"You wanna season your list with Artillery"
Me with 25 Basilisks
Very nearly enough.
@@stevenschnepp576 its not enough until I say its enough
Not nearly suitable
Me with 5k points of guard still watching this:
Same. I have about 120 guardsmen with every flavor of special weapons and still here.
I'm with you 2, 26 vehicles 12 infantry squads just over 5k still watching 👀 I've not got any abhumans or flyers so maybe aim for 7,5k from January
Also here with leman russ company, artillery company, masses of infantry, auxilia and 3 valkyries 2 vultures and 1.5 superheavy baneblade companys
Still making up a shopping list
Same with 10k points of guard lol
17k last time I added it up.
golden rule: Buy what you like, but restrain yourself. Going to 2000p is in no way mandatory, nor is it a race.
buy, build, prime, play.
paint what you liked.
expand on what you enjoy. sell what you dislike.
If your planning on getting both a manticore and deathstrike in the deaths box use the 4 manticore missile parts that attach to the vehicle (with a little cutting off of extra fins) to build the bottom of the big missiles, then with the spares from your manticore box you've got 2 big missiles and 4 small to play 1 of each missile tank or 2 deathstrikes
One suggestion i have is maybe have a picture in the background as your talking about it, i dont know if it would help anyone else but for me itd help just being able to vissually see the thing your talking about to stay on track., great video nonetheless
Great video, I just got my Cadia Stands kit and a new Warhammer player, this is one of the best and clear videos for my path forward. Really appreciate you.
If you're getting some of the older infantry don't worry too much about not getting all the special weapons you'll no doubt have a couple spares from the cadian stands box set not to mention you could probably ask around your gaming group as old-school marine or Horus heresy players usually have plenty of spare plasma and melta guns floating around and are easily converted onto your guardsmen
Wait hasn’t the units in Cadia stands just become the combat patrol?
Good advice. I have been planning on getting Cadia Stands for a bit and have been painting cool stuff that isn't gonna get updated. So far, 1 unit of Ogryn, 3 Chimeras, 1 Leman Russ. Currently working on my 2nd Leman Russ and should get Cadia Stands soon.
Glad to find this pretty much aligns with my thinking on how I've been expanding in anticipation of the box - a leman russ, two chimeras, the Kasrkin kill team, vet infantry dkok, a commissar, and a basilisk with Gaunt's Ghosts for flavor
Get painting 100+ infantry over with first. Auto wounds on 6 to hit is so good with First Rank Fire, Second Rank Fire.
Better yet they got a strat that for a unit you can make it a 5 up auto wound.
i stopped playing 40k when i had a child - getting back into it since the beginning of 7th edition and I always wanted to do IG errr Astra Militarum. Waiting for this set to get delivered to my place and with all the rule changes since i took my break this video is fantastic. Thank you!
If you can get a hold of a lot of weapons bits cheap or you have a 3D printer, most Warlord Games Bolt Action troop boxes come with 30 infantryman and cost about 50 bucks or less if you look around for sales. Great if you want to fill a custom army cheap and quick or just like kitbashing in general.
Me raking my 2nd, 3rd and 4th edition guard out of the cupboard of doom. My next purchase after this will be 2 more combat patrol boxes and a Rogal Down when they appear.
So triple Cadia Stands! 😍
Just gonna count up my lists new points level and see how many points I've got painted now! 😇
Are there different ways to build out a 500point army? Or army compositions that are better against specific armies?
I had an old leman russ lying around and had bought the kriegs kill team for my ork army, so now that i bought the Cadia stands box i was thinking about going combat patrol-->rogal dorn and some karskin for my next purchase as i love those new models. Then i'm thinking a third sentinel and a leman russ and i'll have a kind of decent army already. Maybe i'll think about more infantry and a chimera then
I saw a video of building the new sentinel kit and it looks like it can be both armored or scout with no magnets required
Can't wait to see you take a Rogal Dorn into a battle! 💥💥
Don't forget about the DKoK Mars Alpha Pattern Leman Russ. Even if it doesn't have rules it's by far the best looking Russ in the game, especially with the Ryza Pattern Turret. If money isn't a thing, I'd suggest getting those. They have a Demolisher turret too.
Thanks for this because I have no current concept on how to expand much less play a guard army
Edit: first by 30 seconds
How thick is your wallet ?
What style do you like ?
Do you want to future proof yourself ?
Are you wanting run 1 or 2 detachments ?
1) 120 to 300 troops , ( pure infantry 300 + )
2) 2 command squads and 1 officer . The "new" Creed and / or Castilian
3) 3 tanks , 2 Demolishers and 1 regular Russ if playing Cadian ( magnetize tanks or buy 9ish )
4) 3 mortar teams
5) 2 Basilisks and / or Manticores ( I'm not sold by new HY weapons teams , they seem fragile )
6) 3 Chimeras , if you like Steel legion / Mechanized 8ish
7) 3 Sentinels , 3 armored and / or 3 scout until you know the style you play . Then 9 /18 could be fun and really mess with opponent 9 /18 Scouts redeploying or Armored running around like plasma gunned mini Knights ( 5 or so practice games before you finish them )
8) all of the advisors ( command squad attachments ) and 2 Commissars
9) Abhumans ? at least full squad of Bulgrn , Orgrn and Ratlings ( next chapter approved they might become awesome )
10) 1 squad ( at least ) each of Scions and Karskains
11) 2 Valkyries ( nice distractions for enemy and think of them as fast Chimeras ) Rockets and door gunners
12) buy lots and lots of rare earth little magnets ( Have they pulled all the iron out of your blood ? if no. then you don't have enough of them )
and that is just starting to touch what a Guard Army needs . Forge World has some nice "toys"
Our problem is next FAQ or Chapter Approved will change what you will need . At the moment ? Mechanized seems to be best , but will that be the same when 10th edition comes out ? Unlikely
@@rodneygaul2227 I might just stick to Imperial and Chaos Knights as my main army's lol
@@americankid7782 2 Xmas boxes of knights and a new army :).
