Studying rook endgames is essential because they are the most common type of endgame, requiring precision and understanding of fundamental chess principles. Mastery of these positions enhances a player's strategic depth and practical skills, as key concepts like opposition, active piece play, and cutting off the king are crucial. Additionally, knowing famous positions such as the Lucena and Philidor can turn potential losses into draws or wins. Rook endgames also improve overall calculation abilities and understanding of dynamics, making them invaluable for both middle and endgame scenarios. Ultimately, mastering rook endgames equips players with the skills needed to convert small advantages and defend difficult positions effectively, making a significant impact on competitive play.

I've been trying to come up with mental best practices for rook vs rook endgames. 1) cut off their king 2)activate your king 3) don't get your rook near their king 4) push passed pawns 5)stay on attack (if choice between attack vs defend) Any I'm missing?
