I think your approach to allowing kids to do something to address it when they get hungry is very reasonable. Also, thanks for being open about anxiety and the fact that therapy can be helpful. As a culture , it’s good to hear about how common anxiety is and also how many folks, with or without it, can benefit from pausing to think things through with a counselor. Hope your semester is off to a good start.
I greatly enjoy your blogs. I currently homeschool our 4 & 5 year old, but I'm a former H.S. school teacher. You are AWESOME and inspiring. Your daughter is surely a blast. Pre school girls definitely add spice to life. Blessing for the "new" student semester!
Yeah for self care and checking in with therapy when needed!! Kids seems happy and healthy (you too)…. Thanks for sharing you’re the first high school teacher I’ve come across now I’m off to try to find a math teacher….. :)
I’m in college currently for post secondary English education and I wish I could student teach with you! Such an awesome approach to teaching with everything you do 😊
In my country, we have to report mental health issues when being employed, and it's not meant to affect your job retention, but I have seen those who are open "fail to retain" their job in schools... One year contracts become the norm, which tbh is worse for anxiety... I'm glad you are able to handle it well and keep your job, and I wish you all the best
okay so im a senior in high school and STRONGLY considering becoming a high school teacher but im extremely nervous and I dont even know where to start all I know is I wanna be the teacher I never had I was be the teachers who's classroom is a positive safe space because I didn't have that is there any advice you could give me for that
Just started studying secondary education and suffer with anxiety myself. Do you have any advice on dealing with difficult teenagers as this stresses me severely, and I haven't even started teaching yet.
I’ve taught at risk youth for 8 years. Its the best job in the world. You have to remember they are all just young kids who want a trusted teacher who likes them and respects them. Thats it
Learning classroom management skills should be every new teacher's number one priority. There are too many strategies to list here. The book "Teach Like a Champion" would be a great resource for you. Best of luck!
@@effervescent4765 it was pretty decent. It wasn't that bad actually! Our tests were dispersed too. I might have 2 tests one day or 3 tests on day, but for the most it would be 1-2 tests every 2 weeks on avg.
Well, if I can remember that far back... ;) Actually, I very distinctly remember feeling nervous, and then reminding myself over an over again that these were KIDS, they were human, and they were all (on some level) just as nervous as I was! Then I felt like confronting my nerves would help my students!
Greatly appreciate your videos. Tons of great information that has made my first year of teaching relatively easy. The process has been fun and exciting. Your videos have been very helpful. Thank you and best wishes to you and your adorable family.
Could you please do a video on your experience as a theatre teacher? My major is theatre education with a minor in English and there’s NO theatre teachers on UA-cam. What made you switch to English, what is the job actually like, etc.
Sure! I have talked a very little bit about how I've brought Theatre activities into the ELA classroom, but I will add more Theatre videos to the list!
I love your personality ️ ❤️ :-) I keep thinking I want to become a English teacher for middle school or High School because I enjoyed it so much when I went to school and I have no interest in anything medical or legal so I keep coming back to this idea of a career. But I stress because I don't have the best confidence right now cause of depression, I'm only halfway for an Associates, I have sleeve tattoos, worried about the students not doing great on standardized tests, or not finding a job. Should I let these fears hold me back or should I think more positive? Thank you
So sorry you haven't gotten anyone responding to this yet. I don't think you should let those fears hold you back! I'm currently in college now also fighting heavy emotional bouts and anxiety with a tattoo slapped right under my collarbone so whereas we can both go under the matter of concealing for the matter of our kids, a lot more tatted teachers are coming out. Yours are especially easy though, sleeves can be covered by sleeves! And if there's some ink peaking I don't think that will make much of a difference because when everything is officially open schools are going to be on a mass lookout for educators given so many parents had to adapt the role of everything in the house during the pandemic. And it's highschool/middle, they tend to dismiss things a lot more up there versus walking in a kindergarten class with tattoos exposed. Hopefully this helps encourage your decision on education. I am another one of those people who just personally can't see myself doing anything medical or legal, but I've always had a love for kids. I'm hoping to be with the younger ones, but I'll be keeping you in my thoughts, even if you don't pursue teaching!