Sadly the Imperial Guard , yes I'm a long beard , is the most expensive army if you are future proofing as "we" have so many options .
Imperal Guard are an Army of love with need of deep pockets and/or years to accumulate . I personally have 3 regiments , BUT I have been collecting since 1998 ( Cadian , Elysian and Vostroyain . 2 of which are out of production )
The bring back of rough riders are an example . Fragile but hit like a truck on steroids . I have x2 10 man units of medal /plastic back when they sucked ( old Bretonion Knight horses with cadian Vox caster heads )
I keep all of them in an old Craftsmen roll around tool box with a dollie cart bolted on as some places have stairs ( all models magnetized to stay in place ) Storage is hyper important and over looked
IF your new to the Guard ?
budget yourself $50 to $100 a month and plan on 3 to 5 years to have everything for 1 regiment as long as you stay away from Forge World
I'm excited for your future Russ video. Can you do something on Valkyries? I know its not "meta" but I love air assault/airborne ops, and will probably field a few squads of scions.
Picked up 3 cadia stands boxes. I immediately started looking at tanks lol.
No shit, my dumb ass was really thinking just a few minutes ago, "ah, doesn't look like MG has a video today. Maybe he's taking Thanksgiving off..." LMAO
@Mordian Glory, thanks so very much for this terrific video. I'm new to the Guard myself but not to the game itself, so extremely grateful to you for this guide on what to go for next. Being ex military myself I just love the idea of a mechanised force. I was in a mechanised battalion so it's dear to my heart.
It funny the new cadian model are smaller than original shock troops
How do you deal with screening and such when you're running a mechanized armored fist army and have inherently fewer troops?
I've got Cadia stands box,2 leman russ tanks,2 more field ordnance boxes, sentinel, another command squad,3 more troops and 2 baneblade's anything else i can add to that ?
Ngl i play space marines infantry heavy...i collect multiple armies (tau, space marines, necrons, admech, eldar, votann and now guard and tyranids) and have always preferred infantry models. Just something about having rank upon rank of troopers smashing into each other
I have 30 infantry, 2 command squads, 2 leman russ (one Tank Commander) a Field ordinance battery, a heavy weapons squad, a lone heavy weapons team and a sentinel
My plan now that I’ve got two fully assembled and painted command squads I’m just gonna make two full cadian companies as i don’t Know what else to do
Leman Russ is now one kit.
Guys !! The balance dataslate -1 to Ballistic skill when indirect fire applies to the guard new codex?
Because in that case, artillery is pretty much worthless, right? I am struggling with that and the lack of conscripts, when trying to do a list for the new codex.
Seems like the Guard got scrawnier but are the same height. I'm just commenting to support the channel really, I plan to run 6 Leman Russ, 2 Dorns and a Baneblade
As a new player how is the Hellhammer and the other tanks like it? it look pretty cool
Funny you mentioned the broodbrothers i have x2 gsc leman russ’s with the battle cannon (2nd hand) and from the GSC battleforce set , i have nos still my broodbrothers ready to build. Tempted to do a GSC cadia themed army (since GSC broodbrothers are terrible in their codex). What do you think?
Any forage world units that are ok for guard beginners? seeing your older video on the Medusa I was thinking of one to supplement my main artillery. I'm leaning towards a vehicle heavy list since they seem to be favoring tanks lately
Death Riders can be used as Rough Riders, outside of that all forge world models are currently unusable due to keywords that may not be updated for months if at all.
You can never go wrong with some Leman Russ tanks.
As a Krieg player that doesn't have any sentinels, im buying more death riders.
I just ordered 2 cadia stands boxes. Selling the extra codex to a friend's son
I bought two boxes and got a chimera and Kasrkin squad
After Cadia Stands? ...well maybe your next thing should be 'Cadia goes for a nice walk'?
I’m pissed I sold a good chunk of my guard Cuase I had to reprioritize my life and now this is tempting 😅😂
Stay strong. Resist.
two shadowswords, got it.
Hi, are flyers a waste of space in the new 40k, not only guard flyers but all races? Does that explain your lack of enthusiasim for the Wyvern?
I'd argue that if you want to start guard, you shouldn't buy cadia stands. The artillery, although cool looking, are not worth fielding and therefore not worth buying
I have 5k of DKoK and I still watched this
Tanks. Period. Especially with the buffs the Russ got
buy a baneblade
Is 1 enough when your done magnetising the octa-blade and immediately want another
I believe its pronounced 'Bolt Action' XD
A 3d printer. You should buy a 3d printer ;)
