Fun fact about the sound Sosumi: Basically, apple was having a trademark conflict between Apple Corps, the record label for the Beatles, and Jim Reekes, the guy who designed the sound wanted to call it "Let it Beep", as a reference to Let it be by the Beatles, and someone was like we can't use that due to the whole apple corps thing, so Jim said "So sue me.", and that was changed to Sosumi, and that's how the name of the sound was created.
Yeah and the still use the Big Sur sounds in Monterey I actually managed to download all the alert sounds from OS X and from os 9 and add them to my alert sounds on my MacBook running Monterey right now I’m currently using the Indigo sound from os 9 as my alert sound there’s a sample of the Indigo sound at 1:32

Very nice video! I have been searching for an alternative startup sound i had in OS8. Or not startup, but a chime that played when you reached the desktop. I found it somewhere in the system folder i think.
It's the new startup sound on Macs with a T2 chip. The video didn't get it quite right, though; it was added in Catalina, not El Capitan. In Catalina, you can enable it by opening Terminal and typing "sudo nvram StartupMute=%00". In Big Sur, it's enabled by default. The option is in System Preferences > Sound.
@@CocoTheMii my girlfriend had this chime on her 2018 MBP right out of the box (after re-enabling it via terminal because initially the chime was removed when they introduced the 2016 models) but I have a 2014 MacBook Pro and even on Catalina, I still had the older one, even while beta testing Big Sur I still had the higher pitch chime up until I installed the release candidate of macOS 11, only then I got the lower one. I really miss the old one, I think it sounded way better

This video is WAY longer than it would have been without all the transitions. Also, a lot of the operating systems have the same sounds, and they could have easily been grouped together to save A LOT of time.
Believe it or not, the startup chime of the Mac is actually hard coded into the motherboard, so unless you swap the motherboard, if you put let’s say hypothetically speaking OSX on a 1980s mac, it’ll still have the same chime it came with
I think the startups for El Capitan and debatably Sierra are incorrect because when my husband upgraded his MacBook Pro, the startup from Mac OS 9 to Yosemite was heard. And since Apple changed in 2017, The new startup should first be heard in High Sierra and onwards.

The startup sound was based on the processor or logic board, not the OS. Upgrading from System 6 to 7, for example, does not change the startup sound.
