Mom's got a 2008 MDX its awesome! Its fun to drive and very utilitarian. Kind of a gas guzzler and really bouncy at times, but overall we love it! Oddly enough when I went to the LA auto show about 3 years ago before the new MDX, I remember thinking "Ours is just as good". Its interesting to see how this newer MDX drives.
I just recently bought my wife the 2007 MDX with 117,000 miles on it for Around 15K. It has the technology package on it and with 3 kids it has the DVD system installed also and we thought that was a delight to have. For being 10 years old you really can't tell just by looking at it, it's a great car and my wife feels very safe driving it around and loves that 300hp when she punches the pedal. Thanks for the awesome review, I'm even happier we bought they one we did because it was very well taken care of and will last is many years of fun around town lugging all the kids to all the places they need to go.
I have the 08 mdx and I just can’t get rid of it. Styling, handling and power are just unmatched against any other 12 year old suv. 150k miles and counting. Still drives like a dream.
I have a 2017 MDX as a loaner right now. I have an 08 model, but here is where I like the old over the new: 1. Once I got in, I could tell that the 17 is less spacious than the old. 2. The visibility is less due to the huge headrest Acura decided to put in. 3. Worthless computer technology - if you drift off into the next lane, the steering brings you back center, but drifts you back over again. Very weird! 4. The whole center touchscreen is boring. Only blue, black & white colors & you have to control EVERYTHING mostly in the center screen. You have to lean in now to control it instead of the older models coming with the closer dials to your body. 5. Seats are nice, but it feels like their less plush. 6. I'm not a fan of the push button transmission. I wonder how much it'll cost to get THAT fixed! 7. Everything seems more computerized. Appears to be that Acura will be the ONLY place that you could go to repairs for. 8. The outer body looks beautiful, but I feel like Acura put more hard work into the older models perfectly.
KevanRay my 2007 has the Sport and entertainment package. This includes the power lift gate. It can be lifted from inside the car with a push of a button or outside the car using the key fob. Closing it uses those methods or a button on the tailgate. And yes my MDX has heated seats front and back. Also has the rear DVD player
Hv a 2007 MDX 1. It’s heavy, so feels little uneasy to maneuver especially during turns 2. Maintainance cost is higher especially the shocks if you own Sports model ($850 a shock 😬) 3. The front grille color film coating tends to wear out, which worsens the look. 4. You wont get more than 13 MPG in a city But it is a class and definitely a luxurious car, a notch above similar cars during that era...
My family had both the 2010 and 2015 MDX. I liked the 2010 way better. Had the J37 Engine (3.7 L V6) and 300 HP. Styling was aggressive and good looking, with prominent exhausts. They kinda pussified the 3rd gen MDX. Softer, blobbier, and 10 less horsepower with a smaller engine (3.5 L). Plus they hid the exhaust pipes.
Thank you for doing this, guys. I've never owned an Acura. As a (lifetime) college student all I could ever afford was a used Honda Civic (I've owned three), and I've always loved their integrity, longevity and reliability (very important things when you live like a college student). Having experienced nothing but goodness from Honda, I've always dreamed of owning an Acura some day. Particularly the TL or the MDX (I know, two completely different sections of the car industry), but I've always looked at the older models just, in my opinion, looking better, and having that sporty and fun attitude that characterized Acura. I feel they've lost that somewhere, for example, the moment they dropped TL to make a TLX. It is just too plain. Maybe not vanilla plain, but it's like French vanilla; still ordinary, but you could argue it's better. Can you guys do a TLX vs TL video, please?
I have both a 11 MDX Adv+Ent with +150,000 miles and 19 MDX Adv Sport Hybrid with +32,000 miles. Both are great vehicles and provide different advantages and disadvantages depending on needs. Hard pick a favorite between them because it is like picking a favorite child.
