      This is a great video 💯 especially since you are not only bonding with your Son, but you are passing on your expertise and experience to another generation and potentially to many other family generations to come. We all need to talk about the importance of being a positive Father figure and Leader to our children; this is something that lacks in some of today’s parents and their children. Teaching Leadership skills and Outdoor skills is important. Keep being the best, Corporal, and we all salute you 🇺🇸

    Im 26. If your son reads this, I want him to know that these memories will never be shadowed by anything. Nothing will beat this. Nothing you do in your life, will ever stay with you the way this will. Girls come and go, and so will friends, jobs, beliefs. But memories like this are the best life has to offer. Period.

      Chance Wilkerson. Do that--your girls will love you for it. I had a dad, but he was badly crippled from rheumatoid arthritis and did not show interest or emotion ever. I didn't have a mother, either, because she had what was then an incurable disease and died one month after I turned five years old. I learned what I knew from caring teachers and about primitive camping from Girl Scout leaders and camp counselors. Adult mentoring is so very important, and Corporals Corner videos are the best. A great teaching tool from a great instructor. Concerned parental/adult mentoring is important, because if you don't provide that interest in them, a predator will.

    Someone made a snide remark about this not being an emergency, well in an actual emergency isn't the time to learn this stuff and when one does happen, this kid is gonna know what he's doing thanks to having a dad who is willing to spend time with him.

    • @timkaldahl
      @timkaldahl 4 роки тому +1

      Rick Burton it really is an emergency when you think about all of the kids this age who have no responsible adults in their lives who will invest time in them. It blows me away that every year I have two or three of my high school students that start calling me dad. I'm very wary of hugging, but those kids come in most mornings looking for a hug. I make sure there is a lot of witnesses so no one can accuse me later on. Kids are literally dying from lack of meaningful adults in their lives. We also know that the more meaningful adult interactions a kid has the less likely they will get in trouble.
      And practicing a skill every chance you can is a good way not to screw it up when you have to succeed.

I can honestly say that I took the time to spend with my son, right now i hear things from him like, oh I only did you or that cause you made me do it with you. See, i wouldn't just let him sit and play video games all day and night ,ruining his brain. Someday, he'll get it.

    I said it before, but it holds true. you are doing it right with your son. spending quality time and teaching him to love the woods, that is something he will carry the rest of his life, and always fall back on the good memories you are making today. it is hard for me to do this, with my disabilities, but I still try and get out into the woods with my son as much as I can. and have already instilled the love of forest time in him. good job, Cpl. from a U.S. ARMY SSG-medically retired.

    I think that you and your son are having one of those... "just in time" moments together, CPL. My own son who is 30 yo now and I am going through the same things together. He went through a compass course last weekend that I had set up. This weekend was extremely hot. I am an ongoing cancer patient, so we didn't get out to do much , so we went through his get home kit for his truck, and made some modular improvements for that. We all have a calling when it comes to our children. "Mom" is teaching him gardening skills... I teach him the other things. Together, we hope to influence him enough that he can then pass on trained skills to his own children in the future. It's not an easy task... but it is a worthy task. I think you would agree. There is too much bull crap that our kids have to go through these days. I pray that he always chooses the ways that will keep himself self reliant. Go to a pro sports game or go fishing... I know he will always choose wisely. Great video... keep it up!

    This is outstanding father/son bonding! Whether Little Dude realizes it or not yet, he's lucky to have you for a father, and he'll always remember these moments. Hey, one other thing I'd like to mention, and it may sound silly, but when I first started watching videos on UA-cam, and everyone was talking about "more information in the description box", I had no idea what they were talking about, being an old fart; "I don't see anything marked description box", I'm thinking... It took me a little bit to figure out that I needed to click on the words SHOW MORE to get to the "description box". You might make mention of that for old farts and/or people that are unfamiliar with the intricacies of multiple online sites, especially if you are having trouble with copycats. Food for thought. Great job, as usual! Always love watching your videos. So glad to see Little Dude with you. Cheers!

    I've lots of rich pine on my property and I use it to start fires, but I never thought about using it as a board for a bowdrill. I'm gonna try it one day.
    Love the videos with the middle sized man!

      I just wanna know what this man has possibly done during this video to make someone care enough to go all the way to the dislike button. I don't even usually look at the likes/dislikes so that's just crazy to me
