The comment section became a reddit thread with all the "achtually" guys I won't waste time on it anymore, but I'll just say few things so that you stop wasting yours and stop writing these essays decision.nochecks had about 20 errors before this DLC once inputted, now it has thousands of them Playing on historical makes nations go ahist paths randomly now, amazing change! what I said about localization, some of you seem to mald over, yes, spending time adding FOUR localizations for Zaolzie and tons of random victory points is time wasted if your target nations still have tons of issues that have not even been adressed by this DLC, which instead of repairing an old car just painted over it (Hungary still having 1 single supply hub is an example) And also "this is how paradox is" is not an argument, I'm out
It just seems like you hate the game and the community and find things to nitpick since most of the video was a nothingburger, just play something else at this point
@@Kittystag You're very bitter. Hoi4 is stale and getting worse with each DLC no amount of your kvetching will change that. Go play late game if Hoi4 is so great, then.
i agree with you @sejozwak as a beginner player i feel like pardox took the easiest nation and added tons a content and made hoi4 kinda dead because just like TOA the new dlc gottardamag just feels like a giant mod and feels like hoi4 devs didnt spend their time carefully choosing what the community wants instead adding what will make them a quick buck (i know hoi4 devs work hard and im glad for the effort they’ve put in there game your probably wont read all of this but sorry for the essay)
@KemonoFriendsOfficial I just finished A late game run and it was by far the most fun I've had late game (largely due to raids and the wonder wepons). Though I will say performance concerns are a concern and although my historical run stayed historical I haven't played enough to see if fordable nations are an issue.
I definitely understand what you mean to a degree, I was playing as Austria last night and as the Austrian Empire you can demand Poland to become your puppet, Poland got attacked by the Soviet Union and ended up joining the Japanese faction so then when Japan was defeated, Poland's land was taken over by China and I could now demand China become my puppet, I did so and they accepted, a tiny bit of play testing would've caught that bug surely
This has been a problem for all HOI4 DLC when the Netherlands got a focus tree you got locked out of your Fascist tree if you became Fascist too fast not to say these aren't issues worth complaining about but lack of play testing is nothing new.
A similar issue happened to me, austria was released by the allies and annexed the soviet union out of nowhere during ww3. This seems to be a serious issue as soviet often puppets poland and the allies often release austria in historical
i think it this was way before new dlc and this happens because you get to demand the owner of the land to be your puppet not the certain country so the problem is the way it's coded i think
This game had fucking bear forming slavic empire, hitler fleeing to Argentina and getting cores on germany, pope restoring rome, mcarthur restoring csa, etc etc, but now that austria can form Lichtenstein its joever?
No, it’s the fact they “borrowed” from a mod (or a few), they didn’t bug fix, and they think quantity is more important then quality. Any indie dev would be castrated if they had a game even close to as buggy as HOI4z
I've heard this said before and it comes down to the fundamental changes PDX made between HOI3 and 4. Instead of actually managing your nation's politics, interest groups and economics in depth you click a series of larpy/RP focuses that give you epic bonuses/counter arbitrary debuffs needed to railroad the game along historical lines.
What's wrong with nations being able to form ahistorical nations if they fulfill the requirements? In a historical game they won't be able to do it anyway and if you puppet them and give them the land, I actually think it's nice you can make them more powerful.
@@schwarzenegger_arnold Because they check for every decision with every single tick for some reason. Disabling it on historical, mode the majority plays, in which no nation will have the required stuff, is such an easy fix
Because now they would do so as it seems. I did use those commands on multiple historical and ahistorical paths, whenever the AI had set up to do historical paths even on ahistorical playthroughs, they simply ignored those decisions (or focuses if i was doing say no_focus_check because of a bug while doing my focus tree). The fact that it doesn't check now is bad, and worse than previous iterations of the game.
Okay so uh, I'm gonna be honest, I don't own the DLC and I probably won't until it's on sale and I've got a source of income, but this video is kinda eh. I'll go over your points. 1. The localization. So apparently it's a bad thing to add a little bit of extra flavor by having a state or city name change depending on who's owning it? 2. The performance. My brother in Christ, you literally turned on decision.NoChecks of course the game isn't behaving how it's supposed to. 3. The portraits. Accusing the portraits of being AI generated when your only evidence is "oh his moustache looks off" feels like a bad faith argument just meant for the sake of riling people up. 4. The focuses. I mean yeah HoI4 has had silly alternative history focuses since at least Waking the Tiger and the HRE path, what's wrong with a few silly focuses meant for fun? This isn't an ultrahistorical wargame, if it was then there wouldn't ever be any ahistorical content. Also you say the focuses are stolen from mods and yet you provide no evidence at all. 5. The game is catering to political extremists. I mean, no not at all? PDX are obviously not endorsing the crimes that the axis powers committed. Germany has needed a rework for a while now, this isn't for the sake of catering to extremists. Once again this feels like a bad faith argument. 6. The bugs. This is your only good point, yeah bugs are bad, hopefully they'll get fixed soon. In conclusion, you're allowed to dislike this DLC, that's the neat part about opinions, they're perfectly fine to have. The issue is when you make bad faith arguments with flimsy evidence to support your opinion, it makes it feel like you're hating it just for the sake of hating it, instead of any actual reasons. Anyways I know this comment is pretty long, but I just wanted to dissect your points, and I hope you can take these criticisms I have to heart and make even better videos in the future
Tbh I agree on all, except point 2 - I think the reason he did nochecks was to show that the AI is checking every single hour what decisions they can do and clicking anything available, which seems a bit excessive - no idea how bad that is for performance but it runs ok on my rig anyway.
The liechtenstein path is an easter egg, it unlocks only if you do specific focuses and you can pick the other choice in an event and it won't trigger. It unlocks secret focuses just like the fourth reich as argentina or wojtek/romanov path as poland. I see no issue with that whatsoever Also obviously when you type a command in the console it will do something weird, you're not supposed to it during a normal playthrough (and I'm pretty sure if you did that before it would also spam you with 'Panama canal blown' and 'Panama canal repaired' so it's not like it's a new thing)
Its not about who just play for fun, exist a lot of guys that play this game just for the pleasure to be Hitler (and others, but his point was about the nazis)
Some of your points make sense, and some are just nitpicking and whining from someone who clearly hates hoi4 and many parts of the community. So new ahistorical paths are just a meme and any historical path is solely catering to extremists? Bro, pick a lane and stay there
You are so right and besides all that, hoi4 is still a video game. In don’t want to play, for example as monarchist Germany because of any ideology, I want to play them or anyone else because it is fun.
The historical path in this DLC does feel like it catering to the more radical crowd abit more, it have that TNO moment it in. They definitely borrow alot from mod but without taking in the historical lesson some of the mod trying to (even TNO). For example they definite see how successful TNO made certain leader extremely interesting, the inner circle system feel like they trying to do a TNO multiple leader type stuff with it, glorifying the important of the nazi high command abit too much while still underplaying the wehrmacht. I don't agree with his ahistorical path opinion but the historical-ish path(s) of this DLC is abit sus.
@@spookyengie735 They aren't really glorifying top nazis. They are just trying to add them to the game without the holocaust, which of course causes problems but i think calling it glorifying is a bit much.
Yeah like the RKs dont have historical leaders and the Polish falangist leader who hated the Nazis is the local admin for the Gouverment. Genuinely more time went into Liechtenstein than historical RKs. And I'm fine with Liechtenstein, its an easter egg. Every dlc has one. But you cant even larp in vanilla historical if know the history because its just absurd. There are simplifications and then there is a lack of skimming a wikipedia page.
Holy, this video is so dramatic. It feels like you're upset by the lack of QA (justified), so you start making these random inconsequential arguments like provinces changing names being a waste of time and the game lagging WHILE you use a cheat/debug command lol. Paradox's products being bugged at launch has been a thing for a long time unfortunately but we don't have to suddenly say the game is "dead", like chill man.
I don't think you understand how HOI4's AI works, the AI has to actually check if it can do those decisions, and since it's checking every tick, it causes insane amounts of lag because the game's AI is poorly coded. This also goes for focus trees and research trees too, even when the AI cannot possibly research a thing, it still has to check if it can research that thing. I don't think I need to explain why this is an issue. In the video he turned on the debug command to visually show how bad this is, and even then he was only showing events/decisions. When we take research and focuses into account it's much much worse. TLDR: Paraslop interactive is too lazy to optimize their games properly.
@@thefernofrommarsgaming4204 Except that's not how that works. For decisions in particular, the AI compiles a list of the decisions available to it semi-regularly, and then checks only those decisions on its daily ticks. It doesn't check every single decision in the game every tick. Similar limiters are put on everything else you're talking about. What likely happened here is that some piece of background optimization done in this update broke whatever was preventing the AI from considering every decision as "available" when decision.nochecks is turned on, and bugfixing a console command primarily meant for testing was rightly rock bottom on the priority queue. He himself admits in his pinned comment that decision.nochecks causes these errors and that this isn't a constant background problem, his only defense being "well it didn't do that before the update". Very manipulative to leave that part out of his original complaints.
