OMG. Exactly what Ive been waiting for. I must have it!!! The only reason Super Notes look so good is because they get the display closest to the writing surface, due to no backlight and no color. This is gonna make it hard on the reMarkable and Super Note.

@@nathanaelcard I like the way SuperNote opens their development roadmap to outside feedback, and the replaceable battery on Nomad and A5X2 are a HUGE deal. But they still have trouble keeping up with the market (promised features stuck in development, more delays on the A5X2 release). I think it's too early to know for sure if the Go 10.3 will be a success, but it's certainly looking interesting.
Kit - this might be a MAJOR game changing device a lot of us were waiting for. Can't wait for your review.

I'll happily have no front light if it means lighter to hold and better battery life. I can always turn on an actual light or sit in the sun - particularly at this time of year when taking eink in the garden is just perfect.

A front light turned out to be very helpful to me on my Note Air 3. I really enjoy reading in bed with the light and warm colour temperature. Also, it helps with poorly lighted rooms late in the evening. I remember watching some reviews of the Remarkable, and I was shocked by the little lamps on a clip, which people would usually have. So for me, that seems to be a deal breaker. However, it does look like a Remarkable 3 by Onyx, and it's awesome. Thanks for the quick and informative video!
Same, getting the gap between pen and display smaller for a better writing experience might be useful for a lot of people, but I need a backlight

I felt the same way about the NA3C and Kindle Scribe. Gotta have a front light for reading in bed. Until I realized that the front light hampers the note-taking experience, app availability sucks you back into internet addiction and sleep deprivation, and my existing 7” e-readers are better for bedtime reading anyway.
wow looks like a fantastic device! I couldn't be happier with my note air 3C, but I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this series of products if and when the time comes to upgrade. this does look a fair bit more enticing
It looks like a real winner for sleekness and portability, but in truth you have the more advanced device in the Note Air3 C. :-)
I've been waiting so long to get an e-ink tablet but i was never 100% sure on which one I wanted until now. The Go 10.3 looks like the perfect thing for me.
The 10.3 is the remarkable we've been looking for. With a bluetooth keyboard connected, it will be a cool writing tablet!
That remains to be seen. Brandon Boswell tried a couple of wired USB C keyboards during his unboxing yesterday. Wicked lag, and the return key didn't work!

I have a Supernote Nomad and a A5X. I’ve been waiting (and waiting) on the A5X2. I just ordered the 10.3 to see if I like it since it will be here months before the A5X2
This looks like an interesting option. I wish my local retail stores had all of the various e-note devices to compare in-person. The main thing I would like to know is how much of a difference the weight and thickness make for everyday use when compared to the Note Air 3C.
I haven't used an e-note before, but my gut feeling is that colour e-ink would be really useful for me. I like using colour annotations and many documents I read would benefit from colour. I'm not sure if the portability factor would be that significant to lose the functionality of colour. The price difference is probably what makes the Go 10.3" more attractive, but maybe not enough for me.
I think Boox should have rather called this the Note Go seeing as it is primarily a note taking device. The smaller 7" device makes sense to form the basis of the Go lineup, as it is not targeted as a note taking device (I would guess cheap capacitive styluses should work in a pinch though?). I just got a Kobo Libra Colour and I might have gone for the Go 7" if it was available sooner.

Just ordered one. I was really considering the Air 3C but I want something that I don’t need to be charging regularly and I got an iPad for the color stuff. Having the option of a light would be a plus in one side but it could ruin the quality.
What made me go with the Go 10.3 instead of the Air3 is that it’s a newer model with a 300DPI and I expect with it some innovation and better quality as they removed the need for light.
My first Kindle had no frontlight and it was fine (except for the lower PPI). When I upgraded to a Paperwhite with a frontlight, the main thing I noticed was that the native display (unlit) was much greyer than the lovely white of the first. So I ended up using the light, even in daylight. I miss the really paperlike feel of my first Kindle, so this new Boox product might be the one for me.
Yeah, I think that there's always been that trade-off with the front light. I think this will be a great option for people in your position.
Thanks for this comment. I was just experimenting how it would look like if I use my Kobo Libra 2 with no light. I was a bit disappointed with the way it looks. However, you mention that it is not how it is going to be with these no-front-light devices.
Interesting, I have a Tab Ultra and the "whites" are quite disappointingly not so white, so I was wondering whether this is really the best that e-ink can be. Would love to compare it to a non-frontlight device.

Very good question, it certainly will give you a lot that the remarkable never will! A Go 7.8 could be an interesting entry into the series! A Go 12 also would be cool!
I enjoy my Supernote A6X (kinda wanting to upgrade to Nomad for maybe better performance for Atelier) for now, but I've been interested in Color for quite a while. The Boox Go Color 7 seems like a great companion to it.
I love my A6X for writing and reading,but not at the same time. So a companion just for reading while I take notes on the A6X would be cool.