Zachary Strain absolutely zero!!! The only issue I had was the magnetic shocks, which I paid for replacing but now Acura sent a letter that they will reimburse you if under 100k miles or so? So my wife still loves driving it I'm just gonna keep putting off replacing with a used 2017 eventually! I buy them two years old certified will he 40k or less by then - great vehicle overall. I'm thinking about selling my 2011 high maintmence 335 for a 2014 TL shawd too- great oversll sport sedan even if not as fast as competitors -rock solid reliability
If you can, the 6 speed manual TL's with SH-AWD is a really nice under-rated car and is super fun to drive on back roads! My next goal is to find a 07-08 Type S since I currently own a 05 :)
I have a 2008 MDX and love it! I think the lack of panoramic sunroof is due to their rear seat entertainment system, when optioned, being on the roof instead of in the headrests or center console.
We have an '07 MDX, thing is a tank with about 164,000 miles and very few issues. It's getting to be a bit old now and is starting to develops issues ( we've stopped taking it on long trips after it broke down 108 miles from home ). But it's still a daily driver and is still going strong. Hoping to get another MDX as our next SUV.
I have no idea why a lot of reviewers don't like the push button transmission. I have a 2017 Mdx elite awd in Canada. Just love it... its so simple to use, frees a lot of space and looks high tech. I love the dual screens too. The way I've come down to understand this is that maybe it needs to be driven everyday for it to be appreciated, which is not the case with car reviewers. It's been 2 months now since I bought mine and I love it every time I get to drive it. Now another thing to mention is maybe I'm wrong since I own a 2010 Dodge Ram 3500 Cummins Turbodiesel that have been driving since 2013 (and still do, due to type of work) and I have no idea how a luxury SUV(CUV) is suppose to feel.
We bought the '17 model. Push button takes a day to get used to but then you wonder why other cars still use the ancient lever to move. Also sport mode plus changing dynamic control to sport and the steering firms up and you can flip off shifts with the paddles. We've used it for 7 passenger as well as big cargo - ride is very comfortable and it does everything you need. The lower screen does suffer from some sun glare, depending on position of sun.
Just picked up an 08 with the Elite package. It has a power rear lift gate. It has 195,000 kms and I plan on reaching 400,000 kms. Purchased it for CAN$8100. Love it and cannot believe I did not buy one sooner instead of our 2011 RDX which now has 325,000 kms.
yall should've compared the 2010-13 to the 17 considering that was the better version of the second gen, and having owned a 11 mdx I also drove the newer one (I think it was a 14 or 15) the older ones have a more sure footed drive and felt bigger inside compared to the new techy ones but that's just my opinion
the 2011+ of that 2nd Gen MDX is greatly improved b/c of a 6 speed auto that made it quicker and a tiny bit more fuel efficient. While still not as fast as the current one it definitely made a good difference
3rd Generation 2010-13 Had burning oil problems andfuel injection problems too... The Best Years for ACURA MDX were 07-09(Second Generation)Hands Down 💯🙌🏾💪🏾
Good review! I like these old vs. new reviews, especially the jeep wrangler one. It did kind of get annoying that you kept repeating over and over that you guys didn't like the push button transmission though.
Wow I can’t believe you guys love almost everything about the old one better. Absolute insanity!! The new ones look so much better, like 10x better. Its what made me buy one. I always liked Acuras but hated how they looked especially on the outside until the redesign. My first thought was wow they finally fixed it and it looks amazing!
I'm right there 100% guys I currently have a 2008 sh AWD version with tech an d I absolutely love it! It drives in snow and ice perfectly.and it's held up well!! Awesome video guys
We got a 2010 Acura MDX with the technology package and 94,000 miles for $8,000 on copart. The only damage was the tailgate got hit in the right side and it broke one of the taillight assembly. Pretty good deal if I say so myself.
They are probably both great considering when they are 20 years old the price doesn't depreciate and no one can afford one. May one day. I know the new ones are pusing 60 grand and most people don't have that kind of money for a truck.
I had a 2004 brand New and now I have a 2010 that was also bought new. Both Great Cars. My 2004 had a shift issue at 142k miles. My 2010 currently has 124k ZERO issues. Tbh the both are/were trouble free. They both are FAST for huge cars. I will eventually buy another new MDX but, the new ones are to Soft looking for me.
Depends - I find that in my part of the country - with the sun overhead its HOT with the sunroof open or the sunroof cover open - at certain times of day. I'd love to have a VW-esque panoramic sunroof if the covers were effect at keeping the sun out during the mid-day hours. Last night we did some shopping and then went home the long way through the country with the windows down and the sunroof open and the stereo playing nice tunes. Just on the edge of being too cool.