Actually the Haiti Liechtenstein dispute is historical. The dispute began at the 1936 olympics in which both nations participated, but they both presented themselves with Blue Red flags, with no coat of arms period. This resulted in confusion and eventually both nations were forced to adopt coat of arms as to prevent further confusion.
indeed. Play HRE. And the Pope. And Aussa. Me myself, i only play neutral greece with King George (so more historical than historical) and Aussa. So I really don't like how much the games slows down, with the time, for my 10 military factoris or so
I ve been here half an hour trying to figure out if this is a troll video, if it is a troll youre an actual genius. Trying to analise your arguments and figure out why anyone would even think about them is debilitating, and the worst thing is that you actualy present arguments that are pretty good. One example of a good argument(only one) is the optimization, but even that argument is not valid if you link it to the rest of the video if it is the potimization than it is not a case of hoi4 being a zombie because this is fixable, and paradox has shown us they can fix it. Be thankful that paradox actually listens to criticism. Hoi4 after the update before götterdammerung was running super fast(at least for me and for the content creators i watch). Im sorry if the ponctuation is weird, my brain is actually melting trying to figure out if this ironic or not.
It’s probably genuine The filler content (renaming stuff) is just kinda pointless and it’s a small change that people wouldn’t notice It also kinda seems that there won’t be much more updates and dlcs (why it’s dying). It just seems that there will be like 1-2 more updates/dlcs more and it’s the end. The formables just lag the game. Eu4 has for example every month, hoi4 put a check on each hour, lagging the game a bit. Everyone knows about the radicalism in hoi4 community, that’s a fair argument actually. It’s not dead because of the dlc. It’s dead because it shows that there won’t be much more updates
Great point, but it looks like paradox may be getting better over the years with alt-history larp specifically. Most alt-hist paths used to just give you a war goal just because; thats that, but now it looks like paradox is making it more interesting with events and crises. Most other things need severe improvement though.
My issue is all the stupid Wonder Weapons. I just hit the US and Japan with an ICBM from Hungary in 1941. Like 16 years ahead of real life while Germany runs around with Super Battleships on wheels. Its just too memey. Other than that its a cool DLC I think they should have spent more time on giving us a reworked research system and a better raiding system.
Ok. Here you go. Get your new dlc with only one way for one country, small focus tree, with no small details added and old art style The only good point is about optimization "If you want new content just download mods" = "If you homeless just buy a house"
Mate ye missunderstood what he meant with that. He meant the game is pandering towards content like that of mods, which is honestly true, some of those focuses could be a part of kaiserredux or führeredux if it wasn't because of the alt-history lore in those mods, rather than going for more serious HOI4 original content.
@@KirbyKitten Wym "serious HOI4 original content"? The game is literally about you changing the course of history. If you want the game to be a historical roleplaying game then go watch a movie or something, the most fun runs are the ones were you go for crazy challenges and goals.
Terrible news for people who start their hoi4 games by typing decision.nochecks into the console, otherwise it's just complaining the basegame isn't like KR
Hitler's portrait legit looks like shit, I too thought that it might be AI generated, not to mention it is not at all consistent with the style of the other portraits and sticks out like a sore thumb.
that's not what I said lmao, go back to reddit, and it wasn't a gamebreaking command just a week ago, and bunch of other commands were not gamebreaking just a week ago but now are
"Noooo you cant have fun in the video game !!!!" My nigga, let me larp in peace . Thats the whole point of this game.Ill agree with the lack of quality tho ,youve got that right
He's probably one of those people who believes that you are the literal reincarnation of Hitler if you don't exclusively play as "le hekkin wholesome stalin" and try to recreate the Holodomor.
When did he say you can't have fun in the game? You don't have to justify to others why you stupidly spent your money on a company that will milk you for your last dime and give you garbage slop in exchange
The main issue is the overlapping focuses creating bugs, and the obviously "inspired" content from free mods being the large part of the DLC. I've found the actual mechanics, like ministers for Germany are quite good, but not enough. Also, this being the meme update just signals a creative death, same as with movie genres.
the way AI handles decisions was changed in this update to encourage modders to implement more complex decisions systems, which is why it behaves differently even then i dont see why you should be complaining when this issue is EXCLUSIVE to decision.nochecks, something that no sane human being would ever enable outside of testing *''formables arent supposed to be made on historical''* non issue, i dont see how that kills the game and is simply flavour *''the code is from mods''* if something works, use it! why bother remaking something if the optimal solution already exists? *''the hitler portrait is AI generated''* no it is not, and this is such a reach. there are no signs of AI art anywhere in the portrait and i'd say its because of the limited resolution of hoi4 portraits *''there are stupid paths''* its a game, games should be fun, these paths are fun *''why do these states have the same building slots''* balance, simply balance *''you cant tell the infrastructure from far away''* theres a trick to bypass this, its called zooming in and seeing the infrastructure levels from the tooltip... *''the special projects seem cartoonish''* this is by far the most realistic feature added in this update, and it is cartoonish? facilities and special projects exist in reality... *''they added more research''* yes it has become bloated, minor nations struggle keeping up with all the research and i think this is a valid point that needs addressing *''civil war wasnt reworked''* people hate civil wars in hoi4, they ruin your early game and just arent enjoyable, so why overcomplicate the german civil war? *''if they go democratic nothing happens in the world''* they go democratic on unhistorical if not player controlled, which would cause global chaos if enabled. if a player goes democratic germany and then proceeds to do nothing, that is on them *''theres a lot of bugs''* shocker, just like any software on the planet *''this dlc caters to extremists''* the implication here is that you prefer nations dont get fun world conquest focuses and instead run out of content way quicker? its a map game about taking over the world, its literally the purpose of the game to take over the world *''look how many errors there are''* and yet people are not noticing it until they enable debug, sure vanilla should have 0 errors but these errors clearly are not doing anything major *''the game runs a lot slower''* havent noticed, i'd say it runs smoother. multiplayer works fine just fine too conclusion, this is all nitpicking with no substance, its okay to be upset at paradox's business model or be dissatisfied with the dlc but this is such a stretch
@@andret8423 the min max potential of too many researches is high yes but in general i dont think its fun to have to sacrifice a whole branch as a minor nation because i cant research the tech
I agree. One big issue is making 5 research slots impossible for certain dlc countries. IMO there should always be an option to get 5 research slots if you fulfill difficult condition like a ton of factories that is very hard to get. Every country should, if they conquer a bunch and build a bunch, get 5 research slots.
@@kubaszmuro4504 or at worst a few, which was the case before this came out, and most of errors were from ToA anyway, but again, you would get 10 errors, not 20 thousand or more
it isn't necessarily him using debug, he used debug to show the bugs that are behind the code and the causes of slow singleplayer and multiplayer gameplay. im sure that before the update, starting the game using debug only showed a few errors that weren't game breaking.
I don`t really get anything besides the errors with the new DLC. Like.. Besides errors with construction slots and "Haiti situation" its really just stupid. The rest of the video is too subjective and irrelevant to discuss. Damn paradox that they are making something for the "70%" community (also i don`t know where did you get those numbers) and not just something serious (there`s enough easter eggs before last 2-3 dlc) in your vision. Also i don`t really understand where did you get these secret knowledge of "the things from the mods and stuff in DLC" , even if its like that, is it bad or irrelevant or whatever that Paradox making something that community likes? I can get that you are pissed off about new changes in 8 year old game but idk, looks like just hate for hate. Besides optimization there`s nothing really relevant in this video with title "HOI4 is Dead." that would prove this.
And the optimization isn't too relevant because much of it involves late-middle to late game, and most games end by '44, '47 at the latest. Only people who play into the 50's and onwards are those with relatively expensive computers that can handle the poor optimization
I don't see the reason for criticising the focus trees, sure paradox can do better however modders are quite literally their competition which makes it extremely difficult for them to come up with original ideas. There is nothing that modders have not done in the 8 years the game has been released, just seemed like a weird half-baked attempt to throw shade and reinforce your other points.
So, seems like your problem is states having different names, austria having 2 meme focuses, hitler's portrait (I actually agree with this, previous was way better), and that bug with the decisions. How would HoI4 be dead, again?
1:20 I could be wrong, but I dont think you are supposed to unpause with the decisions.nocheck cheat on. "Omg, turning off checks for decisions caused the game to lag because there were no checks to the decisions!"
Question: What do you mean with "why is the ai pressing the decisions, thats not supposed to happen"? You literally deactivated ALL Triggers that would stop the ai from pressing them or did i just understand you wrong? Apart from that: Could not play the DLC yet, thanks for the spoilers XD
