I'm almost done with my lease of my blue 2017 MDX with a white interior and I have to say the car is absolutely amazing. They designed the car so beautifully and the grill, interior features, and Honda engine in it is all just awesome. It really picks up too even though it is still a midsize SUV. The infotainment system is my only issue since it can be a bit laggy ad unresponsive at times, but other than that, I really do love my MDX.
We bought our first Honda in 2006, a lease return 2004 Honda Pilot that we put over 250k miles on...took the car across country, into Mexico and Canada. When we sold it a year ago the buyer was amazed that the engine still sounded like a brand new car. We just retired a 2012 MDX SH-AWD Tech/Ent package, with over 300k miles that had taken us all over North America...talk about dependability and reliability. Great power, handling, and the technology was great for that time period. It was an absolute road beast. We have driven our 2017 MDX SH-AWD with Tech package from Texas to NY 4 times, to Canada and Mexico, has over 90k miles, and still drives and feels like a new car...amazing! I would say, though, the 2012 felt like quicker acceleration due to less gears, but the 2017 is no slouch. The 2017 has a much smoother ride, softer suspension, better technology, and is much quieter than the 2012. We are about to purchase another used 2017 MDX SH-AWD with Advance Package & Ent. System. Can't wait to try out the different features. Huge Honda/Acura fans!
An extremely good dynamic, driving review that most other reviewers ignore. What is so special is your driving impression which even professional auto reviewers are thin or non-existent on. I'm so tired of car reviews that only focus on features, statistics, info nuggets, &/or static measurements. Again, this was an extremely good dynamic review on how this vehicle drives!
We have 115 0000 trouble free miles on our 2012 acura mdx. Its a great crossover period . Fun to drive with the super handling all wheel drive. The seats are the most comfortable i gave ever sat on and i have driven a lot of cars. The only truck that beats the seats is probably the new vovlo xc90. German cars maybe more fun to drive but who wants to spend 1000s with repair costs. I use that money to go on vacations now
I have a 19 MDX Adv Sport Hybrid. Love the extra power, improved handling with electronic dampers+regen braking+tq vectoring, improved mpgs, and same utility/space as the 3.5L MDX. Very nice traveling vehicle with plenty of space for 4 adults.

Excellent review! One thing I really love from your reviews versus others is you actually drive the vehicle hard to give us viewers a realistic view of how the car accelerates, rides and handles, and sounds, etc. Thank you! I am a subscriber.
If you want an entertainment car review video you watch Throttle House. If you are wanting a review video to actually purchase the car. You watch this guy. He is imo way way way underrated.
Been driving since 1983. Never thought about Honda because their styling has always been blend. I stumbled onto Honda in 2006 with a 2004 Honda Pilot EXL with Entertainment System, due to having 2 kids in car seats. I will never switch. They are the most functionally thoughtful car maker producing EXTREMELY reliable vehicles. I put over 250k miles on that Pilot driving it all over the US, Mexico and Canada (we do a lot of road trips) and when we sold it, the buyer was amazed that the engine still sounded brand new? We just retired a 2012 Acura MDX that had over 300k miles on it. Our 2017 MDX has over 90k miles on it and still drives like a new vehicle. IMO, if you want a dependable and reliable car that is extremely functional, Honda is your brand.
From a handicapped person's point of view, I wish more vehicles would introduce the button driven transmission control and telescoping steering wheel, especially in a smaller model. I have arthritis and severely arthritic hands. I test drove the MDX recently and the tech features are fantastic! It's just a lot of car and a lot of money.
Sofyan is the best review guy ever in any car review capacity. Been watching all your reviews lately, and i will tell you this, you've saved me from buying not-so-great cars including SUVs. Your review on 2016 CX-9 made us bought one. We are now in the market trying to get another family SUV. We almost bought Pathfinder last week until your review. We'll either wait for the 2018 Expedition, or buy the Volvo XC90. Your though on this Sofyan. Thanks
When I upgraded SUV's I considered this vehicle, one of the main reasons I didn't went with the MDX is the double screens on the dashboard. I went off with a 17 Toyota Highlander LE.
