I still swear by Tesla being one of the most underrated bands EVER
Totally agree with you...
For sure.
Won't argue that, for sure.
For sure, Stephanie. Just think of Mama's Fool... nobody makes music like that any more, nor in the time when Tesla was big!
I agree!
Any band would be so happy if they’re first three albums were as good as Tesla’s first three albums.
Tesla was one of the best bands from the 80s they got thrown in with the hair bands but they were definitely not a hair band great songs never a bad song in there catalogue
I lived through this era and remember it well... and all these guys were friends and toured with all the so called "hair bands" back then.. everyone who liked motely and iron maiden and judas priest and skid row and ratt etc also liked tesla and vice versa.. facts
U are so right ,I put them in left over 70s vibe ,I still see them every time they come around ,such a great band
Tesla wrote and performed what they wanted to that's what made them great (killer singer and guitar player didn't hurt) hair bands write to get girls thats what hair bands did (poison, motley Crue 3rd album and beyond, winger, bon blow me 😂
@@jasondaniels8691 duel guitars ,both great
Late 80s and into 90s as well. I think they are still playing
I'm a Huge Tesla Fan, Seen them about 20 times... Even Tesla fans might be shocked to know that Jeff wrote this song for his DOG! Probably the most underrated rock band ever! Lead singer from Texarkana with a west coast rock band.... Just makes for great music! Check Mama's Fool, EZ Come Ez Go, Change in the Weather, Freedom Slaves, The Way it is, Times Making Changes, Into the Now, Look @ Me, Mighty Mouse, Got no Glory....
I came here to say this. Every time I've seen Tesla, he always says that this song is about a dog.
Mama's Fool was written about my brother's second divorce from his 1st wife...
Jeff moves to Lodi California as a kid and met Troy Lucketta. They were involved in the Sacramento music scene and formed City Kid which changed their name to Tesla.
Kind of like Mandy was written about Barry Manilow’s dog ( most people didn’t and don’t know that either). Lol
Tesla is one of those great but greatly underrated bands. Definitely a must for a good ol' rock playlist.
it ain't the life you choose, but the life you live. some great lyrics right there.
Tesla are very underrated.. lumped into the Hair Metal/Glam genres… I’ve seen them live 4 times and they NEVER MISS!!!! Best band to come out of the 80’s!!! 🔥🔥🥰🤘😎
Hey Lisa have you seen Frankie cover Blackberry Smokes Sunrise in Texas? Awesome tune, sure you’ll dig it.
Very very underrated
@@waynethera2712 I just checked it out, Loved it!!! I didn’t know Frank was in Texas too… Brian Wheat lives not to far from me as well, here in West Texas!! Thanx for that suggestion 🔥🤘😎
Lisa Heathcock, glad you liked it Lisa. Are you familiar with Blackberry Smoke? Very good hard country/rock sound.
Cheers from Alberta.
IMO, Tesla was the greatest band that came out of the 80's. As they were more Rock n Roll than they were metal. And they weren't a flamboyant hair band. Not to mention they are ALL great musicians.
I read in the comments that this song was written about a dog. Specifically about putting down a dog that was considered a family member and his grief over it. And it’s true. Man… I liked Tesla before but now I have huge amounts of respect for the singer because I’ve been there a few times.
Tesla is a very underrated band. They are still making great music. Check out "Modern Day Cowboy", "Edison's Medicine", or my favorite "Call it What you want"
Hang Tough.
The song "Gettin' better" has been a constant saviour to me for many years and guided me back from some very hard, dark times and still does. It is also the first song I learned how to play on the guitar in it's entirety, Frank Hannon is such an amazing song writer and guitarist.
This song came out the start of the grunge era … and became the love song that headbangers, punks , skaters, Grungers, and many more could relate to . Tesla Rocks!
I was one of those kids.
@@richardaylesworth1460 👍🏻❗️❗️❗️
@@richardgonzales4815 I ain't no kid now, but I get by. I like to remember the old days. Peace.
Also, I want to add " And we didn't wear helmets".
@@richardaylesworth1460 : I was a 15 year old Stoner that just plain loved good music . I miss those days.
These guys accidentally kicked off the whole MTV Unplugged phenomenon when they released their Five Man Acoustical Jam album in 1990. It was a great album, filled with good tunes and good vibes. I definitely recommend you check it out, it's a perfect album for hot summer night.