They're secret paths you still don't know how to get Liechtenstein in the map lmao, also there are some more secret paths, as for the AI he means it's doing unhistorical stuff in historically which I've notice to be true either way as Trotsky didn't get assassinated at all mexico civil wars fucks up the tree and germany can steal slovakia from any country that owns it without the other countries say, a good example is Austria Hungary Poland and Slovakia so all in all worse than the previous fate of chz
Typing this exact same command a patch ago didn't cause these issues, Im tinkering with commands all the time, I wouldn't mention this if it wasn't huge, which it is
@@sejozwak Is that so? I am modding for over 2 years now and the ai ALWAYS went ham when you typed the command? Cant imagine that they did not a few patches back because you remove every obstacle and condition to press a button to test it, also to test what happens if the ai has it. And yes maybe the yellow river thingy did not happen but thats because the nature of the decision: Every single country can press it as long as they hold the states, if you remove the condition every single ai will beginn smash buttons. And it only happens because the decision only exists for a few versions. EDIT: Maybe i understand you wrong but in my experience commands like decisions.nochecks or focus.nochecks would always result in ai doing focuses they are not supposed to do and basically trashing the game if you unpaused, so i dont get why this is mentioned when critizising the new DLC? I am also not a huge fan of some features (at least by looking at them, could not play yet) but i rly dont get the problem witrh the decisions in relation to the dlc - hopy you read this edit.
@@sejozwak I don't get it. I really don't. Why tf does it matter if the AI didnt do that in the previous versions????? In general, why even play with that? Im no expert, but maybe what they did is work on the AI to try and make it more flexible in non historical scenarios. What if USSR controls Czechoslovakia and the forts are there. Maybe now the AI will take the decision to dismantle them? I mean, idk exactly the inner workings of their code, but it could be a possibility that they are rolling out this kind of system where the AI has a more dynamic decision-making system. But you couldnt've possibly thought of that because most of your points in this video are in bad faith
Pal, that is happening even withouth the command. The way the AI seems to work based on that reaction to the command is that it constantly runs check on decisions, and if they're avalaible. Guess who is taking the toll for that one? Your PC which will just lag a shit lot
Actually yeah I agree, this feels like a mod, not a DLC. A pretty fun mod, but still a mod. I don’t mind stuff like getting a war goal on Haiti because you have the same flag in an easter egg path, but considering what the DLC cost I’m a bit disappointed. It’s good that you actually point out when something is slop even if it’s an unpopular opinion
Yeah, they even had the thingy pointing you at each brand of the german focus tree, something big mods like Kaisereich, TNO, Kaiseredux do. And the paths do all so allow a lot of memey shit, or the facilities allowing you thermonuclear in the early 40s withouth even rushing as the Deutsch.
@@TheTrueForbidden I am aware that it costs more then a mod, but like the guy said in his original comment, it’s still very fun so I don’t see why you have a problem paying for an experience that’s fun. Also, I still don’t get how it feels like a mod. Honestly the only reason people are saying it’s a mod is because it implements a lot of new mechanics, and people aren’t used to that yet. With time this dlc will feel more vanilla as we get used to it.
Then they should get better artists, I'm not paying 22 bucks for something that looks AI assisted, when mods like OWB, EAW, and so on have incredible portraits.
@@alejandropoczynokhhave you not seen the portraits in battle for bosporus? You call THESE bad? The Hitler protrait is literally just missing the iron cross
I mostly agree, this DLC is a big case of "jumping the shark" for the game. Core game mechanics are left neglected (overall AI logic really) but new unserious gimmicks are added which offer a very shallow gameplay experience. Other people have said it, but this DLC shows PDX is catering primarily to UA-camrs making corny, clickbait, content slop with this game as a skin.
I have Arms Against Tyranny Flashbacks. It was last year, the exact same issue. They release a DLC, they have NOT tested for bugs, they add meme stuff(the icebear, queen maude, etc..) and then after release it took them 2/3 months to fix all the issues they have with all the game rules, which stop applying for AI. This here is the exact same, but i doub they fix it in 5/6 Months, if they even try. Its not just pdx but the entire gaming market doing the same, pumping out updates and games for the deadline, even tho they dont work. Its sad for us customers, what we have to experience.
The thing is, complaints after complaints but when it comes people still buy it, if it's this enormous issue vote with your wallet, it's capitalism after all
@@boxcarz true, but my point is, and it applies to the whole gaming industry, that people complain but when a new trash product is released the same people hype it up and buy it
Ngl i think this video gets carried a bit too much by its emotions I get that you have issues with the dlc and some of the points might be valid, i dont think that the extra content is ever a bad thing because without it the base game would just feel like a skeleton that mod creators can use to build around, at some point then why even have a base game if no ones gonna play it yk? And i get that maybe now mods are a better alternative than the base game, im not gonna argue that the base game beats mods like kaiserreich in terms of sheer content and even enjoyability to a extent, but i find the efforts by the devs commendable for trying tonadd that flavor to the base game whilst still giving the option for the player to play historical with their own twist And thats i think my biggest criticism of this vid: it feels like you're treating hoi4 as this game thats meant to be serious when its not really trying to be? Hoi4 was never about trying to replicate real life historical conflict one for one and provide features for going into the nitty gritty of that, that just sounds like a really boring game idea after a while (at least in the format of hoi). Hoi4 was meant to be a game that allowed you to tell your own story within the confines of a ww2 simulation game, and im glad that theres wacky paths like the Liechtenstein one for austria or the romanov path for the poles. Would that have never happened in real life? Hell yeah. Does it make the game really fun and gets people excited to try out new nations in the base game? Also hell yeah! And you cant fault paradox for trying to make their game fun over making it historical because that was never their goal. Hoi4s premise was that you are in control from the start of your own destiny. Want to have germany conquer the entire world? You can do that. Wanna be able to join the war earlier as the US and defeat the axis fast, then go to war with the soviets? You have the ability to and you have since the game came out! I understand the critiques for the bugs and such, i do find it a little weird that youd base the bugs off of a debug cheat that purposefully lags the game down and makes ever decision possible pop up. Personally my games have been running better than ever, or at least comprorable to what they did in the past 2 dlc expansions, but i can see that paradox REALLY needs to playtest their games more before release of dlcs cause holy fuck there are some bugs Regardless though, hoi4s not dead and i dont see the game being any worse now than it has been when i first got it before the release of La resistance. I think frankly its improved and gotten more interesting and it couldnt have done that without the changes that occured in the base game, otherwise the playerbase would've definetely died out then. Are there improvements to be made on paradoxs end? Yes. Are there things to criticze about the game still that weren't mentioned in the video? Also yes, particulary the fact that the balance between major countries and minor coubtries and the complexy of their focus trees is insane, japan should not have a smaller tree than congo and not one thats like 5 times smaller than germanys or italys. Thats a big issue. And the pricing of the dlcs, because good lord they dont justify themselves especially when a dlc like no step back which added just as much if not more content to the game as gotterdamerung did costed far less. Thats a big issue too But hoi4s not dead, and i think the arguments you made in the vid are shaky at best. Hope i explained myself well and imaj dobar dan brate ✌️
in that time period with no more human beeings, emotions are getting still more important. bcause this is human (thus hatespeech is so important, bcause it is such an important emotion though)
There alot of problem with this DLC (and free update). To list of a few in my head - Tech bloat, extra research stuff for no real reason. - Severe balance issue, with how early you can get nuke, shit gonna be wild. - Unbalance focus tree, they went for quantity, not quality - bug (this is just to be expected) - for larper, questionable "history" for alt-history path, namely whitewash spartacus league ideology and no republic germany - This on is more macro then people realize, it make minor nation alot less fun to play due to all the restriction of being a weaker nation. It have the RT56 bloated content problem, except worse in balance somehow. - Mustacheless Stalin. The good part: - Better AI, they seem very different, liking it so far but need more testing - For me atleast, better optimization.
Meanwhile stellaris players still waiting for Paradox to fix weapon range and ship ai.for 3 years. Meanwhile Victoria 3 players waiting for the new community bugfix to drop. Meanwhile EU4 players still having nightmares about leviathan. It's not like new dlc droped and suddenly it's died. it died a long time ago.
How can you play hoi4 without larping? On that, is it okay in your opinion to larp as the ‘democratic’ United States or Britain. I agree with your take and I do think there is an obsessed group of young individuals whom need touch grass. But there’s a larger issue than just those people.
I 100% agree with you. Hoi4 is a bloated corpse after this DLC. But hey, at least congo has 2000 focuses that randomly make it the most powerful nation in the world and we have UFO motherships and landkreuzers like it's wolfenstein
To be honest it does feel like its a mod but what else do you want to have in hoi4 when basically everything that can be added is something that is possible with mods? Also this DLC expanded the possible gameplay to like the cold war era as we now have modern battleships, cruisers and other stuff. Also the fact that paradox didnt bugcheck it does make me feel a bit meh about the dlc because its a giant fucking corporation yet it cant do a simple task like that but other than that i do appreciate the fact that i can recreate realistic history in hoi4.