MrCarGuy20 Current generation mdx released end of 2013 as 2014 model year and the pilot released as 2016, in the automotive world 2-3 years is long time. My guess would be that the next gen MDX will come in Q3 or Q4 of 2018.
That's actually a great truck. Looks fun too! The new front end is great, and a nice set of wheels would set it off. I wish the interior was updated more, but the gray doesn't help
I enjoy your reviews. I have a 2002 MDX with Touring/Navigation. I don't see a whole lot of difference. Still running strong with 155,000 miles. I'd love it if you could add something about expected reliability in your reviews.
I have a 2004 Acura TL and absolutely love it, but I gotta say that I am not impressed at all with the way Acura has been going since 2009. They have seemed lazy and not seeming to have interest in really competing. The Honda Pilot has a more updated and actually nicer interior, the exhaust tips are horrible in my opinion on all models except for the NSX. If you make a luxury performance brand you need to have exhaust tips. I think if Acura could add sportier and more updated and luxurious features they could once again be compared with a BMW or Audi like in 2004-2008. I love Acura but they need some major upgrades.
I don't think Acura is too far behind. You pay for what you get I believe. I would never buy an Audi, BMW, or Mercedes though. For a BMW or Audi sedan with 290+ hp, the safety features, nav, etc, you're paying $50k+. They cost too much for too little standard features, and their badges aren't worth $10,000 to me. If I drop $50k on a car, I expect AT LEAST what Acura offers. I mean let's be real, the 3 series BMW maxes out at 248 hp for $38k+ (that's without blind spot monitoring, nice speakers, seat warmers, etc), so Acura is definitely better in terms of bang for your buck. What people SHOULD be saying about Acura is that they should do more with their cars and charge more. Acura's interiors are fine to me to be honest, but yea sure any updates in the automobile world are good ones. I think most of this new heavy criticism of Acura is pretty much derived from Honda's nice, recent updates.
Scott Watkins couldn't of said it any better myself man thanks!! Bought new 2014 mdx and with over 60,000 worry free miles I can tell you it's been an amazing fun reliable vehicle for my family of 4!!!
Dave Farley Not true I and many of my Friends can afford Bentley and Rolls we choose to drive Acura and Lexus for there reliability and understated badge, my time is very valuable so, I want waste it going back and fourth to the dealership lol!! Trust me I've owned way to many German vehicles to have learned my lesson!! Good Day!!!:)
I have a 2016 Acura MDX . I bought it at the end of 2016 I saw no need to buy the new one on the lot given that they are exactly the same inside . I will see what 2018 brings
Excellent Review Sofyan. I really like the new diamond-pentagon grill front fascia that Acura has started to implement onto their vehicles. While It's shocking to hear that the brand doesn't offer Android Auto and Apple Carplay on 99% of the vehicles in their lineup, it is nonetheless offered on the reintroduced NSX. Hopefully that will change in the near future, once Acura starts to either refresh and/or redesign one of their other vehicles, like the upcoming refreshed TLX for 2018. Fingers-Crossed. - Michael
You keep asking why the Pilot is better equipped then the MDX. Its obvious that the Pilot is a brand new design while the 2017 MDX is still based on the 2nd gen Pilot. They are not going to redesign the entire structure of the vehicle to add a panoramic sunroof just for a mid cycle refresh. When the 2019 MDX is released it will have all the best Pilot features, plus more.
True but that doesn't change the fact that when the 2014 MDX was released it was meant to be a step up form the 2nd gen Pilot (which it was), not the 3rd gen. This is the problem with badge engineering. No matter how far one car advances during a full redesign, another will always supersede it with its mid cycle refresh.
That is not necessarily true. Also, what Sofyan is saying in terms of the comparisons to the Pilot, is relevant to the buyers today in 2017, not 2014. Acura should have done more to 'future-proof' their MDX. Moreover, most manufacturers use their luxury brand to show innovative technologies, which then trickle down to the generic brand. Look at Lexus and Toyota, or Infiniti and Nissan. Instead of keeping that stagnated ancient navi on the MDX, Acura should have redone their navi 3 years ago, and then have it trickle down to the 2017 Pilot - not vice versa. It is ridiculous that a Pilot has to "trickle down" its features to a luxury car. If anything, this just shows how noncompetitive and weak the MDX was when it came out. Acura's haven't had cooled seats, or heated steering wheels for ages. Hell, even on this refreshed model the brake lights are not LED. Wtf? A $20,000 elantra has an all LED exterior but a refreshed 2017 Acura doesn't? Not even an option? You can't use "old platform" as an excuse for this one. Regarding android auto/carplay, the refreshed accord received it... no excuse the MDX couldn't either.
