I've worn these boots for 3 years on construction sites and really work in them. Had them resoled 3 times. No issue with the counter cover. Very comfortable and durable after initial break in of the leather which took about 2 weeks. These soles are soft and do wear but are great to stand on all day.
What kind of work do you do? My thorogoods start smelling bad after 7 months or so. I take care of the outside. The inside well I’ve never seen any type of care. Changing the insoles? I wear carhartt socks. Just bought these today. My second pair.
@@markgonzalez8828my Danner bull run moc toes are the worst smelling boot I’ve ever owned. A lot of that comes down to keeping your feet healthy as well as letting your boots air out but still I’d say that if odor is an issue these boots are not for you
Not sure if you’re looking for suggestions, but with winter just around the corner, cutting open winter boots and seeing the difference between Sorel, Merrell, Baffin etc., would be interesting!
I’ve been wearing these boots with a steel toe. I normally have issues with boot because I have a wide foot and most toe boxes just never fit right. These are the best work boot I’ve ever worn. I wear them 8-10 hours a day 5-7 days a week.
Can confirm!!! I wear mine HD maintenance concrete and monkey climbing on, around & under machinery all day. Lots of walking miles through facilities moving tools etc. Word to the wise; if you foot is always slopping over the welt you should buy wider boots. I noticed my big toe outside tips had lost sensation and after nearly 10 years of not wearing the wrong size boots it’s aaaalmost better. 😅
I own Danner Bull Run for about 6 months, I do light work at my job and they are the best boots I ever owned, super comfortable feels like a sneaker but with the stability of a boot, love them.
@@itslani637 Absolutely no pain, I used to where sneakers to work and my feet and lower back would hurt like crazy every night, the first day I got my Danner pain was all gone, they are super comfortable and the stability from the sole and the shank is a must for my back.
Yup, that pretty much nails it. These are just nice lightweight comfortable boots for light to medium work. Nothing fancy or hardcore, just a nice thing to have on your feet.
@@itslani637 I normally wear 12, I went with 12 wide, they are a bit big but honestly I like it that way, unless you can try them before you buy or you buy many size and return them I would just go with your regular size and go wide if you don't like your feet being squeezed like me.
Weston, I don’t know if you saw this but whites released a Moc toe boot recently named “Perry”. They are about the same price as the red wings and would love to see a comparison of the two. That being said, love your channel and been here since the first doc Martin video. Here’s to 300k 👏
Do this. They look pretty darn solid, the only thing I think they said is they aren't totally rebuildable like their other lines but for the price its a dang good boot for the money.
I've had these exact boots for over 4 years as an auto mechanic and they have been very comfortable. The fabric counter liner definitely wore pretty early on and the counter did slowly break apart eventually. The moc toe stitching also came apart after a couple years. Great boot that served me extremely well but I love trying new things, so I have a pair of Thorogoods coming in the mail tomorrow!
@@Atvmx21 Really really comfortable, and no complaints on the external durability so far. Only very minor drawbacks at this point are the cloth toebox liner definitely has a few holes and there seems to be a slight bump developed in one tiny spot on the right boot's sole. Need a couple more years to give an accurate comparison to the Danners, but so far I'm really liking the Thorogoods!
@@jake.vigesaadude your dedication to responding to this thread has been amazing, we appreciate it. I’m a year into being a dealership auto tech, any advice?
I've had a pair of bull runs a year now. They are so cumfortable I don't want to take them off. I do light construction, best boots I've ever owned! Love your channel!
I would spend my money on the Red Wings for durability but I’ll pull the “girlie card” and say that I love the color of the leather on the Danners. Great video as always - Barbara
I have a pair of Danners 20 years old. I have pairs a few months old. I have had them completely replaced by the company multiple times. Every year they do a 50% off sale.
Wow thats actually amazing! I looked at your comment and was like "Nah that cant be right, didnt feel like a second past 10 min. -Scrolls up The sh*t!? 18+ minutes!
Thorogood next!! (pretty please) I had a pair with an uncomfortable footbed and donated them within a month. Felt like a small ridge underneath the pinky toe. Love your work, dude. ✌🏼
I had a similar experience with the Thorogoods! The welt and/or the leather "joints area (where two pieces of leather are sawn together)" was digging into my foot really badly on one of the boots. Then on the other boot, the cork must have been mis-shaped in the foot-bed....it made my foot pronate inwards and gave me a painful knee. I could not use them at all! Very disappointed.
I have really liked my Thorogood moc toes. They have speed laces unlike the Red WIngs, are much cheaper. have a shank, are unlined unlike some other moc toes, good quality leather, and have a removable insole which for work boots I view as a positive (especially with my flat feet). Redwing and others make fantastic boots, but for the price I think the Thorogood's make better beaters
I’ve had them and I think they are a little B/S. I prefer the Thorogood’s for a work boot they were more comfortable and used better leather over the Danner in my opinion. Out of them all I still think Redwings Heritage Mocs are made the best with higher quality materials, but not the best for a work boot. Thx for all the work you do in these reviews 👍🏼
I've had these boots for about 6 months now, and they are the most comfy out-of-the-box boots I've owned. They really do feel like sneakers. Not sure why they receive a lot of hate.