ok i amcompletly ou of words know, i'll try to share my disagreements now. -"the dlc is mid"- literally crushed any skepticism of mine about germany being a ripoff of mod focustrees, the inner circle mechanic is gold, the special projects are not amazing and i mostly ignore them but thats not bad, from there everyting is normal hoi4 focus. -whatever you did with decision.nochecks- thats a COMMAND *you are not suppsoed to press unpause* -"made by 15 years old"- hoi4 was never realistic, thats something that modders added, this is how hoi4 has allways been, just that early hoi4 had a massive lack of content and as such it was much more boring and simple. -optimization and mechanics- this should be improved, but we all know how paradox is, they are unlikely to ever changue this problems, you can still use console for this things, the problem is that this is not something that was promised for the dlc at all. -"hoi4 is dead"- i get that it can be furstrating to having dedicated so much that to this game to the point you are a master of the tecnical aspect, but bugs have allways been here, is how paradox is, most of the comunity already doesnt play vanilla ecept when there is new dlc- so becuse what you want to be corrected wasnt and the game is going trough a course you think is bad doesnt mean is dead,
Been saying this in private for a while, myself. Paradox, ever since Waking the Tiger, has been focused on flashy alt-history more and more, to the point where now, instead of needing mods like RT56 to have a fun ahist game, you need mods to have a sensible hist game. Paradox has been enshittifying their game since about 2019 in the name of quantity over quality and I'm glad a (relatively) big HOI4 UA-camr is talking about it.
Hard agree. You have to dig deep in order to find one or more mods that make lots of changes and add lots of stuff just in order to have a remotely enjoyable historical ww2 playthrough, in a game thats supposed to be about ww2
@@maximilianodelrio I think ultimately the problem boils down to two different outlooks on what "Non-historical" means. Up until WTT and even in WTT's Chinese trees, non-historical referred to outcomes both rooted in real events and/or ideologies and plausible enough to realistically succeed. A Communist or Fascist takeover in one or many of the British colonies? Entirely plausible, the world economy was messy and a combinaton of far-right ideas already being prominent in most western/western-dominated countries and the newcoming wave of populist sentiments starting around the late 1890s meant that any government in the Commonwealth could be suceptible to internal pressures. A different warlord gaining political power in China? Also entirely plausible, Cheng's rule was always tenuous in many places and many warlords were already finding more power and influence wherever they could. ... Waking the Tiger, however, pummeled this idea in the Japanese and German trees. I always, to an extent, respected that Germany didn't feature a true Communist path, as the devs felt it was both unnecessary and nonsensical. In a day and age where telling the consumer "no" is infrequent, the choice to give no unique path for a Communist Germany was a compelling move. But then, the devs went for a civil war path. Not a bad plan, Hitler's reign was never truly certain until shit had already hit the fan... but making a basically German kaiser fanboy route... that's ridiculous. And yet they did it. Similar can be said with Japan. A Communist takeover in their country would have been absurd... but they still put it in. These combined cemented the two biggest tropes for HOI4 DLCs: unrealistic meme paths that serve only to fill space in the focus tree screen (because having fucking Argentina with a bigger tree than Germany/France is insane) and constant civil wars for every country. Pretty much every country with a focus tree now has the option to delve into a civil war, and if you click non-hist focuses on, there's a pretty good chance about half of them will fire... WHY? In 2017, 2018 non-hist meant Britain invading Belgium or Russia invading the Middle East or France electing a right-wing leader that seeked non-interference with Germany, not nuking half the game's nations and hoping for the best. I sincerely hope the HOI4 devs realize that the civil war, shroom-induced lunacy update grind they've created for themselves is a harmful box to stay in, and soon come out, because quite frankly this business model gets less and less fun to play every single update. Call me a contrarian, but I liked the relatively limited trees of pre-update Italy and Russia. They were small by design, it left game direction in the hands of the player or AI, not the railroaded event chain. And while thr AI could certainly use more mechanics for incentives before just handing the game over to it, it isn't as though Paradox can't create that. EU4 and Vic2&3 both have mostly AI-based gameplay. Sure, it's not railroaded, but that's in large part from the huge numbers of tags and time periods covered. HOI4 has, if I remember right, 70(ish) starting tags. Is it really so impossible for Paradox to make working trade and financial systems that give the AI real incentives to build functional civillian and military economies, as well as expand influence and borders to suit said economies? Of course not, Paradox makes it a point of EU4 and Vic2/3 that the AI CAN do that independent of railroading. It's absolutely ridiculous.
@@HAKX5 I don't agree with the Italy and Russia part, as a man who had those fiendish focus paths for years as i had the game via piracy and couldn't update those paths weren't funny, and the more serious path of current Russia are quite great.
I kinda don't get your point of bad optimization. You used a debug command and are confused why the game is lagging? decision.nochecks as the name suggests skips all the requirements for the decisions to be available, including the historical/ahistorical one, fires_only_once etc. What did you expect it would do? This command is meant for testing not actual gameplay. The AI also does not "click" on these deicisions all the time as long as its not available. The game runs much smoother now than it did before the update. In terms of new content being stolen from mods (mine included heh) its just classic paradox. All in all I think this DLC really brought new life to hoi thanks to the research rework and QOL like the name changing.
All this from a company whos business strategy is to release an empty, borderline unpalaybe in a vanilla game then add content and features that should have been present at launch with an extra 60 dollar price tag. Why are surprised?
Some things I really dislike the most about the new DLC: -Poland willingly gives up HALF of their country to Kaiser Germany ONLY for “guarantees.” I understand doing alt-history, but this doesn't look like something that could even be possible. I swear they made ai almost always say yes to those focuses; I'm pretty sure it was to make Germany players feel strong. And Germany gets to CORE all of those states, including places like Łódź, which are 1000% Polish. Without the game showing mass deportations or other atrocities, this just looks silly. Similar oddities can be found in other parts of this new DLC. -From what I know, you can't use nukes with tactical bombers anymore - this just killed the only thing that made me kind of like tactical bombers. I like doing them as this universal plane that can do ground attack, naval attack, strategic bombing AND nuking. Now close air support is just better in any way possible. -New raid mechanic feels kind of useless. The damage it does is not enough to repay the absurdly long time it takes to do one. Waiting 3 months just to send some bombers to do their job is silly. -Entire new German focus tree looks like it was made with wehraboos in mind.