I would like a colour 13.3 . I'm happy with my tab ultra c, but when replacement time comes I'd like a Tab X with maybe improved colour and a front light for reading in bed, when the old feller is sleeping. The go seems OK, but not enough to upgrade, and the lack of a light is a deal breaker.

As expected from Boox, the standard of manufacture looks excellent but for my user case I'm not tempted by the hard glass screen and note taking software... I'm even thinking of selling my Note Air 2+ and purchasing the Bigme B751C for _'notes on the go'_ and to complement my A5X. Again, as always its a user case issue, and I can see how the _'Boox' Go Series'_ will be the perfect range of devices for many.
The 10.3 looks just like the Remarkable. Looks like they want to take away some of the A5X2s future sales, too…

Yup! AND you can add the Kindle app to this device and read all your books on it as well. Something the Remarkable doesn't do!
@@KitBetts-Masters It’s a much different feature set than the Remarkable or the Supernote. If you can live without all of the Supernote writing features, this is a strong choice, at a much less expensive price point!
The Go 10.3 has my attention. I hope when you do your review you can load up one of the Android drawing apps (Autodesk Sketchbook?) and run it through its paces the way you did for the Scribe. Your video convinced me to purchase the Scribe as a low-tech sketchbook but the Go 10.3 could be exactly what I've been wanting from the Scribe for sketching. 🤔
I would love it if Boox would bring a dedicated drawing app, or if someone somewhere would make a great drawing app for android eink tablets, but at present I am afraid that it is not an option to draw in third party apps because the lag is so bad. Did you see my London special? I made a comparison of drawing on a good range of tablets and well, the Supernote won, because it has a great dedicated drawing app now!
Will the 300ppi and obmission of the front light brings the reading experience on par with the top guns such as Kobo Libra 2?

"Paper has never needed a front light". Good point! I'd probably need to feel it to see if the thinness and lightness is worth the trade-off. The bigger one for me is no microSD -- #2 ranked deal-breaker for me on devices. #1 is ability to install Android apps -- I'm a big Obsidian user and am still working on the dream workflow -- and Boox is great for this. My Palma is really good -- one more inch on the screen would be ideal.
Comes down to the nibs. Do you think the pen will be better than the Remarkable 2? I own the RM2 and tired of changing the nibs. They don't last very long for me. I am interested in the Supernote because i heard it doesn't requiring nib changes, but i do like this design better. Wish they can bring the Supernote pen over to this product.
The pen is the same as the ones supplied for a few generations of Boox device now. It's fine and it is compatible with a large range of wacom EMR nibs. You should have no issue finding a feel that you get along with.

Boox Go vs Air 3... From the point of view of an experienced user: If the use of the tablet would be mainly for taking notes, is the Boox GO a better choice than the Air 3? I assume that the difference between the devices will be only in the active backlight. Otherwise, the technical specification is identical. What is your opinion?
Air 3 = 227 PPI, Go 10.3 = 300 PPI
@@ser1ification Voia from My Deep Guide made a video about this. 300 PPI vs 227PPI on an EInk device is basically unrecognizable in everyday use.
You really have to get close to the screen to see small improvements with 300PPI
@@Metrodragon I disagree with that comment. There are other factors as well, but my Kobo Kibra 2 display (300 PPI) and Onyx Note 2 Plus display (227 PPI) are very different. Kobo is crisp and clear. Other factors affecting this are: Kobo has sunken screen, onyx has extra layer for paper feel.
I really don't care if they are lighter. I think the remarkable 2 have a perfect weight and thickness, it makes it feel like quality and less plastic. It's much more important with responsiveness, the feel of quality, how well they have done the GUI (simple and easy to use), precision in drawing and writing, etc ... I want a clear interface like remarkable. But it will be interested to see how good the new ones will work.
Interesting point, yeah, they've made a firm decision on plastic for lightness and price. But also some prefer the warm to the touch feeling of a plastic body. I guess choice is a positive aspect of their line up.
One the other point, Voja, Brandon and I were discussing them perhaps adding a focus mode switcher, between a full android and a simplified UI. Could be a winner for them.
I was waiting for a new boox device but I need the light. Do you think it is a good idea to buy NA3C or NA3 now or should I wait for the next one? Is it worth it knowing that Boox will spam the market? What do you think about Boox’s reliability?