@@NoNameNo.5 I went through 2 pairs of Thorogoods moc toes, narrow toe box, wide heel box, floppy leather, floppy feels about it after 4hrs into a day. Im sporting non moc toe bull runs right now and Danners are #1 following RW 10875, Carolina and Thorogoods
@@milkeywhey2998 I been through two thorogoods. And they start smelling weird. I clean them with the right oils and what not and the leather has this bad smell. Danner and even Irish setters don’t do this. Has anyone else gone through this?
@@markgonzalez8828I have thorogood moc toe wedge 8” heritage and I have stinking ass feet and they’ve been the only boot to do well and not actually smell bad. Idk how though lol my feet legit sweat in flip flops
After watching this review, I went and tried on a few pairs of the Bull Run boots, and I have to say, they are super comfortable, I think I will be getting a pair when it's time to get a new pair of work boots...
They look like decent boots, and stitch downs can be resoled a few times before the leather wears out. Not BS! Really looking forward to the Thursday’s!!!
Also, working in a thrift store I can say that wearing out the liner at the heel inside the shoe is one of the most common things to kill an otherwise nice shoe/boot. Very common when it's fabric, but I've even seen it in nice leathers.
Agreed, I have been through piles and piles looking for vintage secondhand shoes and in my experience the most common fails are, in order : liner, counter, stitches (as in deformation not as in breakage), and welt (as in : some have ridiculously narrow welt edges and end up being eaten into by abrasion, dust and stitch stress)
I ordered about six pairs of moc toe boots ranging from cheap Chinese models to Danner and Thorogood. Danner, even before wearing them in, was by far the most comfortable.
Great summer boots for truck drivers!!! I can personally attest to it. Definitely a light work boot. They are tough though. I am on docks a lot and up & down inside the trailer, kicking stuff and banging into steel, concrete & wood a lot. I have had the same pair for 3 years. I just clean them periodically with saddle soap and condition with Bick 4. They are very comfortable!!
Bull Runs are the most "deconstructed" Danners, meant to feel like leather socks. The original run, with the Vibram lug sole, before they switched to the moc-toe and the wedge, were stupidly comfortable to hike in because they *breathed* I own a pair of Christie-soled moc-toe Bull Runs and comparing them to the Loggers or even the Mountain Lights is silly. The Loggers are built in straps and layers to provide stability for a person walking on a slope, doing dangerous work. The Bull Run would never do that job.
They’re pretty much as simple as a boot gets and I think that’s their strength. They don’t feel like big heavy clomping around boots, they’re light and comfortable and the soles are almost reminiscent of that gummy Doc Marten feel but sturdier because of the shank and the wide base. They’re not hardcore heavy duty boots, they’re just a nice thing to have on your feet that can support your ankles and get some work done.
Am looking for some boots and looking into the bull run and logger.. I won't be working the boot hard am a mechanic and work indoors.. what boot is more comfortable?
@@Sube-Tubethat can happen in any boot personally I wouldn’t wear these for hiking do to the soles of these boots ! I would have gone with the iron ranger,
I’m a professional land surveyor and I have been wearing the Danner Bull Run Moc Toe for many years. Here is my review. They’re very comfortable with short break in time of 1-2 weeks. I prefer the tobacco color as it is stiffer (less oil) and I have found it to be more durable. I get them re-soled at a local cobbler for $95, 3 times before I buy a new pair. So they last me 3 years +/-. My first pair was the brown and after 2 years the leather separated/tore at the stitching near the lace holes. I have not had that problem with the tobacco. I agree with you on your review, my 2 complaints are; the brown is over oiled IMO and that inner fabric material at the the heel 18:19 breaks down right around the 2.5 year mark, that should be leather. I also use the Danner RAT for surveying on steep slopes. These are the US Marine issue boots. Because I use them rarely they will last a very long time. I average 10k steps a work day in them.
I've had these boots for about three years now. I opted for them because of the lower cost of entry over the red wing mocs. Overall they're super comfortable, the break in period was easy and pretty pain-free. They have a sneaker like comfort with the boot like stability which I really enjoy. The heel cup on mine have worn through after 3 years of mostly casual wear, so now my heel rubs against the counter. It hasn't caused any discomfort or anything yet, but I know the end is near for them unfortunately I think. Definitely not bs but having owned the red wing mocs now, the quality difference is very obvious!
I like your comment, it's informative and brings up the quality to cost aspect very well. Some ppl might not want to spend 300$+(?) On a boot and knowing that the bulls are good for their cost is nice. (Obviously 100$+ more expensive should give you a better boot) (redwing)
I wear my bull runs 3 out of 7 days a week... been over a year... haven't had any issues with the heel counter... I honestly prefer my Danners over my red wing mocs, for multiple reasons... Red wing mocs have a very stiff feel, while danners insole is super nice and easy.. the outsole on my danners is softer than my red wings, but ironically hasn't "shaved" down have as much... Love the fact they are $100 and have the cool American flag... Love both brands, but I prefer the Danner moc.