@agamer81 I looked between the new and old Hitler portrait and they look very similar in terms of the mustache argument for the new one being AI generated. I don't think the new one is better, but it doesn't look like it's AI.
They have an in-house portrait artist and had her paint I think it was like 5 or 6 leader portraits, but they handed the MOST IMPORTANT ONE to AI? I do not think so
I’m gonna sound like a salty larper here but I don’t really get the point and think you’re being a bit dramatic. On every release there is always a ton of bugs because paradox wants to pump out money just like any company. This is however not a long term issue since this will most likely be fixt within a few months? I don’t really see this as an issue that will kill the game. Secondly paradox games aren’t meant to be bastions of historical relevancy where the objective is to strategise and let people larp as military generals. Since very early on you have been able to do silly things like restore the HRE which is way beyond the realm of possibility in the 1940s. Nothing has really change and you’re saying that Hoi is going to die just because your idea of the game is changing? Edit: I also don’t really understand your point on “this isn’t supposed to happen on historical” you literally used console commands?
@@sejozwak again, yea you’re right, but that’s a temporary issue that comes as a result of greedy game developers. I don’t really see how that makes the game dead?

@@adept2134 Mate, it affects it because its the code defining it all, if the AI is constantly trying to use new decisions that means its constantly running checks for new decisions and checks to see if they're avalaible or not, which in turns means a shit lot of lag even in normal games withouth using console commands.