well said. It boggles the mind that luxury car brands don't have full led tail lights on all their models. You can do so much with led like each model can have their own unique and cool looking design. And honeslty how much more would it cost Acura to throw in full led tail lights? 100 dollars extra maybe?
Great review, Sofyan! I really love your style of reviews! They are very concise, while still being very informative and detailed! I cannot wait until I can review a MDX in the future, too! I really wonder how it will fare in my tests! Keep up the great work! 😉👍 -DriveAndBeDriven "The Quest To Record The Best!"
Good luck trying to get permission from the management team of an Acura dealership to let you film their vehicles. I already went into two different dealerships a long time ago, only to find out the hard way that the managers from both places took offense to asking permission to film their inventory, and basically said "NO," all while twisting my words around on purpose, having a negative attitude, and benefiting both their personal and political agendas. I've haven't been to another Acura dealership ever since. It's a lot to absorb, but you should at least know what you're getting yourself into before taking the risk to make attempts of your own to do this. - Michael
Nexccelerator, Thanks for the helpful information! I definitely make sure of it. I am sure the Acura dealership I am near will be cooperative, though. Also, I just checked out your channel, and it's pretty cool! Feel free to check out my channel, too! Thanks! 👍😉 -DriveAndBeDriven 🚘 "The Quest To Record The Best!"
Love your reviews man! Been following for a while but you are oppionated! Boy o boy. Center stack technology is a tad bit dated yes. Acura has kept it because the typical Acura driver is used to it. The knob control is for driver setting while touch screen interface is for passenger. I have been selling Honda Acura products for the past 10 years I never get any complaints about it.
Our 2014 RLX basically has the same instrument panel design, really don't know why it takes some of these auto makers so long to totally redesign some of theses models, makes no sense that the Pilot was redesigned almost two years ago but not the MDX(or RLX) ....
It's also bewildering that some vehicles (especially luxury vehicles ) do not have the option of a panoramic sunroof at all ...even in the top tier packages...
Thank you for another good review. I'm actually cross shopping the MDX and XC90 and both have good and bad points. I'm looking forward to your review of the Volvo.
i am very interested in buying this 2017 but can you tell me if this direct injection engine has been having any build up of carbon issues ? i appreciate your feedback , thanks
Any chance you could go over and rate vehicles' headlights during an actual nighttime drive? Metrics such as beam range, width, quality of light distribution (even distribution vs hotspots, etc) and beam cutoff (sharp vs color flicker) would be nice to hear. I feel like headlight beam quality isn't something that makes its way into many reviews.
It is a shame Honda updated the interfaces and feature offerings in its Honda line up before bringing Acura up to date. I just bought a 2017 ILX I love it! However I wish I could get apple CarPlay and safety features standard. But I'm impressed with my ILX.
Luxurious and sporty look and driving experience vs more tech. As someone who is very into tech I still would prefer the Acura's more sporty look and driving experience with a more luxurious interior than the tech filled Honda and other competitors. (not referring to Honda as an Acura competitor)
Would you have this or a Lexus RX? i like the interior of the Lexus, but you had said this Acura is a bit sportier. But to be honest, how much sportier can one 3 row SUV be over another? Great video!
i have an acura tsx. great car. acura in themselves produces great cars which are reliable and look quite nice, besides that aforementioned TL. My gripe is the same as everyone else, why are they lacking as a luxury manufacturer? for $69,000 for the 6 passenger elite (here in canada), I may as well purchase a 17 Lexus RX 350 with the f-sport series 2 package for the same money and get a better looking vehicle with more "to-date" tech - provided the third row is not important to me
There seems to be a HUD spot on the dashboard right above the steering wheel... it lights up when you first turn the car on.. but I cant find any way to control it.