I sold boots at an outdoor store in SF during the 90's. I have a pair of Danner Ft Lewis boots that I've replaced the sole 3 times. They're stitch down construction and still going strong. I have a pair of Italian made Merrell wilderness backpacking boots that I hiked the entire Pacific Crest Trail in and they're stitch down as well. We sold a few Danner hiking models like the Mountain light and Ft Lewis for military types and the Canadian for hunters. Danner always had very informative clinics for store employees back then. They really stressed their leather and stitch down construction. The also had the best "pro-deal" for store employees, 40% below wholesale. I really liked all the technical construction information about outdoor gear and since our store carried a wide selection of boots it was easy to find the right boot for the customers feet and needs. I like all the detail you go into about construction and find your channel very informative.
I've been wearing the Bull Runs for over a year. I've worn all sorts of work boots for the last 60 years including issue military boots during my time in the Army. I also currently have a pair of Iron Rangers and Jim Green Rangers, but the boot I wear 5 days out of 7 are the Bull Runs. Since I've only had them a year I can't speak to their longevity, but the comfort is beyond compare to any other work boot I have owned.
Danner better than red wings hands down. I’ve done heavy work in the same pair for 3 years now. Outside all winter snow slush puddles no leaks , the thinner leather holds up and once broken in feels like a wearing a slipper to work. Hours in sub zero temps and feet are still toasty, Don’t be fooled by red wings bulky leather construction less is more with these boots.
I dropped redwing and I've been wearing the Carolinas boots made in the u.s.a. they also make Double H cowboy boots and those are the only cowboy boots I wear.
I have them and loved them for bartending. I however moved away from them now that I do commercial plumbing on jobsites. The main issue i had was slippage from the sole on the finished concrete floor I often work on(when wet mostly). I still love them though and never realized why I liked the look so much more than Redwing until you pointed out the topdown/goodyear difference so thanks for that.
you're right about the fabric in the heel area, it doesn't last as long, I've used mines for about a year (occasionally) and the fabric rub off, but compared with red wing's iron ranger and chippewa's cibola and aldrich they're way more comfortable out of the box, almost sneaker like comfortable
I have a pair of bull runs that I wear every day for a year doing landscaping and handy work at my job, they've held up really well except for the tongue. The laces started chewing through the tongue pretty quick so bought a false tongue from nicks boots and was the best upgrade i could've made to these boots, it added a lot of structure and has prolonged the life of these by a lot
I’ve owned many pairs of Danner Quarry boots and I’ve always loved them. I’ve put them through the paces at my work and they’ve always held up well. I’ve been wanting to try a pair of these moc toe boots for awhile and I think I’m going to stick with danner on these too. Thanks for the video
I bought these as my first pair of Danners 2 years ago. Wore them out and bought the exact same pair again, great boot. I’m a builder and I got a solid 8 months out of them with zero maintenance (not even a cleaning) working win rebar, concrete, steel work, etc. The first thing to fail was the toe box stitching where my foot bends. The sole started wearing smooth under the ball of my feet after 6 months or so, but they still gripped about the same. For never putting any maintenance into them, 8 months impressed me, that’s about the same amount of time I get out of a pair of redwings. I’ve recently bought Danner’s Quarry boots with the same christy sole and they’re even better so far. Danner has a repeat customer in me.
I own and have worn the red wing, danner and thorogood boots you are cutting open. Worn in light duty construction to roofing and office use. Here are my thoughts. The Red wing 875 - definitely the most durable and hardest to break in. Had them resoled (4) times over five years and once broken in are wonderful. However mine need to be put to pasture as the repairs just aren’t worth it now. Last thing to note - wish I got them in a wide size, my pinky toe was off the sole once broken in. The danner bull run - super easy to break in and great width in the boot, actually got them in wide and enjoy the extra room. They aren’t gusseted as high as the 875’s and can get some dirt in them. I also do work on ocean front homes and sand loves to find it’s way in the boot. After the initial break in you hit the fiberboard and are missing the contoured footbed of the 875’s, feels really flat, for lack of a better term. I would not recommend for heavy construction. Lastly, the heel construction on these is disappointing and the boot ends up sagging in the back with little to no support. It’s comfortable but not great for a roof, really sloppy in there. Lastly, the thorogoods - was easy to break in, about same as danner. However there is a plastic toe cap on these that starts right where my pinky toe stops and anytime I’d get into a catchers position would pinch my pinky toes. Actually stopped wearing them because of this. The heel on them is really loose feeling compared to the toe box - which I wish was larger. Definitely made for more narrow feet. I’d say the sole longevity is about the same as danner’s. I have the brown upper with black wedge sole, looks great, but uncomfortable. The boots also end up with the ‘flat’ feeling once you’re through the removable insole. I’ve conditioned all of them with mink oil and it really helps break in and leather longevity. I also don’t mind darkening the leather. Final thoughts - I’d love to see a boot with red wing quality, longevity, heel and counter construction. With the toe box room of the danner boots. I don’t think I’d add anything from the thorogoods. Would love to see a review on the White’s boots ‘Perry’ mov toe. They kinda look like they might fit my description above. Love the channel and am thankful for all of the information. Here’s to 300k! Sorry for the novel.
