I gotta ask: during landing aproach, when should the wings of the Reliant be put in the horizontal configuration? I usually turn them after the re-entry flames disapear... so I fly a 'monowing air-/spacecraft' long before I get in range of the port...
If we're judging for a cinematic landing, I think you gotta give a 10/10 to the Hornet piloted by the guy in a prison suit. I mean he came in fast, lands hard, and then books it for the elevator as we lose track of him with the hangar doors closing. Epic! Cinematic! Tells a story! 10/10
That was definitely me in the Cutlass at 22:55. I had my Pembroke suit on ready to go ROC mining on Aberdeen. I have been practicing my "cinematic" take-offs just because of you.
Last night, I was landing my Corsair at A18...put on VTOL, raised the wings, gear still up. Approached the vertical hangar opening and commenced the ALT+mousewheel to get a smooth descent. It was going to be beautiful. At that moment, in a lapse of awareness of what I was doing (having only recently learned about the thrust limiter use), I decided to go to external view -- while still holding ALT+mousewheel. 😅 The ship was stored when I logged back in; so either it was instantly stored when I closed out or it managed to make a slow descent with the reduced thrust after my departure.
19:30 You should subtract points from CIG for that reclaimer. If I were him, I'd do the exact same thing and not risk crashing back down into the hangar just to get the little feet retracted. lol
i think it was my dark c2 with the scan, def have this channel in mind doing daytime, but that said, nothing beats the feeling of nailing a landing. you should do a top 5 best and 5 worst after each season to recap the best and worst of the season, maybe even do a little give away to the best landing of the season.
I enjoy these videos, as I'm the type of person who watches planes land and take off since I stopped flight training doing circuits training in my Cessna 172 Skyhawk, which I truly miss.

I use go to the local intl airport with my son and watch the planes takeoff and land, its crazy how interesting and entertaining it is to watch this, thank you, please keep doing these 😊

At least you missed me and a friend earlier. My friend cut off a nacelle on the front of his Valkyrie, hit a building, and got stuck on the roof. I had to rescue him with my 400i
I love this series so much, but I'm glad that I'm not featured on it yet. My frequent skids across the hangar decks at New Babbage in my Buccaneer would horrify most people 😅
it is a lot of fun to have a smooth take off and landings I didn't even know auto land was a thing.. I mean I get it, can be the hardest part of the game sometimes, but the satisfaction of a tight landing...
An IceBreak Vulture landing and a Mole taking off, that may well have been me when I bought my Mole. Didn't know for a while that the Vulture had VTOL, but I have been using it since I found out. And whether it was me or wasn't, it may well have been that Mole's first flight, that would be the main reason for a Mole to be leaving Lorville. :)
Dude, ever since finding your channel, I've been hoping you'll catch me take-off and/or landing at some point. I've gotten pretty good over the years with my landings, especially to make them cinematic, and I can only hope you'll catch Luckdragon2000 doing his best to impress. My landings are not perfect nor always cinematic all the time by any means, but I'm always trying and always attempting to have take-offs and landings look and feel as realistic as possible. (11:35) The Mole was brand new, first time takeoff. Found out you can't go uncoupled with the landing gear up (you can just see it at the beginning as I slammed the gear back down), so that was uncoupled to peak, coupled at peak and gear up as I raised the nose, that is what you saw by your angle as a delay then throttle up and VTOLS pulled up at the same time. Not bad for first takeoff in that ship, I will take it.
VTOL modes may not be that important now, but when they implement the new atmospheric flight model and thruster changes it'll become much more important for landing/launching.
VTOL may technically not be necessary right now, but it will be when the new flight model gets introduced. Highly recommend everyone get used to using it before the crashes and engine fires start.
Its not that the gear is tied to VTOL on reclaimer, its that raising the gear swaps to forward VTOL and you have to manually put it back, which at low altitude is a quick way to hit the ground before you can get them rotated back.
I think I was that mole at 11mins? I'd bought it in-game mere moments before this! First time flying it, just glad I didn't smack it around too much leaving. 😅
i almost thought you cought me with that Reclaimer .. i did take off multiple times from that exact hangar and i have the exact same one .. but i have named it differently and i always retract gears in the hangar while waiting for the doors to fully open :P
I have always tried to learn beautiful landings, but since I have seen one of your videos I have put a lot of effort in. Maybe I'm a always bit paranoid you might be watching xD
The reason i pop gear early is if you get a 30k or other computer problem, you're already considered landed after you call atc. When you sign in again, it should be there.

alot of that debris around lorville came from cargo ships crashing to desktop on approach. From 3.19 through early 3.22 about half my attempts to land on a planet ended in a crash to desktop.
I actually started doing my landings in first person and could never get the hang of it... gauging distance is quite difficult imo. Even though I bumped the back end a few times when I first switched to 3rd person view (and/or when 'learning' a new ship), my landings are way smoother in 3rd person... plus i like the view as well.
I mostly play to do cinematic landings and takeoffs, i keep my speed low as i lift off, usually before doors are open and gear is up while i wait for the doors, then i slowly increase speed out/up, adding some forward and pitch increasing thrust as i disengage vtol. its gotta look good.
I hope I end up on here some day! I take pride in my TO and landings. :D I do the ol' 90 degree space shuttle launch and when coming in for landing I like to come in hot. lol o7
There was a bug, not sure if it was fixed, but vtol does affect boast up, but only when the gear is down If you pull in the gear then the thrust from the vtols actually gets less, I know it weird, but the number show it
VTOLs on the Reclaimer are too underpowered even in boost mode when taking off from a planet. You have to be in gear down mode all the time or you will slowly lose altitude. I usually leave the Reclaimer in gear down mode adding some boost to insure I keep gaining altitude to about 18 to 20 km before going gear up. If I try and do a nose up fly off with gear up the ship will lose altitude. That's to be accepted as a feature of the Reclaimer, not a bug. The Reclaimer is not intended to do most of its work on planets. Just moons and space.
Thoughts on allowing an exception for the early landing gear deployment. Those of us still flying w/ MnK rely on vector hold mode to make our approach as smooth as possible.
One exception on lowering gear below the air shield is the Corsair. I like to gear up which also folds the wings in at the same time. It is possible to wold the wings and then gear down once passed the air shield. What do you think is the better way?
Fold the wings separately. Gear comes last minute, depending on your speed, I still start to lower the gear before entering the hangar, because with high speed landings it barely makes it in time anyway.
I land almost exclusively in 3rd person, but I've learned how to make minute adjustments to both the camera and the ship almost simultaneously. Granted I only play on the AUS servers, so I'm not likely to wind up in one of these vids with my Valkyrie.
I disagree with your assessment of that gladius. It landed almost zero'd in with the front landing gear on the center. That was smooth and seemed intentional. I'd give it a 9.5.

Stop being this way then that way. In one instance you say "you have all the time in the world", and then you take off points for it. Next, you say the criteria: vtols, gear and no hesitation. Not one word that the landing must be centered. I, for one, try to get my nose closer to the elevators, which results in an off-center landing.

Spent the end of last week mapping my HOTAS, my landings are now as graceful as a swan!
For some reason a take off and landing competition sounds fun.
You should have an organized competition! Especially in low gravity, decoupled, we could put on quite the show.

the mole was looking for the warp point thats all big ships have to hover to find the spot

All thruster types, vtol, main or retro, they are all too powerfull and too perfect. It feels uncanny and wrong.

Landing in 3:rd person is cheating, so I do not count that as a landing at all.

For anyone flying the Crusader Spirit a waver should be given until larger hangars are available.
