with the OG trilogy first Luke was the chosen one till the prequels then changed it to Anakin . Which I believe may have caused an uproar on old fans don't quote me on that I'm old , also for Mother Koril I may have to rewatch but I thought once the witches thread to Kelnacca was cut her body appeared next to the group of witches I don't think she is a live . In my opinion the chosen one is generational because the chosen one can live only for so long and is there to solve the problem of the time not to create a full world of peace. The chronicles of Narnia depict this well with Narnia changing The kids start aging out so they need new heroes . Anakin fell to the dark side so a new "Chosen one" rises through Luke. Luke's new Jedi acadmey doesn't create a new stable universe , the fall of the empire leaves many disillusioned as many were comfortable with the Empire regime creating both, leads to creating a new generation who needs a new hero or chosen one. Hence why people hate the new sequels these fans can't look beyond their own generation and let the new take over. Almost like they didn't learn that being arrogant , dogmatic and lazy was the fall of their favorite Jedi order.

One thing I don’t understand is wookiees are very strong willed not to mention a force sensitive one right. So how did they break in and take control. Also Sol didn’t need to hold up both platforms why didn’t he just lift the girls only at max that would be 125 pounds.

To answer your first question, we have many examples in both Legends and the new Canon of wookies becoming evil. About being strong-willed, but there's a difference between assuming that being strong-willed means. Oh, I can resist evil and just what will is, which is a power in order to maintain something. If you're extremely strong-willed to be violent and evil? The dark side's not trying to break your will. It's doing the opposite. It's bringing all of your worst qualities out which is something people can easier fall into. One day I'm going to have to do a video about the whole mirror theory.

Americans have no idea how long a show can telling one story. I have seen fifty 45 minute episode Cdramas that are one straight story chopped into 50 episodes. Complaining that Disney caps its episodes but waste run time on 15 minutes of credits. Is the crew that different from episode to episode.

The writing is pretty strong to be honest. Perfect? Lol, no. But a lot of problems people have expressed with the writing are really production issues (especially in the editing) and occasionally (but less often) acting or directing issues. The dialogue is occasionally a little stilted, but that’s just Star Wars. It’s always been like that. There aren’t any serious plot holes, the characterizations are solid, and outside of Amandla Stenberg (who is quite talented, but maybe a little inexperienced and simply being asked to do too much in playing two characters) the acting is outstanding. The fight choreography is among the best the franchise has ever had, the visual language of the show (especially in Koganada’s episodes) is very strong, and even a lot of the editing things that bother some folks (like complaints about pacing, which can be skewed by a scene change from a fight to another scene, or screen wipes, or other quintessential Star Wars elements that seem to bother some folks a lot more than they bother me) aren’t really THAT big an issue. The biggest issue with this show as far as public perception remains the relentless review bomb/hate campaign from people who decided months (or even a year or more with some of them) before the show even aired that they hate it. It seeps into the zeitgeist, buoyed by a predatory algorithm on YT and elsewhere that feeds it. It starts creeping into even good faith reviews (of which there are shockingly few to begin with) of the show. But the show’s reception has been strong in terms of viewership, and the powers at Lucasfilm (especially Filoni, who we know consulted directly on this show) aren’t going to cave to the bad faith garbage. It performed well in the engagement metrics the corporation cares about, so the creatives can pitch that to the suits and the suits will listen. I think smart money is on a season 2 with most of the same folks returning, minus some writers who may not return because they don’t appreciate the endless harassment and death threats. As a writer myself, I would absolutely not want to put up with the kind of awful, awful stuff the writers of this show have had to endure.

I watch you guys for comedic reasons, but hearing you state you won't stand for hate speech. Yet you are okay with a StatWars show (in name only) that is made for children to show sexually explicit situations? That is not the Jedi way. You all have lost your way blinded by the darkside. The Jedi have always and will always be the beacon of light. When Jedi are made to be evil and Sith made to be good the world is not right. I pray for your souls.

Something that's confused me watching the response of this episode coming out is you know people can argue legitimate things about a show like pacing and odd character development. But I keep seeing that everyone's angry that the Jedi are going to act this stupid and I even saw one video titled make the Jedi great. What confuses me is that especially in the Legends Canon. The whole point is that after the sith War the Jedi became so arrogant and their heads stucked up their own asses for so long that they became prideful and xenophobic and started acting really goddamn stupid and that led to their downfall. Ever since they announced this show, the core tenant of the show was to show the beginning stages of them acting this dumb. Literally saw worse. Dumb stuff happen in the literal prequel movies with the Jedi who are their descendants. The entire Crux of the Jedi Order falling in the prequels and being the whole situation of the original trilogy and the sequels hinges on the Jedi being absolutely stupid. So it's like I don't get it. The show advertises. Hey, this is beginning of the Jedi being stupid and then everyone's yelling at them Being stupid. Like saying your film is going to have a lot of gun shooting and then people leaving the theater complaining there were too many guns. Like WTF!?