I have a pair of whites, and I love em! I also own a pair of red wings, but didn’t get them in wide, so I don’t wear them often. The whites have great toe room, and quality built. Compared to the break in of red wings, whites doesn’t have any time, which I appreciate, nowadays.
I’ve been wearing these Danner at work for over a year now and had them resoled once with vibram soles. After watching this really informative video I realized I no longer have the shank.
I have a pair of steel toe Bull Runs that I use for work. Most of this work consists of factory tours and light work within manufacturing settings. For this type of light work, they are a phenomenal boot for the price. They are very comfortable and I find myself not needing to rip them off my feet the second I get home. Like most boots in this segment, they're not great for winter. And as you mentioned in the video, for a more heavy duty workload, I would likely suggest a different boot.
I absolutely love Danner. I have a pair of Tachyon combat boots and those are the comfiest boots I've ever worn in my 3 years of being in the military. I'd love to see you do a breakdown of the Tachyons.
I was really close to buying a pair of these. I was visiting the Danner store here in Bend Or t look at them. The store also carried the Whites Perry boots which are a little bit more costly. I had an advert for White's pop up and clicked. It was Whites fall sale and I got my Perry boots for $260! Thanks again for all of the info that helped me get my first boots! I'm loving my Perrys!
I've been wearing a pair of regular toe Bullruns for about 18 months. I really like them because they broke in really easy and are exceptionally comfortable. I'm hard on shoes/boots and they're holding up ok. The soles have worn a little faster than I expected, and now I know to keep an eye on the heel area. I also have a pair of Thorogoods and like them quite a bit better from a durability standpoint - but they were harder to break in and are not as comfortable. I'll be very interested to see how they compare.
I bought a pair of Nicks after you cut them open and I'm wearing them right now. I can't even consider anything less than Nicks anymore. Thank you for cutting them open and reenforcing the great investment I made 😊
@@RoseAnvil I got the Roberts in brown chromexcel. I've been wearing them all day around the house and haven't had any issues with comfort and they are breaking in nicely. I'm already thinking about my next pair to ride my motorcycle.
Weston, as feedback, I would replace the -BEEP- sound with either just cutting audio to censor it, or avoid the words altogether. Your videos are amazing and have a chill vibe, but the beep is really jarring when everything else is so calm and relaxed.
I love my Danner steel toe bull runs! Comfortable af! I wouldn't kick a shovel with them because they're a little soft, but they're great as an indoor work boot.. like in a warehouse or shop or whatever.
I own a pair of Bull Runs, That foam rubber sole is amazing for walking or standing on concrete. Definitely intended to be a lighter boot compared to thier heavier work boots. If I'm working hard I wear a pair of Danner super rain forest, they are awesome. I own one pair of Danners that are no B.S. 20 years old (explorer hiking) that have been refreshed and resoled 3 times by Danner (its nice to live close).
Been working oilfield for 12 years. Ariat pull up boots (steel toe) have been my go to. Diabetes kicked in and of course my feet became sensitive. Bought my Danners back in March of this year. These have been the most comfortable work boots I have ever worn! I can’t see me buying another pair of work boots if they are not Danners!
I think what you said hit the nail on the head , I’ve worn two pairs black and brown and both have split in the hand stitched moc toe area . I’m a commercial electrician was putting in a lot of hours on sofi stadium and they are super comfortable after break in . But they weren’t built for construction, maybe warehouse work
Great review, I had a pair of danners I bought for when I was deployed in 2010 to iraq. They got me thru that and a couple more years, also weaver is really good quality, I had a weaver cougar saddle for tree climbing, thing was bullet proof
Enjoy your channel very much. I have gotten almost 3 years out of my Bull Runs. The sole is still holding up. The most easy break in I ever had. I am a truck driver,so they get some abuse in wearing them. I am going to order the Perry's Moc from Whites based on your video. I aslo have a pair That are my weekend boots. I don't think I'll ever ware those ones out.
I’ve had a pair of Danner Acadia’s for 15yrs. Wore them 12hrs a day 5 days a week. I about 8yrs in I sent them back to Danner to be re-soled / conditioned and still have them. Durable and waterproof. I’m not sure if they have changed their manufacturing practices since then but would love to see that model dissected 👍
Of the moc toe boots i went with these danners because i liked the leather and i felt that the stitch down design would make it easier to resole later on. However, i didn’t consider the fabric counter. After the insole, that will be the next part to fail and might be fatal for the shoe. Also they were comfortable, i do have wide feet. I actually didn’t get these for work so hopefully they will last a while. They are a replacement for an old pair of doc martins.
