06:24 Where To Buy A Folding Piano
Designed in partnership with Blackstar Amplification (just a slight change from their usual awesome guitar amps!), the Carry-On 88 is a very unique, cleverly designed, full-size electronic piano that folds up to a quarter of its size for easy transportation and storage.
Supplied in the box is the keyboard itself, a mini sustain pedal, USB cable for charging the internal battery and a tote bag to carry everything around in. Definitely not a flimsily made toy piano, the keyboard is constructed from a combination of plastic and a metal back plate, giving it a very sturdy feel, and the well-engineered hinges and heavy-duty braided cabling ensures that the keyboard won't wear out or break as it is repeatedly folded and unfolded.
The keys are full size with a faux-ivory texture, just like a real piano, it features built in speakers easily loud enough to accompany a singer, and the rechargeable battery offers up to 8 hours playing time with an auto power shut off after 30 minutes of the keyboard not being played.
Features include 128 internal sounds, including pianos, organs, strings, brass, sound effects and much more, there's 128 backing accompaniments and drum rhythms, an adjustable metronome and a transpose mode. A headphone socket allows for near-silent practice, and the usb connection is used for charging the battery or to send MIDI note information to a computer.
The perfect keyboard for beginners to learn the basics on, the Carry-On 88 is also ideal for portable practice, rehearsals, songwriting and jamming, where taking a real piano would be totally impractical...so take a quick look and listen here with PMTVUK, and try one for yourself at your nearest Professional Music Technology store...

Everyone seems turned off by the lack of pressure sensitivity but this is perfect for me as an intermediate guitarist who primarily wants to learn notes, chords, and theory.

Hey there, just wanted to share my thoughts. I went to guitar lessons for 9 years and after that, got my master in classical music theory. So you can say that I am somewhat of a more advanced musician. I once bought a cheap keyboard without touch sensitivity and it was a big mistake. You really get annoyed because usually with my guitar, I have unlimited freedom of how loud or soft I can play. That is not the case with the piano. So just a heads u!

@@mryman3656Just got an ad on instagram for this, but now it has touch sensitivity. Was looking at a review tho. I have a keylabs midi, so this is most definitely a downgrade, but 1 I need my studio open to use it and 2, it's not full sized

The second version needs: velocity sensing, a port for using a real sustain pedal (not having to use an adapter), a 61 key version, a protective carrying case, more and better piano sounds and less clackity sounding keys.
I'd pay more for those features.

from engineering standpoint it doesnt matter when recording the music the issue with velocity is only for live music i dont even believe the intentions of this keyboard is to play a live set lol but to be able to fold out and play is awesome and could at least record a rough draft

@@MistaMatt I get the impression this is for practicing/possibly recording while traveling. If you're trying to practice piano on the road and you don't have velocity sensitivity (when you want it), you're missing a big part of practice. And with the full 88 keys, it's a bummer that such a big part was left out

Thank you for your nice review of this folding piano.
I've owned a keyboard and a digital piano in the past, but I'm just not serious enough to actually learn to play.
Furthermore, I no longer have room to put a permanent keyboard in my apartment.
However, because I sing as a tenor in a gospel choir, I find it useful to have a simple piano/keyboard to practice my part on.
That's why I think this is a really great solution that, in addition to practicing, I can also have fun with when I have time to play around.
I can easily store this in a chest or take it with me in my backpack when I go somewhere or to practice elsewhere with my choir mates.

If you play organ or synthesizer, the lack of touch sensitivity is far less important, especially if you play with a band. Most of the voices are GREAT and very usable in live performance. If you want to use this to learn piano dynamics as a student, buy something else. If you are a pro musician pressed for space when playing live, this is a godsend.

A few months ago I came across v2 of the Folding Piano 88. It does have some velocity soft & loud control... not continuous but in steps. the keyboard cost around $100 more than the older version without the velocity control. The keys still fell cheap & plasticky. For the purpose of travelling seems to be sufficient.
As a student learning to play it's not a great instrument but when you're out of town and have no access to a piano, even a cheap keyboard is better than nothing at all.

Great vid! Could you please tell also, how did you manage to make it work as midi? My pc don't see it, so I assume it is not pug-and-play device(

I'm having trouble with making it work as a midi too, I'm guessing it needs some adapter maybe but not sure which one

I got one for Christmas. I have a real piano but due to the little space in my appartement I couldn't take it with me. It's really weird at first. The black notes being this flat and short, the pressure that isn't detected, the sound of the notes of course and the clicking of the plastic when I play. Overall quite a weird feeling. But I hope I can get used to so that I can practice and learn new peace :)

This looks interesting. If it had velocity sensitive keys I would probably get one so I can use it for portability and also as a potential MIDI controller or at least to record music. Being foldable it would make it easy to store as I'm already lacking space. How difficult would it be for Blackstar to actually incorporate velocity sensitivity into future versions? Or would that make it bigger and bulkier?

Can anyone explain to me how to patch the MIDI from Carry On Piano to software instruments in Logic? I'm confused as to why it is coming up as the built-in sound on the Carry On and not the patch that I specified in Logic.