You’ve got that right. I never heard of them until Signs came on The radio
Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora at the 1989 MTV music Awards doing Living On A Prayer melding into Wanted Dead Or Alive was the catalyst for bands going unplugged
@@jamestate5059 Record labels seeing the success of FMAJ was the catalyst. The answer to the question is always money.
My first husband proposed to Tesla "Love Song". On our 24th anniversary, he crossed to this song in my son's arms after 8 years with brain cancer. We "bumped him to the angels " with another Tesla as loud as it would go from all the cars in the cemetery. Thank you for doing this one.
Big Tesla fan from the 80’s
Underrated band- great songwriting from them.
Me and my late wife's wedding song in '93. One of a handful of songs that will always make me tear-up. This is the chopped "radio" version. Album version is 7+ minutes, which is ridiculously long for a first dance at your wedding :). Years later, after the internet, found out he wrote this song about his dog that he had to put down....wife was still cool with it being "our" song.
Is this story true?? A dog? WTH?🤪🤪
never mind , just looked it up. Wow. I never knew that.
@@jarrasmith1 WTH/F was my initial reaction as well.
Well, I was dry eyed listening to this until I got to your comment. My dog is almost 18. It’s going to fukking break me if I have to put him down. He’s always been the one to help put me back together.
Wish I’d skipped this one, now. Or at least skipped the comments. But thanks anyway. Now I have an appropriate song for his funeral/memorial.
It’s my favorite power ballad (together with “Sacrifice Me” by Salty Dog).
You guys should react to…
Tesla - Paradise
🎸🤘
Absolutely! Lex will most likely bounce off the sofa before the last note plays and Brad will be waiting for the solo to drop, and when it does,... Lord have mercy.
Teslas best love song
one of my all time favorites
Album version
BE A MAN, LITTLE SUZI, MODERN DAY COWBOY, HEAVENS TRAIL.
All great songs to check out.
this song was actually written for a dog. Jeff Keith had to put his dog down which was so depressing to him, he wrote this beautiful song.
Anyone remember when Beavis said the singer from Tesla looked like Heidi Fliess? lol
Bless Heidi’s heart.
Jeff Keith always reminded me of Steven Tyler as a vocalist. That combination of rasp and how they both attack those high notes.
I have always been confident he developed his voice over years of growing up sing Aerosmith songs. No question he was influenced by Steven Tyler's vocals.
Me too
Good call! I can definitely hear that!
Jeff Keith has a special sound to his voice. And Frank Hannon is a great guitarist. Tesla was a excellent band and they wrote some great songs.
Tesla was such a pleasant surprise in the 80s. Wonderful live 🙌🏼
And they still are!! I got to see them in 2017! Amazing!
I've been asking for this song for months! Please Please Please more Tesla!!
Tesla's song "Song and Emotion" is also a great tune they wrote for Steve Clark the guitar player from Def Leppard who died. Really the only song i have heard that sounded like a def leppard song from back in the day. but mechanical resonance getting better, edisons' medicine, ect.....
Great great great song
Huge fan! Their first album 'Mechanical Resonance' was fire! The whole album kicks A$$! I played that album into the ground, I couldn't get enough!
And then follow it up with The Great Radio Controversy....those were the days...
“It’s not what you got ..it’s what you give… it ain’t the life you chose it’s the life you live..”
Very powerful and true
this song was written by the lead singer after his dog died. It is about his dog. NOW, if you go back snd listen to it again, it has a completely different vibe…. ❤️
Tesla are one of the underrated guitar bands of the late 80's. Anything from live show in Philly is a must see, it is mostly unplugged except for the solo in "Love Song". The whole concert was incredible.
Jeff Keith's voice is solid and perfection...He was born with that voice...Nothing is forced, Tesla is one of the greatest band in my book!
Lex she said this song was "timeless"…..this song.....she's SO right. Jeff Keith's raspy voice was like NO OTHER at the time. Tesla reminds of when I was in junior high- or "middle" school as I believe it's called today...I saw them open for Pantera in high school which was crazy to me bcz they're two different types of bands, but EVERYONE there seemed to love both & had so much fun! 🥰😍👍❤️💙💕💜
Tesla was an awesome band! They have a lot of great songs.
“Is” an awesome band. They still rockin’
Jeff Keith wrote this song about his dog that passed away and the unconditional love he got from his pet✌️
It's just a vocal skill and he has it. I've had the honor of meeting Jeff Keith (lead singer of Tesla) and he's a regular dude. I mean charisma is at 100 but he's a guy that has that skill, still to this day. Got to to see them live a few years ago still killing it.
Tesla is a super underrated band!