Very manipulative to make it seem like the errors are constantly happening in the background by not sufficiently explaining what the command you're using does. The extra errors only appear while the testing command decision.nochecks is turned on, which disables all checks that prevent a decision from being taken. Yes, yes, it didn't do that before this update, but how can anyone possibly argue that a console command meant primarily for testing should've been top priority in bugfixing, and how can anyone possibly argue that this is a huge optimization problem for someone playing the game properly?
To speak on mods, do you plan on uploading any more modded content? Paradox is pushing them harder and harder and helping big mods like TNO and EaW update day one. While I may disagree with every single one of your points in this video, I still think you upload great stuff 👍
I think this is just their (PDX) strategy at this point, across all of their games. Leviathan flashbacks. The fact that they want people to buy the expansion pass, which is almost twice the price of the dlc for stuff that won’t be released for like a year and will almost definitely be just as buggy…

but like why you mad that you can play hitler in a ww2 game

It's WW2 It's going to get extreme. But before Peru has more focuses then Germany. Also sejo is right about the lag, bugs & research slots.
And use of AI
At that point, they might as well just make a HOI5.
🐐🌲🌳

Decision.nochecks didn't do that before iirc.
I see no issue with that whatsoever
Also obviously when you type a command in the console it will do something weird, you're not supposed to it during a normal playthrough (and I'm pretty sure if you did that before it would also spam you with 'Panama canal blown' and 'Panama canal repaired' so it's not like it's a new thing)
I mean the content added is good its just launch bugs that probably get fixed in a hotfix.

One example of a good argument(only one) is the optimization, but even that argument is not valid if you link it to the rest of the video if it is the potimization than it is not a case of hoi4 being a zombie because this is fixable, and paradox has shown us they can fix it. It’s probably genuine
The filler content (renaming stuff) is just kinda pointless and it’s a small change that people wouldn’t notice
It also kinda seems that there won’t be much more updates and dlcs (why it’s dying).