PS lack of a front light isn't even an issue for me at all, thin light and RM2 killer hardware with really capable software is my perfect device!!
Do they (boox) have those note taking quality of life stuff, similar to marking a star or making headings etc so you can organize notes? I don’t own supernote but I like those features
Aww man. I was literally about to press go on a supernote nomad. Will the note taking experience, and note linking and note organisation be able to compare with the nomad? I'm really in it for the note taking, but mic and speakers and other android things are attractive. But still, supernote is pricing itself out of the game when you consider the actual specs, and lack of the bigger size device. I would have bought the A5X2 already if it was available, and was only just about to begrudgingly settle for a nomad. Back on the fence I go...really, that price, closer writing surface, and included accessories has my attention. I was so ready to love the nomad 😢
Yeah, I hear you, and know where you are at. The truth is that you will likely love whichever you get so I would suggest just buy with confidence, whatever you feel yourself most pulled towards. :-)
@KitBetts-Masters ha yes first I thought I'd settled on boox tab ulta c, then discovered the benefits of no backlight. I already have an ms surface, and have s22 ultra, and am all about the stylus life ,but never really got the benefit of them as much as I would like, because it's like writing on glass where the pen never touches its own output. Feelwrite2 might be the deciding factor, along with note links and I guess the vibe that supernote puts out with its repairability and commitment to the simplicity done well concept. It's a pity so few of these competing devices have retail presence so that consumers can touch the device and make a decision. This direct online only sales approach is not in the buyers favor in many ways.

Boox shouldn't be affecting Supernote, but I guess perhaps there's an issue with availability of the screens at this size and resolution. E-Ink need to up their production if so!
Thirteen days later, more information has surfaced. In the meantime, I found a Canadian dealer with good pricing and return policies, so I bit the bullet and placed a pre-order. I think this just might be the compromise I've been looking for- more apps than Supernote, lighter and more compact than reMarkable 2, but with a simpler UI than previous Boox devices and fewer distractions. The freemark feature in the new firmware update looks interesting as well!

I think there is gonna be a Go 10.3 Pro with a front light. Because it would be the international version of the Chinese model Boox Note X3 Pro.
I like the 10.3 device. If it's a sunken screen, then it will be amazing. Add Boox's android system and it might become the perfect E-note. I've been using E-readers for a long time and I have been watching Boox from a distance. I'll be waiting the reviews.

I think that this Go 10.3 would be amazing for you. I think you'll like having the ability to log into cloud platforms etc for uni. Um, yeah, iPads are great, but they are very different purposes. TBH, a laptop and an e-ink note taker is all you need for most university courses, IMO.

Yeah, it's just going to be a pure reader that one. I think smaller screens with Wacom layers, for little garaged styluses like the Samsung Note S Pen was could be a winner for future e-ink devices.

Very new to the eink space devices as I’ve only owned Kindle for reading, but got into researching for an e-ink notebook for productivity and replace my regular notebook. With this release I’m a bit confused and would appreciate if someone could chime in as to why should I lean towards the newest “Boox Go” vs the Note Air 3(c) or Boox Mini tab C?, I guess since I’m new on this, I’m bit overwhelmed as to which one should I choose

I think that's one thing they can leave out to make it as thin as possible and to keep the price down. Basically go for the Go if you are mainly interested in notes, and will be happy without the front light. Go for the Air if you prefer an aluminium build and a light.

Yeah, I just don't think that there is a way to include Wacom layers in that screen size just yet!

These devices in light colour (like the Nova Air) look much nicer than the black ones. I wish they offered a white colour option for all devices. The Go 10.3 looks very nice and the screen will probably be very crispy. Don't see any reason to upgrade from my device at the moment though.
Yeah, it's not obsoleting anything this time! I agree the white colours look really nice. White plastic doesn't always age well though.

Good question, I guess that's annoying for a lefty. But for me, I always mount images with a bit of extra space at the bottom, it's something that goes all the way back to classical design!
Dumb question: is there a huge markup to buy the imported version from China vs. US? I'd love to get it before I go on vacation to test it out then, but I'm not sure it's work a ton extra.
I don't think so, but I think you'd be stuck with the chinese operating system, so honestly, I don't think that is a goer.

Yes, but colour currently really needs a front light, so I don't think it would be possible to make it quite as thin!

I'm going to need Boox to get way better at drawing-then they'll be perfect.
As is, drawing is manageable, but there are quite a few limitations on the notes app that cause problems. Primarily, the lack of opacity options and the limited pen tools.
I like drawing on the tablet a lot (after getting over the learning curve) but it would be really difficult to use in any serious/ professional context.
IMO: They need a dedicated drawing app that has layer options, custom brushes, a better rendering.
(I'm using Air 3C. Going to return is too as the lack-luster color does not make up for the poor battery and extra $100.)
This looks like the new remarkable but I couldn't get on with Boox software where your notes and pdf files are in separate apps, kills my workflow as need all project documents in one folder. If they solve this I would be interested again. Tried a note 3c and liked the machine but that software killed me, back using an iPad for now.
Yeah, sounds like you want an iPad and a smaller eink focused note taker/reader. Consider the supernote A6X2. 🙂

I guess you could, but you'd probably have to cut it to size. Best go with the Supernote if you want that!
Actually paper does need a light from somewhere. E ink devices without front lights materially affect their usefulness. Thinner and lighter does not matter in the dark.