Amazing musicians and Jeff's voice is Awesome!
Great song, Great band!
These dudes really come from some truly humble backgrounds, and their music always reflects it . I've always respected them for it ..
This song was written about putting his dog to sleep. Great band
Tesla pretty much pioneered the "Unplugged" genre of 80's music. Please review anything from the Five Man Acoustical Jam album, you'll love it!
That is his natural raspy singing voice when you hear him talk you can tell it's natural.
I remember hearing this on SiriusXM while traveling with my family to a funeral in San Antonio. I felt my little brother's pain when he started crying. RIP to Davey Lee, our family friend
Saw them open for David Lee Roth when Van Halen separated for a while. "Little Suzi" stuck with us by them. This album (Mechanical Resonance) was liked so much it made them tour for 3 years while making the next one. Steve Vai was with David so it's probably in my top 5 concerts ↑↑↑
Heavens trail is another great song and video
God I love these guys. Ever since 5-Man Acoustical Jam came out and they were getting a little more airtime.
LOVE Tesla. Now you need to check out Heaven's Trail (No Way Out) and Hang Touch
Great band, not just a song or two on there albums worth listening to you can always listen to a tesla album and every song is good, one of the best bands of the 80's not a hair band just great rock band
I would put Mechanical Resonance WAY up on the list of great debut albums!! Modern Day Cowboy is such a badass song!
I remember getting to Germany and Italy in 87 while in the Army. Played Tesla on my system and people didnt know of em. Being from Sacramento we grew up listening to the dudes. Class of 86’.
Love Tesla. I saw them open up for Def Leppard in 87. Can listen to Tesla all day but turn the station when anything from Leppard that's Hysteria or later. Cinderella is another band from that era I can still listen to.
This song is in my top 3 songs of all time. Has been since it came out. Just great music, words, and his voice is special. If you liked this, should check out Caught in a Dream by Tesla, another fantastic song with great words and music with his awesome voice. Nice review, appreciate it!

They kick much ass. One of then best live bands I've seen. Keep showing their videos.👍👍👍
Our hometown (Sacramento) heros. Great band, great song and nice, humble guys.
This is one of (if not) my favorite song from them. The lyrics are so well put together and meaning full and true. They have a lot of great songs.
Fun Fact: He wrote this song about his dog.
Tesla tunes to check out:
Getting Better
Changes
Paradise
The Way It Is
Little Suzi
Anything off Mechanical Resonance. Great album!
Tesla was one of the bands from the late 80s on that REALLY had something to say. All the other bands were doing stuff about modern events that didn't really mean anything. It did in the moment, but not now. Teslas library has lived all this time and is still for the most part relevant. Not many bands can say that. I've seen them 4 times Live, they're even better live.
My favorite band! Seen em several times and even did a meet and greet once.... Jeff was actually born in Texarkana where I live. They never got the credit they deserved and got thrown into the genre of glam rock but they most certainly not.. Tons of great songs and still rocking today....
I've heard that Jeff honed his singing skills while working in some type of big construction rig. He'd practice locked inside the vehicle, with just him and his music. I guess the shower singing was annoying his roommates. It definitely worked for him though. ✌️
Seen Tesla in concert many times the lead singer ( Jeff Keith) has an enduring corkiness when it come to his movements and lots of energy.
Great band I have seen them 5 times in concert through the years….actually got to meet them backstage after a 1995 concert for the Bust a Nut album at the Strand in Providence RI…my friend was working at 94 HJY and got us backstage…I was 25 then they were a bit past their prime but it was still a great memory…time flies
one of my favorite bands from that era. got to see them in Stuttgart, Germany for the Psychotic Supper tour, opening for the Scorpions in Nov '91.
You should check out the live version of “Love Song” from Tesla. Great tune….one of their best
I went to see them 5 times. Best concert ever. This song Jeff wrote about his dog that had passed away
Jeff Kieth is the best at his craft. I grew up in Sac town when Tesla was peaking during the 80's. I was at all the cal expo shows including the Love Song video tape for MTV Tesla still puts on a great show today and they are currently on tour.
Tesla was arguably the most underrated band from the 80's and were influenced by MTV's unplugged series which put bands on stage to do acoustic versions of their hits. Tesla was really the 3rd rock band to play on the show in September of 1990 after Great White and Aerosmith had preceeded them, and it inspired Tesla to record an album called The Five Man Acoustical Jam where they mixed their original songs with acoustic covers of bands like The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, and Creedence Clearwater Revival. My favorite Tesla songs, aside form this, are The Love Song, The Way it Is, Games People Play, Paradise, Signs, & Edison's Medicine, just off the top of my head.