I own over 50 pairs of shoes and boots (most of the boots are Danner). These Bull Run Moc Toes are my go to most of the time out of all my shoes/boots. I wear them more than anything else it seems. I don't even really think about it much but i just find myself always grabbing them and putting them on more than anything else. I have had them for about 7 years now and still look great.
I’m a machinist in a rush most of the time, and I run a lot. These boots are ironically great for running and working in your back yard because of the steel shank. These boots are like buying the right tools for the job. Over kill tools sometimes just don’t work as great as the correct tool. Love my Danner moc toe boots.
I have these in the tobacco color. Very comfortable right out of the box. Wearing fairly well in uppers, but the sole is not substantial enough for me. They’ve worn considerably in just 6 months. You’re description of a light to medium duty work boot is spot on. Will be purchasing a different boot next time. Thanks for your channel 👍🏻
I’ve had my Danner Bull Run Moc Toe’s for almost 3 years and I wear them 5 days a week at work and normally at least once on the weekends. They’ve broken in like an old ball glove and have been hands down the best pair of work boots I’ve ever invested in. The first week or so break in period is rough, but after that they soften up like a soft and bright greeting from the sun on a frost covered November morning. Some conditioning and polishing and they shine up just like new! New fan, but absolutely love your videos dude!! Keep up the good work!! 👊🏻👊🏻
I have a pair of these Bullruns. The 1st pair I got, I sent back because one was wrinkled a lot worse than the other. The second pair, Danner sent to me along with gifts, (a beanie hat and leather oil for the boots) because they agreed the wrinkles were worse on one boot. I was happy! However.... the 2nd pair of boots now are so wrinkly that I believe they are the leather of a cows nutsack. Otherwise they are extremely comfortable boots and I’d still buy another pair!
Really appreciate your reviews and insight on these products. Thank you for the time, work, and dedication on these projects. Please consider a future review on the Danner quarry boots and the Russel Moccasin boots.
I have commented on previous videos asking you to consider the grant stone Ottawa’s, and until recently I forgot they’re split toe and not technically moc toe, but I would still encourage you to add any pair of grant stone boots in to the mix. They’re made in China by a Michigan based company and has caused a stir by that merit alone the past few years. Quality is impeccable though! Love the vids! Keep them coming!
I don't think Danner puts out BS, some ugly styles for sure, but they're pretty consistent at delivering quality for the price point that you choose. For the current offering under "Work" boots, 23 different styles, the average shoe for men retails at ~$231 with the Bull Runs averaging ~$190, with the Flashpoint coming in $US400 for the high end and the Romeo rounding out the lower end at $100. These are all the prices posted on their website as of 10/16/20 so I'm using them as guidance vs Amazon or whatever. I'm no expert but I've owned four pairs of Danners already and I can tell you that the quality of the construction, materials and fit varies significantly between the prices paid. My Caprine and Mountain Low's were nowhere near as good as my Mountain Light or RAT's but there's a $200 difference, and the same goes for the Bull Run line. Obviously you should expect good quality for a name-brand work boot priced at $190, but I’m guessing that their pricing matrix puts a lot more emphasis on generating profits from styles that are majority sourced and assembled in the US than those in Vietnam and that one might be paying a brand premium of ~$30 or more to own a pair of Bull Runs. So if as a buyer you're looking to see if Danner sells BS, you should probably ask yourself first if you're in the market for paying a premium on a pair of work boots because their reputation is that good or if you're just looking for a pair of nice lifestyle shoes that fit your budget, because I think Danner has both of those customers figured out already.
i own the Danners and the Thorogoods. The break-in for the Bull Runs are long and hard on the ankles. Love my Thorogoods. Currently just hit 1 year of hard work on my Danners and they are beat and need a resole already. I wore my Thorogoods for 2 years before a resole and there was a near no break-in. For work, they are super comfy just like a sneaker. Upper is beat after 2 years but still useable. Can't say enough about Thorogoods.
I’d go with redwing. Just like the overall more refined and classic look. These are a pretty decent alternative considering the price. It’s really crazy it has a shank.
I own these Bullruns and absolutely love them. I’ve had them re soled twice already and the shop said they’re in great shape for continued repair. Invest in a good pair of moc toes from a reputable manufacturer and you’ll have solid work boots for years. I re sole them when I’m on vacation.
@@RoseAnvil Would love to see a series on Motorcycle boots and shoes. The TCX casual cruiser shoes I wear are super comfortable. look good on or off the bike, but I still wonder just how good the construction is and IF they are as good as TCX says they are for protection....
I have these in Black/Steel toes. Break in period was a lil rough but I wear them in the shop for 8hrs plus. I don’t really have any complaints, they do the job.