I'm trying to determine whether the Advance has a heads up display. None of the UA-cam reviews mention it but I have read about it and can see that the dash top in the advance has an extra hole that the others don't
You don't have to keep on holding 'engine hold' button on key fob just press lock and keep on pressing until you see yellow soon after you can release the engine hold and if it's within the range you will see green indicating it's started. Long story short no need to hold until you see green light!
Acura could put hand control where you pick it up from the center console for anyone could turn heat on and govern the heat levels or air conditioner. Not much of a problem with the auto's computer . SEMPER FIDELIS
Jarek Jellison Yes we do! Audi has just approved us for press vehicles and we've got a new A4 and S7 scheduled early next month. A Q7 and A5 will be sent as soon as it enters our local press fleet!
I hate how you have to get the advanced package or pay extra for fog lights. When Acura just gave them to you standard. A good example would be my cu2 or the 3rd gen TL.
It's so weird that they have that many differences between the Honda Pilot and its sibling. The whole point of a luxury brand is to add more bells and whistles (leather, stereo, etc) and upcharge for that. Sofyan mentions a worse infotaiment system, a worse sunroof, and less rear space. What are the Acura execs smoking?
the interior is really boring and expected to change in 2017 model let's wait at least they will update for 2018. Actually the change is required inside but not outside they did it other way.
The value is why we chose to buy a 2017 MDX SH-AWD Advance.
We loved the new Q7, but it was over $80k.

I've haven't been to another Acura dealership ever since. It's a lot to absorb, but you should at least know what you're getting yourself into before taking the risk to make attempts of your own to do this.

Nexccelerator, Thanks for the helpful information! I definitely make sure of it. I am sure the Acura dealership I am near will be cooperative, though. Also, I just checked out your channel, and it's pretty cool! Feel free to check out my channel, too! Thanks! 👍😉

"The Quest To Record The Best!"
the interior is why im holding off on buying a new MDX. Im waiting for the total new designed 2019 MDX
I have a TLX and you can change the GPS map view to a 3D view so that it doesn't look so dated.
After watched this I will get one on this weekend. Good reviews ever.
I had the original MDX and this one looks too much like a van from the outside.
Joseph Delgadillo I agree, but these days, all crossovers are like that, like the Infiniti QX60, Buick Enclave and Audi Q7.
@Alton Waldrep l don't give a fucc
It’s pathetic the navigation looks same as my 2007 mdx- which has been a great vehicle 170k miles and going
you do the best car reviews!
I have that very same SUV in the blue, love the SUV!!
Thank you for another good review. I'm actually cross shopping the MDX and XC90 and both have good and bad points. I'm looking forward to your review of the Volvo.
Lu-Hiep Phan Our full review on the 2017 XC90 should go live in about 2 weeks :)
Nice! Can't wait. Though I think you should post it a week early....
i am very interested in buying this 2017 but can you tell me if this direct injection engine has been having any build up of carbon issues ? i appreciate your feedback , thanks
Btw this engine dates back to the 1999 Honda Odyssey j series engines have always sounded aggressive to me
f181234 except this one has direct injection.
The Power OF Dreams 🙌
@ 2:25. Why is everybody nowadays just loosely using the term 'truck' on every larger vehicle... this a crossover SUV and not a truck.
But who says SUV it’s like saying a sedan to a car, and you can’t call it a van
It's all about prestige, and MDX has that way over a Pilot.
The interior looks so old.
its just a refresh.
It doesn't matter if it's a refresh or not...it still looks 5+ years old
Saabfrk the interior looks like it ripped out of a 2005 Acura.
i agree, the tlx too. i was hoping for more, but my dollars will be going somewhere else.
Edgar Tefel
So how you want it new.? Dumd fk
Look at BMW it they new.? Still sale
It is a shame Honda updated the interfaces and feature offerings in its Honda line up before bringing Acura up to date. I just bought a 2017 ILX I love it! However I wish I could get apple CarPlay and safety features standard. But I'm impressed with my ILX.
Who can tell me specs of 3.0 hybrid engine? Is it naturally aspired engine, unlike the 3.5
Thank you.
Funny enough, I cross shopped the RX vs the MDX and really struggled until finally getting the RX 350 F Sport.