“Song and Emotion” is a must listen.
One of my favorite bands!!! Next check out Tesla 'Comin at you live'.
80s rock best music of all time. Uplifting unlike the shit of today
Tesla is a all around amazing group , they are awesome live and well Jeff Keiths vocals are point on !! check out Heavens trail
Tesla greatest 80 s band period!!! Got lumped into hair metal ,they were not that ,fall down there rabbit hole ,there first 4 albums have no fillers !
I would have to give you that . Tesla is one of the greatest bands. And that's coming from a 1980s punk skater who is never really into that style of music except for Tesla
They are from my home town. Jeff gets up and sings with local bands at brewery’s. Very down to earth band. Loomis ca representing!
From Stockton here
Mechanical Resonance is my all time favorite album, watched them open for def leopard. Awesome band.
I grew up in the San Juaquin Valley. These guys were from Sacramento a couple hours north of my hometown. They kicked ass. Just good Rick and roll music. Song after song, every album. Good shit.
Acoustic classical guitar playing with a killer lead adds to classic rock.
This almost sounds like a cross between Mother Love Bone's "Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns" and Blind Melon's "Soul One" to me (maybe some of their other songs too). You might like those songs too, Lex, you should try them out!
"Frank Hammond" Never got the appreciation he deserves!
Best 80's band by a million miles.
When I first saw these guys I thought they were overlooked in some way because they weren't glam rockers they were just peace loving stoner hippie hard rock band. They have many good songs ♥️
He started singing and Lex sat up and stared smiling
This song is supposedly written about Jeffs dog that passed.
So it truly makes me cry on very first few notes cuz it makes me think of my very best friend.
I've listened to this song many times over the years and NEVER noticed the country twang than Lex mentioned. She is spot on. This is why I love this channel
I didn't even think about MJ before Lex nailed it. Went back to MJ and she's right. This why I love watching y'all 🤘
Amazing underrated Band 👏 🙌
His voice is naturally like that.
Some common Bluesy Black Crows vibes shared here. Great song.
Tesla had a lot of great songs! Enjoyed your reactions! Keep checking out their catalog? You won't be disappointed!
A very talented band! They have a bunch of really good songs👍
One of my personal top 5 Rock bands of all time. Amazing band and still rocking to this day like a boss !!
Song and Emotion ( tribute to the late Steve Clark of Def Leppard) or Edison’s medicine, hang tough, heavens trail the list goes on for a while. Great band, Thank you for this one!!
I love Tesla, but this version cuts out so much of the song, including an awesome guitar solo
Yeah, they should definitely check out the full version.
One of my all time favorite band's! I love playing this on the jukebox at the pub👍✌❤🤘
Very underrated this Tesla guy, without him i doubt we would had Rock music😁
One of the best vocalist among many.
If you think Tesla's vocals are interesting, listen to Cinderella's Tom Kiefer on Don't Know What You Got til Its Gone
They definitely need to hear some Cinderella!
Love Song is a great video because it shows what most concerts felt like in the 80’s..
Tesla perpetually underrated and awesome!
What You Give is a live ballad, this song is amazing and one of the best bands from the 80s/90s, so sooooo underrated. Jeff Keith has a memorable voice, which makes me love them!
I went to a Def Leppard, Styx, and Tesla concert about 10 years ago in Indianapolis and all in all it was a great show. I do have to say though that Tesla and Styx were exceptional both bands put on performances that sounded almost cd quality. Every song they both played was loud crisp and clear. When Def Leppard was playing you could tell there was alot work going on to during there performance to clean up Joe Elliot's vocals.
When Styx was doing their set they went through their list of songs and everyone was waiting for Renegade but they played some songs and then at the end of a song the lights went of and they said thank you goodnight and people lost their minds some were booing some were screaming Renegade I truly thought a riot was going to break out then the lights came back on and I heard some laughing and then "we were just fucking with you Indianapolis" and slow beat of Renegade started it was awesome!
I saw Styx for the 1st time in 2018. Fantastic show! Tommy Shaw especially was impressive!
Tesla rocks seen them 4-5 times and they've never disappointed.
I give y'all props for even finding this hidden banger 💯
The first platinum selling band from my hometown. Others being Cake, Papa Roach and Deftones.
This is definitely a Power Ballad. Ballads are mellow. Power Ballads are mellow with some kicked up tempo for seasoning.