Such a great vlog!! I am tackling the same issue but with lord of the flies and of Mice and men. Your life look so much like mine even though I live in France. It's nice to share about your anxiety because many people have to deal with that too, including me. OK, I'm off to work and I still need to check my Manifest destiny unit.... Never ending job but so rewarding. Still need to wake my kids... Too....
I have a question, and I understand if you don’t want to answer it. When you first started having kids how did balance being a teacher and a new mom? I want to be a teacher but I also want to be involved in my children’s life because sadly growing my mom was always working and never really around much, at least when I was younger.
Hi! I am a sophomore in college studying to be a secondary English teacher! I just wanted to say that I love your classroom setup, and the material you had for your unit, Pride and Prejudice (that is one of my favorite books!). This is the first video I have watched of yours, but I loved this one, so I am excited to watch more! :)
I just have question. I’m about to become a teacher soon but I’m scared. I am really young because I’m an early college student and I look like a high schooler. I wouldn’t know how to deal with a confrontation. Do you have any advice? Love your videos by the way 🙂
I've started teaching at the age of 22 .. it was a bit strange lol since i look younger .. first day in the school everyone tho i am a new student xDD but I keep tellling myself in the classroom that Im THE TEACHERRRR HERE !! Now after 6 months of teaching I feel much better and comfortable ! I don'T like the idea THAT I should look or be like that to Look like a teacher i did it in my way. . JUST DO YOUUUU YOU CAN DO IT IN YOUR WAY x)
Boink I am 22 years old as well and in my second semester of teaching high school theatre! I am only 4’8” and look 12 years old, but once you get into your lessons the kids will understand the structure and respect you :) That’s not to say they won’t try to take advantage of you every now and then, but it’s not so bad!
I'm studying to be a high school English teacher! Do you ever bring grading, planning, etc. home with you, or do you try to finish it all during your planning period and during the day? Is that even possible? I've heard of some teachers doing that so as not to become too overwhelmed, but I feel like it would be so hard to finish everything!
I will definitely say that I was taking work home with me most days in the beginning, and it gradually got better as time went on. Looking back, though, I didn't have things like UA-cam and IG to get hacks and tips from more experienced teachers - if I had that insight, I think it would have been a lot easier to prioritize and create systems!
I get anxiety at school, speaking out in public and etc. I am starting a new high school I’ve heard about it because one of my uncle who died after he graduated went to that school but I’m scared🤯😭
Also kids who is hungry at school I think what you said is right if the timing is right take a quick break. Some people either don’t like to eat until they go home or they have to take care of siblings before they go to school and is in a rush or they woke up late.
Hi I'm a student in Thailand 🇹🇭 I love your videos very much. Now I'm studying at University. I love to learn English very much but I'm not confident to speak it. Could you recommend how to practice English language ? ❤️❤️❤️
My native toungue is english and right now I am learning spainish, something that really helps me with getting more confident to speak it out loud is by watching movies or TV shows, or even listening to music in that language to hear pronunciation or see mannerisms in an everyday situation.
1. Student need focused feedback early and often and they should be taught how to assess their own learning 2. The most effective assessment addresses problem directed questions that faculty ask themselves 3. Course assessment an intellectual challenge and therefore motivating for the faculty Guys help me to understand this huhu

Pride and Prejudice is my all-time favorite movie! Soo much symbolism when it comes to class, relationships, the role of women, etc.
I have also always struggled with anxiety and depression and see a therapist every other week. It's so nice to be reminded that we're not alone. ♥️

@Alex LoPresti The theory so far is pretty good. I don’t go on prac until next year September. But in the mean time I’m enjoying it!
I was a hs math teacher now I'm an office temp....mental health is priceless

When I was in High School, we had a semester and 50-minute 7 periods a day
That's horrible. I can't imagine the amount of homework they gave you.

This is great! I'm from Australia, and I'm about to become a high school maths and English teacher. Would love to see more videos of day in the life!
Anxiety question: How did you deal with or prepare for your first ever day of teaching in front of a class?

SNACKS!! I tend to eat a big breakfast, snack during the day while I’m teaching or between classes and eat a small lunch.
Love from Germany. Love your energy!
Are you going to post your Pride and Prejudice mini unit on TPT or your blog?!
I am! I just need to work out a few of the kinks...
