    Just a brief video of a normal day in April! I teach AP World History, AP European History, AP US History, AP Psychology, World History, United States History, Psychology, Government/Civics, and Economics. Hopefully this video provided some insight as to what a teacher’s day looks like!
    I’ll be making more videos of the sort, as well as some that are meant to help guide new teachers on their path. Whether you’re a new or experienced teacher, feel free to check out my resources in the link above, and make sure to follow me on social media for memes, materials, and as someone who can answer your questions!
    Make sure to turn it up a little bit! I only had my phone to shoot with so some of the distant audio is a little bit quiet.

      Why did you call it the US-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact instead of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact?

    • @morganapteaching9007
      @morganapteaching9007  4 роки тому +1

      @@colepalmer8601 Did I say U.S.? Obviously meant Nazi-Soviet. Official name is not easily recalled by students, so I use the Nazi-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact instead. It's a pretty widely-used term (it's even on the AP World and AP Euro CED Standards).

    I really like your idea of listening to audio books in the morning on the way to work to get your mind working and occupied on fresh ideas. I do this all of the time and it really helps. I recommend this to any new teacher. Listen to something cerebral that will stimulate the mind.

University is a profound waste of time if you're just looking to acquire knowledge... in fact, you can listen to many of the top professors in the world on UA-cam. It's really only necessary if you want to hone your research and writing skills by subjecting them to professorial review.

      Teaching in Canada is a great career!! Get a degree related to history (or take enough courses to qualify) and also get a bachelors in education. It’s easier for you to apply to a “concurrent” stream in university, which is when you do your bachelors in history and bachelors in education at the same time in 5 years. It’s WAY less competitive to get into compared to doing your history degree first (4 yrs) and then trying to apply to get into a bachelors of education (2 yrs) because the grade requirement is way way higher. Good luck!

      I will say that even though teachers don’t make the big bucks, they do make enough salary to have a comfortable living. Also, keep in mind that some states pay more than others. The average high school teacher, in some of the states in the southeast, average around $40,000-$50,000. Portland, Oregon is one of the highest paid cities for teachers, along with other places that I can’t think of at the top of my head right now. Not sure what the statistics are on entry-level, but regardless, my main point is that teachers make a comfortable salary so you won’t have to worry about living paycheck to paycheck like if you were working a part time or full time job that pays in hourly wage. Also yes, for the things they do and the hard work they put in, they should definitely get paid more! My advice is to go with what your heart desires! It’s better to work a job that maybe pays less but gives you better fulfillment in your life versus working a job that makes you miserable but pays better. Money is important to a certain degree.

    • @canadianboy5578

      I’m not sure how I describe it in the video, but everything they do earns in-class currency. Winning games, or bonuses, or doing the best work on a project earns them extra, as well as investing opportunities. They can then exchange said currency for various in-class rewards, such as free time, assignment opt-outs, extra credit, etc. I do run it like a real economy, however, and adjust wages and prices to the market, as well as manage inflation.

      Depending on what grade you wanna teach. But from a high school student perspective. You’ll get tested to your limits at times. And deal with a lot of stress. But i find it common that teachers that are care that their students are grasping the information rather much of the scores they are getting and overall understanding towards their student whether it be not screaming at them due to the fact they have some missing work or being patient with how they grasp things. They are often looked upon highly from many of the peers. And as well history is a subject that students either fully love it or hate it. As long you don’t focus on doing everything from a textbook or sugarcoat events, you’ll have kids that are interested in what you have to say.To wrap things up, though this may not be useful as it’s just student stating her opinion. We’ll be a pain when you first start out but if you’re understanding and caring. You’ll be respected and remembered by many. You’ll be shaping the future generation minds on how they view things. Even if you do or don’t become a teacher, I wish nothing but luck to you!

    I don’t understand what takes so long to plan, why not go over a different subject every two weeks , one ten question test per week and the students grade each others papers. You could even record your first period lecture then replay it the rest of the day for students .This seems insanely inefficient to take up 12 hours.

    • @morganapteaching9007
      @morganapteaching9007  5 років тому +2

      I teach four classes per week until December, then the four classes change in January as we run the semester schedule (meaning I can teach up to 8 different subjects in a year). Contractually, I am in the classroom for 7.5 hours per day for 37.5 hours per week + adjunct duties scattered throughout the year. When you apply my study halls before and after school, it can range from 40 to 52 hours from Monday-Friday. Just depends on the time of year!

      @@KoldKillaC No. I'm a centrist. The Student News is pretty unbiased (they try to make it objective), and I offer counter-positions if a leftist bias ever emerges. Also worth noting, the Central Valley, in which my school is located, is majority red--its the coastal cities (which have the majority) that are blue.

    Wait. How do you teach history AND psychology? The content of those subjects are vastly different. I didn’t go to school for education, so I’m curious as to how that works. That’s like me teaching chemistry, even though I have a master’s degree in computer science. Do you have degrees in both?

    All School Teachers should work 12 months a year. When classes are not in session, Teachers could do Administrative work and perform other tasks, based on their skill-pool attributes. In the long run, this would save School Districts money in that they wouldn't have to hire as many people to perform non-teaching jobs. Physical plant duties could also be done in that manor. Simplistically hat better way to fix the furnace, by a Shop Teacher with help from Industrial Arts Students (if in session). Schools being self-sufficient, will minimal exceptions, is not only good & practical education, but more cost effective & easing the tax burdens on residents of the District. Any to be more cost-effective to a School District, WITHOUT compromising the Educational standards for the students, would be a feather in the cap for the learning process. School Districts, based on their relative student body size, should not have to have an Assistant Principal in EACH school building. They should travel back & forth between the schools, on an as-needed basis. Another and even more practical cost-cutting measure was mentioned at the onset of this writing. The idea of utilizing School Teachers all year long would be a PROFOUND way of Districts getting more-bang-for-the-buck. Hypothetical situation: If a Teacher was employed by a School District for 40 years, they only actually performed 30 years of work. Another much-needed change, for School Districts in general, would be to contour sessions based on the local weather. In other words, in School Districts that ensure harsh winters, have the three-month-off sessions then. It would not only be more practical with respect to not having snow days or putting students & bus drivers at risk, but also taking away the necessity to have so much time off for the Holidays. It would be a win-win situation for all. I'm surprised this has never been implemented in the past?