This looks great! But, I still have my Note 2 and it is still perfect. I have no real reason to change it.
I really wish boox would release an android device that lets you mirror output over wire to external monitors and TV's... It would let me use it as my main driver device and ditch traditional screens forever at work. I know there is the Android Wireless Mirror, but only smart TVs support it, and it gets pretty glitchy and slow.
It would also give these devices a large new demographic of users if it could work as a usb monitor that can receive input from pc and mac.
I’m expecting the A5X2 to come in at High $500s to $600. At $379 this is a competitive price for Boox.
Yeah, strong move from them, and that's also the cheapest you can buy a remarkable 2, which is of course outdated tech now. Remarkable 3 will also probably start around the 500-600 mark.
I wish manufacturers would always offer a "no light" option in every e-ink device they make... I already have with myself a much better and higher CRI source with me wherever I go if I reeeally needed it...

Great work! If you could improve upon your video's audio quality and get it slightly less boomy and echoy, it would be much appreciated.
I know, I was really disappointed with the sound after recording this, usually the sound is much better, I wasn't sure what happened. But I thought it better to have the content out for release date rather than not. Check some of my other videos! It's usually much better, and I'll sort it out ready for the live stream tonight!
It is really too bad that Supernote didn't get the A5X2 to market sooner. A Boox without a front light? Say it ain't so.

I just can't be sold on the boox devices, it makes me feel as if I wanted an ipad that does everything, then I'd just get an ipad, vs if I want something distraction free that feels like a notebook, then I'd go for a supernote or even remarkable but then the subscription model deterred me from buying it
Yeah, I don't think you're the only one with that very valid view point. I think it's one reason why the Supernote is so compelling.
They release new units like hot cookies, but my Boox Tab Ultra since ever and even with the latest update, keeps having screen rotation issues after sleep (closing the code or pressing the power button to go to sleep) and only a restart solves it. After more than a year they promised me a fix and NOTHING. So, keeping releasing new models and not fixing the older ones is very disappointing!!! And they also have no real camera app, just for scanning and most of the Google store don’t work 100%. Why no camera app? It has a decent camera and if I have the unit on the go and I want to make some pictures, it’s good to have it. We also don’t need very advanced features…
I take your point, but at least they do update things thick and fast. But I agree, there are some bugs which they would do well to concentrate on fixing. I think there is an interesting difference here between this and the note air series!

Yeah, remember you still have a great tablet, but at least you can take advantage of their generous returns policy if you think after using it a while and seeing the full reviews of this you might have got on better with a full android tablet.

It's 300 ppi, can't find exact dimensions but it'll be considerably better than full HD.

Remarkable's lack of lighting is the only reason I quit using it. I'd rather use my (lit) Boox devices and my Scribe. Just my opinion, though.
It was a similar reason for me here. So imagine the surprise reading the comments, where many people said it's exactly what they want.

Without Boox Super Refresh this is a deal breaker for me. The Tab X has BSR and it is a game changer. I wish they made a thinner and lighter version, with a faster processor, paper-like screen, and Android 12 - 14.
The one from Mooink felt amazing to hold in store. 350 grams, 0.7 pounds for 13.3 inches. Its battery life and overall functionality are incredibly limiting though. But that's something I want from Boox. Under 1 pound, feeling relatively weightless.
I agree, for productivity. But for reading and notes mostly, I'll take the battery life! Thinner and lighter 13.3 (or even 12") with BSR would be good.
Finally the note taking tablet I've been looking for and I go on the site and the 10.3 is sold out in the UK!

Interesting point, I suppose maybe that's something they couldn't include at this price and thinness. At least if you need that you can go up to one of their larger 10.3 devices. :-)

Yeah, I messed up and the wrong mic was selected, hopefully it was worth watching anyway! (I could only repair it so much in Premiere Pro!)

I always think of it that you can shape your use to your own preferences, whereas the others surely are great bespoke note takers, you have to fit their use case, rather than the other way around. For me it's more "master of fun". Many kind thanks!
I'm with Kitt. reMarkable is too restrictive for me, Scribe is worse. Supernote is better, but still doesn't support some features I need. One of them is Chordpro music charts (allows you to change key signatures on the fly). I've been looking to replace my iPad, and if the Go 10.3 is viable it could be the magic bullet, with lots of app options on the Play Store.