Jet black custom 2013 Acura MDX Advanced. Identical to the ones in Captain America! But even more epic! I named him ONYX 11 years, and half my life of dreaming, it is even better that I could ever imagine! Doing some epic modifications and custom work in the coming years! I’ve done a few awesome ones 6 months in. Completely restored the interior and exterior, including the rust! And put around 300 hours of hard work into the truck! I did the best that I could with my tools and a low college student budget. I don’t own many tools, because I have nowhere to store them. I had mechanically refurbished the engine, transmission, catalytic converter, power steering, and more to list. I baby the truck! I will insure will last it until I am 30. But life happens, and nothing is guaranteed. I learned that with my beloved old 2004 MDX Tech. (Maximus). A computer virus from a 2006 navigation system(Trojan horse) very very unfortunately killed all of the computing units! It killed Maximus. I cried privately for weeks! 7 years (age 14-21), 220,000 miles, many fun and sad experience later, road trips, and memories. Over 500 hours of repairs work and hot rodding! That truck was my life! I loved Maximus more than any (romantic) relationship that I’ve been in through my youth. People can be shallow. Maximus was not only my vehicle, but my passion. Still sitting in my driveway for 6 months. R.I.P old flame. 🔥
I bought an 04 and I get a love of love from the honda/acura people than most with the 2020 LOL. I wish I could update the interior from a later model to my model however.
I really like the post refresh second generation, and I like the improvements they made for 2017, but certainly wouldn't be at the top of my consideration list for a luxury crossover.
2017 is my choice, I just purchased one and I couldn't be happier, no knock to the older version but I like how it drives and looks. You can be luxurious and sporty when you want too.
Lol, I like how he complained about not having a shifter...unless it's a true manual transmission you don't need a shifter. I grew up on manual transmissions and I am definitely okay with the shifter being out of the way. I have a feeling traditional shifters will be gone before too long. I guess the moral of this video is, don't have two people with old school mindsets without the ability to learn new things test new tech lol.
When I have the chance, I really like watching your mashup reviews. Have you guys ever did a re-mash up of previous reviews and talk about their reliabilities/dependabilities thus far? I get confused when Consumer Reports has a not so favorable review of a certain vehicle regarding reliability, but you guys talk about how well the vehicle currently drives.
Fun comparison. I love my 2009, the last model with the "family crest" grill. 2017 with SH-AWD - 4244 pounds, 3.5 liter 290 HP. 2007 with AWD - 4550 pounds, 3.7 liter 300 HP. Weighing 300 pounds less, of course the 2017 is going to be faster. Acura started using high-strength steel in 64% of the body in 2013 to lighten them up.
Nice video guys! We used to have a 2005, now we have a 2008. The 2008 has a motorized hatch, which I guess the 07 did not according to this video. One thing I think Acura really did wrong between the 2005 and 2008 is the human interface design. The 2005 had a touch screen, while the newer models have a stupid joystick that you have to rotate to select letters and numbers, then push, and sometimes you have to move it left/right/up/down... awful! The 2008 did have a shade for the video screen, which the 2005 desperately needed. Trying to backup with the sun shining on the screen made it useless. The 05 got about 2 mpg better than the 08. The AWD system on this works great, I've not spun the front tires from any intersection, whether wet or dry.
I have had two MDX vehicles...both had motor mount failures and transmission issues. The 2011 MDX had to have its head replaced. There was oil in the radiator...the replaced the seal, then when it didn't work, they retooled the head, that didn't work so they put a new head in the car after only 65K miles. Never towed anything. Responsibly driven and well cared for. I don't think I will ever buy one again.
Car & Driver tested the 2007 Acura MDX and they recorded a 0-60 time of 7.3 seconds. Your vehicle in this video must not be in proper tune, your timer must have malfunctioned, or your foot only went about 70% to the floor while accelerating.
