Hey corporal, yesterday was the ten year anniversary of my dad's death (also a former corporal in the Marines) from health complications stemming from the camp Lejeune water contamination. I was about your son's age when he passed, and I just wanted to say it's great to see the two of you out there teaching, being taught, and just enjoying your time together. Those are the memories that last.

Shawn, what a great video! I'm also divorced and have two sons and a daughter, all of which are adults now. When their mother and I were going through the divorce, I took them on a camping/surf trip in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We had made some great memories that will last a lifetime on that trip.
Seeing your son and you in the video really blessed my heart. I did not know that you were going through a divorce when I first subscribed to your channel. I'm encouraged to know that as the Lord says, "The very things meant for evil God will turn to your good and for His Glory."
    Stay encouraged brother!!!

Great to see you two redeeming the time together and doing something valuable, passing on traditional wisdom and skills that can not only add enjoyment, but maybe save your life some day. UA-camrs are no Z listers to me, they are A listers "AF". Hollywood and television are dead to me with their agendas and narratives. This is what it's all about and you have one of the best channels out there Corporal, so that makes you an A lister in my book. ATB from Canada.

Hey Corp, so glad you're able to spend some time with your son. I just want to encourage you to give him all you've got.........ALWAYS. He desperately needs his Dad right now. Most importantly, while you've got him, make him a a part of your experience by allowing him to participate in the dialogue/activities. It will increase his value and worth exponentially while at the same time, expand his confidence and self worth.
Lastly, God Bless Mom for giving this time and opportunity to let John grow, expand, learn to love his Dad in many ways and learn what an amazing parent he has in DAD.

This is so vitally important to the fabric of American society. Coming from someone who was raised by a single mother, I believe it takes a man to raise a man. These videos show such a beautiful, ancient rite, the passing of the torch. More often this has been lost in modern times. Being able to see this dynamic is important, so men everywhere can emulate it. To show the world what it looks like when a good man takes care of his son and teaches him what he knows, as a good man should. God bless you Shaun Kelly and God bless your family.

Moments like these though sometimes dull and maybe even painful are what is remembered over the years. I will always remember those brutal nights as a kid when my pops would sit me down and read to me and explain the text(it’s old Chinese textbook written in prose and rhyme dictating codes of conduct in family, business, soldiering, and governance). He shared what he could and I am grateful for it.

But I cherish every moment I get with um. I’ve been doing more outdoor stuff with my son and daughters thanks to your videos. The girls aren’t too big into going camping. However one daughter wants to learn the art of deer hunting, one loves to fish. My son loves to fish, enjoys going hunting with me, and likes camping in the mountains. Ben Chacon Where ever your interest lay, there is a good chance that your kids (male OR female) will take an interest in it, but only if you show patience and make it fun. Most fathers take little interest in their daughters. All they really want is time with their Daddy. Sounds like your doing a great job, enjoy.

It’s awesome to see you spending quality dirt time with your son. I used to do the same thing with my kids, and now with my grandkids.
Teaching them lifeskills and making memories…that’s what it’s all about. Enjoy it while you can Shawn. Keep up the good work.

Really like watching your videos...cool about the poplar..love the way you give a way to identify and remember.
Good to see your son with you, I know you're proud of him.
My dad used to take us on short day hiking, fishing, campfire building, shooting guns and bow and arrow. I'm the only girl, have three brothers. That was a loooong time ago...my dad passed in 2010. I miss him, he taught us so much and I'm a total tomboy...well old lady now but still love the woods, and learning new things. I'm teaching my girls now, they weren't interested until lately since everything seems to be going to hell. They know their ole mama can survive pretty much anything! Thanks bunches for your vids!

By far my favorite video. This literally reminds me just the other day me and my younger brother went camping out in the desert. Hes new to camping but shows plenty of interest. Showing him the ropes and bonding was a real wholesome experience. And not gonna lie I'm not the most season camper but your videos have helped me in many ways. Not only with my own set up but helping hone my own skills. Love your videos keep it up man.

For the next trip you two should bring the half tent for the shelter, but with a better sleep system. And black bean dinner for a lively night in the tent.

My oldest son and his 13 yr old son fish on the creek on the back side of out property, he has a utube channel of them fishing! Triple S farm and outdoors! Check it out, he has some of the other grandkids on there too! It’s small time but cool!

This is a perfect video! I'm looking to teach my Son canoe and bushcraft skills so he knows what to do if things go sideways in the back country. Looking forward to what comes next!