I've been wearing these in the fall and cooler months for the last 2 years. They definitely have a rough break in period, but they are comfortable after that. I also upgraded the foot beds to the fatigue fighter. Bit pricey but they do work. And I used the OEM foot beds in my Woolrich slippers which was an added bonus! They also took a beating as a dog toy for one evening and survived! Granted, it was a small dog and I did have replace the laces. Now that I see the shank I'm worried about having the soles redone if they wear down a lot. And now I wonder if was a reason I got stopped at TSA checkpoints! :D
BS. I own the Redwing 875's so I am bias. That said the 875's are my everyday work boots and are going strong after 4 years of climbing roofs. Yes the soles wear out fast but provide great traction on roofs and are easy to have resoled.
I have severe foot problems ranging from heal spurs, arthritis and tendinitis. I've been a chef for 40 years standing on quarry tile floors, 10 hours a day, 6 days a week. The Danner Bull Run boot has been a life saver. I tried all the other top name wedges and the Bull Run is by far, by my standards, the most comfortable one out if them all. Awesome foot feel and quick to break in right out of the box.
I have never had a pair but this deconstruction did not impress me at all. I would not pay nearly $200 for basically nothing. Not even a Goodyear welt.
I've got a pair of danner work boots that are amazing. Insanely comfortable out of the box and we're durable for the 4 months I was working before the pandemic closed down my job...
I got mine for $150 and for the types of things I do in my boots they’re more than enough. I mean, in that price range it’s the Thorogoods and Thursdays it’s competing with and I think it looks better than either of them.
@nick sweeney I love mine. I have been wearing the style from them since 1996. Working for the forest service to construction I feel Danners has done me so much justice and they will replace it all. What is disappointing about them?
I started working construction years ago. I bought Whites Boots ie custom made, heavy and long lasting. I needed a lighter boot and went to Danners. I have owned 4 pairs made in Portland and 2 foreign made pairs. Great awesome boots. I bought a new pair of Bull Run 6” because I walk a lot on concrete slabs. They feel like sneakers. I test fit Thorogood boots before selecting the Danner Bull Run. I have narrow feet and the Danners kept my ankle anchored and the well made Thorogoods did not.
This boot helped me foot, leg, and back pain. It also took fatigue away. I bought this in a lux style. After 3 wears, they broke in nicely. I love them.
It feels like your paying more for the name being plastered on the back. They kinda look like clown shoes when you’re comparing them with the red wings.
These videos came at a perfect time. I’ve been trying to decide if I should get these or have the soles replaced on my thorogoods for the last couple months. I decided to give the bull runs a shot. I bought them today right before work and wore them straight out of the box. They’re much better for the work I’m doing since they are lighter and less bulky than my thorogoods. The stitchdown construction was a bit of a pro and con. Con because of the potential lack of longevity but a pro for the flatter foot bed.
I got a pair on now, work on concrete for 10+ hours a day, wear em weekends too, super comfortable, and can handle anything I put them through, worth the money 💯
I’ve had these Danner bull run shoes for a couple years now . Got them for about have the cost of red wings . Very comfortable right out of the box. I’m sure there not the quality of the red wing. I’m retired now so I’m not on feet all day long . For the price and comfort, I would buy again .
I love theses boots! I’ve owned a pair for a couple years and use them as a work and casual boot. Plus Danner offers 30% off site wide a couple times a year which makes these a great value.
I just found this channel and I've watched 2 videos. The initial one was the take-apart of the Red Wing 870 which has a similar look to the Danner Bull Run. Even though they look and share being 6" work shoes (this is a shoe for old shoe dogs), they are vastly different. In a nutshell the RW is quite ridgid w/ a 360-degree leather Goodyear welt and the Danner is semi-flexible w/ a full stitchdown construction. I sell both of these as I'm a third-generation shoe repairer and a second-generation shoe retailer. The price difference of each reflects both materials and workmanship requirements in these two shoes. The only thing I can think to add is though the wedge soles look similar the RW wedge is the most dense crepe rubber wedge sole I've encountered. The Vibram Christy is "airier" and less dense. The RW has a harder cured wear side too. As for the Danner wedge it is like the Weinbrenner Thorogood sole in that it is poly-urethane (PU). PU soles have very very small pockets of air with more in the middle and fewer as the sole material approaches it's outtermost edges (all edges). The bottom is the most dense and even though it's not too thick it has fantastic initial wear resistance. Thorogood states they have tested both, Vibram Christy an Thorogood PU, wedge soles and find their PU gives generally 30% longer wear. I would assume the Danner PU would be similar.
I’ve owned these same boots for about 3 months now and they are definitely a 8/10. The cloth liner digs into your foot and the tongue has a mind of its own. But other than that, it’s a fine light duty work boot. I work on concrete all day so the soft/wide platform really helps. As far as breaking in, they take about a 60 ish hours of walking. (P.S. If you like a tighter toe box, try a size down)
I’ve been wearing Danners for almost 2 decades. Issued via military, their work series and almost everything in between. I don’t have experience with these but Danner can get my money any day and they are military friendly.