Keyless entry, push-button start, push-button gear selection, digital everything , 9-speed automatic transmission sounds like this one's gonna last you at least a million miles 👌🏼
I like them both, but would gladly take the '07 (around $10k) over the '17 (starting msrp around $45k). I could easily get another 100k out of the '07, then probably still be able to get $4k-$5k for it. 100k+ mile Acuras tend to be very good values (assuming you find a good one). My gf and I both drive them (TSX and RDX), and love them (with very little spent). In fact, you'd never know their age by looking. That said, I recommend that everyone else buy the new model.......I'll want a good selection to choose from in 10 years!
I haven't driven the new MDX but I've driven the new Honda Pilot Elite with the similar push button 9 speed automatic. I do like the Pilot but I do agree with you guys, that the push button transmission is annoying and feels awkward when it shifts that many gears. It's a transmission that we have to get used to though because it seems like many of the manufacturers not just Honda & Acura are going with multi-speed transmissions to increase power and fuel efficiency.
It's great seeing comparisons of vehicles, not only in their respective classes, but one that highlights the updates (if any) aswell. As a everyday consumer, this is important to know and understand. Toyota, for instance, does very few updates. If a 2014 is the same chassis and performance as it is today, why buy the newest one? Or visa versa? Great videos.
I'm on my 3rd MDX. Had an '05, '07, and I'm currently with a '12. Yes, Its a big, thirsty, heavy ride for sure, but its also very nimble, very safe and 100% predictable if you drive it right. Not really a fan of the new models, they seems to have lost its sporty, aggressive stance/looks. I've never had one single problem with any of the MDX's I've owned. Car is solid and built to last. I'd like to see Acura develop the RDX a bit more. The mid sized SUV/Crossover is a very hot segment and they could be doing a hell of a lot more with the RDX in IMHO...

Oddly enough when I went to the LA auto show about 3 years ago before the new MDX, I remember thinking "Ours is just as good". Its interesting to see how this newer MDX drives.
These old vs new videos are so awesome!
Yes, they did an awesome job.
Still love the 07s!! You can definitely get them for cheaper than that if you search.
How did the car hold up ?
I like this series a lot, do more of these
Exporado M Yes, I agree.
Our 07 Mdx has a power lift gate and Navigation, Back up cam, and a sport mode and even an entertainment center.
Look up on UA-cam
Gene kim
Robert breaker
Chuck missler
The automatic tailgate was an option on the '07 models as well.
I have the 08 mdx and I just can’t get rid of it. Styling, handling and power are just unmatched against any other 12 year old suv. 150k miles and counting. Still drives like a dream.
Thank you for the review....But i love my 2011 mdx, a bit alcoholic when it comes to premium gas but still runs smooth.
I have a 2017 MDX as a loaner right now. I have an 08 model, but here is where I like the old over the new:
Somehow the 07-09 is more modern looking than the 17
Ayyyyeee that's my car (the old one)
Just bought a 2007. It has an automatic tailgate.
KevanRay my 2007 has the Sport and entertainment package. This includes the power lift gate. It can be lifted from inside the car with a push of a button or outside the car using the key fob. Closing it uses those methods or a button on the tailgate. And yes my MDX has heated seats front and back. Also has the rear DVD player
my 2007 has the Sport package, entertainment package and technology package and does almost everything the 2017 does lol
Yeah, my dad has an '08 and it has power tailgate, rear entertainment, a screen with navigation and some phone connectivity, and many other features
We got a 2011 base model and it has a power tailgate.
My 2009 doesn't have automatic tailgate.
I dont like the look of the LED headlights either but in terms of brightness and coverage they are amazing.
Still have a 2010 elite. Love it. The wife has a 2017. Prefer the ‘10 as it’s like a sports car!
Hv a 2007 MDX
1. It’s heavy, so feels little uneasy to maneuver especially during turns
2. Maintainance cost is higher especially the shocks if you own Sports model ($850 a shock 😬)
3. The front grille color film coating tends to wear out, which worsens the look.
4. You wont get more than 13 MPG in a city
But it is a class and definitely a luxurious car, a notch above similar cars during that era...
I'll take my 13 mpg and enjoy. I like old cars and don't mind spending the money.
I would take the 2007
Thank you for doing this, guys.