Most alt-hist paths used to just give you a war goal just because; thats that, but now it looks like paradox is making it more interesting with events and crises. Bro is raging at the Hitler portrait 😂
This feels like a ragebait.
The main issue is the overlapping focuses creating bugs, and the obviously "inspired" content from free mods being the large part of the DLC. I've found the actual mechanics, like ministers for Germany are quite good, but not enough. Also, this being the meme update just signals a creative death, same as with movie genres.
the way AI handles decisions was changed in this update to encourage modders to implement more complex decisions systems, which is why it behaves differently
even then i dont see why you should be complaining when this issue is EXCLUSIVE to decision.nochecks, something that no sane human being would ever enable outside of testing
*''formables arent supposed to be made on historical''* non issue, i dont see how that kills the game and is simply flavour
*''the code is from mods''* if something works, use it! why bother remaking something if the optimal solution already exists?
*''the hitler portrait is AI generated''* no it is not, and this is such a reach. there are no signs of AI art anywhere in the portrait and i'd say its because of the limited resolution of hoi4 portraits
*''there are stupid paths''* its a game, games should be fun, these paths are fun
*''why do these states have the same building slots''* balance, simply balance
*''you cant tell the infrastructure from far away''* theres a trick to bypass this, its called zooming in and seeing the infrastructure levels from the tooltip...
*''the special projects seem cartoonish''* this is by far the most realistic feature added in this update, and it is cartoonish? facilities and special projects exist in reality...
*''they added more research''* yes it has become bloated, minor nations struggle keeping up with all the research and i think this is a valid point that needs addressing
*''civil war wasnt reworked''* people hate civil wars in hoi4, they ruin your early game and just arent enjoyable, so why overcomplicate the german civil war?
*''if they go democratic nothing happens in the world''* they go democratic on unhistorical if not player controlled, which would cause global chaos if enabled. if a player goes democratic germany and then proceeds to do nothing, that is on them
*''theres a lot of bugs''* shocker, just like any software on the planet
*''this dlc caters to extremists''* the implication here is that you prefer nations dont get fun world conquest focuses and instead run out of content way quicker? its a map game about taking over the world, its literally the purpose of the game to take over the world
*''look how many errors there are''* and yet people are not noticing it until they enable debug, sure vanilla should have 0 errors but these errors clearly are not doing anything major
*''the game runs a lot slower''* havent noticed, i'd say it runs smoother. multiplayer works fine just fine too
conclusion, this is all nitpicking with no substance, its okay to be upset at paradox's business model or be dissatisfied with the dlc but this is such a stretch

I agree. One big issue is making 5 research slots impossible for certain dlc countries. IMO there should always be an option to get 5 research slots if you fulfill difficult condition like a ton of factories that is very hard to get. Every country should, if they conquer a bunch and build a bunch, get 5 research slots.

I don`t really get anything besides the errors with the new DLC. Like.. Besides errors with construction slots and "Haiti situation" its really just stupid. Damn paradox that they are making something for the "70%" community (also i don`t know where did you get those numbers) and not just something serious (there`s enough easter eggs before last 2-3 dlc) in your vision.
Can't tell if this video is a giant joke or not.
I lost it when he said, if you want more content download mods, like bro it's a dlc

@@sejozwak I don't get it. I really don't. Why tf does it matter if the AI didnt do that in the previous versions????? In general, why even play with that? Maybe now the AI will take the decision to dismantle them? I mostly agree, this DLC is a big case of "jumping the shark" for the game. Core game mechanics are left neglected (overall AI logic really) but new unserious gimmicks are added which offer a very shallow gameplay experience. Other people have said it, but this DLC shows PDX is catering primarily to UA-camrs making corny, clickbait, content slop with this game as a skin.
In my german playthroughs france keeps going communist on historical, so I made sure they wouldn't, they turned monarchist instead

Ngl i think this video gets carried a bit too much by its emotions
I get that you have issues with the dlc and some of the points might be valid, i dont think that the extra content is ever a bad thing because without it the base game would just feel like a skeleton that mod creators can use to build around, at some point then why even have a base game if no ones gonna play it yk? And i get that maybe now mods are a better alternative than the base game, im not gonna argue that the base game beats mods like kaiserreich in terms of sheer content and even enjoyability to a extent, but i find the efforts by the devs commendable for trying tonadd that flavor to the base game whilst still giving the option for the player to play historical with their own twist
And thats i think my biggest criticism of this vid: it feels like you're treating hoi4 as this game thats meant to be serious when its not really trying to be?
Personally my games have been running better than ever, or at least comprorable to what they did in the past 2 dlc expansions, but i can see that paradox REALLY needs to playtest their games more before release of dlcs cause holy fuck there are some bugs
Regardless though, hoi4s not dead and i dont see the game being any worse now than it has been when i first got it before the release of La resistance. Thats a big issue too
But hoi4s not dead, and i think the arguments you made in the vid are shaky at best. Hope i explained myself well and imaj dobar dan brate ✌️

There alot of problem with this DLC (and free update). To list of a few in my head
- Tech bloat, extra research stuff for no real reason.
- Severe balance issue, with how early you can get nuke, shit gonna be wild.