I'm about 8 months in. I have a habit of blowing out the toes from kneeling. These bull runs have held up so much better. The soles are super soft, im wearing them down faster than anything I've ever worn. But they're as comfortable as my sneakers. The uppers are still in fantastic shape. I will definitely send these out for a resole when the tread is all gone. I'd buy them again new too
I usually read the comments in your videos and I love watching the next ones and how you take into account every single one. Congrats!! Love your channel!
I just ordered a pair of these. I like the stich down of the boot. I wish the counter in the heel you were talking about would be a better material and also cover the whole inside of the boot. I wish they were insulated also. But I'm using these as light duty boots.
Can any cobbler repair the boot?
@@markgonzalez8828 baking soda on insoles and spray powder on your foot for the sweat
@@markgonzalez8828my Danner bull run moc toes are the worst smelling boot I’ve ever owned. A lot of that comes down to keeping your feet healthy as well as letting your boots air out but still I’d say that if odor is an issue these boots are not for you
If you don’t want smelly socks, wear bombas socks. The less cotton the better

That’s great to know. I wear a 13 wide with steel toe and have been looking for my size for months. Hopefully they’ll be worth the hunt.
@@jamesdean4972 I’am almost all Irish and although I’am definitely a short Irish man I have really big feet ( 5’3” and size 10.5).
How are they with your feet after a long day? No pain, less pain? I'm pretty much on my feet throughout the day and looking into anti-fatigue boots
@@maxhubert3785 Thank you for the reply. One last thing, did you have to go down .5 your original size?
@@itslani637 I normally wear 12, I went with 12 wide, they are a bit big but honestly I like it that way, unless you can try them before you buy or you buy many size and return them I would just go with your regular size and go wide if you don't like your feet being squeezed like me.
I love when toast decides to grace us with his presence!
Weston, I don’t know if you saw this but whites released a Moc toe boot recently named “Perry”. They are about the same price as the red wings and would love to see a comparison of the two. That being said, love your channel and been here since the first doc Martin video. Here’s to 300k 👏
I too would love to see the Perrys cut open. Really thinking about them for my next boot.
Oooh, thanks for the heads up on the Perry. Those look pretty darn good.
looking at them myself as well.
Do this. They look pretty darn solid, the only thing I think they said is they aren't totally rebuildable like their other lines but for the price its a dang good boot for the money.
Perry's are about $80 more at this time.
How did the thorogoods work out for you vs Danner?
@@Atvmx21 Really really comfortable, and no complaints on the external durability so far. Only very minor drawbacks at this point are the cloth toebox liner definitely has a few holes and there seems to be a slight bump developed in one tiny spot on the right boot's sole. Need a couple more years to give an accurate comparison to the Danners, but so far I'm really liking the Thorogoods!
Did the Thoroughgoods wear well in yr 2?

I would spend my money on the Red Wings for durability but I’ll pull the “girlie card” and say that I love the color of the leather on the Danners. Great video as always - Barbara
I think the brown Bull Runs are just about as good looking as the moc toe wedge sole genre gets.

Westin, I have no clue why Moctober has me so excited, but it's great. Also, Toaster using a $500 boot as a seat is great.
Thorogood next!! (pretty please) I had a pair with an uncomfortable footbed and donated them within a month. Felt like a small ridge underneath the pinky toe. Love your work, dude. ✌🏼
I think thorogoods are next Thursday! I bet that ridge you get was the rib I was talking about in this video
It's interesting that you would say that because I actually had a pretty similar problem with my pair of thorogoods.
I had that too but it was right under the ball of my left foot. Though I’ve had good luck with thorogoods in the past.
The fact that Toaster uses half of a $500 boot as a sitting place is just, so beautiful.
He has expensive tastes
Cats always test how a new object feels under their butt.
OMg this would be so much fun. Toasters Moc Toe Toe Bed lol..........
I've had these boots for about 6 months now, and they are the most comfy out-of-the-box boots I've owned. They really do feel like sneakers. Not sure why they receive a lot of hate.
Thorogoods are real easy break in also

Exceptional filming/editing. Really drove home how this boot compares to other brands. Well done. Very enjoyable.
I go to the Factory Store in Portland and get these for like $110 from there blemishes section. It's always almost unnoticeable so it's a good deal.
I gotta check that out. I’m not too far from them.
Good to know. I wonder if they still discount them. My girlfriend gets 20% of anything Danner throught her work.
They look like decent boots, and stitch downs can be resoled a few times before the leather wears out. Not BS! Really looking forward to the Thursday’s!!!
Super comfy boot. Just picked them up recently. Great room for a wider foot without having to order a wide.
Also, working in a thrift store I can say that wearing out the liner at the heel inside the shoe is one of the most common things to kill an otherwise nice shoe/boot. Very common when it's fabric, but I've even seen it in nice leathers.