Björn Green good choice. Lexus for life. Lexus boys. I love my Lexus and will never buy a different brand
Rx is beautiful and reliable, but acura mdx drives so much better in my opinion. I also cross tested both, but acura won for me.
They need heated steering wheel in all models and heated rear seats.
Luxurious and sporty look and driving experience vs more tech. As someone who is very into tech I still would prefer the Acura's more sporty look and driving experience with a more luxurious interior than the tech filled Honda and other competitors. (not referring to Honda as an Acura competitor)
like the refreshed look. Would still buy the Honda Pilot over this.
hi can you review the Lexus GX460
What a nice little crossover.
Wondering y it's bad quality but it's been a literal minute
I would get the Lexus RX
when you speeding and screaming down on a narrow country road , did you think about the safety of others ?
Would you have this or a Lexus RX? i like the interior of the Lexus, but you had said this Acura is a bit sportier. But to be honest, how much sportier can one 3 row SUV be over another? Great video!
Downshift and u get more standard features for a less of a price Lexus where’s Apple CarPlay
Can you review a 2017 Nissan Armada
i have an acura tsx. great car. acura in themselves produces great cars which are reliable and look quite nice, besides that aforementioned TL.
Front design looks way better than its sedan model.
I don't get what designers of Acura are thinking.
I love the grill I wouldn’t. Buy a 2016 as they look outdated in comparison anymkss
You don't have to keep on holding 'engine hold' button on key fob just press lock and keep on pressing until you see yellow soon after you can release the engine hold and if it's within the range you will see green indicating it's started. Long story short no need to hold until you see green light!
I would like to see your review for the 2017 Acura MRX Advanced. I can not see to find anyone with a review for this model.
Hard sell not to just get the Pilot. Great Review
This is a great review of this car. Honestly the Acura mdx is a little overpriced. I wouldn't pay $44k+ for the base...
Anyone owns of these that can give a updated review now that you’ve owned it for a few years? Looking to purchase one
Acura could put hand control where you pick it up from the center console for anyone could turn heat on and govern the heat levels or air conditioner. Not much of a problem with the auto's computer . SEMPER FIDELIS
I love your reviews but there's something off about the sound quality.
I hope you guys gonna make rdx review s again
Would you say the CX-9 is a better alternative. Or is the MDX a stronger choice?
Todd Medium Wellington We actually would rather get a fully loaded CX-9 signature over this MDX to be honest.
@@theredline Thanks
Buick Enclave is better in my opinion but if they keep the 2 screens but improve them as well as the interior, this would be better.
I think of buy used 17' Acura MDX who agree?
Do you have plans to review any new Audi products (the new A5 when it comes out, the Q7, and some S vehicles to be specific)?
Jarek Jellison Yes we do! Audi has just approved us for press vehicles and we've got a new A4 and S7 scheduled early next month. A Q7 and A5 will be sent as soon as it enters our local press fleet!
Redline Reviews Awesome! Keep up the hard work! Love your reviews!
you can enter an address while moving via the voice commands function.
Why does acura not have Car Play and a Garmin GPS when Honda has it? It does not make sense.
Can that center console in the 2nd row be removed?
Panoramic Sun roof will be on the new model this is the last year for this model
Great review. Thank you.
My mom has a 2012 MDX and loves it and was hoping the new one would be so nice and upgraded, but honestly not worth getting over the competitors
When is the new model coming out? Acura, you really need one
2021
How are the LED headlights at night? Do they seem brighter / better then HID's?
Best I've ever seen.
Nice Review Of 2017 Acura MDX. 😀
the interior is really boring and expected to change in 2017 model let's wait at least they will update for 2018. Actually the change is required inside but not outside they did it other way.
Sofyan, if you can get your hands on the all-new 2017 Kia Optima Hybrid/Plug-in Hybrid, then will you review it?
We requested one, probably won't have it until late spring though. Be sure to check our social networks on all the latest press cars we're testing :)
Are you ever going to review the Volvo XC90? I love the 1st gen model and would really like to see a review of the current generation.
We actually already filmed the review of a 2017 XC90! Expect to see it go live later this month :)
Redline Reviews can you do a review on 2017 Charger SXT ?