-whatever you did with decision.nochecks- thats a COMMAND *you are not suppsoed to press unpause*
-"made by 15 years old"- hoi4 was never realistic, thats something that modders added, this is how hoi4 has allways been, just that early hoi4 had a massive lack of content and as such it was much more boring and simple.
-optimization and mechanics- this should be improved, but we all know how paradox is, they are unlikely to ever changue this problems, you can still use console for this things, the problem is that this is not something that was promised for the dlc at all.
-"hoi4 is dead"- i get that it can be furstrating to having dedicated so much that to this game to the point you are a master of the tecnical aspect, but bugs have allways been here, is how paradox is, most of the comunity already doesnt play vanilla ecept when there is new dlc-
so becuse what you want to be corrected wasnt and the game is going trough a course you think is bad doesnt mean is dead,
Been saying this in private for a while, myself.
Thank you for your input Hakx, I agree with you

Some things I really dislike the most about the new DLC:
-Poland willingly gives up HALF of their country to Kaiser Germany ONLY for “guarantees.” I understand doing alt-history, but this doesn't look like something that could even be possible.
The Poland thing was there since Waking the Tiger

Except that didn't break AI before.
@@KirbyKitten just the usual game opener:
-select a focus
-research engineering
-exercise divisions
-go into console commands and type in “decisions.nochecks”
-construct infrastructure
Hoi4 is a zombie. A zombie doesn't know what it's doing, but it still goes on
A serious game is the last thing HoI4 is right now, and it's obviously not trying to present itself that way either
ngl this is a bad take and most people will agree with me in that this is one of if not the best DLC to ever come out, you make a bold claim the art is AI gen which isn't true, and then get upset when the AI freaks out when using console commands. I don't really see the point in this video.
The Adolf Art DOES actually like ai generated, it has the right sort of 'look' to make it that way.
Just keep the old one, it looks nice!
@MCCamels Whether or not the old one looks good or not, saying its AI generated with no proof is not a good thing to say.
Modders that I've spoken to have said that they're at least A.I. assisted, even though Paradox vehemently denies these claims.
@agamer81 I looked between the new and old Hitler portrait and they look very similar in terms of the mustache argument for the new one being AI generated. I don't think the new one is better, but it doesn't look like it's AI.
This shit is obviously ai generated, thats why hitler doesnt look like hitler and his coat is warped
They have an in-house portrait artist and had her paint I think it was like 5 or 6 leader portraits, but they handed the MOST IMPORTANT ONE to AI? I do not think so
I edge to your videos
I edge to your comments

Is it just me or does most of the generic scientist portraits look AI generated?
they are ai generated
@@SKYENREUPLOADY No they aren't
Can you sing Bosanska Artilerija next?
80% of your arguments are cries over small things bro
It didn't happen prior even with console commands, theres some serious issues with core code of hoi4 now
@@sejozwak again, yea you’re right, but that’s a temporary issue that comes as a result of greedy game developers. I don’t really see how that makes the game dead?
@@sejozwak I'm confused how this affects the game. Just don't use console commands?
he doesent really explain it well but his point is that now the ai, despite being on historical, is checking every single tick to see if they can form a nation, reducing performance
@@adept2134 Mate, it affects it because its the code defining it all, if the AI is constantly trying to use new decisions that means its constantly running checks for new decisions and checks to see if they're avalaible or not, which in turns means a shit lot of lag even in normal games withouth using console commands.
which version will you revert to? im thinking about doing same thing too
You can larp Lebensraum now, but still no warcrime button
Almost like they are indirectly denying it all, you know, almost
@@sejozwak get real bro if they added the Holocaust then the game would no longer be PEGI 7 and they'd lose out on sales.
@sejozwak War crimes are represented by occupation laws, and this dlc literally made it explicit Germany is looting enemy nations. Outside of a POW policy, there's little more they could add other then "press x to gas jews".
@@sejozwak Not having war crimes doesn't mean they are denying their existence, the fuck?
Why do I get the feeling that if they added the holocaust as a mechanic you’d complain?
7:00 it's always bothered me a little that Mexican states aren't named or divided properly, given that they actually are in victoria and other paradox games
Who cares if you can play hitler its a ww2 game dude
Imagine if Austria could get a Habsburg on the Spanish throne and you could unite and bring back the Habsburg territories (Austria, chunks of Germany, Most of Italy, the Benelux, Spain and it's colonies, ect.)
Rarted takes
Very manipulative to make it seem like the errors are constantly happening in the background by not sufficiently explaining what the command you're using does. The extra errors only appear while the testing command decision.nochecks is turned on, which disables all checks that prevent a decision from being taken.
Yes, yes, it didn't do that before this update, but how can anyone possibly argue that a console command meant primarily for testing should've been top priority in bugfixing, and how can anyone possibly argue that this is a huge optimization problem for someone playing the game properly?
The Focus is hidden with Haiiti, it shows up when you become Lichtenstein
It was already over when you could core all the balkans as bulgaria
Not sure if it was the end but yeah, agree, balkans would never unite that easy and successfully.
I noticed this last night. I was seeing dlc decisions when i don’t even own it
Same to... İts normal
Personally I see no problem with all of China wanting to divide the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.
We are not passing to hearts of iron 5 with problems like these ones (of course its paradox so they might just dont even care about it)
Half of it can get fixed, half of it is stupid fun, but still not worth the money
Yeah they did everyone the dirty, if it aleast was the average price it could even be kinda passable, but fuckin' double the ussual.
@@KirbyKitten fr its many times as expensive as base game was when i bought it
@@wrtekcz538 It costs half of the game's base price : ☠️☠️☠️
I got key elsewhere cheaper bruh@@KirbyKitten
@wrtekcz538 I mean i ain't buying shit, don't even have goddamn la resistance. But on steam base prices that thing is going ham.
well "dead" is a big word i think it will be alright in a few patches ( i agree the portrait is off)
Mate, what he essentially means by that is that while this DLC is still mid, this formula will simly go on towards an absolute decay till the game just full on dies.
But bro, you can play as Eva Braun now!!

@@ZootOfficial he didnt just mentioned the bugs. He was crying over EVERYTHING. "waaaahaaaah you can do silly path as Austria". "waaaahaaah I dont like new Hitler portrait and you shouldnt too"
@@Benedykt__Chmielowski i mean, the focus threes have been scheisse for a while (their concept in general makes the game more scripted and artificial). IDK about the new portraits. But his main point was bugs and optimisation.
All of this for 24,99€. What a steal... for real.
I tried playing one game in Ironman and the performance was absolutely horrible. each every in game week it would autosave, which i always thought was only once a month, but now these autosaves took like 5-7 seconds, so every 20 seconds the game would freeze. 1/5 of the game was just staring at the frozen screen. paradox really needs to fix this.
I noticed also all sorts of saves are super slow now, I usually save with console and it takes 5 seconds instead of usual about 1 or 2