That’s some amazing insight I wonder if a thrift store would let me come help sort their shoes so I could see what fails and why
It might be a cool vidoe
Thanks! That's a good idea for sure 🙂
@@RoseAnvil Do it, that would definitely be very interesting to watch!
Hurts me... watching you cut these in half. I absolutely love Danner boots and have always appreciated how they got me through the day.
They are very comfortable!!
they don't have a moc toe but would love to see you review some Viberg boots in the future, one of Canada's only boot makers and very high quality
Why the heck aren’t more blue collar workers subscribed to you?? Your videos are such life savers!
Bull Runs are the most "deconstructed" Danners, meant to feel like leather socks. The original run, with the Vibram lug sole, before they switched to the moc-toe and the wedge, were stupidly comfortable to hike in because they *breathed*
I own a pair of Christie-soled moc-toe Bull Runs and comparing them to the Loggers or even the Mountain Lights is silly.
@Van Damage That's what I'm thinking also.
Am looking for some boots and looking into the bull run and logger.. I won't be working the boot hard am a mechanic and work indoors.. what boot is more comfortable?
I went hiking in my bullruns one time. Slipped on wet leaves on like a 40 degree incline. Still can't kneel down on the leg that took the fall
I agree with you on your review, my 2 complaints are; the brown is over oiled IMO and that inner fabric material at the the heel
18:19 breaks down right around the 2.5 year mark, that should be leather.
@@thec.tysonsynopsis7280 how do you get danners at $100?
Dude, that would be HUGE 300k giveaway!
🤞🤞🤞
YES!!! Awesome!! I’m excited for this. Always wondered about their quality.
I own them and also own some 877’s. The 877’s are much more sturdy and feel more durable, though the Bull Run’s we’re comfortable much sooner.

I have a pair of whites, and I love em! I also own a pair of red wings, but didn’t get them in wide, so I don’t wear them often. The whites have great toe room, and quality built. Compared to the break in of red wings, whites doesn’t have any time, which I appreciate, nowadays.

After killing every shoe I bought within 12 months of purchasing, I got a Danner randomly in 2015. I still wear the same pair today. Great quality.

More boots from Danner. Also interesting are Makia and Dachstein.
They are a replacement for an old pair of doc martins.
they can be resoled, friend. Cobblers are miracle workers.
The steel shank make these boots great for kick starting a Harley. Gives you great support on the downstroke.
I only came here for Toaster.

me too ..
Is it your first wedge sole? They all wear quickly like that but most are cheap to resole

Amazing
Fixed! It was a late night ok ha ha
@@RoseAnvil Hahaha, no judgements here!
Hey jeans! Caught you out here just glassin’.
Come on Mark, don’t be stingy
I’ve been subscribed. I can’t do it any harder!
I have a grant stone video coming up in November I believe
Rose Anvil looking forward to it! Thanks for replying!
Would you be willing to cut open motorcycle boots? Great video BTW.
I primarily look for motorcycle boots, and would also love this.
My point exactly. Alpinestars, Roland Sands, Dainese and ICON. So many options it would make for more great content.
Ya one day!
F'n tsa!🤣👍🏽
One of my favorite boots. Have 3 pairs mock toe and normal. Nothing has failed on them. One pair is more then five years old.
I hate my danner boots, really uncomfortable. Sorry , just venting a bit.
I want someone to look at me the way Weston looks after he sees a shank
This boot helped me foot, leg, and back pain. It also took fatigue away. I bought this in a lux style. After 3 wears, they broke in nicely. I love them.
It feels like your paying more for the name being plastered on the back. They kinda look like clown shoes when you’re comparing them with the red wings.
Clown shoes was my first thought too. They are just too wide, round and bulky.
I own these and I love them, I do not use them for work as I am retired. Love the color!
That would be amazing if you were able to give boots to the homeless!
Let them buy their own damn boots.
@@Lex-Rex if they had money to throw at boots they wouldn't be homeless
These videos came at a perfect time. I’ve been trying to decide if I should get these or have the soles replaced on my thorogoods for the last couple months. I decided to give the bull runs a shot. I bought them today right before work and wore them straight out of the box. They’re much better for the work I’m doing since they are lighter and less bulky than my thorogoods. The stitchdown construction was a bit of a pro and con. Con because of the potential lack of longevity but a pro for the flatter foot bed.
4:00 why is one boot white and the other one is brown? Are we going for that mismatch aesthetic? 😂😂😂
?? He is comparing the toe box of the red wing and the Danner
@@onixtheone the comment supposed to be a joke, but okay
Lunar terrible execution but okay
@@onixtheone bad understanding, but alright
(P.S. If you like a tighter toe box, try a size down)
Agreed on all points.
Man I'm so glad you're growing and making more great content!
I’ve been wearing Danners for almost 2 decades. Issued via military, their work series and almost everything in between. I don’t have experience with these but Danner can get my money any day and they are military friendly.
@Van Damage a lot