I too like the older MDX because of the sporty look and the actual exhaust tips
I have both a 11 MDX Adv+Ent with +150,000 miles and 19 MDX Adv Sport Hybrid with +32,000 miles. Both are great vehicles and provide different advantages and disadvantages depending on needs. Hard pick a favorite between them because it is like picking a favorite child.
The older mdx had a power closing hatch option.
yeah they tested the non tech package mdx
Great review we still have our 2007 looks like that with sport package 155k mikes it's a reliable as a tank defonetly will get a new one eventually
That '07 should not be getting a 0-60 over 9 seconds, trust me I thrashed my dad's all through out high school
mile above sea level
Something’s wrong with that 07 catalytic converter they tested 😂
Ya same here
I have a 2008 MDX and love it! I think the lack of panoramic sunroof is due to their rear seat entertainment system, when optioned, being on the roof instead of in the headrests or center console.
Do you think a 10 year old with 150K miles would lose some HP making the 0-60 a tad slower?
+todd baker yes of course.
todd baker what was the 0 to 60 of the 2007 mdx 10 years ago?
2007 Acura MDX 0-60 mph 8.0 | Quarter mile 16.2. That's for the non sport.
That'll make a difference. @ 0.1s for every 100lb drop.
its 150.000 miles which comes to 241.000 KM < they are great
We have an '07 MDX, thing is a tank with about 164,000 miles and very few issues. It's getting to be a bit old now and is starting to develops issues ( we've stopped taking it on long trips after it broke down 108 miles from home ). But it's still a daily driver and is still going strong. Hoping to get another MDX as our next SUV.
Old one looks so much better
I miss the grille of the 07 it looks more futuristic to me
Nooo way
O7 still looks good it's 2024
Hate the beak.
I completely agree . The 2007 looks nicer than the 2017.
This is what's good, just like old TfL, best video you guys have made in ages
God I'm so sick of hearing about the goddamn push button. it's auto! who gives a shit how you put it in drive! Just be happy it's not CVT!
Agreed. The push button actually is nice in my opinion because it automatically shifts to park when you open a door or stop the engine.
If y'all are conparing old to new, do a 3G TL to a TLX. I'm sure many guys would LOVE to see this!
With the old mdx, you can also shift manually, which makes it a bit quicker off the line.
Look up Chuck missler Gene Kim n Robert breaker on UA-cam
2010-2013 MDX was the best. Beefier engine and best sportiness of all the MDXs.
It’s nearly the same for comfortability though
Yeah I have a 2010 model and it is the best
They burned oil like mad. Also the interior leather ripped.
2011 for the win
3rd Generation 2010-13 Had burning oil problems andfuel injection problems too...
The Best Years for ACURA MDX were 07-09(Second Generation)Hands Down 💯🙌🏾💪🏾
Good review! I like these old vs. new reviews, especially the jeep wrangler one. It did kind of get annoying that you kept repeating over and over that you guys didn't like the push button transmission though.
Bad-mouthing the Push-Button Shift Actuator for no LEGITIMATE reason pretty much disqualifies the opinions of these oafish cretins.
the 07 has held up well. id love to find a cheap one as a winter/commuter vehicle
I had a 05 MDX for almost 8 years..wonderful SUV drove thru 2016 snow storm in east coast and many before that..never got stuck..no issues whatsoever
I love old vs. new! Please keep doing these videos.
It's cute on the outside but you really need to drive the old one! No car payments either. They all use a lot of gas, but no problem.
I'm right there 100% guys I currently have a 2008 sh AWD version with tech an d I absolutely love it! It drives in snow and ice perfectly.and it's held up well!! Awesome video guys
17 MDX can tow 5000 lbs if you add on the accessory ATF cooler. 07 came with a trans cooler from the factory.
This is the fastest SUV on the planet
why are 07 acuras so damn much still?
Dan Lins Honda reliability.
Simply because they are awesome
We got a 2010 Acura MDX with the technology package and 94,000 miles for $8,000 on copart. The only damage was the tailgate got hit in the right side and it broke one of the taillight assembly. Pretty good deal if I say so myself.
They hold their value pretty well compared to the 07 RX Lexus which I think is a tad bit better because of the interior.
