    I know this video was made 9 months ago. Interesting I am seeing it, only - today - after the Fides Chess Championship. Gukesh won the last game to Ding, and become the World Champion, on that SAME end game (or nearly so). Wow !

      Not quite the same, only the 2 vs 1 pawn part, but I am glad you found the video entertaining. I feel bad for ding though…. That rook blunder after that spectacular win and draw in the previous 2 days…

    Talking about the limitations of Stockfish: I set up an endgame with only the two kings and 10(!) white bishops on dark squares. Even though White is up 30 points in material, there is no feasible plan for a checkmate. Stockfish 17, however, says it's +13...

      @@fool4287 More fun facts: I added a knight, and Stockfish said it's +16 but did not find a mate. With a knight and only one bishop (instead of 10), it would checkmate in 33 moves...

      I’ve seen someone explaining this and saying something like “chess engine always give those positions +16 when the position is clearly a draw, because the computer can see draws by repetitions or 50 moves cuz he would always avoid them” or something in the line of that.

      @Petrochess День тому

      @@ChessCrafters-lk4dv I'm afraid this is not the point. There's no way to avoid the draw, as all these bishops are on the same square, so there is no checkmate possible. Actually, what confuses me even more is that the engine doesn't find a checkmate even when I add a knight(!)...

    Solution must be Kg1 Bd3 (because if Ke1, f2 and free bishop); Kf2 Bc4; e4 Be2; fe Kc2… and we have a Queen/Rook to win

    • @ChessCrafters-lk4dv
      @ChessCrafters-lk4dv 15 днів тому

      f2 is not a free bishop, white purpose is to exchange his bishop for black pawns... also if f2, white can play Ke2 and take your e pawn without you being able to take black bishop, because after Ke2 from white black is force to move his king to the H file thous not being able to attack white bishop after the king take black pawn

    In the position where Black has K on h1 and pawns on f3 and e3, and White has B on f1 and K on d1, with White to move, why not play B-e2? Wouldn't that lead to a draw for White?

    • @ChessCrafters-lk4dv
      @ChessCrafters-lk4dv 15 днів тому

      Nope, because you are not force to take the bishop and if white plays Be2 you would play Kg2 and if they would take your pawn you take back with the king and now you have opposition

      @ChessCrafters-lk4dv 16 днів тому

      what position are you referring to? at 1:00 is already a mate, well almost

    • @stphinkle
      @stphinkle 16 днів тому

      @@ChessCrafters-lk4dv You mention that it becomes a draw. When you have a queen and a king vs king where the lone king is on a end row or column and the queen is in any position of the row or column next to it and the other king is one row or column next to it (three consecutive rows or columns), this is winnable. Eventually the king even if he is pushing to the corner will eventually reverse and then you can get the queen protected by the queen's color king and mate the lone king.
