PLEASE UPLOAD MORE!!!! You remind me so much of myself. It’s lovely to see a women who looks like me at my dream school!!!!! Very inspirational!!!! I’m 14 by the way. I LOVE YOUR VIDEO!!!
I just got accepted a week ago, and this video is so helpful. I’ve been so confused about the dorms, and I couldn’t find sufficient info online. Thank you! ❤️
Hey, I LOVE your video! This is the exact type of straightforward, clear content I’ve been trying to find for a while now. I’m an incoming class of 2024 and I’m really hoping for that JJ single. Also you are absolutely GORGEOUS :)
I’m an incoming freshman hoping for a JJ single! I loved this video. There’s not that many creators here on UA-cam from Columbia so thank you for this :)
focus on keeping up your grades and extracurriculars, but definitely don't start stressing just yet. I didn't start studying for SAT's until my junior year of high school. You'll be fine!
I love your energy and Columbia is my dream school I want to be a study to be an anesthesiologist there and I used to live in NYC so I want to go to college there
can you make a video explaining the things you did to get into columbia. i’m currently a high school freshman, and i’m interested in seeing things i should do to have a better chance of getting in. loved the video btw :) also did ur room have a balcony?
That's my next video! Subscribe and hit the notification bell so you know when I drop the next vid. And, yes, technically it had a balcony, but the window doesn't open wide enough for you to go on it, and you're not allowed to even if you could fit through the window. Thanks for watching!
Hi thank you. I actually don’t know. It was a hand-me-down from my sister’s friend after she graduated. But I’m sure you can find similar chairs from target, Walmart, or Amazon
i use command strips or double sided tape! Command strips company has different forms of wall hangings and wall tape that you can use for different items
Hi Angel! I’m wondering where do people get all this Columbia merch haha it’s so much I think I’ve already seen like 10 different hoodies lmao do you have to pay for it or is it all free?:)
Emma sometimes you get free tshirts once you’re on campus, but for jackets and crewnecks and other merch people buy it from the bookstore. Columbia has an online bookstore where they sell all their merch. New students get a one time discount I believe
congrats on your acceptance! From what I remember there are like 5 single-use bathrooms on each floor. So you share these with about 40 other people. You should check out the floor plan by searching "Columbia John Jay Hall". The housing website gives a breakdown of the dorm
@@AngelNjoku ah thank you!! I was looking into the other buildings too but I actually am going to be a graduate student! Do you know if that’s a different building? I only really have seen picture examples!
@@kimberlyramirez1146 oh! John jay is for undergraduate freshmen. I don't know what the graduate school dorms look like or what the housing setup is. Although, I have a feeling that most of them would be suite style/apartment style, so possibly sharing a bathroom, kitchen, and living space with 4-6 other people. Don't quote me on that though
Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for. I have a question about Columbia that I hope you’ll answer. I’m a high school junior right now, so I’m looking to apply October of 2022. I kind of had it out with the admissions office today. They said as a freshman I had to live in the dorms. I think this is ridiculous because I live on West 23rd Street, and it’s like 15 minutes on the 1 train to get to Columbia. They said, “Tough luck, you have to live in the dorms as a freshman.” I said, “Well, what if my parents just pay for the the room, and I never live there and just make my roommate happy because she now had a secret single.” This only got them mad at me, and they claimed that not only do you have to swipe a card to get into the freshman dorms (that I expected) but there was a guard at a desk in the lobby of all freshman dorms, and I had to sign in and out every single time I left and came in, and if I didn’t do this I’d be counted as absent and get in trouble. At this point I wanted to yell a few things like, “What is this, 1953?” or “Maybe instead you should pay more attention to your students who are running drug delivery services and expel them!” but I didn’t think that would help my admission chances, so I just thanked the admission officer for the information and hung up. So can you give me the real-life student perspective on this? Do I really need to sign in and out of the dorm at a counter where a guard sits, every single time I come and go, or were they just giving me some story to frighten me into living on campus? I mean, what about those girls who spend the night in some guy’s room and then do the walk of shame back to their dorm in the morning? They probably signed out at 7:00 p.m. and then signed in at 8:00 a.m. And I doubt the college went looking for them. What is the real deal?
Hi it’s weird that they told you that because I had a friend who lived off campus freshman year and commuted every day. I’m pretty sure you can opt out of housing. But yes you do need to sign in to each dorm if you want to enter them. Most buildings require a sign in anyway. I’m sure the admissions office didn’t tell you too much since you aren’t an accepted student. I say apply anyway bc it can’t hurt and weigh your options when the time comes
Also adding that if you don’t live in that dorm and you don’t live in any on campus dorm you might need to be sign in by a student who lives there. But I’m not sure anymore since COVID regulations has made policies different. You won’t get in trouble for not being in your dorm if you pay for it and never go. I’ve never heard of that before. But keep in mind that policies can change at any time so I’m not 100% sure
Hello, My daughter really wants to go to Columbia but is really intimidated by the acceptance rate. Do you have any advice or tips that can help her with getting accepted? Thanks!
no it's not dumb at all. As a freshman you don't get to pick the room or floor. You just pick the dorm and whether you want a double or a single. You rank your dorm options and they try to match you as best as possible. There is, however, a box to add any extra notes you want them to know about so you can indicate that you really want a single for so and so reasons. Or you can find a floor plan and tell them which room you want specifically. This doesn't guarantee that they'll give it to you though. After freshman year you get to pick the specific room you want, but they give you a randomized lottery number first to let you know when you get to pick. The better the lottery number, the sooner you get to pick, and the better your options are
I got an interview with a Princeton alum which went just okay. And a Stanford admissions officer and alum and that one went really well. I never got one for Columbia or any other schools. The interview is just based off of what they have available so you won’t be penalized if you don’t get one
@@AngelNjoku Hi Angel, me too. I had interviews with Harvard Princeton and Stanford but not Yale and Columbia. I am scared and anxiously waiting until April 6 for Ivy’s, April 9 for Stanford, 🙏 4 me!
Jadalyn Anaya not at all. I knew I didn’t want a roommate and I never do. I hate sharing my space. Honestly I’ve mostly heard about people falling out with their roommates and hating them, or just eventually having separate friend groups. I made most of my friends from group chats over the summer and then meeting them in person once we got on campus. Also club groups and extracurriculars area great way to make friends
Jadalyn Anaya haha not where I stayed. They’re not common but it is possible. That’s why I shoot for a high floor level. Better views and less critters and vermin. Personally I’ve only seen rats in the NYC streets at night and subways