My mom bought her MDX new in '08 for around 60k
I had a 2002, 2012 and now a 2019 and the 2019 is so superior to the MDX's before.
please do a compare between older v8 4runner vs the newer 4runner
tvu1987 Agreed! If only Toyota still offered the V-8. Oh well I will just equip a TRD Supercharger to it.
tvu1987 1997 4runner with the 3.4L V6 vs 2017 4runner would be better
They are probably both great considering when they are 20 years old the price doesn't depreciate and no one can afford one. May one day. I know the new ones are pusing 60 grand and most people don't have that kind of money for a truck.
My mom has a 2009 mdx and we like it. My dad is not a huge fan of the newest mdx. I like both though.
I like the older model much more. The new one looks bland and its push botton trans is a 100 percent fail.
Would love to see an '07 RX vs '17 RX.
If only this car had a panoramic moonroof.
For those actually intrested in which year MDX is the best: 2012 handsdown.
Jet black custom 2013
Acura MDX Advanced.
Identical to the ones in Captain America! But even more epic!
I named him ONYX
11 years, and half my life of dreaming, it is even better that I could ever imagine!
(Maximus).
A computer virus from a 2006 navigation system(Trojan horse)
very very unfortunately killed all of the computing units!
Just bought my 2008 MDX love it
Lol, I like how he complained about not having a shifter...unless it's a true manual transmission you don't need a shifter. I grew up on manual transmissions and I am definitely okay with the shifter being out of the way. I have a feeling traditional shifters will be gone before too long. I guess the moral of this video is, don't have two people with old school mindsets without the ability to learn new things test new tech lol.
Nathan wearing the Rush shirt and representing the Canadian made MDX! Good on Ya!!!
What a nice jacket roman... can you bless us with a Samba lesson tutorial 💃🏽💃🏽
Samba Samba
When I have the chance, I really like watching your mashup reviews. Have you guys ever did a re-mash up of previous reviews and talk about their reliabilities/dependabilities thus far? I get confused when Consumer Reports has a not so favorable review of a certain vehicle regarding reliability, but you guys talk about how well the vehicle currently drives.
the old mdx looks better.
No doubt that the genration 2006-2013 MDX were much better looking!
No, the hell it doesn't. The new 2019 Acura MDX looks a 100% better than that ugly 2007 MDX!
I prefer 1st gen looks.
I bought a 2007 Acura Mdx Sh awd technology package 1 owner 115k miles. Love it 😀
Nice video guys!
You guys are nuts lol. I agree with you about the push button transmission though. So glad they kept it out of the RDX
We recently bought a 2013. My wife sure enjoys driving it.
Car & Driver tested the 2007 Acura MDX and they recorded a 0-60 time of 7.3 seconds. Your vehicle in this video must not be in proper tune, your timer must have malfunctioned, or your foot only went about 70% to the floor while accelerating.
Elevation
Keyless entry, push-button start, push-button gear selection, digital everything , 9-speed automatic transmission sounds like this one's gonna last you at least a million miles 👌🏼
can you old vs new Subaru outback 2015-17 vs first gen or second gen outback
Great review guys, thank you
I like them both, but would gladly take the '07 (around $10k) over the '17 (starting msrp around $45k).
I’ll take the 2nd gen with the 3.7
Hands Down 💯💯💯💯Second Generation the Best
I haven't driven the new MDX but I've driven the new Honda Pilot Elite with the similar push button 9 speed automatic. I do like the Pilot but I do agree with you guys, that the push button transmission is annoying and feels awkward when it shifts that many gears. It's a transmission that we have to get used to though because it seems like many of the manufacturers not just Honda & Acura are going with multi-speed transmissions to increase power and fuel efficiency.
shopping 2014 and 2015 best of both, thanks for the clip!
2007 MDX was a great SUV.
alex martens jhv5bhunnnuùūu.
alex martens bra call it a off-road car
Still is lol
alex martens do you have problem a drain on battery ?
In cool weather
I have a 2010 MDX and it's great. But the 2007 RDX we sold after buying the MDX was more fun to drive
I got 05 pilot thinking of upgrading to 2007 mdx tech for 9k
I just got an 07 and it was actually a decent used car deal and it has only 136k miles.
Enjoying the 10 year comparison...question on longevity of the newer MDX
